This shop was the very same shop that he went to last year with Oliver to buy Christmas presents for the WDA Christmas party gift exchange thing. The whole place was littered with people doing some late Christmas shopping, though most seemed to come just to look around before going out for some real shopping. Not Seth though. He found the place to be rather up to his liking, thanks for the stuff sold being gentle on his wallet. Everything around him seemed pretty much unchanged from last year. The people streaming along the street in thick warm coats and scarfs, snow that steadily piles up on the road as they fell from the sky, that fake Santa just across the street, the only difference was that he was shopping alone this time.

Which, sorta felt a bit lonely. Not that he hadn't done anything to remedy it, but no one seemed to be able to spare much time being so close to Christmas itself. Na, don't get him wrong. Youma was the first person he asked to accompany him for shopping, but...

...Eh.

Apparently she was not in her room. Or... was still mad at him and was doing her very best to ignore his very existence...

...

"Forever alone, huh," He said softly, taking a familiar looking stuffed dinosaur from an otherwise completely cleared row of goods. Just like this little dude here, alone when everyone else goes off on their own ways.

"Forever alone?" Hana repeated, leaning over his shoulder as she said it. She walked around him and faced him with her usual smile. "It's getting a lot colder, don'tcha think?" She looked up at the sky briefly to watch the snowflakes fall all around them. "Are you Christmas shopping?" the short-haired girl asked, noticing how he was on his lonesome. Why else would he be here all alone? Unless he was waiting for someone again.. But it was this time of year! Everyone else was bustling about getting gifts. Besides, wouldn't waiting for someone and going out happen on Christmas Day itself?

Hana fiddled with the ends of her bow. Would she be able to spend Christmas with Seth? It was a holiday for lovers and he didn't seem like he had a girlfriend or anything so..! Cold weather great for cuddling, delicious food that she could feed him and a conveniently placed mistletoe at the end of the day..!!!! The kunoichi was beside herself with excitement as she shook her head frantically with her face red.

And that only made her look like a weirdo to someone who's completely oblivious to what's going on inside her head. "Ah... yes, glad to see you getting excited about me Christmas shopping... for whatever reason..." He said with a bit of hesitation, edging away from her ever so slightly, replacing the stuffed dinosaur back on the shelf. Wherever did she came from though, he had no idea. Slipping in and out like a ninja, popping from within the shadows and sneaking up on him without him noticing... She needs to stop doing that, it gave him a heart attack last time.

"So what are you doing here, stalking me, or Christmas shopping like everyone else?"
He said plainly as though he never doubted her to take on such a shady hobby, moving up to the next row of shelf for further present browsing. Not that he minded, he just needs to get used to it.

"Ah, me? I really don't know anyone, so I don't need to," she said matter-of-factly. It was true, Hana didn't know anyone.. The only friend she had was Seth, and she already had his gift all figured out. It was kind of sad to think about, which was the exact reason she didn't think about it. What use was negative thinking? It'd just bring her down anyway.

Since Seth was her friend, they just had to spend Christmas together! But she couldn't just ask willy-nilly.. There was still a chance he would reject her, after all. She had to wait for the opportune moment where he was more likely to say yes. Even if telling him the truth about her and how she probably was the most loneliest person in Hyakuji would have him more inclined to say yes, she didn't want to. She knew that if she did, it really would make her unsociable and depressed.

Seeing as she wasn't going to ask at that moment, she decided to make small talk. "Who are you buying a present for? Someone you like? If it's a girl, I can help you out," she offered as she picked up a glass reindeer and gingerly put it back on its display. Why exactly was she here? It was just pure coincidence she had bumped into Seth. The truth was, she was looking for another boytoy.. Someone easier to woo. Hana was getting impatient with Seth romance-wise so she figured if she found someone else, she could just leave him be.

But no.. She couldn't find anyone. It looks like she'll have to stick with Seth a little longer.

"Um..." He hesitated slightly as he took out a piece of paper that lists all the people he wanted to give presents to. Though the content of it is not something he wanted to explicitly share with anyone else. Most of them are girls anyway...

Oliver's right. You have way too many girlfriends.

"I don't have any, sheesh!" He said with a bit of chagrin, suddenly making his way out of the store, fuming slightly in annoyance, completely forgetting for a moment that Hana was there with him.

I dunno... he just doesn't feel the excitement and anticipation of the coming Christmas this year as opposed to last year. It's just... there seems to be a lot of things lacking this year that makes it feel... empty. He's going Christmas shopping just because he feels... responsible to do so... without the expectation of seeing the present receiver's bright smiling faces.

Man, this year's Christmas is so boring, he thought, as he kicked away the snow at his feet.

Hana peered over Seth's shoulder as he brandished a list. Wah.. so many girls' names.. As soon as his tore his gaze away from the piece of paper, Hana hastily turned away, acting as if she were too busy doing something else to read his list behind his back. ..Only she didn't have anything to do so she pretended to be incredibly fascinated with a snow globe instead.

As soon as Seth stormed out of the store with his defensive reply, the short-haired girl looked back at him in puzzlement. What was he so annoyed about..? Realising that Seth's figure was starting to disappear, Hana ran after him, crying, "Ch-Ch-Chotto! Wait for me!!" This was unlike Seth.. The kunoichi frowned.

"Hey, why'd you walk off? Do you want me off your back so much?" she joked, walking up beside him. What if her kidding around was actually the truth? But.. It's not like he's been avoiding her or something. And it's not like he doesn't like her.. I mean, they were friends! Even he said so himself that time.

"Something wrong?" she asked seriously, looking over at his face with a sober smile.

"It's nothing, really," He wasn't trying to run away from her, that much was certain. He's not shooing her off now, isn't he? Turning around on his heel he slumped into a conveniently placed bench nearby, staring listlessly at one of the snow-covered highrise building. "I dunno... I just don't feel like celebrating Christmas this year... It just doesn't feel right,"

Now why would he even say that? He's got everything he ever wanted, friends, money (albeit just a little), time, the WDA Christmas party that's going to be held about a week before the actual 25th of December, what else is missing?

Well. He knew very well what's missing, he just didn't want to say it. Or rather, he's trying to keep his mind away from it. But considering the Christmas experience last year... there's no way he'll be able to forget it. Not when he still has her in his mind... He should probably just forget about it already. Maybe he didn't want to forget.

It's been a year, why must he still cling to the past like this?

Hana followed him and sat down beside him, looking down at the ground as she listened. So something was troubling him. Something was missing in his Christmas? For Hana, Christmas was nothing special. She never celebrated it when she was with her clan, and she only started to once she was traveling alone. I guess you could say it distracted her from the painful loneliness.. Every year, she'd party her troubles away.

But the same couldn't be said for Seth. Perhaps he was homesick? Missing his family? Bummed out about having such little money from paying off that debt? "What would make it feel right, then?" she asked earnestly, looking up at his face, "What's missing?" If she couldn't spend Christmas with him after all.. That would be fine. Making him happy would just make her one step closer to her goal, anyway..

Well... even if he wanted to tell her he didn't know how to say it. What was he supposed to say, his girlfriend disappeared for a year since last December? That's not entirely right, she's not his girlfriend. Though he doesn't deny how much he liked her...

He slipped his hand inside his pocket, and drew out a pocket watch. The very same pocket watch that was supposed to be a present to a certain loud-mouthed and rude girl a year ago. He clicked the cover open, revealing a clock and a glass-walled interior. A picture should have been here... he really shouldn't have given her the camera. Ah, but the memory is still fresh in his mind, there's no need for the disposable camera. V made sure he wouldn't forget. "Let's just say," He snapped the pocket watch closed, and shoved it back into his pocket. "This Christmas lacks one very important person. And it doesn't seem like the person would show up after all this time,"

What, there's no need to elaborate any more than that now, is there? Even if Hana's his friend, there's no need for her to know too much. Unless she starts to ask. Which he really hoped she doesn't.

Honestly, Hana had no clue what Seth was really concerned about. The thought of this important person being a past lover hadn't even crossed her mind. While being oblivious to this truth, the kunoichi began to wonder about who this important person could be. A mother? A father? A brother? A sister? A son? A daughter?? Ah, hold on a minute, he's much too young to be a father. But what about Youma saying he was playing with girls a lot? It could be possible!! .. This train of thought was getting fruitless fast.

She thought of asking about it, but it'd probably only remind him about things he didn't want to think about. Besides, men didn't like nosy women right? Hana looked thoughtfully up at the sky, scratching her cheek. "Then.. isn't this convenient? I'm here now! I can replace this person. I'll be this important person this year!" she nodded to herself, breaking out into a grin. And with this, she could be a part of his Christmas! It was a double victory!

"I don't know who this person was or what kind of bond you shared but.." The raven-haired girl looked up at the boy beside her, hands positioned on her hips. "I'll do my best to be what they were to you.. After all, you're my friend and it pains me to see you like this." She smiled at Seth warmly. Would he accept or reject it? Maybe he didn't think she was good enough. Ah well.. The least she could do was try.

"PFFT!" Yea, he couldn't help but snort in amusement. Man, really. Had she known just what Aki really is to him, that could have easily been taken as a love confession. But of course, she probably didn't know any better so it was kind of funny to see her saying that. "Oh boy, I admire your enthusiasm," He said while fighting back from laughing out loud. "But yea, you can't just 'replace' someone in a person's life. No two people are the same,"

Yep. You can't replace her. Never will he replace her. Maybe it's a bit naive and idealistic, but what does he care, really?

"Still, nice to know there's someone here being worried about me. Oh, how it makes me feel so loved~" He said in a sing-song voice that was partly sarcastic and partly honest. "Still... you sure you don't have anyone to give presents to?"

She puffed out her cheeks, her eyebrows slanted in anger as her face flushed in embarrassment. He was .. laughing at her! Hana didn't know what was funny, it seemed like a viable solution to her. Had she known this important person was someone he liked, she could've handled this situation better. And by better, she meant in a scenario that didn't include Seth laughing at her and possibly include him blushing and moving away from her. But still, she was clueless.

"So what, I'm not good enough?" she asked rather abrasively, being annoyed. "People are replaced all the time! It's not about whether they're the same or not, it's what they mean to you! I didn't have any parents but--" Oh shit. She accidentally revealed something personal about herself. With clenched fists, she continued, "The point is.. You just need to find someone who does for you what this person did for you! If I can't be that person.. then fine, I understand. But if you're going to be down just thinking of this person and not doing anything about it, at least find someone! If they can't replace them, then find the next best thing.. Geez."

What was she getting all angry and emotional for? This wasn't her problem.. This had nothing to do with her so.. Why did she feel like a fire was burning in her chest? She clutched a hand to her chest, looking away from Seth. Why had she acted like that? She was supposed to be acting nice and feminine and understanding. Things like that. Not like how she usually acts.. Why was her own personality so hard to control recently? Maybe it had been from acting like this so much that she couldn't handle it..?

And then.. Seth's question. The fire in her chest instantly extinguished. He brought her thoughts to a place she didn't want to think about. Her arm went limp and fell back to her side. "That's right.." she said in a low voice, her eyelids flickering for a brief moment. "You should be grateful you have people who care about you. I .. don't have anyone." She smiled.. It was a very lonely smile.

That certainly took him by surprise. Maybe it's because he had always thought of her to be a quiet, reserved and docile person that seeing her explode like that felt way out of the ordinary. Not exactly sure what to say, he simply blinked in confusion as she quieted down. She's not kidding, is she? Doesn't look like she's joking or playing around...

"Baka, don't say that. You have me now, right?" he raised a hand and gave her a knock on the head, just for the intent of raising the mood for a bit. If she really believed in what she just said, there's no reason for her to feel sad about... her long gone parents, he supposed. But still... you can't deny it. No matter how right she was, no matter how much you try, the sad feeling will always be there when you remember the ones who will never return.

"...Yea, but even so..." He turned away from her, scratching his face, attempting to hide away the little trace of embarrassment on his face. "I dunno if you would actually say all that... if you know that... well," Le sigh. So gonna regret this. Especially when it's her. "...Never mind," he switched decision on the fly, deciding against admitting it. Nope, he's not gonna give her the weapon she had just been deprived of when they first met.

Hana looked up in surprise to her friend's words before her head was met with his fist. "Ow!" She had him, huh? She closed her eyes and chuckled. Could she really believe that, sincerely? No, of course she couldn't. The kunoichi had no use for such pretty words.. But it wouldn't do to disagree with him. What would that leave her? "I guess you're right," she said softly, staring into the ground. Despite her little lecture earlier, Hana felt as if nothing could be changed about her situation. Nothing could replace her clan, her family. What she preached before was simply empty words she had no faith in. Why was she trying so hard to cheer him up anyway?

In any case, she had to shake off this depressing feeling she had right now if she wanted to convince Seth to spend Christmas with her. Hah.. It was funny. Something she was planning so much for and getting all excited for seemed so trivial to her now. "So exactly what was this important person to you anyway?" she asked, her tone still low in spirit despite her efforts. In truth, Hana couldn't care less. Hana couldn't care less about anything how she was right now.

Aww, dammit.. She had to go and feel all depressed right when Christmas was coming up. The girl crossed her arms feeling her chin connect with her chest. This was no good..

Crud dammit, she just had to ask that so directly like that, does she? He could just shove the question aside, but doing so twice in a row doesn't seem to be that good of a decision. But would saying anything even matter anymore? She seemed to be in a bit of a dilemma after that little outburst, despite how much she tries to hide it.

Way to go Seth, making someone depressed just before Christmas. "...Just someone really close," He settled with that as his answer. It's not too vague, and not entirely false either. Unless he had just been imagining it all this time... he does consider Aki and himself to be close.

Is there really anyone who can replace Aki? Because if there is...

Eh. Let's drop it at that. For now there's someone here right next to him who's feeling down and sad. Unless he fixes this situation he's gonna curse himself to the end of the world and turn himself into oblivion. "You know, you're really ruining the atmosphere here for me," He scratched his head, giving a small faked sigh of exasperation. "I wanted to invite you to a Christmas party that's gonna be held at one of my workplace, but now I dunno if you wanted to come or not,"

There. Are you happy now? She got what she wanted without even having to work for it, for once.
