Damon had blocked most of the projectiles with his shield, and being put to non-lethal settings probably meant that given his armor the few that struck his body didn't even so much as sting. "Again!?" Lavender almost facepalmed at Damon's lack of subtlety and how the shadow rider had thus far simply mounted one frontal assault after another with only slight variations in tactics. Although there is truth in that the advantage of a first strike must always be seized and that keeping the pressure on the enemy is a tried-and-tested formula to victory, (after all, the old adage is to "hit them first, hit them hard" and then keep hitting) but in the event a decisive victory can't be scored in just a few blows it would be prudent to show variations in one's tactics, lest the enemy get the hang of just what you are doing. Damon probably didn't realize it yet, but as far as the aeromancer was concerned, he was simply providing her with an open book to read. "Let me give you a pro-tip," Lavender said as the shadow rider rushed at her with sword raised and shield in front of him, as Damon closed the gap, Lavender jumped, just high enough to sail over his head as Damon charged, and whilst airborne brought her left hand down to tap on his helmet before landing behind him. "Never be too eager to attack. Aerowhip," spinning around on her left heel the aeromancer made a sweeping gesture with her right hand, as an ethereal lavender ribbon of compressed air ran down the length of her arm in a spiraling motion, streaking towards Damon as Lavender made a cracking motion with her arm, like cracking a whip as she aimed her aerowhip - for the first time using it like an actual whip instead of a lasso - towards the shadow rider's gluteus maximus. Or to put it crudely, a lash of an aerowhip, aimed right for Damon's ass! It wasn't meant to damage him in any way, although if it struck he'd no doubt feel it. If anything, it was more of a taunting/humiliation move meant to expose the openings in Damon's fighting style and a wake-up call on how he needed to adjust his tactics. Damon twitched behind his helmet as he turned to face Lavender. Now she was just mocking him. Probably rightfully so, considering his less than stellar fighting skills so far, but that was just cruel. He let out a very annoyed grunt, not sure how to counter her constant jumping around and the like. If he had access to his powers, then he could just bind her to the ground, but the gear was sealing off his powers or something. So long as he wore it, he was without the control of darkness. What could he really do to counter this, at this point? Lavender was just dodging everything, close range wasn't working out, he was doing better off with dynamic effects. He needed something to hit her even while she was dodging, he needed to split her attention. He guessed he had an answer for that. Damon slid down the Dragvisor behind the shield in an awkward manner, his hands full, before drawing a card between his ring finger and his pinky from the buckle on his belt. He tossed the sword into the air and slotted it in, catching the blade as it came back down. [ADVENT] All was quiet for a moment...until something BIG seemed to manifest in the surrounding area. Coming from the trees around, a large black eastern style mecha-dragon seemed to emerge from nothingness and flew at Lavender, trying to crash into her. ![]() Lavender would recognize several part of it, should she look at it. The torso was identical to Damon's shield, the head naturally identical to the weapon from earlier, and the tail had a suspiciously similar appearance to the sword Damon now held. Speaking of, the Shadowmancer wasn't just willing to stand still. No, he was watching and waiting, and the second Lavender moved to dodge, he was going to intercept her, and try a slash at her midsection! |

Perhaps it was a little mean-spirited of her to do that, Lavender thought to herself as Damon spun around to face her with an annoyed grunt. A practice fight was one thing, but mocking him with a humiliation move was another. "Something new, I see?" Lavender mused as Damon pulled out and slotted in another card... and then there was silence - but not for long. "Oh crap..." Lavender murmured as a mechanical version of a black Eastern dragon emerged from amongst the trees, flying straight at her. "So Selene isn't the only one with a pet dragon!" the aeromancer commented as she jumped up to avoid the dragon's ramming attack, landing on its back in the process, only to notice from the corner of her eye... Lavender grunted as the flat edge of Damon's saber struck her in the side, just barely missing her kidney, knocking the aeromancer off the dragon's back to land on the snow-covered ground, rolling a few times before recovering in a half-kneeling position. "Thank goodness I rolled with that," Lavender commented, grimacing as she clutched at her side with one hand on the location that was struck. By relaxing her body and letting the blow take her instead of tensing up against it, the aeromancer was spared the worst of the impact - although with Damon's rider-enhanced strength and speed it still hurt. "Saber gust!" Lavender swung around as she rose to her feet, a swirling column of air building up around her as she threw three consecutive (non-lethal) blades of wind at Damon. And, with a sudden squall and a blur of movement and snow, the aeromancer was gone, before reappearing several meters away from her last position at Damon's left flank. While not as refined as Chizu's technique, Lavender too was capable of moving with the wind and achieving inhuman speeds and reflexes. And with Damon rolling in the big guns, it was a cue for Lavender to pull out the stops. Another blur of movement accompanied by a gust of wind and a flurry of snow, Lavender was gone again, this time stopping just for a split second at Damon's right flank, before darting off again as the aeromancer executed a series of flash steps, zipping from one place to another in an attempt to confuse the shadow rider. |

A hit. Excellent. Dragblackker flew into the air, taking an aerial view while Damon kept to the ground. Lavender sent out three more bursts of wind, which he countered with his shield before noticing she was gone. And then she was back. Damon saw this and instantly grimaced. Aeromancers and their stupid SPEED. Once again he was finding himself wishing he could just use his shadowmancy. But no, this gear made his shadowmancy impossible to use while it was on. Alas, no such luck. He couldn't bind Lavender to her shadow and leave her standing in one spot. He was going to have to focus on what this gear could do to counter such a high speed style. She was going around him really fast, he needed to think of a good way to handle this...And right now Melee wasn't going to do that. From the corner of his eye he spotted something that could, though... "Dragblacker!" Damon yelled out, before leaping into the air. The rider gear let him soar pretty well into the air, albeit not as good as most other riders. Still, it was enough. The dragon flew down towards Damon and under him, the shadow rider landing on it's back as it flew away quickly before Damon jumped off again. Right next to his previously discarded Strike Vent weapon. He dropped his sword and took up the weapon again...And it's eyes began to glow... |

"Catch me if you can!" Lavender thought as she continued to run circles around Damon with her flash steps, to keep the shadow rider guessing as to where and when she would strike as the aeromancer stopped briefly again to stick out her tongue playfully at Damon before vanishing again in a speed blur. The aeromancer was aware however, that Damon's normal set of powers tended to neutralize said advantage of hers - but for some reason to this point she hadn't seen Damon use any shadowmancy... or perhaps he was unable to in his current state. Recalling that Damon had earlier mentioned how his shadowmancy powers that thing, perhaps that was the reason why he was unable to use shadowmancy. But either way, this was a disadvantage that Lavender would exploit. For a moment Lavender stopped her circling as Damon leaped onto the back of his mecha-dragon thingy, before jumping off its back and landing next to that dragon-headed flamer of his. "Let's wrap things up with this one..." Lavender commented as the orbs of air in her fists glowed brighter, indicating more air was being compressed inside them as Lavender once again picked up her super speed as Damon retrieved his ranged weapon, the dragon head's eyes glowing crimson as Lavender closed the gap, flying a few feet above ground towards Damon while leaving a flurry of snow in her wake, raising one of her fists. "And NOW!" Lavender thought as she punched her right fist forward, a furious lavender-colored cyclone surrounding her fist as she decided to engage Damon in a quickdraw... |

Damon saw the cyclone circle her first, knowing this attack of Lavender's was meant to be a knockout blow. He raised up the weapon at Lavender before being smashed in the face by her fist, sending him hurdling back towards the river as he dropped his shield. Still, he wasn't done yet. The Strike Vent fired off it's blast as Damon was falling towards the ice, before...it abruptly stopped. Not because Damon had stopped firing, no. But rather because, as Damon landed on the ice...He seemed to go through it. And not in the typical ice-breaking fashion. The river was just fine. It just seemed as if he...phased through it. A moment of silence. Dragblacker flew over the river, looking about, as if searching for it's master, before staring at Lavender, and then into the river below. "Lavender? Lavender? Where did you go?" Damon could be heard...But he couldn't be seen. And he couldn't see Lavender. Looking about the area would find nothing, but eventually if one were look into the river and see their reflection...They would see Damon, laying in the snow and propping himself while still changed, looking about. His helmet had one HELL of a crack in it, and the left eye had outright stopped glowing. Still, even though his reflection was there...He wasn't. This...was not in the nonexistant user's manual. |

Lavender's cyclone fist struck Damon squarely in the face, sending the shadow rider flying back just as he unleashed a black fireball, Lavender's eyes widening at the sight of the incoming globe of black flame. "Sh- Barrier!" Lavender hissed as she crossed her arms together in front of her face as a fireball went off in her face, the flames and smoke clearing to reveal the aeromancer standing her ground with a partially-formed shield - more of a glowing sheath of energy instead of the usual spherical barrier, the ground beneath her a patch of scorched earth, what with the snow being melted away by the fireball explosion. "Lavender? Lavender? Where did you go?" Lavender's ears perked up at the sound of Damon's voice... except that Damon was nowhere to be seen. Which was weird, with the amount of force she'd put into that punch, the shadow rider should have been knocked back to the river. But he was nowhere to be seen. "Damon? Talk to me!" Lavender replied as she walked over to the river, looking left and right. Although the aeromancer immediately stopped as soon as she saw Damon's reflection on the ice, except that Damon himself was nowhere to be seen still. "Dear god no... what have I done?" Lavender muttered, a certain feeling of dread descending upon the aeromancer as she inched towards where Damon's reflection was. |

Damon stood up slowly, cracking his neck as he did so. He looked around, trying to find the source of Lavender's voice but was having an exceptionally hard time of doing that. The entire area was empty, devoid of the woman he was just sparring with. "Hey now, come on, stop hiding. I think we can call that a match." He said, now looking up, thinking she'd gone airborne, but....he saw nothing. He moved to where the fireball landed, where Lavender was moments before, his reflection moving in the exact same way, but fading out of view. If Lavender couldn't see a reflection in something, she couldn't see where Damon's reflection was. Save for a small puddle or two he seemed to be out of sight. This was starting to get strange. Where was Dragblacker, where was Lavender? They were just here. His weapons were missing too, the entire place, save for the scorched bit of earth, was gone. It was as if he was the only one here, and that was kind of unsettling. But still. He'd just heard Lavender. She had to be here...right? He slowly backed away from the scorched earth, his head once again in view from the icy river's reflection. He was looking around, cautiously. He had his Strike Vent ready, just in case this was something crazy like a Dopant attack or something related to magic, or just....anything, really. Something was wrong here. "Hey now, come on, stop hiding. I think we can call that a match." Lavender watched as Damon's reflection looked upwards, presumably thinking that the aeromancer had gone airborne, although as soon as Damon left the ice's reflective surface he would be gone completely from view. Now that was a clue for the aeromancer. "Damon! Stay where you are!" Lavender called out to Damon. "No wait - go back onto the ice, where I can see your reflection!" the aeromancer said as she stood on the ice. |

Damon's head turned abruptly as he heard Lavender again. Where WAS she? And move to the river? His reflection? He carefully moved onto the ice, looking about. "What, you mean like right here?" He asked, before looking down and almost jumping back. He saw....Lavender and Dragblacker...But...looking up and around they were both just....not here! "What...the...HELL!?" He said, trying to process this whole THING going on right now. Lavender was being reflected in the ice, and so was Dragblacker, but they weren't HERE. And Lavender was wanting to see his reflection, but...He....So...Was he the same to them? Could they only see his reflection? ...What the hell did he just do? "Okay.....let's think about this logically for a second...." He said, to Lavender and himself, mainly to avoid a panic. Again, mostly in himself. "I'm seeing your reflection. You're seeing mine. Neither of us see each other though. At worst, I've slipped into an alternate reality VERY CLOSE to our own." He said, noting how that was working out. A...And hey...If he found a way in, then there had to be a way out, right? ...Right? ...Stupid Hyakuji woods and it's freaky portals....They weren't supposed to exist until deeper into the woods. "Hold up there, Damon," Lavender said as she saw Damon's reflection on the river's surface, and judging from the shadow rider's reaction he too must've seen her own reflection as well. Although neither one was able to see the other, just their reflections. "Okay.....let's think about this logically for a second.... I'm seeing your reflection. You're seeing mine. Neither of us see each other though. At worst, I've slipped into an alternate reality VERY CLOSE to our own." "Only one way to confirm this..." Lavender commented as she raised her left hand, an orb of compressed air swirling inside her grip. "If we're now in different spaces, then what I do to affect my space should not affect what is happening inside yours and vice-versa," the aeromancer said as she unleashed a Saber Gust at the ice, several feet in front of Damon's feet, the wind blade slicing through the ice and causing a column of water to splash upwards from the impact. Now, she would wait for Damon to do the same, to give her a sign. |

Much to Damon's surprise, Lavender's attack DID so something on his end. Just as the ice on her side cracked and the water splashed up on her end, it did on his end. "Whoa! Okay. That worked out on your end. Let me give it a shot." He said, moving away from where Lavender stood, not wanting to break the ice where she was standing. He threw off the Strike Vent, not wanting to melt the ice and cause the whole river to start cracking up. Instead, he clenched his hand into a fist. "Here's hoping something happens over there too." Damon said, before trying to punch down into the frozen river. But, there was no sound of cracking ice, no splashing water. Damon was crouched over the frozen river, hand through the ice...but the ice was still THERE.And scarily enough, his hand was missing. Or stuck. Or SOMETHING. He couldn't pull it back through the ice, that much he knew, but it seemed to be gone. He could feel a flat patch f ice, but...This...What?! Meanwhile on Lavender's end...Where Damon had punched....His hand was there, at first as a fist, but now open, and feeling around the ice. "What in the world is going ON here?!" Damon muttered as he tried to pull his arm back until he finally slipped on the ice, falling headfirst into it...and then going through it....only to phase through it back into, well, plain sight. ".....What...in...The...HELL!?" The shadow rider exclaimed in surprise and some relief. He turned and saw Lavender, both reflection and the real thing. Okay. People were people again. Not just creepy reflections without people. Edited by Captain, Dec 30 2011, 02:19 PM.

"Whoa! Okay. That worked out on your end. Let me give it a shot." Lavender pumped her right fist triumphantly as Damon's response was clear that Lavender's attack was affecting his space. And now, it was his turn to do the same to see if vice-versa was also true as the shadow rider stepped away from the aeromancer's position, dropping his weapon as he did, instead readying his fist for a punch. "Here's hoping something happens over there too." The shadow rider mused, before punching at the surface of the frozen river. There was no sound of ice breaking, no splash of water whatsoever to indicate the rider breaking the ice... but now Lavender was able to see Damon's hand in plain sight, now opening up to feel around on the surface of the ice, while his hand on the reflection appeared to be gone - this went on until the shadow rider tumbled forward as he slipped; falling headfirst into the ice - his reflection vanishing into it and then the rest of the rider now reemerging into plain sight in front of Lavender. ".....What...in...The...HELL!?" Damon exclaimed in equal parts shock and relief as he now saw Lavender, the aeromancer appearing just as surprised as well. "Man, that was just freaky..." Lavender commented as she looked around before looking at Damon. "I guess this new Rider thingy has some quirks that need working out... but it seems your Rider form doesn't take too well to reflective surfaces," the aeromancer closed an eye as she rested her chin on her left hand, with her left elbow resting upon her right hand. "I guess you'd better get off the ice huh? No telling what kind of freaky shit might happen next," the aeromancer commented as she stepped off the ice and back onto the river bank. |

"AGREED." Damon said vehemently, as he removed the buckle from his belt, returning to normal as Dragblacker vanished from the scene completely. He vanished from the ice, appearing beneath a tree back on shore, using his shadowmancy to do so. "This is what happens when I play around with untested, unknown gear..." He said, still a bit freaked out over the reflections thing. He slowly rose up from the snow, clutching his head. He was going to have a migraine thanks to the final Blow Lavender made, that was vicious. "Things I have learned today: Misdirection is something I always need. Fast people especially need to be dealt with via distractions and misdirection. The suit's got strong defense and attacking strength, but lacking in speed." He said out loud, analyzing what had occurred. "It completely locks away my Shadowmancy, cutting my versatility down immensely. And reflective surfaces are BAD." Reaffirming what Lavender had already said. |

"AGREED. This is what happens when I play around with untested, unknown gear..." Damon said as he removed the buckle from his belt, returning to normal as the mecha dragon vanished. Disappearing from the ice, the shadowmancer warped back to the shore from the shade of a nearby tree, clearly appearing rocked by Lavender's blow, and shaken by the mysterious turn of events. "Things I have learned today: Misdirection is something I always need. Fast people especially need to be dealt with via distractions and misdirection. The suit's got strong defense and attacking strength, but lacking in speed." "You nailed that one on the head, Damon, against a fast-moving opponent a direct approach doesn't work. Or rather, a direct approach seldom works - there are always exceptions; but under normal situations never attempt to charge head-on," Lavender replied, before rubbing the nape of her neck awkwardly. "Although... I'm sorry about hitting you so hard." The aeromancer smiled sheepishly. "It completely locks away my Shadowmancy, cutting my versatility down immensely. And reflective surfaces are BAD." Damon reaffirmed what Lavender had suspected - he is unable to use his Rider form and shadowmancy concurrently. "Versatility is always good - I have to admit that your shadowmancy is probably better-suited to handling my power set. And on my side, what my aeromancy can't handle, I have good ol' military firepower and tactics to get the job done," Lavender said as she rested a hand on her hip, over her holster which held her sidearm. |
