A BOARD Safehouse somewhere downtown, Soon after Missing Meandering Magus

It was a typical, nondescript building near the edge of the downtown area. Far from BOARD's main headquarters, it was used mainly for 'interviewing' subjects of interest and holding people under protection by Shadow.

Afterall, only an idiot would take the enemy right to their headquarters for interrogation. There was too much that could go wrong. To keep people from guessing where they were, they were brought in blindfolded as they approached.

Although unremarkable on the outside, the inside contained some of the most advanced electronics in BOARD's arsenal, used mainly for monitoring the surrounding area as well as the inside. There were several interrogation rooms, each with the usual 2-way mirrors, seats, tables, recording equipment, and overly bright lights. Holding and rest facilities were also included.

The outside door was permanently manned by some rookie field agents who were being screened for possible inclusion into Shadow's roster. Though, considering the facility had never been compromised, their job was basically that of a doorman.

Miyuki sat across a table from Louise. Legs crossed, she was obviously in a fairly relaxed position, quietly eating a slice of cake. However, although the position was relaxed, her eyes were a different story, seemingly staring into the soul of the young magus in front of her.

Although normally a professional interrogator would speak to the subjects, Miyuki decided to speak to her directly this time around.

There were a pair of armed guards to either side of her, and another one by Louise. Further, another pair was stationed immediately outside to watch the door. And, despite the chilly air from the room's overly powerful air conditioning, the area around Louise seemed almost like a warm afternoon in daylight, from the number of lights directed at Saito's owner apparent former master.

"I'd offer you some, but you already wasted yours." she said calmly, as she set the fork down for a moment "You realise how much trouble you're in right now right?"

Despite the great lengths to which BOARD went to make her feel uncomfortable, Louise felt rather bored sitting in the interrogation room. If anything she had felt more uncomfortable on the walk in being led through freezing-cold air-conditioned rooms. Once they sat her down and shined all those lights on her she started feeling quite a bit better. Warmth was a lot easier to manage than cold, so while her eyes had not yet adjusted to the brightness of the room the temperature was adequate.

The only annoying thing that stood out to her, really, was the silhouette of an annoying woman sitting across from her casually eating cake. Louise sat in the chair that was not meant for someone of her petite stature with her arms crossed, waiting impatiently for Miyuki to finish. After all, they'd taken her wand away. What was she going to do, pull her riding crop and whip Miyuki unconscious? Not with all those armed guards around she wasn't. If Miyuki wanted to waste time, that was fine. If she wasted too much, though, Louise decided that a nap was probably possible considering how large the chair was.

Miyuki either had excellent timing or simply knew how to read her opponents well. Just before Louise would have tried to shift in place to get a better resting position she set the fork down and finished the bite of cake she'd just eaten. "I'd offer you some, but you already wasted yours," the woman said, referring to the slice Kouta Azuma had given her that she'd been forced to leave behind. "You realize how much trouble you're in right now right?"

Louise did not look impressed. Then again it took quite a bit to impress her, so dragging things out wasn't a way to get her to pay attention. Instead Miyuki would see a bored eyes-half-closed glare inaccurately shot past the bright lights towards her. It was clear from how Louise wasn't quite looking Miyuki in the eyes that she couldn't yet see through the brightness. "Could you please get to the point, Miss Miyuki?" she asked in polite French, though her tone wasn't as polite as her choice of words. "In case you haven't noticed I'm new here, so no, I do not realize. Perhaps if you told me already this would proceed more smoothly?"

Oh yes, it was very clear that Louise had no idea how much trouble she was in. She just had to blow things up in a city of magus, espers and Kamen Riders. The one city fully equipped to handle problems of her class. Even worse, the one on the scene was the one woman whose specialty was making magi like her suffer.

Like many people who didn't bother to get to know her intimately, Louise would likely learn to hate Miyuki Takamachi.

"Mmmm... I'm fairly sure there are very few mage associations which allow you to use wide area bombardment whenever you please in populated areas." she shrugged "Well, alright, I suppose we should begin properly then."

She reached out to the table, and pushed a button on the recorder. The Cameras and microphones began duly taking down the sequence of events.

"With me is the subject Louise Françoise le Blanc de la Vallière, a magus. The subject of this interview is the circumstances behind the damage in the downtown area caused by Miss Vallière. As the subject does not appear to speak Japanese, the medium of communication will be French. My name is Takamachi Miyuki, a field agent for BOARD. Also present are-"

"Agent Otogiri Sou"

"And-"

"Agent Yagaruma Shun"

"As well as-"

"Agent Soujiro Tendouji"

"All of the Shadow Field team. Before we continue, Miss Vallière, I am obligated to inform you of your rights. As you are not under police arrest, you do not have the right to legal counsel. However, you may remain silent and are not obligated to provide self-incriminating evidence. The charges against you may, if you are found guilty, result in up to twenty years incarceration. Cooperation and good faith however, may lighten the sentence or reduce severity. You may begin with how you got here, what you were doing, and then how events transpired."

Finally, it began. All parties were introduced and Louise noted that all present--excepting herself, of course--had the weirdest unnatural names on the planet. They were all much weirder than 'Hiragasaito'. What kind of person gets named 'Otogirisou'? She almost felt bad for his misfortune, then remembered that this was an interrogation and she needn't feel bad for anyone. What mattered was finishing things so she could go deal with Saito.

Of couse, the whole 'twenty years of incarceration' thing was a little scary and would definitely impede her ability to retrieve her dog. If such a horrible thing came to pass she could only hope that somehow, Tristain would figure out a way to get her back. She just couldn't rot away in some godforsaken Japanese prison, not for 20 years! Not even for a week!

Of course, there was a chance that wouldn't happen. She was being freely invited to tell her story with the chance that doing so would lighten her punishment. She wasn't told how lightened it would be but that wasn't important. All she had to do was make them understand. With determination to leave this room freely Louise straightened her back and took a deep breath. First things first? Clear up a misconception.

"Before that, it was not 'w-wide area...bombardment'," Louise started, though she had a little trouble imitating the phrase Miyuki had used. Certainly, her spell had the capability of destroying a wide area--as wide as she had time to conceptualize--but both times she had cast a spell it was directed. Not to mention the strength was hardly something she would consider 'bombardment'. "I am Louise Françoise le Blanc de la Vallière of the Kingdom of Tristain. During a classified mission I became unconscious and when I regained consciousness I found myself in this city. Hy...Hyaku...ji...was it? As I was trying to ascertain my location I ran into Saito Hiraga and a girl."

This was the problematic part. If she simply laid out the facts bare, it wouldn't seem good. She had to create an understanding. So rather than simply say 'I got angry so I tried to blow them up', she switched to her relation to that stupid perverted dog. "Saito is my Familiar. I summoned him a year ago. He belongs to me, so it seems to be destined that I would arrive here to retrieve him." She conveniently glossed straight over why a Familiar would up and jump dimensions, leaving their master behind. "The spell I used on him was just to remind him that he shouldn't be fawning over other women. It hardly does any damage to him anyway. But then that other girl interfered and attacked me, so I had to defend myself. Then you showed up and... here we are."

That should do it.

"I see."

Miyuki listened intently as she took the opportunity to finish off her cake.

"So, rank-B Area Bombardment is normal for self defence where you come from?" she raised her eye quizatically "Regardless of what you think it is, any attacks capable of leveling a wide area is considered an area attack. Otogiri, you have the statements from the other witnesses?"

A nod from the man beside her.

"As per police reports... Eye witness one. I was eating at the cafe La Dulce Fontana, I saw a pink haired young boy was wandering town and approached the other couple with the black haired young man with the sweater and his platinum haired girlfriend. Then suddenly, someone called out to the boy, then he said something in a language I am uncertain of, and an explosion occurred. I ran off immediately after that. End of Statement."

The agent's voice ran coldly, reading them without pity or emotion, as if merely stating facts.

"Next Statement." the Shadow Captain ordered

"I was walking with my girlfriend to a restaurant when I saw a pink haired... young boy I believe? He had long hair and looked kind of girly though. Anyway, he accosted another couple, said something in French, something about being a pervert, and then explosions happened. Mizuki and I ran away when that started. End of Statement."

"Next Statement."

"Well, I'm not sure of exactly what happened. It was just explosions out of thinair for no reason. I remember someone... I dunno? Yeah, I can't tell you anything, but someone was shouting in funny languages, all angry-like, then bang bang bang! I knew better than to hang around there when someone speaks like that and explosions happen."

"Next Statement."

"Some one who looked like someone I knew in the world of Legacy decided to try blowing up Saito and myself as well as others around us, so I retaliated in self-defense. Saito stopped me apparently because he knows her. so I did. That was when you arrived. End of statement."

The stories continued for about 15 minutes. Various eye witness accounts that, while the details varied, they all generally agreed Louise attacked both Aisia and Saito to begin with. Some carried initial accounts of the fight breaking out, although everyone had run away by the time the explosions escalated.

"I would like to remind you perjury is another offense. Are you certain about your side of the story?" Miyuki asked, looking almost disinterested "I can't say I look upon too kindly of people attacking my subordinates out of the blue either."

The first eyewitness account put Louise in a very bad way. Any chance she had of attaining a state of 'poker face' was shot to hell as the tiny muscles in her face worked to create one of utter irritation. There were parts of the accounts that hurt particularly, namely most of the accounts calling her a 'boy' and referring to Aisia as 'Saito's girlfriend'. At this point her attempts to argue were entirely driven by emotion rather than logic, so when she slammed her hands angrily on the table again she could only come up with one thing to lead with.

"I OBJECT!" Louise yelled in French. "There were only two explosions, and I'm not a b-b-boy! That report, a few in... wasn't that the damn woman with Saito who attacked me!? How is that fair!? This is absurd!" Oh, no, she wasn't done yelling. Louise Françoise le Blanc de la Vallière was hardly ever done yelling. "You're damn right I'm certain about my side, Miss Miyuki. The first explosion wouldn't have harmed anyone but Saito, and as I already said he shouldn't be injured badly by it! It was only when that blonde girl jumped in that things got complicated! If she had just stayed out of it...! And his girlfriend!? Tell me, Miss Miyuki, does Saito have a..."

Suddenly the fire began to flare out. "Well... does Saito... I mean, does he... you know, have a girl...friend....here. I-It's my duty as his master to know these things!"

It would seem she wanted a little give-and-take with her ruthless interragatory tactics.

Miyuki didn't seem to visibly react to the tantrum unfolding before her, other than an expression mild annoyance as the table shook while she poured herself a cup of tea. One sugar, and milk after the fact. Stirred. A very British affectation.

"I'll be asking the questions here." she said, sounding about as excited as someone in a paint drying contest. She took a sip of her tea before continuing. "Nowhere in any of the statements do they count the number of explosions, so I'm curious how you came to that conclusion. Secondly, as you admit to having caused the explosions, you're more or less already guilty of starting the incident. It also appears from a review of the surviving footage the explosion's size was enough to catch Aisia as part of the blast due to proximity. Now, if someone caught you in the radius of one of their spells against your will, such an act would qualify as an attack, do you not agree, Miss Vallière?"

Oh, yes. It was very clear that the flame of rage had begun to flicker out as suddenly as it had flared up. Louise sat back in her chair as if retreating from Miyuki, twiddling her fingers. "Well... there was one... 'bang bang bang', they said... that's three, and... Well, if... a spell accidentally hit me, I don't... Well, it would... I..."

It appeared that Miyuki had attained her victory. Louise let out a final sigh and slumped against the top of the table, cheek against the cold surface. "So? Since you seemed to know what was going to happen before we began, what happens next, Miss Miyuki?"

This is horrible. Only here for an hour and already going to jail. This would never have happened back home! Stupid Saito, what stupid place do you live in!? There are mages everywhere and so many rules! How could you have been surprised!?

She took another long sip of her tea, emptying her cup before setting it on the table.

"Well at this point, a plea of innocence would be guilty of wasting my time." she said as she poured herself another cup "So instead, you're going to have to convince me why you shouldn't either have your ability to use magecraft stripped and leave you to stew in a cell for awhile."

She took another sip.

"The point of your statements, and why you got to hear the others, is so everyone's side is heard. If you wish to make revisions that may compel a disinterested third party to lighten your setence, now would be the time. I can't say I particularly like the fact you assaulted one of my subordinates, but as I said then, I'm an ally of those who keep their composure and an enemy to those who break down and start unnecessary battles."

Louise picked her head up from the table with another sigh, slumping back into the chair instead. "I don't have anything to change, I've told you what happened. All I can tell you is to ask Saito about the 'explosion' spell I used, he should be able to tell you it wasn't meant to actually harm anyone...much. So... all I have to say is to ask you one last time, please. Does... Saito... No."

She shook her head to clear her thoughts and look Miyuki in the eye. "That blonde girl he was with at the time, her name was 'Aisia'?" It seemed that Miyuki's comment about Aisia being within Saito's blast radius had just clicked in her mind. "Is she Saito's g...girlfriend?"

While it wouldn't change a single thing when it came to her testimony, it would change whether or not she felt bad about it, and whether or not Saito would feel the brunt of her frustration come the eventual day when she was released back into the world where he now existed.

"Whether it was meant to harm anyone or not is irrelevant, merely that you started a fight that resulted in the destruction of about 1.7 million yen worth of property in the span of about a minute, and were about to cause more when we arrived."

Yet another sip. It was clear at this point that she was more concerned over the flavour of her tea than the actual fate that would befall Louise.

"Well, out of consideration, I'll answer your question at least. I wouldn't know, I'm merely his superior officer, and we do not pry nor care about any dalliances our subordinates may have. However, I find it highly unlikely given Aisia is attached to another woman, but I may be wrong."

The cup came down as she finished.

"Anyway, if there's nothing to change, we can take you to be incarcerated in a holding cell immediately. Unless you have compelling reason why we shouldn't."

Louise choked on her breath. "O-One point 7 million...eh!?" She had no idea what currency this was or how it might convert to New Gold which she was more familiar with, but Saito's trusty blade had only cost a hundred or so of that. If this world's currency was at all like hers, that was an insane amount of money. Even if it weren't equivalent to New Gold, 1.7 million still sounded like a ridiculous amount for just a slab of mortar. Perhaps that was why they treated this so harshly? Not because of any injuries--there weren't any, save for Saito's odd collapse--but because the property here was worth so much?

Was mortar really worth that much? In a city that knew how to deal with magic, there was no one who could simply repair it magically? Even if there weren't anyone willing to do such a thing, did it really cost that much to get some plebian to mix mortar and pour it? What was with this insane place? Why didn't any of it make a lick of sense!?

Louise started to put it together in her head even as Miyuki kept talking. Come to think of it... the only interaction I've had with this world's laws has been through this woman. She knows I am not from this world. She's the only one who speaks my language, so I believed her, but... now that I think about it, that's not right! Didn't she say she's not with the police? She's not actually with the law at all! This... this woman has been deceiving me! I've been kidnapped, that's what this is! It's all a farce!

It all made so much more sense. Why she'd been stripped of her rights as an aristocrat, whisked away to some location blindfolded and slapped into a windowless room with bright lights and only allowed to interact with the same oppressive woman who had captured her. It wasn't a legal matter any more. It was about control. This wasn't an arrest, it was extortion and torture.

She began to chuckle to herself, regaining a composure of control over the situation despite very much being out of control entirely. "A compelling reason? I'm sure I couldn't give you anything like that, Miss Miyuki. You obviously just want to have me locked away somewhere for whatever reason. What's your angle, hmm? Is this about Saito? About controlling all the magic in the city? I can guarantee you that you won't be able to get anything from my family, especially not from here. So whatever it is you want to do, go right ahead and get it over with."

She stood from the chair and put both hands down on the table, leaning forward with a smile. "I just hope you realize what will happen when Saito finds out. In fact, I'm looking forward to it, Miss Miyuki."

A shrug "There's no angle. We're called in to deal with specialised situations and given authority to resolve them to ensure minimal damage, and all I care about is the resolution of this incident. I don't honestly have a clue who you or your family are, nor do I care, other than you blew up something and injured one of my subordinates."

Saying so without a trace of emotion, she seemed utterly unfazed by Louise's declaration.

"As for what I want to do, what I would rather do is be anywhere else but here, dealing with a delinquent, flat-chested, self-absorbed little princess. I'm sure you have better things to do than waste our time in this room, unless you really would rather be locked away for a long time. I'm perfectly willing to let you off lightly given an excuse, considering noone was actually severely hurt. Conversely, I'm also perfectly willing to sign the document that will prevent you from seeing light of day for awhile if that's how the incident needs to be resolved."

This could have ended differently. It could have ended with merely an apology for damaging property and a promise not to do it again. She could have just said something nice and remorseful and Miyuki would likely have let her out of the room and back out into the world to do whatever it was she came here to do.

There was just one problem. Louise was no longer in a state of mind to be making apologies. Miyuki Takamachi had just touched on a nerve that ran much too deep to ignore, one that stung straight through her spine and instantly bumped her anger level up to near maximum. Had Louise been left with her wand, it would have resulted in the swift destruction of this godforsaken room and everyone in it. Without it she could only clench her fists and smile ferally.

"F...Flat-chested...is it? Oh... okay... I see. Flat-chested. I see where your priorities are, miss cake-and-tea-over-human-beings!" Her arm flicked out to slap the teacup aside, hopefully to shatter it against a wall. "If you want an apology or something you can forget it, not after this! Either you hurry up and let me out of here or you pray that you make sure I never see your disgusting face again. Else so help me, Miss Miyuki, you will need all the armed guards your entitled, paranoid ass can afford. Though it looks to me like you need them just to go to the bathroom! Can't do anything by yourself?"

Sure, she had absolutely no idea who she was messing with. She also had no means with which to carry out any threats. Still, if there was one thing Louise had in abundance it was overconfidence in the form of future events. Once she had a wand, she was fairly sure that she could make this entire damned city vanish from the map with Miyuki Takamachi included.

She just didn't quite understand how impossible of an opponent she had chosen.

"You're hardly in a position to be making threats." was the simple, disinterested reply as she caught the teacup "I was wondering exactly how far your self-control went, but I suppose it would be dangerous to let you out with such a simple trigger, no?"

She began to pour herself another cup of tea, seemingly unconcerned with the angry tsundere before her.

"Well, if you'd shown a modicum of self-control, we might have let it go and covered it up conveniently, but you're quite clearly the sort who's provoked easily aren't you? Well, the question still stands."
