That certainly wasn't the smartest move to pull off; even discounting the obvious mistake of announcing her presence to the aeromancer, it wasn't a particularly prudent move for the corporate heiress to attempt physical combat against someone whose reflexes outstrip that of normal humans by at least a few orders of magnitude. Selene would find her incoming punch deflected to the right by Chizu's hand, while the aeromancer pulled back her free hand, winds gathering in front of her open palm... The corporate heiress felt the air get knocked out of her lungs by the aeromancer's counterattack, skidding several feet across the ground before stopping lying face-up, momentarily rolling over to her side with a groan with her arms wrapped around her midsection, gasping in pain but still very much conscious. And it was at this point that the Valkyrie descended, like a raptor swooping down on its prey as the armored maiden raised her claymore above her head in a two-handed grip, attempting a midair overhead slash attack on the aeromancer with her massive blade's flat edge!

Chizu felt the air currents above her change as the Valkyrie tore through them, falling like a rock directly overhead. She reached out, moving the air currents underneath her and using them to throw herself back, out of the way of the Valkyrie's descent. The armored maiden struck the ground where she had been standing. Chizu landed a few feet away, gasping as pain shot up her side. She quickly wrapped her arm around the site again, gritting her teeth. Okay, she had definitely cracked something. She resisted the urge to squeeze her eyes shut against the pain, knowing that she didn't have much time before the Valkyrie turned around to attack her. Her best bet would be to fight through it, but Chizu's biggest advantage in this fight was her mobility, and an injured side, while not life-threatening, would certainly limit that. Fine. She would just have to make do. She unfolded her arm from around her side and took a deep, hissing breath, drawing her arms back and sending a large twisting blast of wind directly at the Valkyrie.

There was a sound resembling an explosion as the Valkyrie's sword struck the ground just after Chizu had moved out of the way, the force of the strike leaving a small crater on the ground as the armored maiden lifted her head to look at the aeromancer who'd evaded her attack. Meanwhile, Selene slowly rose to her feet, still panting with an arm wrapped around her midsection. The corporate heiress noticed that Chizu was in obvious pain - and judging from the way the aeromancer was favoring her side, it was clear at this point instead of just a suspicion that getting grazed by the Valkyrie's blast wave had left her with cracked ribs. While it wasn't a life-threatening injury, it certainly posed a significant handicap to the aeromancer's mobility - which was pretty much her greatest asset in battle. The armored maiden was quick to capitalize on Chizu's handicap, as she quickly closed the gap in a few bounding, fleet-footed strides, claymore poised to strike as the armored maiden twisted around the waist to ready a horizontal roundhouse slash... only to be caught square in the chest by a solid wind blast, spiraling like a cyclone, sending the Valkyrie into the air and flying clear across the arena. The armored maiden grunted in pain as she tried to raise herself from the ground, the center of her breastplate visibly buckled in at the point of impact by Chizu's wind blast. "Valkyrie, return to whence you came!" Selene would suddenly give the inexplicable command to dismiss her summon, sending the Valkyrie back to her native plane of existence as she faded away - armor, swords and all. "If Chizu-san had fought to win... you'd have simply wrested the dagger from me right at the starting bell," the corporate heiress commented, looking at the aeromancer with a faint smile as she rose to her feet. "But clearly, you were more into it for the challenge than to simply win. And in this regard, I see eye-to-eye with you," Selene continued. After all, it wouldn't have been much of a challenge if she'd mercilessly exploited Chizu's present handicap to her advantage. But such was the difference between fighting a war, and participating in a tournament of goodwill. "So how about I say we make this a challenge for the both of us?" Selene commented as she drew blood once more with her ritual dagger, creating a summoning circle for... the Dryad, materializing from a column of white light in the center of the circle as the surrounding vegetation grew more luxuriant in her presence. ![]() "Dryad, Chizu-san needs some healing," the corporate heiress said as she looked at the aeromancer with a nod. The floral quasi-elemental nodded her head as she clasped her hands together with her head bowed as if in prayer, a glowing gold-white spell circle appearing beneath her feet, before stretching out her arms straight, palms pointed at Chizu as a column of golden light washed over the aeromancer, bathing her in its soothing glow as the spell charged her body with positive life energy, boosting her natural recuperative ability to repair the damages to her body. And as soon as the Dryad was done with her task, the corporate heiress would proceed to dismiss the summon just as she did with the Valkyrie, the surrounding vegetation magically returning to their normal state as the Dryad returned to her native plane of existence. "All right then, so how about I say we do this the good old fashioned way, with good ol' fisticuffs?" the corporate heiress commented as she sheathed and cast aside her ritual dagger, before placing a leg forward and another backwards, with her fists raised in a boxing stance as she waited for Chizu's response.

Chizu took shallow breaths as the blast of air left her. She stood leaning slightly to one side, one arm wrapped around her side and the other hanging loosely in front of her as she watched the Valkyrie get to her feet. Chizu's eyes narrowed and she readied another blast of air to defend herself, when Selene did the inexplicable. She rose to her feet and called the Valkyrie back. Chizu's eyes widened and she straightened up slowly, turning to face the summoner. For a moment, she was afraid that Selene was going to throw the fight. It had happened in the last tournament, and while it had allowed her to move on, it was clear that Fighter X (who was almost certainly not Eiji Ishida) should have won that round. But instead Selene raised her dagger again, summoning Dryad to the field. She stared as golden light surrounded her, the pain in her side slowly beginning to fade away. Chizu unwound her arm from around her side and straightened up, looking down at her hands, and then across the field at Selene. She grinned at the summoner's offer, a smile that bared her teeth. So that was her game. The curtain of wind around Chizu fell away, the air in the immediate area snapping back into its natural currents as she raised her hands as well. "Have her heal you too, and make sure you won't regret this," said Chizu. Chizu rushed at the summoner, pulling one hand back so it looked like she was aiming to strike at Selene's face. She changed movements at the last moment, one leg shooting out in a low kick that was meant to knock the summoner over. Her movements were quick, but not inhumanly so. It looked as if Chizu had decided to avoid using any powers for this final bout. |

"I regret nothing," Selene commented earnestly as she took a step forward at the same time that Chizu made her move, rushing the corporate heiress with a fist raised, poised to aim a punch to the face; with the two girls now going at it with good old fisticuffs. No aeromancy, no magic. Nothing except the desire to give it their best! Selene responded by attempting to tilt her head to the side to allow Chizu's punch to, in boxing terms, "slip". And would therefore counter with a gut punch... except that the aeromancer wasn't throwing a punch. Even without using her aeromancy to enhance her reflexes and speed, Chizu was still fast by human standards, possibly the result of much athletic conditioning and experience in brawls. And in that split second where Selene had miscalculated her move, the corporate heiress would find her foot that was placed forward get swept out from underneath her as the aeromancer broke out from her feint and delivered a leg sweep, tripping the corporate heiress and sending her tumbling to the ground in a supine position. Gritting her teeth as her back hit the ground, Selene swiftly responded by bringing her legs up and swinging her hips around like a breakdancer, spinning around on the floor before thrusting her hands against the ground and using the momentum of the spin to launch herself off the ground in a recovery move, and spinning once more in an attempt to catch Chizu in the midsection with a spinning back kick, turning her hips around before thrusting her foot out - flat side first instead of heel first to reduce the force of the impact and therefore limiting the injury potential. |

Chizu crossed her arms in front of her face as Selene jumped back up, attempting to block the incoming kick, but instead of kicking high like she had prepared for, Selene kicked towards her midsection. The summoner's foot sailed right under Chizu's arms, slamming into her stomach. Chizu grunted as the impact knocked her back, tensing up her abdominal muscles and exhaling quickly to avoid getting winded. She slid back, moving in the opposite direction from the kick to minimize the impact slightly. The kick still hurt, but she could breathe at least, and considering the situations she had found herself fighting in before, she had had worse. She moved forward as soon as Selene pulled away, hoping to catch the summoner before she could fully recover from the kick. Chizu moved inside quickly, ignoring the throbbing pain coming from her stomach. She lifted her knee, aiming a strike at Selene's chest. |

The aeromancer must have been anticipating a high kick, as Chizu raised her arms to block a kick that she thought would be either coming towards the face or the chest, but instead Selene's kick passed right underneath the aeromancer's arms to land, flat side first - into her abdominal region, although the resistance her foot met told the corporate heiress that her opponent had tensed her abdominal muscles and expelled the breath from her lungs to avoid to painful sensation of getting winded. The impact had sent Chizu staggering backwards, although not grounded. The aeromancer swiftly recovered after that, while Selene was still in the midst of recovering from her own attack and planning her next move. The aeromancer moved in quickly - which in many cases in unarmed fights would serve to minimize the threat of attacks by being too close to an opponent for him/her to swing a punch or kick effectively. Selene forced the breath out of her lungs as Chizu brought her knee up, aimed at the corporate heiress' chest, just milliseconds before her knee landed, causing Selene to reel from the impact. The corporate heiress took her next breath in with some effort, her chest clearly hurting from the blow; but if she still had her breath in her lungs the impact would've winded her, and she would have no doubt been lying on the ground gasping in pain. Looking up at Chizu while forcing a pained-looking smile on her face, the corporate heiress quickly resumed her fighting stance, with one fist close to her chest and another hand placed slightly forward, hand open, before wagging the fingers of her open hand in a beckoning gesture - asking the aeromancer to make her next move, while the corporate heiress planned on playing defensive tactics this time around. Chizu felt her strike connect, although it met with resistance, and didn't cause as much damage as it would have to the unprepared. She withdrew, stepping back from Selene and watching the summoner for a moment. She had never seen Selene get into a hand-to-hand fight, but the heiress was actually better at it than she would have thought. She would say that they were roughly even, now that neither of them were using their powers. Good. It made for an interesting fight. She frowned as Selene beckoned for her to make the next move, studying her opponent's stance. Normally, she was wary of people going on the defensive, especially when they weren't exactly losing. It usually meant that they had some sort of strategy in mind for countering her next move. But she couldn't stand still and stare at Selene indefinitely. She would have to attack and risk it anyway. Chizu moved forward towards the summoner, moving her fists one after the other in rapid succession. Her first punch, she aimed at the side of her opponent's head. The second was more of an uppercut as Chizu stepped slightly closer to Selene. |

Selene's eyes narrowed intently as the corporate heiress tensed herself for Chizu's next move, shifting in her stance as the aeromancer closed the gap, her eyes attempting to follow her hand movements. Calculating... anticipating... and then came Chizu's first punch as the two girls came within striking distance - a cross, aimed for the side of the corporate heiress' head. A strike like such could connect with either the temple, or behind the ear; two particularly sensitive locations on an already vulnerable as it is target that is the head. It's what boxers refer to as "sweet spots", the proverbial light switches on a person's body that can easily turn a fighter's lights out when struck. The corporate heiress' responded instinctively, her muscle memory kicking in even before her brain began to process the situation as Selene raised her hand, using the edge of her palm to push aside the aeromancer's incoming punch, her knuckles rubbing past the corporate heiress' ear. While at the same time the corporate heiress would feel the tension in her abdominal muscles as she wound up slightly at the waist, her other hand cocked backwards, before pivoting around and throwing her fist in a hook punch aimed to the side of Chizu's head, at virtually the same time the aeromancer threw her uppercut... BAM! Selene saw her vision go white and the world around her sounding distorted as Chizu's fist connected with her chin, the English heiress shutting her eyes tight as she felt her knees buckle. As she opened her eyes she would find herself staring up into the sky, her vision swimming... |

Her second punch moved through the air, and Chizu felt it connect, knowing instinctively from the feel of it that it had hit its mark. But her triumph was short-lived. She saw Selene's punch coming out of the corner of her eye, but it was fast, and this close to the heiress, it was impossible to pull away in time. Well, virtually impossible anyway. If she employed her powers, she would be able to dodge the second attack. They were running down on time, but if she used her powers, she would be able to dodge the blow and finish the fight quickly, before it got down to judging. But that would be a betrayal of Selene's trust. Selene had healed her and put away the dagger, even though it would have been easier to simply continue the fight as it was. So Chizu clenched her teeth in the last split second, closing her eyes and jerking her head back slightly in an attempt to dodge.. The punch connected with the side of her head, and Chizu saw stars as she felt herself pushed to the side. She let out a grunt of pain. She had managed to make it avoid one of the spots that would knock her out, but it still hurt. She had been punched before, of course, so she staggered back, turning to look at Selene as she steadied herself. Selene was...down? Chizu hesitated for a moment, staring at the other girl. "...Selene...?" she began. The decision passed, declaring her the winner. Chizu sighed in relief as she heard the words, straightening up. She placed a hand on her head, knowing that that would hurt tomorrow, and walked over to the other girl, extending her hand down towards her. "Are you alright?" she said. "You fought well." Two more fights. She had to get through two more fights, and then she could repeat her battle with Kouta. And this time, she intended to win it. Even if that person stood between her and her rematch. In fact, she was looking forward to it. Edited by Chizu, Jan 16 2012, 11:22 PM.

"...Selene...?" The corporate heiress heard her name being called out as she lay on her back, finding herself staring straight into the face of Chizu; the aeromancer's eyes standing out clearly to the corporate heiress in spite of her vision still blurred from her concussion. "Are you alright?" "Well, I've had worse, so yes, I'll say I'm fine..." Selene replied, trying to smile through the dizziness as she tried to lift her head and shoulders off the ground, and at this point the English heiress was aware of a metallic taste in her mouth; it was the all-too-familiar taste of blood. The blow had most likely injured her lower lip in the process. "You fought well." "Thank you, Chizu-san. But the same goes double for you," the corporate heiress gave a thumbs up. "All the best in the next rounds." Selene continued as a Frostfire executive showed up at this point to help the corporate heiress to her feet, before helping her off the arena, pausing just long enough to look back and give the aeromancer a smile and the peace/victory hand sign. |
