Christmas Eve, Area around the Abandoned Warehouse District

It was odd for so many people to be working at this hour, especially this close to the Holiday of Holidays.

Small squads of Riotroopers had setup roadblocks and checkpoints to all exits and entrances to the district. An operation was in progress, and it was their duty to provide an outer screening force to prevent outside forces from interfering.

In the cold winter air, armed with Energy Weapons and other heavy ordnance, they stood vigil, making sure that the troublesome process that was occuring within, stayed within.

...

Earlier

"Sorry to make you work on Christmas eve, but we finally found him. He's not getting away this time." she told Kouta "Considering how much he's interested in you, so he'll take the bait if you go in."

It was a simple enough explanation, and the briefing was informal. There wasn't any real need for an elaborate plan on Kouta's part.

"You're going to have to go in alone though. I can't risk losing more people, and a fight between you two will inevitably be messy. There's going to be troops surrounding the area to try to contain it, but it's a wide area and they can't really support you. All you have to do is keep him busy and in place for awhile. Don't fight recklessly alright? If you can defeat him, do so, but don't throw your life away and don't get yourself hurt unnecessarily."

There was a mildly worried expression on her face this time.

It was obvious she didn't like what she was about to do, but stubbornly continued on, seeing the necessity of having to do it.

"I'll be expecting your result."

Of course, Isaka wasn't interested in Kouta...in fact, the man had not discovered the strange condition the warrior's body underwent when abusing the Golden Power. As such...it wasn't Kouta being sent alone as bait, but rather, his female counterpart: Kotoko. This meant that whatever plan Miyuki had cooked up needed to act fast, simply because of the fact the Golden Power was always active when Kotoko was the one present, and by very nature limited the combat time Kuuga had.

Of course, it wasn't even long until the battle started.

It was the usual spiel between the two...Isaka wanted Kotoko to join him, she refused. Isaka wanted her power for his own, via breeding a Gaia Memory within her to mimic as much of the Golden Power as it could contain. It was useless talking really. Pleasantries were thrown out the window as both people assumed their transformed states: Rising Mighty Kuuga and the T2 Weather Dopant.

At that point, they were communicating simply through battle. Kotoko expressing her desire to win while Isaka expressed his desire to purge the world of all the things he thought wrong. It was a flurry of colors going through the warehouse grounds, Isaka's elemental attacks matching Kuuga's different armors. Fire for fire, water for water, wind for wind and earth for earth. They were matching each other almost perfectly as Kuuga was forced to cycle through every weapon she had to match the multi-talented Dopant.

Even then, the fact that was only the tip of the iceberg for Isaka's abilities made things even more difficult for Kotoko to keep up with. She could equally match him, but the fact of the matter was, she couldn't even land a hit on him. It was a battle of attrition, one that would likely leave the abandoned grounds if she didn't think of something soon. And to think...Isaka wasn't even using all of his abilities just yet.

It was infuriating, and the fact Isaka remained as silent as she did make it worse. But...she needed to keep her rage in check. It was tempting to try and finish things with Ultimate but if she fought with hatred...she'd become no better than Isaka. There were many things going through her mind as many of her attacks failed to connect, even the Rising Pegasus Bowgun couldn't hit when he could easily block it.

So with one on one combat proving to be useless...she had no choice but to try and use the Gouram. The ancient mechanical beetle responding to its master's call and locking Isaka in its pincers out of surprise. This allowed for Kotoko to try and land a Rising Calamity Titan in as she commanded her ally to ram it into the top of her sword...unfortunately even that wasn't enough as the man broke free by once more morphing his body under the influence of the Quetzalcoatus memory.

To this...the battle escalated to the skies as Kotoko was forced to ride her mechanical friend as a giant surfboard. It was hard to make out what was going on now as two streaks of light just collided in the air over and over. As this dragged on though...it was clear that Isaka had the advantage. No matter what Kotoko did, she was countered. Even more, she had a time limit for her power boosts, Isaka, thus far, proved to be as fresh as he was since the fight started.

So it was time...for Kotoko to get desperate. She chose to go with Amazing Mighty, the first stage of the "black warrior" that could end the world if it was used wrong. Another encounter led to the Gouram being damaged and rendered unable to fly...to which Kotoko leaped off and onto Isaka's back. She went was far as to try and rip the wings off the man's back, only to be thrown off.

She was losing track of time now.

Every moment felt like an eternity as Isaka continued to overwhelm her. She had power now, but she lacked a means to make contact with him. And yet, she continued to get up and try again. She'd keep trying until Miyuki got here. She'd keep trying until Isaka was defeated. She just refused to succumb to her own darkness and use her true power. More and more her heart was being filled with negative thoughts.

She didn't want to lose control.

She promised she wouldn't run amok anymore. The clock just kept ticking as Kotoko was forced into a defensive battle now. She hadn't lost hope, she just kept waiting for her chance. She'd make a miracle happen...she;d do whatever it takes.

For today, Isaka was to be defeated. No matter the cost.

It had been almost too easy, considering the trouble he had given them thus far. Locked in combat, with difficult opponents before them, it would be difficult to focus on anything else. Rather, fighting directly, to focus anything else would have been suicide.

The dim lighting of the warehouse district made everything that much easier.

"I think that's enough fighting for one Christmas." Miyuki said, partially stepping out of the shadows to reveal her presence. Her voice was unnaturally calm and even, despite the precarious situation her fiance was in. More unusually, a vermilion red coat took the place of her usual dark suitjacket. One that Kouta would have seen carefully kept away, yet never worn until now. "Nobody move."

She took another few steps out, push-dragging something behind her, finally unceremoniously dropping it just before her. In the dim, moonlit corner of the warehouse, the unconscious body of Shinkuro Sayoko lay at her feet.

Although quiet, the slow and soft rise and fall of her chest meant she was still breathing. Sayoko was alive. For now at least. But, in Miyuki's right hand was a Colt Automatic pistol, aimed squarely at the unconscious girl's head. The safety was off, and, with the hammer down, her finger seemed to be half-squeezing the trigger.

Just a hair away from going off, Miyuki's trigger control was the only thing preventing the young girl's head from being blown off. However, that could change at any moment, with literally a hair's breadth to go, any sudden movement or act that could surprise her would likely see Sayoko's end.

"If you don't want her to die, stay where you are and shift out of your transformation." she told Isaka calmly, with Viper-like eyes that exuded a cruel air.

Both combatants were surprised at Miyuki's appearance. The black and gold warrior's eyes flashed for a brief moment to reflect this, though beyond that, Kotoko didn't budge from her spot. She was too tired, the double dose of Golden Power proving to be a lot for her to control. She was barely able to maintain her transformation due to the amount of energy she had both outputted and wasted, as Miyuki arrived just as the Amazing Mighty Kick had been blocked and resisted.

"...Sayoko..." Isaka was infuriated. Miyuki had bothered to harm the only pure person left in this corrupt world. And for that, she had to pay...though all he could do was remain where he was, wrapping his wings around him like a cloak, trying to maintain his composure and think his options through rather carefully. Any sudden moves and Sayoko was dead, he could see it in Miyuki's eyes that she wasn't bluffing.

"...Why..."

Only the intervention for the young girl's life would come from someone other than Isaka. It was Kotoko, shaking uncontrollably in rage as Miyuki had done the most offensive thing she could possibly due to someone like her. "I was hoping for backup...instead your resort to more unnecessary methods...must you always toy with lives of those who want to just live normally!?" Kotoko still hadn't forgiven her for the punishment she had given Louise.

Making Kotoko mad here was unfortunately a crucial mistake. The fact she was losing, the fact she was slowly losing hope at surviving, was pushing the Arcle to the dark side in order to keep going. She couldn't keep her mind clear, meaning the Arcle would resort to doing whatever it took to accomplish the user's goal. It was clear that she wasn't going to remain sane any longer. "I guess I really can't live up to your expectations...you didn't even trust me to do this..." the red eyes slowly turned black as the warrior turned to Miyuki...beneath her mask she was smiling. "Miyuki~" and...despite looking threatening right now, the voice sounded so happy calling her out.

Of course, it was time for Isaka to actually act as Kotoko slowly advanced towards Miyuki. This put Sayoko in even more danger and as such...did the only thing he could move forth to restrain Kotoko. "...let her go, I'll do anything you ask." he began, though it was clear he was beginning to struggle holding Kotoko back. "Though I'd have to question the use of such unstable bait to lure me out."

"You've done well to last this long, Kouta." she said emotionlessly. "But something more permanent is required."

Her left hand pulled something out of the pockets of her greatcoat, and casually cast it towards Isaka's feet, landing messily on the ground before them.

Like with the incident with Louise, it was a scroll of finest calfskin, the vellum inscribed with patterns and symbols of a magical nature. Though seemingly meaningless at first, the various symbols shifted into a comprehensible language for the benefit of those reading without knowledge of magecraft.

Quote:

Binding magecraft: Target - Takamachi Miyuki

The Crests of the Takamachi family hereby command: Provided that the following conditions are met, this oath shall become a commandment and bind the target without exception.

Oath:

To the head of the Takamachi Lineage of Magi, actions and intentions to harm or kill Isaka and Sayoko Shinkuro will be forbidden for as long as the conditions are met. The edict shall be enforced even unto future generations, provided the conditions remain unbroken.

Conditions:
The destruction of any and all Gaia Memories of any generation in the posession of Isaka Shinkuro and his immediate family, to never seek replacements, nor any other source of power unnatural, and to maintain an oath to never act nor seek to cause harm to others ever again. For as long as these conditions are met, the oath is inviolable by the current and future heads of the Takamachi.

A simple, sword-shaped cross pattern was etched in blood at the bottom. Her magical crest, made from her own blood, was pulsing in the same vermilion that traced the edge of her magecraft, showing that the spell was already established and was currently working.

When the conditions were fulfilled, the contract would become an unbreakable curse that denied her free will and would leave her unable to act against him.

"You may as well asked me to kill myself instead." Isaka said with a heavy sigh as he relinquished his hold on Kotoko. "This body cannot live without these Gaia Memories...though without Sayoko, my life is meaningless anyway." his research was all for naught. All the modifications on his body lead to a dependence on the toxin. He was still humane because of that girl, that much was certain but...it seemed he wasn't quite ready for this. He had been searching for a way he could remain with her but it seemed...his time was up.

So one by one, memory after memory was removed from his body. Weather, T2 Weather, Invisible, Quezelocoatus, countless more really. A small pile of around ten different ones. And with that...he crushed them all under his boot. Made sure there was nothing left of them before slowly approaching Sayoko to pick her up. "At least, let me carry her home. I want to spend my last moments with her." it was clear without the memories he wasn't going to last anymore.

His face was slowly being devoured by the living connectors, blood dripping onto the unconscious girl's form. His back was already turned as he slowly left. Walking as fast as he could before his body was finally consumed.

And this was where Kotoko's trance stopped as she reverted to her human form. Was it really going to end like this? Were these cowardly tactics all it took? Was forcing Isaka to kill himself the only way? He still had his heart...he could have been saved if there was time. But...he chose this. She shouldn't worry for him and the girl in his arms from now on but...it still didn't sit right with her.

Miyuki merely nodded consent, releasing the tension on the trigger, and re-engaging the safety as she quietly walked towards the memories, bending down to examine the crushed remains. Though she'd felt something akin to a surge of energy fill the air when Isaka crushed them, it didn't hurt to be sure.

So this was all of them, huh? she thought.

Picking up a fragment, she quietly examined it to make sure it was clear they were all well and truly destroyed. At this point, without his Gaia memories, Isaka was nothing more than just another man.

She turned her head, in time to watch Isaka walking away from her. The distance was about 10 metres.

...Child's play.

"By the way..." she said as she rose, pulling out a submachine gun from the inside of her coat with her left hand. A Minibea PM9. In a quick motion, the barrel was casually leveled at Isaka's back. "I'm not actually the successor."

The burst of noise filled the air, exposing Isaka's back to a rain of automatic fire from 9mm hollowpoint rounds. Without a Dopant's thick hide to protect him, this was intended to be less of a battle and more a mere disposal.

There were a lot of things running through his mind as the bullets filled him up. Though he didn't try to escape he just...protected Sayoko as best as he could, his modified body along him some final words as he hit the ground unceremoniously. "It is nice to know...that I entrusted her life...to someone as rotten as I..." of course, there wouldn't even be a body left afterwards, as living connectors began spreading more and more...consuming the remains until there was nothing left.

"...Was that really necessary, he'd already given up. He was already dying, he would have been better off knowing that Sayoko could be entrusted to someone." Kotoko spat. She didn't even care about the blatant lie, she knew Miyuki enough to see through the wording, and that situation had already been explained long ago to her. "So what, you going to kill her too now?" at this point Kotoko was just this close from hitting Miyuki right now, while out of her transformation of Kuuga, she still had one more up her sleeve...

"There's no point in that." she replied, not really looking at Kouta. "Come to think of it... this is the first time you've seen how I really work, isn't it?"

With a casual shrug she tossed away the now-empty weapon. Miyuki wasn't all that concerned about it. She'd stolen it years ago off the corpse of a former JDF officer during an incident in the city, and kept it in storage until today.

She walked towards the unconscious girl, tucking she pistol away.

"Well, now you know. This is what it means to be close to me."

Without any outward sign of emotion or pity, she expressionlessly she looked down at the young girl, and bent down to examine her.

Sayoko was still breathing at least, and didn't seem visibly hurt. At least, not physically.

Though the body had disappeared, consumed by the connectors, the spilled blood remained as final testament to the cold execution of Isaka Shinkuro, and had spilled all over his sister's clothing clothing as he protected her from the storm of bullets.

But, it was important that no contradictions would remain at the scene.

Miyuki took off one of her gloves, and rested her hand against the girl's forehead.

"Beklagter, meine Wörter, werden geglaubt. Weiß ist Schwarz. Schwarz ist Weiß.."

Alteration of memory.

A simple hypnosis that, while common, was normally useless against an aware individual. However, an unconscious target had little defence to resist such a thing, and Miyuki favoured it for tying up loose ends.

The past few hours was turned into a blur, with vague memories of being kidnapped by a drug dealer in relation to her brother's illegal practices, and Isaka attempting to protect her in an escape. As long as the images formed were not vastly contradictory, the mind would rationalise it in some way.

If not in life, then at least, in her memory, she would be able to recall him fondly.

"...Sayoko... I'm sorry. Please, don't end up like this, like me. Ok?"

...

The spell completed, she fished the girl's pocket for her cellphone, and dialed for the emergency services. As the phone rang, she quietly put it back into Sayoko's hand, and got up, calmly walking away from the scene.

"Let's go. Shadow will have begun to packup the blockade after hearing the gunfire, and police and paramedics will be tracing the phone here soon. We need to be gone before then."

Despite all this, Kotoko was at least to see what made Miyuki act the way she did, what forced her to keep people away from herself all this time. Of course, even so, Kotoko didn't really say anything in response and instead approached the fallen Gouram, whose wings were too battered to fly back on its own. Both users of the Amadam crystal were too exhausted to use their natural healing methods in this case.

"Just help me get him loaded onto a truck back to HQ. He can't fly because of the whole bait thing." Kotoko spoke just as emotionlessly. too much blood had been spilled, and for that, the woman just wanted to go home and sleep the rest of the night off.

She nodded wordlessly, and walked off. About a minute later, the still silence of the early Christmas morning was broken by the sound of a motor engine. Bright headlights pierced through the darkness as a small van approached, finally stopping near Kouta and the Gouram.

The passenger's side door opened as Miyuki motioned from the driver's seat.

"The back door is open. Load it and get in."

Thankfully the Gouram had enough wing strength left to hover before being pushed inside by Kotoko. "Thanks for the help." she commented rather dryly, making one last check on whether the beetle was nice and secure and patting it on its head for a job well done. Still, with that accomplished, Kotoko remained silent as she climbed into the truck's passenger side and closed the door...and almost immediately resting her head against the closed window.

She was tired, angry and a right now just wanted to get home and sleep the rest of the night away. Maybe even consider replanning that trip to Asakusa so there was a semblance of happiness on her Christmas...

No time was wasted after everyone was aboard to leave. There was little compelling reason to stick around afterall, especially not after that.

That was why she'd used a minivan. In a country where they were so ubiquitous as trees were to a forest, another such vehicle driving around wasn't going to be noticed or remembered, especially not out of a warehousing district.
