Beep...

Beep...

The number you have called-

Clack.

"Man, that's the eighth time already..."
He groaned in disappointment as he snapped his phone shut and tossing it in the air, before catching it and stuffing it back into his pocket. "C'mon, what's the big idea, she told me to come here in the first place!"

Maybe you got ditched.

"That's ridiculous, you can't 'ditch' someone on a job,"
...But wait, come to think of it Freda was the one who asked him to come here to help her on something she called 'work'... She said it had something to do with fetching some stuff for the police department... Depending on how you define work, she had either left the whole job to him, or ditched the entire thing without telling him. So all this time he had been waiting for someone who surely wouldn't show up at all no matter how long he decided to stay.

"Really! What's up with that, it's even winter dammit! Cold!" He tossed his arms up in frustration before slumping into a nearby bench, feeling the accumulated snow on the seat cooling his backside to uncomfortable level, causing him to jump back up in discomfort. Bah, he wanted to sit, he'd been standing there for an hour already...

Well, at the very least there's a cafe nearby where he could get some hot choco--crud. It's closed.

There's evil in your heart .. and it wants out to play.
Hana trudged through the suburban districts of Hyakuji with an annoyed look on her face. She had been on the prowl for some cuties downtown (as usual) and had somehow wandered off into unfamiliar surroundings.. She didn't want to admit it but .. She was lost.
"Geez, having to stay at a dorm is troublesome! Usually I would just find a hotel and would be all nice and warm by now," she said to herself, lowering her face into her scarf and having to mumble the last few words.

It seemed like there were less and less people as she continued to walk. All the stores were starting to close as well.. Hana shivered as a chilly breeze blew past her. Ahhh.. This was so annoying!! Spotting a bench nearby, she hurried over to rest her sore feet. However, the coldness of the seat soon became too hard to bear. Just as Seth had done, she jumped back into an upright position hastily.

Being lost, tired and cold sure did suck.

.
.
.

Ara? There was someone standing close by to her. Hana turned her head and gave him a look. Ehhh.. He didn't look so bad. Hana was tired of searching for a boytoy anyhow~ She wouldn't mind playing around with him, for now anyway.

"I-It's cold isn't it?" she said in her cute voice, looking up at him very bashfully.

Hah. How funny was that. It was as though the two were in harmony or something. She came to the bench and sat the very moment he sat, and jumped up the very moment he got off the bench. Had the two looked the same it would be as though there were a mirror in between them, and they would think that they were looking at their own reflection. But nay, she was glancing at a boy, and he was looking at a girl.

"Eh... tell me something I don't know," He replied in a somewhat weak voice, turning his gaze away from the girl with the scarf to stare at his shoes, folding his arm to conserve heat. Apparently he didn't seem to want to bother paying her much attention. He's got other stuff nagging the back of his head, really. Perhaps he was unable to help himself, because after a few moments of silence he slid his hand back into his pocket and took out his phone. Flipping it open he once again dialed the same number he had been trying to reach for the last hour. Resting the phone up to his ears, he waited...

Beep.

Beep.

Beep.

The number you have-

"Awh, what the heck am I doing, I wanna go home!" He yelled suddenly, once again tossing his arms into the air and once again slumping down to the bench in depression. Once again, he jumped up, being unable to bear the coldness of the bench itself. Goodness, why can't he just go home already? There was no chance she would come, especially after an HOUR.

Oh but... maybe she'd come in a few more minutes...?

Dammit, Seth is just too nice for his own good.

Hmm. It would seem like Hana would have to try a little harder. Parting her lips to say something else, before she noticed him take out his phone and dial a number. She observed him silently. It was silent enough for her to hear the opposite end of his call, only there wasn't anyone on the other side of the call. Who was he calling, she wondered? Perhaps he was waiting for someone.. Maybe a girlfriend?

Hana stepped back as he shouted, surprised at the sudden outburst. Though this was perfect.. If it was his girlfriend, he was clearly fed up by now. It was the most opportune moment to make her move on him with a higher chance of success! Then again, this was all pure speculation that he had a girlfriend. Even so, who could resist Hana's charm~?

The raven-haired girl siddled up beside him, closing the space between them. "Ne, how about we ditch whoever you're waiting for and go back to yours like you want to?" she uttered in a flirty tone, holding onto his arm and pressing it up close to her bosom. If that wasn't enough, she reached up to whisper in his ear seductively, "Or if you want, we can keep each other warm out here.. After all, no-one's around, hehe~"

Normally he would have been completely flustered at this point, being completely incapable of uttering so much as a single word out of nervousness and fear and anticipation. But due to the suddenness of everything the effect she intended to see was somewhat... diluted. I mean, where do you find a girl whom would so willingly give herself away to a random dude she only just met out of nowhere? "Aa... well, see... no can do... I, uh... it's a promise see..." He said with a slight tint of red on his cheek, picking his words carefully as he edged away from her ever so slightly, trying to free himself from her grasp while not being too forceful with it. Just casually pull away, as though nothing happened.

He said he wanted to go home, but at the same time he still wanted to keep with his promise. It's probably both, and he couldn't make up his mind. Though it seemed like at the moment he was leaning towards staying there and wait for his acquaintance to arrive. Absent-mindedly he fiddled with his phone, pressing the redial button for the tenth time and placing the phone onto his head. "...Still nothing..." He gave a sigh, snapping the phone shut and sliding it in his pocket. Maybe she's really not coming after all? Could have at least told him first... "And what's up with you?" He said suddenly to the girl with a stern voice, his brows furrowing in a frown. "That is not how a girl should behave around boys, it's indecent you know," As though he was nagging at his daughter or something.

Was this guy stubborn or what? She watched carefully as he pulled out his phone again and redialed. Who exactly was he waiting for? And why would he go to such lengths just to keep a promise? This guy was weird.. but it was sort of endearing. Hana widened his eyes as he berated her lewd behavior. What was this guy? Her father? Nonetheless, Hana just saw it as a challenge, to which of course, she accepted.

Still it was weird. Any other normal guy would have taken the bait, probably be even more so keen than she was. She laughed and moved away from him. Very well, if she had to take a different route than usual, Hana didn't mind! She would be stuck in this city for awhile anyhow, and this puzzle of sorts would keep her entertained and occupied. More the latter than the former but who cares? If things didn't work out like she wanted to, she could always find another guy.

"Sorry then~" she chirped in her cute voice, sticking her tongue out. Her head lowered and she held onto her other arm. In body language, this position would appear as insecure? "I just feel so lonely sometimes.." she said quietly, remaining in this sombre state for a few more seconds. There was more truth in her words than she realised, but she was too lost in her performance to notice. She perked up and put on a smile, "It's to be expected, right? Since I'm new here.. I'm Nakamura Hana. Nice to meet you!" She bowed formally.

Hrm... Even if she's new here doesn't exactly mean she could just go and randomly flirt about with random dudes. He stayed silent as she introduced herself, keeping his eyes on her for just a moment before turning around and slumping on the seat. Oh forget the cold. Three time's the charm after all. "I'm just saying though, making yourself look like that is gonna get you in a lot of trouble later on," He could tell how she was actually used to doing these sort of thing simply by how casually she did it first. And seemingly enjoying herself too, at that.

Bleh.

"Seth Ryouga, lonely dude who apparently got ditched by his girlfriend. And only realized this after one hour of waiting," He said in a morose tone, leaning back on the seat and staring at the grayish white sky. Not that he really was waiting for his girlfriend, but he couldn't help but be a bit snarky for the moment. Freda was more of a co-worker or some sort from the police department, thanks to his connection with them via the WDA. "So what do you want me to do, entertain you or something?" Man, with that kind of attitude it's no wonder he's terrible around girls.

Hana watched in surprise as Seth sat down on the frozen seat without getting back up again. He must really want to sit down.. "Eh? Make myself look like what? Aren't I wearing normal clothes?" replied the kunoichi innocently, reacting as if her past actions had not happened at all. So he didn't like what she did.. Maybe it would be better for her to befriend him first?

"Girlfriend.. huh?" she repeated, not at all taken aback by his relationship status. Sure, it would make things a lot harder but the sense of accomplishment would just be that much sweeter, right? "Doesn't sound like she's very fond of you.. if she's made you wait an hour. Or maybe.. It's one-sided love and she's only going out with you because she pities you?!" Hana sat down beside him and looked over at him with a cheeky smile. ".. Juuust kiddin'!"

She stretched out her arms and looked up at the sky as she listened to Seth speak to her. "Ah. You're so mean!" she cried out before she jumped up from her seat. "Geez! How can you stand the coldness?? .. Hmm, hold on a sec." She had spotted a vending machine in the distance and she still had some money on her..

When she returned, she was holding two cans of hot chocolate. "Here you go!" she said with a smile, tossing one of them at him. The heat of the can soothed her numb fingers. "So, can I ask you a favour?" It felt weird to be acting so .. nice. It kind of hurt to smile so much and talk so gently. What was it her business to act so cheerful? Hana brushed that thought away with the excuse of conquest. Yes.. this was all for conquest.

"That would be very sad indeed," He said simply, once again taking out his phone and redialing the same number yet again. Damn he's stubborn. I don't think there's any need to repeat the same thing again. He didn't respond to her whining, unblinkingly staring at the screen of the phone as the network disconnected itself yet again. It was only when she darted off did he tore his gaze away from the phone.

Catching the can with his free hand, he raised an eyebrow at her for a moment before noticing the label of hot chocolate in his hand. She wouldn't notice it but his eyes sparkled brilliantly at the sight of his favorite drink. "Anything you ask," Wow, what a turn-around. His fingers plucked lightly at the lid opener, the warmth of the drink itself was pleasant on his freezing fingers.

Finally! He was starting to respond to her properly. The way to a man's heart is his stomach, huh? She kept this in mind as she thought about how to answer. Anything he said..? No, no. She couldn't risk chasing him away again. Maybe it was time to fix the reason she was even there in the first place. "You see, I'm lost," she began, fidgeting with the can in her hands. Somehow, she had gotten nervous.

"And since it doesn't seem like your girlfriend is coming, ano.." Hana placed a hand on her cheek, her warm palm melting away the coolness of her face. "I was wondering if you could show me the way to Fudo dorms?" If he refused, she could always just stay with him and follow him home or bug him until he was forced to show her home. Either way was fine with her, but bugging him would really harm her chances with him..

Not that she couldn't find someone else anyway! She took a big gulp of her hot chocolate, the warm liquid feeling so good from ingestion. If only she had a bonfire and a packet of marshmallows.. Now that would be the best! The raven-haired girl looked dreamy-eyed as she dreamed of it, almost drooling from how it would taste.

As much as he wanted to correct her and say that Freda is not his girlfriend, he couldn't be bothered to do so. Partly because he's more focused on her saying that she's lost, and partly because he was chugging down the hot chocolate in one go.

"You remind me of someone. She has a knack of getting lost all the time. Can't believe I'd be able to find another one without a sense of direction," He said without consideration, giving a satisfied sigh after finishing the entire can in less than three seconds. So anyway, a promise is a promise. Not like she had any hidden intention or anything, right? "I guess..." He flattened the can in his hand, tossing it into a nearby trashcan. He took another glance down the phone in his other hand, frowning at the lack of call being received. "Mattaku, calling me all the way here... then never showing up herself..." He shook his head and stuffed the phone back into his pocket. "Right, I'll show you the way to the school," He said, getting up and rubbing his freezing backside.

A smile spread across her face as the boy before her agreed to lead her home. Yay! So she didn't have to suffer and die in the cold because she couldn't find her way home! Hana followed his suit and threw her empty can into the trash, feeling better from being relieved of the cold temporarily. As they started walking, she started thinking. Even though things didn't go as planned, this was still okay. But still, she missed playing around.. It would okay if she just held onto his arm right? I mean, it was cold and it would make them warmer!

She shook her head briefly and slapped her cheeks. No, no! She couldn't risk freaking him out. Deciding to distract herself, she looked up at him and asked, "So, who do I remind you of?" Hana slipped her cold hands into her pockets, staring at her feet as they created imprints in the light snow with every step. Acting like this.. wasn't so bad. It was sort of fun. But Hana couldn't admit that, not to anyone, not even to herself.

"Say, were you going to go on a date with your girlfriend today or something?"

"Just a friend. And a freeloader," He said in response to her inquiry as he started to lead her back to the school. Ha well, she wasn't gonna come anyway, so... Besides, it's kinda nice to have someone else to talk to rather than to listen to the constant whining and nagging of Youma. Hah, but even then he'd come back to that place to wait some more. He's not just some random dude who'd leave a promise unfulfilled, despite how impossible and unfruitful it was. And really, this girlfriend nonsense had better stop. "Maybe I should tell you, she's not my-"

Interrupted by something, he stopped in his track, staring ahead of the road with a surprised look. Wait, if he's not mistaken isn't that Freda? He squinted slightly, before finally confirming the waist-long fiery red hair, her usual green coat and red tie over a white t-shirt she would always wear, like it's her trademark or something. Oh, so NOW she decides to show up. He couldn't help but feel a bit aggravated at this. Look at that, she's not even in a hurry. And why the heck is there a bearded dude in an apron following her? ...Wait a second, isn't he the bartender at Underground 10? He never went there much aside from that place never being his favorite, but most of the time it was memorable enough for him to be able to recognize a few faces. The stingy bartender was one of them.

"Where the heck have you been?" He said as the two approached them, acknowledging but not bothering to ask about the existence of the bartender at the moment. Now, tell me if he's imagining it, but Freda looked somewhat... distressed. Especially when she's actually avoiding Seth's eyes, looking away and keeping her eyes glued to the red postbox next to the street.

"Glad to find you here boy," The bartender said in a gruff voice, his stature easily towered the other three. Wait, what's up with this? Apparently the bartender had... actually expected to see Seth? What's going on here? Question marks started to fly around his head as he looked back at Freda, who seemed to be shrinking, trying to make herself as small and as unnoticeable as possible. "Today's your lucky day boy, adding her tab to yours..." The bartender continued, slipping his hand into his apron and procuring a slip of paper, handing it over to Seth. Feeling a bit ominous, he took the slip of paper and looked at it.

It turned out to be a bill.

With... a helluva crapload of numbers on it.

"O-oi, what is this...?" Seth started to stammer, looking nervously between the terrified-looking red haired woman and the bartender, the thought of getting Hana back to school completely wiped out of his brain. "I know I've wrecked that place a few times..." He said, referring to the few occasions when he had been at Underground 10 and trashed the place. Though most of them wasn't even his fault in the first place. "But... but this is ridiculous! How can the repair fee be this much?!"

"That's not the repair fee, boy. That's her drink fee," The bartender said nonchalantly, nodding at the red-head who was positively fearful right now, trying to hide behind the bartender. "Ask her, she's the one who told me to put everything on your tab,"

...Wait, what? What do you mean? You mean to say that he's gotta pay for everything, EVERYTHING Freda had gotten from the bar? Wait, what the heck? What's going on around here?! Where the heck is he gonna get all the money to pay for this much?! So you're saying that Freda was late... because she had been adding EVEN MORE to his bill?!

"S-sorry..." The red-head's voice came small from behind the bartender, timid and shaking. She couldn't help herself, all this time she had been drinking there she kept on putting everything on his tab without even thinking about it. Why had she done all that she had no idea. Now she'd gotten Seth into a big crap ass trouble he was never responsible for in the first place.

Just a friend huh? That was a weird choice of words, considering she was his girlfriend and all. Or perhaps he had been lying to her, to scare her off a bit? And a freeloader.. For being committed to a girl, he sure didn't seem happy about it. Even stranger.. His next unfinished sentence confirmed it. She had heard enough. So she wasn't his girlfriend.. Ah, it would've been more exciting if it was his girlfriend. Oh well, it would make things easier she supposed.

Hana followed Seth's line of sight, curious as to what might have grabbed his attention mid-sentence. It was a woman and a man with a beard wearing an apron. She wondered what kind of connection Seth had with the peculiar duo.

"Where the heck have you been?"

Oh. So this was the girl he had been waiting for. Hana gave her another once-over, noting her as possible competition. She was attractive, but the kunoichi believed she had her beat in terms of looks. She lacked the air of charm Hana possessed and not to mention, the red-headed woman was not as busty as her. Hana felt pride in her thoughts, practically glowing with the emotion.

The bearded man's voice pulled her away from her train of thought. She watched in surprise as he handed Seth a slip of paper which was soon revealed as a bill. Ha.. How troublesome this woman was! Hana smirked to herself briefly before taking on a look of surprise. She was sure no one had seen it, after all, everyone was busy worrying about this bill.

Hana listened on with glee as they conversed. This was perfect! If Hana helped him out with this sticky situation of his, he would feel gratitude, and maybe even more.. And it appeared the woman had a drinking problem as well! Everything was sure playing out in her favor. The kunoichi peered over Seth's shoulder to see how much he owed, only to have Hana's eyes almost jump out of their sockets. ..THAT much?!

Now she was hesitant. That much.. it would take months.. maybe even a year! Maybe she shouldn't jump into this problem after all.. But if she did, she would have a reason to socialize with Seth and would make the task of making him hers even faster! Ah.. what to do, what to do?

Hana put a reassuring hand on Seth's shoulder. "It'll be paid off," she said confidently to the apron-wearing bearded man, "For the meanwhile, you can take this as compensation.." She reached for the back of her neck and took off her magatama necklace, fondling it in her hand. This just meant she really had to pay this debt off.. It would be her motivation. Looking up at the burly man, Hana reluctantly handed it over.

Perhaps it was a mistake.. Ah well. If she wanted it back, she could always just sneak into the place and steal it back. She was a ninja, after all. Hana smiled at Seth. Man, the guys around here took a lot of effort..

A bit hesitant, he glanced between Freda, the bartender, and the slip. Looking at how depressed she seemed she probably never expected any of this to happen, never intended to get Seth into this sort of trouble in the first place. And if that wasn't enough, she probably didn't get paid enough to settle the entire debt all by herself... not that he expected anyone would be paid enough to handle this kind of debt. But... awh, dammit, what was he supposed to do...?

And then something unexpected happened. Hana suddenly slid in between them, taking something off her neck and handed it over to the bartender, apparently... intending to take the responsibility to pay off the entire debt?

Hell no.

The bartender stared with surprise at the magatama in her hand for a while, but before he could actually decide on anything, Seth had already taken it first. "No need for compensation," He said, giving a regretful sigh. Man, life just have a way of getting him in great trouble. "Do you take part-timers?" He asked the bartender.

The bartender himself stared at him instead, giving him a calculating look. Despite his somewhat rough looking exterior, those eyes felt as though he could easily cut things cleanly in half just by watching. It was as though he could see right through him. After a while, the bartender gave a shrug and said, "We could use some extra hands in the kitchen,"

"That should be good," Seth gave a satisfied smile, nodding reassuringly to Freda as he noticed her dumbstruck look. "Don't get me wrong, I'm still mad about this," He said that, but his tone didn't actually suggest that he was angry or anything. In fact, he seemed quite content. And the smile easily gave it away. "But it's alright, what's done is done, I'll get it done in less than two weeks,"

He was pretty sure the pay wouldn't be enough for him to finish paying it off in two weeks though. Freda didn't answer, as she simply looked down at her shoes apologetically, unable to find her tongue. She wanted to apologize, but whatever she wanted to say or do probably wouldn't be enough for this... or so she thought. Noting that she was still feeling guilty about it, Seth gave a shrug, walked over to Freda and thwacked her HARD on the head. "Ow! What was that fo-"

"You know very well what that was for," Seth said with a grin, shaking his fist as Freda faltered in her protest. Her shoulders slumped as she looked away, rubbing her head, before turning back at him with a small shy smile. "Ah... o-okay... I... guess I deserved that..."

The two finally left, with Freda being dragged back to the bar to help pay everything off, leaving Seth with Hana together alone yet again. "Mattaku..." Seth gave a frustrated sigh, scratching his head as he started racking his brain for places to get even more part-time jobs. Until he realized that he was still holding onto Hana's... magatama thing... whatever it's called.

"You're an idiot, you know that," He said, turning around to face her, and instead of just giving it to her, he took the string of the magatama necklace and tied it around her neck. "It wouldn't have taken months, it would have taken years to finish paying off that debt," Well, considering how stingy the bartender is... that wasn't exactly far from the truth. "Still..." He took a step back from her, giving her a somewhat admiring smile. "That was nice of you. Thanks for the consideration," Of course, he had no idea she had intended to just steal the magatama necklace back, so he thought she was completely serious about taking the responsibility for him.
