The two broken halves of the desk lay silently at his feet. The cloudless sky hindered little to no sunlight from reaching the rooftop of the school. Yet Seth was safe from the sun's glare, having hidden himself quite well behind the large air conditioning unit, under the shade it provided and away from the brightness, away from anything or anyone in general. Surely there's no one who could find him here. Not to mention class should be going normally now that he's not there. So there's no chance of anyone finding him up here unless they were to come up here themselves. He didn't want anyone to be here anyway. He just... wanted to be alone at the moment.

It was a bit puzzling as to why he had chosen to let his fury get the better of him back then. But then again, what's so puzzling about that? He didn't want Youma to go because he was worried about her. It really angered him to know that she had went off to put her life in danger without his consultation. Wait, without his consultation? What is he, her father or something? She doesn't need his 'A-Okay' to do whatever she wanted. Even if you try to use the Master-Servant contract as an excuse, that was merely as a way so that the two would be able to find a way to...

...er...

...Why did they make that contract again?

...Well, whatever. He's got no reason to hold her down with his decision or rules. So... why the hell was he so mad at her for running away like that in the first place?

Gott dammit, this is so confusing...

No matter how hard he tried, Seth could never hide from Gail. Even if he were behind walls of solid lead, the light of his soul would shine through like a two-colored lighthouse. That was probably why, right now, she was the only person who could help him.

Gail slowly opened the door to the rooftop, not bothering to shield her eyes from the bright sunlight. She walked slowly around the air conditioning unit, directly to where Seth was sitting. As she thought, it was like the time when she met Seth in the park. He didn't seem at all like his usual self. But at that time, talking to her had seemed to help him...

"Hello, Seth."

She said it in the exact way that she always did, quiet and listless. Even though she understood the emotion of 'worrying' internally, she would have had to make a conscious effort to display it in her demeanor. Even so, however, she was still here, talking to him when no one else was. Hopefully, that would be enough.

Yea, he hadn't really expected anyone to come here. He had made sure of that. So when he heard his name being called out like that he jumped slightly in surprise, turning around to find the familiar figure of Gail standing there right next to him, looking as boring and as plain as ever. And it has always been that bland and boring face that he would never complain about seeing no matter what kind of situation he's in.

"Oh... hi," He said simply, turning back around, neither denying nor accepting her presence. Well. Okay, so maybe he was a bit... glad she's here. Her calmness is somewhat contagious, and he seriously needed that infectious composure of hers. And to be honest he sorta liked being around her, or whenever she's with him. Her presence was... irreplaceable. "Well, what are you doing on the roof?" He said as he kept looking forward, pretending not to know why she's there in the first place. Well, she has the habit of following him around a lot so... no reason? "Class is starting soon, you don't want to spoil that good student image you have,"

Ow, a bit too harsh there, don't you think?

"As long as I am not expelled, it is not a problem." She replied. In a way, she was fortunate that Tsukasa was absent today - she wouldn't have to worry about arousing his suspicion. Though, that's not to say she wouldn't have gone to Seth regardless of the situation.

Gail calmly sat down next to Seth, making herself comfortable. Being able to relax was something new to her. Before she met Seth, she would have objected to sitting down at all. She had spent more than 10 years of her life being ready to be attacked at any moment. But now, here she was, relaxing and letting her guard down. If she had the chance to talk to herself from a year ago, there's no doubt she would have been scolded for it.

"You were talking about someone who went to the past." Gail said, rather directly. While she wanted to help Seth, she didn't really know what to do other than try talking. She was getting better at talking, and she noticed that talking to her sometimes made Seth feel better. "Who were you talking about?"

Maybe he shouldn't have let her guard down in front of her. And maybe he should've expected that rather forward inquiry, rather taken aback from it. Perhaps it was because he didn't want to think about it, wanted to clear his head, that he was a bit irritated at her bringing the subject up. But... you can't really blame her, that's just how Gail is.

Or maybe he do wanted to talk about it. Just... there's no one to talk to about it. It's a bit silly, really, half of him didn't want to discuss about Youma, but the other half is dying to let it out. Dammit, he really needs to start working on his indecisiveness... "Just a friend. And a freeloader," He said after a few moments of silence, deciding that he should at least satisfy her curiosity. She's not the one in the wrong, after all. "Youma, You've met her,"

"Ah. I do remember her." Gail said recalling the small girl she had seen with Seth on a few occasions. They seemed to be living with each other, though she was unsure exactly what their relationship was. It was possible that they were siblings, she supposed, but there was also another possibility. whenever she was uncertain, her solution was usually to ask Seth directly - since this matter concerned him, she was sure that he would know the answer.

"Is she your girlfriend, Seth?"

As if to answer her question, he raised his hands and subsequently placed it on her head. It was fairly gentle at first, albeit a bit strange for him to do so out of the blue, before he suddenly clenched HARD on her head. "Look at me in the eyes," He said, glaring at her with so much intensity, very intent on making his point as clear as possible. "She was not, is not, and never will be my girlfriend even if the whole world were to be turned upside down or hell freezes over. Chisel that in your mind and remember that for the rest of your life, never contradict it, never question it. It's the law of the universe itself and it's the very reason you and I and the rest of the world exists in the first place,"

Hyep, he's VERY intent on letting her know that. Although... "...Or... I dunno..." He said, relinquishing his grasp and turning his attention back to the clump of clouds up above the sky. "What makes you say that?"

Gail didn't react at all as Seth grabbed her head, even though it was somewhat painful. She was used to being handled roughly. "I understand. I will remember it." She said it flatly, as though Seth had simply told her in a normal fashion. It was like she barely even noticed anything except for the words themselves.

"I was curious." Gail answered his second statement. "You explained to me what a 'girlfriend' was previously, but I do not have any examples to compare to." She did want to find out more about that kind of relationship. Having it explained wasn't enough. She had noticed that Youma and Seth seemed to share a relationship that seemed slightly different from normal friendship, but that difference was more of an antagonistic bent - they were clearly 'friends', but they did not seem altogether 'friendly' when they were by each other. But that would have been what she was familiar with, in terms of 'love'.

There she goes again, Gail showing her clueless side. Should've been expected though. You can't really explain how those kind of stuff work without experiencing it yourself. And you definitely can't understand it unless you have a first-hand experience of it. "I don't know why you would consider her to be my girlfriend though," Seriously, does Seth and Youma actually LOOKED like they were a couple?

...But then again, we're talking about Gail here.

"Alright, drop the girlfriend matter for a moment, let's talk about the core of it first," Maybe he just wanted to talk about something else, stay away from talking about Youma. Time for another lesson. "I said something about love before, haven't I?" He said, reminiscing his past encounter with Gail at the park as he started explaining about a subject he himself wasn't too sure of. "There are many different kinds of love. Love for your father, love for your friends, love for your girlfriend(s), they're all classified as love. Just... they're all different types of love. When you love someone, you're willing to sacrifice yourself for him or her, you want to see his or her smiling face, you want to see her happy, you don't want anything bad to happen to her, you worry about her whenever she gets into trouble..."

His words trailed to non-existence, reflecting on his own lesson and whatever happened in class just now. He had always called Youma to be nothing more than just a friend and a freeloader, saying so with irritation and she would return the 'compliment' with a couple of jabs on her own. They didn't like each other, always bashing and always lashing out whenever there's a chance... sometimes he wished he had never met her in the first place. But then...

...

"...You can use her as an example," He said. There's... no harm in saying it... right? It's just Gail after all. She wouldn't take it the wrong way, or blurt it out to anyone who might use it to... I dunno, tease him or something. "I'm worried about her... she goes to the past without telling me and... she can't even use the stove..." He raised his arm and rested it on his face, covering his eyes. "She could get hurt... she could get lost... if anything happens to her then..."

Luckily he had his eyes covered. He didn't want anyone to see that his eyes were watering, not even Gail.

"I'm... I'm terrible... aren't I... I told her... I'd help her, keep her safe... I can't even keep a promise..."

Gail didn't really know how to respond. She didn't really understand what was going on, or how to comfort Seth. It seemed like he was trying to tell her that he loved Youma, but in a different way than being a 'girlfriend.' "Seth, your eyes are leaking." she told him, as though she were pointing out a cut or a bruise. He was trying to hide it, but even she could tell. She only vaguely remembered what crying was. There had been heavy penalties for crying when she was little, and it was a habit she dropped quickly. It had been so long that she had forgotten what it was called.

"...I had someone I think I loved, once." Gail said, more slowly than usual. It was something she was supposed to keep a secret, but she had a question that she needed to have answered. "My mother was killed just after I was born. It was my father who raised me." She began, "I found out later that he was the one who had killed her. So I never had a chance to love her."

"I had been helping my father for my life up until then." She said, "But after I found out that he killed my mother, I decided to stop helping him. And because I didn't help him when he was in trouble, he died." She said it coolly, as though she were reading out of an encyclopedia. With his last words, he had called her an ungrateful child. "But I didn't cry at all." She finished, finally recalling the word that she had forgotten. "Does that mean that I didn't really love him after all?"

...Oh. He forgot, there are people out there who are much less fortunate than himself. But... this is probably the first time he'd heard her talk about herself, her past, how she became like this in the first place. Well, maybe she didn't directly say it, but that should probably explain it. "I... I see..." He said, wiping his eyes as he regained his composure. "Sorry to hear that..." Next she's gonna ask what's he being sorry for. Why did she start talking about her parents anyway? Simply out of curiosity? Needed confirmation? Or she just felt like that's the right thing to talk about at the moment?

Quite possibly the third one. "I don't know. I'm sorry, I really don't know," It was a pathetic answer, even in his own head when she's probably expecting something from the all-knowing Seth. "But... see, just because someone doesn't cry, doesn't mean he doesn't love, or is not sad," It's alright to say all this in front of Gail. She won't laugh, she won't get disgusted. She'll simply accept it like it's just something she just read from a textbook. "Sometimes... you don't want people to know what you really feel. It might hurt them or make them sad too. Or for whatever other reason you have..." You know, this is probably a bit too complex for Gail to understand in just a few sentences. It's impossible to define feelings and emotion even if you have a gigantic encyclopedia written just to explain the feeling of happiness. It's not something that can be understood just by explaining, you need to feel it to understand it.

"It's... it's alright, don't think about it too much," He finalized, once again rubbing his eyes on his sleeve. "You'll get it, in time," What, let her feel the sense of worry and distress he's feeling right now just to educate her about the world of emotions and feelings? That sounded wrong in itself, but... what else could he say?

Gail looked calmly at Seth as he dried his eyes. The question that had been on her mind remained unanswered. Although she didn't show it, she was understandably disappointed. But if Seth promised that she would come to know, then she would trust him. She wasn't sure if she had helped Seth by talking to him, but at the very least, he didn't seem worse. She stood up slowly, saying, "The bell will ring in 43 seconds." She had been keeping the time in her head during their conversation, having promised the homeroom teacher that she would be on-time to first period.

With a surprising gentleness, Gail reached town and took Seth's hand, meaning to help him up from his seat. But even after he had stood up, she didn't let go. "If we hurry, we can make it back together."

He just wanted to stay here, until school's over. Or until night. Until forever, that had been what he had been thinking. He had no idea where he was supposed to go, or what he was supposed to do. That was exactly what he had been intending to do, had Gail not interfered with everything by being here with him. The soft and gentle pull of her hand went unimpeded and he rose from the ground without any resistance. "Yea... best not get in any more trouble than I already am," He said, giving a small weak laugh.

He's really not sure what was it about her that made him feel so... calm and relaxed. There's someone there, who's willing to stay there with him, pull him out from the depth of darkness and lead him back to the starting point if he ever got lost. He never asked for her, she just sort of... did it. Spontaneously, purposely, accidentally, who knows. One thing's for sure though. "Um, Gail..." He said softly, his hand still in hers as they briskly made their way back to the classroom. "...thanks,"

Not sure what else could he say.
