Now, let's play together...under the clearest of blue skies.
Erin walked calmly through the forest, duel disk still attached. She had just bested Nickle and gotten her second locator card. Since the Elemancery Castle bordered the forest, going in a random direction from there had taken her here. Her deck worked fine, but...she really wished the monsters could be prettier. All of the cards with the effects she needed for her idea were ugly worms and bugs. It was a bit disheartening...but at least this way, she didn't have to order any attacks. Having to see monsters kill each other would probably be worse than some ugly ducklings.

"Two more..." She said hesitantly, wondering what laid in store for her.

So tell me. There's nothing wrong with... making monsters kill each other, right?

...I dunno?

I mean... they're just part of the game anyway. It doesn't matter just how many times you do it, they're still just a bunch of data materialized in the form of holographic monsters, right?

Don't know, don't care.

You're seriously not helping much.

"Alright, that's it. Just who the heck are you talking to all this time?"

None of your business.

There goes his peculiar habit of talking to a disembodied voice again. But whatever, not that he's not used to it. It just gets a bit irritating at times. But putting that aside, first of all, why not explain why he's here in the middle of the forest in the first place? And on top of a tree, no less.

Is that a problem?

Well... no, but for what reason?

Seth just liked it here. It's nice and quiet, serene, and all that. He slipped his hand inside his pocket, taking out the two Locator Cards that he have at the moment, one as a freebie from the Kinjo Corporation in conjunction with the Hyakuji's Battle City Tournament. It's all fun and games, and he's determined to get to the semi-finals, at the very least!

Gott, this is so exciting--CRACK--"WOAH!"

Nice timing, the branch snapped off from his weight and he came falling down and hits the ground like a durian. "...If you've got something to say, say it now," He said from the ground, noticing that he had managed to crash down right in front of a... girl. What's her name again? He was quite sure he'd seen her at school a couple of times...

Oh, a Duel Disk. So she participates in the Battle City Tournament too huh.

"Oh my! Are you alright?" Erin exclaimed, surprised that a boy had fallen down in front of her. He didn't look injured at first, but she instinctively reached out to help him up, forgetting about her duel disk and accidentally jabbing him with it. "Whoops! Sorry...This thing is so cumbersome..." She complained, reaching out with her other hand.

"Were you climbing trees...?" She asked a bit faintly, as though she disapproved of something so needlessly dangerous. "You should probably be more careful when you're wearing expensive equipment..." Well, she probably shouldn't say that when she accidentally poked him with her own duel disk, but still. "You're okay, right? Does it hurt anywhere?"

"What about the spot where you stabbed me with that thing?" He said, rising to his feet and rubbing his torso, that took a particularly painful stab from the girl's Duel Disk. "Yea, whatever, no worries," Well. What are the chances that you'd be able to find another duelist in the middle of the forest like this? Despite their awesomeness there's actually not much people who cared to play this game. "So uh... you're walking around looking for people to duel against too?"

"Oh, um...I guess so." She answered sheepishly. She had been so concerned about his injuries that she had forgotten all about the tournament. "I...guess we should duel then...?" Even though this was actually her second duel, she was still a bit shy about the whole thing. "Um...you're sure you're okay enough to duel? I mean, I know you said it was fine, but..." Fidgeting a little bit, she decided, "Um, is it okay if I only bet one card...?"

"Eeeeh?" Well, what's the fun in that...? He thought, as he slipped out from his pocket two Locator Cards, looking slightly dejected at her miniscule offer. "From what you said I can deduce you have more than one, so I was thinking you might wanna bet two at least..." Well, he only needed two more to be able to get to the finals, so wouldn't it be better to swipe everything he can in one go? Besides, it's called CHALLENGE!

She probably wouldn't like that sigh of disappointment from him, but he accepted the deal anyway. Ah well, better than nothing he supposed. "Right... Jan-Ken-Po?" He said, placing a hand behind his back.

"Um...sorry..." The girl apologized for the disappointment. But she wasn't really a risk-taker, and on top of that, she didn't really like eliminating people. She was here to have fun, but she cared about other people too. If she took away all of someone's locator cards, she was crushing their dreams.

She honestly wasn't even expecting to make it to the semifinals, but at this rate, it might actually happen. The thought that someone else could have been there instead of her made her feel guilty, as though she was taking someone else's place, even if she deserved it.

Sheepishly holding out her hand, Erin let Seth take the lead in timing, throwing out paper.

Aaand... he's holding a clenched fist, signifying a rock.

WHY MUST HE ALWAYS LOSE IN JANKENPO?!

Of course, that might alarm her a little bit because he was actually visibly frustrated. Giving a sigh of disappointment the boy said, "Okay... let's get this over with," He stepped back, turning around to face her when he's satisfied with the distance, and at the same time the whole forest disappeared. To be replaces by some weird holographic empty space of nothingness.

Dammit, the technology of this small thing is awesome.

Even though this was her second duel, Erin was still amazed by the duel disk. She had always played with just paper cards, and she was honestly afraid of the holograms. Seeing a big guy with an ax charging at her was a lot different than looking at a piece of paper with a picture of a big guy with an ax. She took a few deep breaths, preparing herself for the duel. She wanted to tell herself that it wouldn't last long, but she knew that was a lie with the deck the was running.

"I guess I go first..." She said, drawing her opening hand.

"I'll...lay a facedown..."

A face-down card appeared in front of her, in her holographic back row, signifying a spell or trap card.

"And...another facedown..."

A second card appeared to it's right, or to Seth's left, since he was facing a different way.

"...And...another...facedown..."

A third magic card appeared.

"And..umm..." She looked around her hand timidly, "Uh...another...facedown."

She now had four magic cards face-down on the field. She took a moment to survey everything, hoping that she hadn't done anything wrong.

"Oh, I should have a monster down..." She said, thinking out loud as she picked a card. "I'll, um...play this monster...uh, face down."

"And, uh...that's...it, I think." She was always afraid that at any moment, she would suddenly realize that she had made a mistake somewhere, so ending her turn wasn't something she did lightly. She spent a lot of time peeking at the cards she had laid just to remind herself what they were. But she didn't think she had messed up yet...now to see what kind of deck she was up against.

Geh... already a strong defense on her first turn...? He's already hesitant on playing his hands, in fear that he would be taken down the moment he moves. But at the very least she seemed to focus on the defensive for the moment so he could take his time with preparing. Taking a card from his hand he placed it on his Duel Disk, materializing a worn man in full knightly armor on the field. "Now, according to Marauding Captain's effect, I can special summon another level 4 monster from my hand if he's summoned, so..." He picked another card from his hand and placed it on the Duel Disk, and a female warrior, Rose the Warrior of Revenge appeared next to the knight.

He decided to keep his momentum going by using "Reinforcement of the Army!". All at once his entire deck appeared in hologram right in front of him, allowing him to see his entire deck to take out his desired card. Of course, she can't see them. "Using this spell card I'll bring my Chaos-End Master!" He said confidently, picking the aforementioned card from the whole deck and joined it with the rest of his hand.

He then took yet another card from his hand, placing it on the field, revealing it to be a spell card named "United We Stand on Rose! This card gives the equipped monster 800 attack and defense for every face-up monsters on my field," There. That's that, he's confident with his set-up. All you need for a strong defense is a strong attack. Or that's how he believed it. "And for now... Captain, take out that face down!"

Oh gosh. He's summoning lots of things. Erin looked worried, Should I use Torrential...? I think I should torrential...but...I don't want to end up wasting it...

Unfortunately, she spent too much time being indecisive. Seth had already gone ahead with his turn and entered the battle phase.

"Um..." the attack went through, destroying Erin's face-down monster - a somewhat hideous looking pumpkin thing with three eyes. To be honest, Erin didn't really like most of her cards. They were just so ugly...but the play style she wanted to use demanded them.

"It was Sangan, so..." Erin leafed through her deck, taking a long time to choose. "I'll draw...The Fool." She showed Seth the card. She wasn't running an Arcana Force deck, but The Fool was still one of her most important cards.

It looked like Seth was going to attack with his other monster. Darn it. I should have used Torrential Tribute when he summoned... It looked like she'd have to sacrifice a bit to avoid danger. But she only had to make it through this turn to set up a wall. "I'll activate Scapegoat...and then after Scapegoat, Torrential Tribute, destroying the four tokens and your monsters." Erin declared, "Oh, uh, I'll also chain Assault on GHQ on one of the tokens, since it's destroyed anyway...so you have to send the top two cards from your deck to the graveyard also."

Looking at the only card left in her back row, she decided "Oh and uh, I'll also activate Mystical Space Typhoon, destroying your face down spell that you set this turn."

...And suddenly, the field was empty. No monsters, no spells, and no traps on either player's side of the field. But Erin wasn't worried - Seth's turn was about to end, and Sangan had given her the card she needed. As long as nothing terrible went wrong...

...

...

...

Where did all his cards go...?

It was... it was all here a moment ago...? But... it's barely been a round.

...That's one horrible way to start the game...

..."I... I pass..." He said weakly, still quite unsure what exactly had just happened, or how it all managed to happen. But... it's only been a turn, he still has a chance to turn the table around, right? Well... see, he's already in trouble. His deck is designed to deal quick and attacks that could potentially end an enemy in one turn, but there's no use if he can't even attack in the first place.

Erin breathed a sigh of relief as he saw Seth mill Heavy Storm due to Assault on GHQ. That card was one of the most dangerous to her deck. With that out of the way, she drew her card with a little more confidence.

"Alright..." She said, selecting the card than Sangan had given her. "I'll set this..." The only card on the field was now a single face-down monster. "...And end."

Alright... alright, he can still turn the table around... it was a bad start but that doesn't mean he would lose completely, right? Yes... He took a card from his hand and set it on his spell/trap card zone. Then taking another card he placed it on his monster field. At the same time a knight with angelic wings appeared on the field in a flash of bright light. Alright... he can take this slow. His opponent just took out her own entire field, so she shouldn't be able to defend against this one. "Chaos-End, take out that face down!" He commanded the angelic knight, in which the knight complied without complaint, rushing towards the face-down card on the field to crush it-!

Erin's expression remained neutral as her face-down card was flipped up. Arcana Force 0 - The Fool. It had 0 ATK and 0 DEF, but it had one very important ability.

"The Fool can't be destroyed by battle, so..." Erin informed Seth hesitantly, "Well, it's other ability doesn't activate since it wasn't summoned."

On its own, a monster wasn't enough defense. It could still be destroyed by any number of things. Dark Hole and Torrential Tribute were two staples that were probably still waiting in Seth's deck, and who knows what other cards he had. But hopefully, this wall would hold out until she could get support from the spells and traps in her deck. Right now, The Fool was the only card on her side of the field.
