"...Make Me Real..."
Stood on the outskirts of the mass of tables and sea of students, a young girl scanned the lunch room around her, meanwhile clutching in her hands an aqua coloured tray on which stood a sandwich and a carton of juice. While she was new to the school, Alice had not realised until now how many students actually attended, although with a quick glance, the brunette wondered if it was merely an illusion created by the size of the room.

With the task of finding an empty seat, she finally spied out a corner of her eye a chair next to a window. Unfortunately, travelling from one side of the cafeteria to the other proved to be more difficult than first planned as with a grimace, Alice moved passed a group of students conversing rather loudly, only for one of them to step directly into her path. With a silent sigh, the brunette blanched mid-step, readjusting her tray in her hands as she resumed walking. Students are inconsiderate creatures. At least, that's what Alice believed she heard a familiar voice mutter.

Oh Reno...

As the girl smiled, she set her tray down on the vacant table with a clatter and ignoring the nearby students, removed her bag. Poking out of the very top was a redhead doll; his smile in a permanent smirk despite his unhappiness. An unhappiness that Alice was more than aware of as she removed him, meanwhile shaking her head in mild amusement as she pushed the bag beneath the table. The brunette often wondered if she should be grateful that she was the only person able to hear them - that is, aside from fellow Doll Makers of course. With this thought in mind, Alice sat down, placing the doll carefully on her lap.

"Could you be quiet, please?" she asked, hushing her voice in an attempt to not draw attention to herself. After all, people often gave the fourteen year old strange looks for having a doll in her possession, regardless of whether or not she was speaking to it.

Well someone's giving her a weird look alright. But it wasn't because she was in the possession of a doll despite her age. It probably shouldn't be classified as a weird look. Maybe a look of someone who was dying of hunger. It was actually surprising that she hadn't realized that Seth was already sitting at the same table next to the window, his chin resting on the desk as he stared dagger at the sandwich and the box of milk. As though the two edible material were mocking him and his hunger for not having anything in his dormitory to make his own bento, not having any money to buy any bento from the convenience store, and not having anything to eat since... who knows when. Damn he needs to stop wasting money on stuff he doesn't need... despite his rather large part-time income.

So... what is he doing now? Like I said, he was sitting there at the same table the girl with the doll was sitting, staring with a stern expression at the sandvich and the single carton of milk. Maybe he was having a staring contest with them. Who knows, but he sure hated the sight of them not being in his possession for him to consume.

Poor girl, having to deal with a troll on her first day at school.

Unconsciously, Alice pinched the bridge of her nose. As much as she loved the doll in her arms, there were times where Reno really tested the girl's patience. During her journey here, he had refused to utter a word, sulking in his own way. Now that Alice was here, he seemed intent on telling her just exactly how much he hated it. The noise... The lights... The students... The campus. The fact she had little input regarding the decision didn't seem to matter and for the time being, the brunette pointedly ignored him. From experience, she knew when he wanted to rant, he would rant and that nothing the girl could say would stop him.

"A huh," she murmured in either agreement or acknowledgement, a light frown forming on her brow with concentration. Alice wasn't certain which; she had not been listening as the young girl focused her attention on removing the straw and pierced the silver film of the carton instead.

"You don't need food..." the brunette began, sounding fairly exasperated.

In all honesty, she should have expected this. While Alice liked to believe Reno liked nothing more than companionship as a human, she had noticed his everlasting hunger and how he insisted on using his hour around mealtimes. Perhaps because he missed food? Or the transformation in general left him hungry? Alice didn't know, but with this thought in mind, a moment later she relented as she muttered, "Fine. I'll cook you dinner later." There was a pause. "If you let me eat my lunch in peace."

Almost by magic, Reno's voice disappeared; the only noise generated by the surrounding bustling students. With a smile, Alice returned to her lunch and as she removed the sandwich from it's cellophane packaging, for the first time she noticed the student that shared the table. The way he was staring at her lunch for an instant remained her of the doll in her arms and with a quizzical expression upon her features, she lowered her gaze. Why did she feel the strangest discomfort by the thought of disturbing her lunch? Alice almost felt obligated to leave the sandwich and carton where it stood so he could stare at it.

"Are... Are you alright?" she questioned after an initial hesitance, her voice timid as she slowly moved a hand to pick up the carton.

Curse the breads and the fillings in between and the milk and the straw in the milk carton... you may have won this round, consumable entities, but be warned. So long as Seth is still alive, one of these days he will have his revenge and ravish you to his heart content. Cue maniacal evil laugh and dark stormy backdrop--"Whuhuh?"

Brought back to Earth from his delusion by the sound of a human asking about his mental health condition the boy gave a start, glancing around nervously for the source of the voice. A bit odd that he couldn't immediately notice the girl sitting at the opposite side of the table, but the confusion didn't last long. "Ah... oh, um..." He muttered, looking away quickly after realizing that he had been staring at the milk carton with a death stare. It actually took him a while to finally grasp on whatever was being asked, to which his response was, "Ooooh, yes yes, I'm fine. Great and incredible. Thank you very much," He said with an unconvincingly shaky voice despite the high volume he had used in an attempt to hide his demise. "There is absolutely nothing wrong with me, nothing at all. Nothing to suggest that I haven't had anything to eat since three days ago and was craving for the sandvich and the milk you currently have,"

...Yeeaaa... At the very least stop staring at her lunch to make it a little bit convincing.

For several moments, Alice's gaze switched been the boy and the food upon her tray, apparently in deep thought. The dots being connected were almost visible in her mind, although when the girl reached the obvious conclusion, she was initially unsure how to react. From her lap, the redhead had plenty ideas however, which were namely to eat the food as fast as possible and runaway to escape. Apparently, there was a look in his eyes that Reno did not quite trust in spite of the fact it mirrored his own on more than one occasion. So much for peace - it never lasted long where he was concerned, but as always, she couldn't stay mad at him for long.

"I... I see," Alice eventually commented, doing a poor job of sounding convinced with an eyebrow raised sceptically. Perhaps because indeed his gaze had failed to leave her lunch, which is when the brunette ultimately made a decision.

Wordlessly, Alice picked up half a triangle sandwich from out of the cellophane wrapper, before subtly sliding the tray with the remaining half and carton across the table. When she was done, the tray magically finished up directly in front of the male, although she didn't look up at him or speak again. Neither did she listen nor react to the outrage that began to spew from the doll in her possession. Instead, the brunette began to eat her half the sandwich in silence, meanwhile wondering if he could take the obvious offer. At the very least, he hopefully wouldn't take it as a personally attack and Reno wouldn't stay mad at her all day.

...Wait... what is this...? Could... could he be imagining it...? Is this a trick of the eyes, a mirage, a hallucination? Maybe he had actually died on the spot and was now in heaven? This... he couldn't believe his eyes. Or his nose. The smell wafting from the sandvich is just... too delicious for it to be a reality...

Could... could this be true...?

Still in a state of disbelief, after glancing back and forth between the girl and the sandvich, his hand extended slowly and shakily towards the consumable material. Even holding it firmly in his hand was hard. He stared suspiciously at the fillings between the two triangular slices of bread, wondering what sort of sorcery had been implemented to make it look and smell and feel so real... But what if it's a fake...?

...

He took a bite.

...

Almost immediately tears of joy and happiness began to stream from his eyes like waterfall. The fluffy feel of the white bread sanviching the soft and creamy taste of eggs and mayonnaise in between, the light sharp feel of the pepper, the crunchy goodness of fresh green vegetables, the mouth-watering sensation that sent chills down his very spine~! "You are a god-send!" He said suddenly, slamming his hands on the table and bowing his head to the girl to the point his forehead struck hard on the wooden surface. "I... I cannot think of a way to repay this kindness...!" Apparently he was able to ignore the pain from the rather strong hit thanks to the joy of being able to taste some real food after a few days of starvation.

Some would say that he's just trolling her, but looking at his enthusiasm... seems like he was serious about this.

With an eyebrow still raised - either in amusement or disbelief, Alice could not have predicted the reaction the small gesture would have caused. However, her eyes could not help except be drawn to watch the male, although the girl visibly jumped in surprise when he suddenly banged the table. First with his hands and then with his head. Inwardly wincing, the brunette had to scramble to secure Reno on her lap. With his voice now muttering darkly, she only heard the odd word over the noise of the cageteria, but with her attention primarily focused on the boy currently giving thanks, she gave little heed to crazy and insincere.

"It's only half a sandwich," Alice informed him meekly, her cheeks tinted with a hint of a blush. After all, if he really had not eaten for three days, the sandwich would not last for long no matter how good it tasted, although that prompted the question as to why exactly he had forgone food for so long. However, this was a question that the girl naturally wouldn't ask out of the fear of being rude and not for the first time, the brunette felt momentarily guilty for keeping half the sandwich to herself. She did not deserve such praise or show of gratitude.

Perhaps wishing to change the subject or out of genuine concern, Alice enquired, "How is your head?" From the sounds of things, he had struck it very hard.

Half a sandvich probably ain't much but for someone whom had been deprived of anything edible for who knows how long it was a blessing and a miracle no matter how little it is. Just like a person who had been stranded on a desert for days to months without any water would be glad for just a single drop down their throat. "The head is fine, madame," He said as he raised his head, ignoring the rather large bruise on his forehead. Aah, how truly indebted he was to the kindly little girl.

Well, whether or not he was actually fine or would be fine with just half a sandvich, he certainly wasn't going to let her go without repaying her somehow. "Really though, you saved my life! I thought I had to go back to looking around the trash for leftovers!" He said with a laugh, a somewhat pitiable confession from such a cheerful looking boy. It really was the truth. First time he got here he had not a single yen on him to even get himself a piece of bread from a preschooler. "Haah... how time passes..." He said, giving an aura of slight melancholy as he reminisced the harsh first day in Hyakuji.

"But anyway,"
He said after a few moment of silence, shoving aside the somewhat stare-inducing topic of discussion. "I think I've seen you in class. Alice Suzuki, was it? You can call me Seth," He said with a cheery grin.

With a faint nod, Alice gave a small smile in relief when the male informed her he was okay - or rather, his head was okay. Except for the colourful bruise that was currently blooming on his forehead, although the brunette thought it wise not to press the matter further. Not that she was really presented with an opportunity as instead, he began talking once more. Considering the nature of the subject, she was fairly dumbfounded by his demeanour, especially when he laughed. However, cracks were evident when he abruptly changed the line of conversation.

"It is," she began, clarifying the fact he already knew. While he had remembered her - and he must have done to get her name correct, Alice had seen so many new faces and heard so many new names that morning her memory couldn't produce an answer. "Nice to meet you, Seth."

Shifting rather uncomfortably in her seat, Alice almost wished she could gag the doll into silence. Thankfully, no one could hear him, especially Seth who unfortunately was the target of the redhead's mumblings. With a sigh and a roll of her eyes, she looked down at Reno and lightly scolded, "Don't be so rude."

Abruptly, Alice looked up at Seth and gave a nervous laugh. She knew how she must look, although he hadn't questioned the doll's presence so far and the brunette was more than aware he had been present during her and Reno's earlier exchange. However, nerves and perhaps slight panic getting the better of her, the girl continued to question with little consideration. Unfortunately, What do you do for dinner? became "What are you doing for dinner?"

"...Don't remind me of dinner..." He said in a gloom voice as once again his head slumped to the desk. Ah... right, half a sandvich couldn't possibly be enough to last half a day, let alone a few hours. He groaned with his face planted flat on the table, already feeling his stomach craving for more. Na... he can't ask for more, that would just be bad. "S'alright... I think I can survive the whole night..." He said as a matter-of-factly, the sentence having nothing to do with the question and was more of a reassurance for himself. Simply because he sorta knew the question wasn't exactly directed at him.

"So uh... who were you talking to anyway?" He said in a muffled voice, face still flat on the wooden board of the table. Surely she wasn't just talking to herself now was she?

With an apologetic smile, Alice inclined her head in acknowledgement as Seth spoke, although it was becoming increasingly difficult to follow the two lines of conversation. Somewhere amongst the exchange, a confusion had occurred over who exactly she was addressing and consequently, Reno was speaking to her as well. However, the brunette should not have been surprised considering she was the only one who could hear him speak, which in respect made interrupting somewhat difficult on Reno's part when he wasn't interrupting the girl herself.

"Um..."

After initial hesitance, Alice picked up the redhead so he was momentarily visible over the table. As can expected, he was not happy by the upheaval, but ignoring his protests with the faint blush slowly returning to her checks, she managed to calmly explain, "Reno."

When that answer didn't seem satisfactory enough, she clarified further, "I can hear voices." Then, when realisation quickly dawned, she corrected, "I can hear dolls' voices." After all, that one tiny word was the difference between insane and less insane.

Hrm. Had she not explained to him that she could hear doll's voice, he would have been happy to think that the girl was simply too lonely and made friends with dolls. It sorta got a momentary pause from him, but he was quick to shrug the fact off. Well, see, he can't really call her insane. Partly because, if what she said was true, then she's sorta in the same boat as Seth himself.

"Souka, so his name is Reno," He said simply, apparently satisfied with the short explanation before slumping his head back on the desk. "Lemme guess, Reno's been calling me a mad insincere dude who robs lunches from helpless little girl?" For some reason he can't help but give a chuckle. "That's quite a friend you have there,"

With a grin - a mixture of nerves and amusement, Alice slowly gave a reluctant nod of her head and a regretful sigh. He was right. More or less.

"You could say that..." the girl finally agreed, choosing her words carefully as to not elaborate further. After all, Seth did not need to know the exact details, with the brunette deciding he was possibly better off that way since her comment could easily be disregarded as a remark on her friendship with the doll.

"Don't worry," she began, her smile relaxing to become more natural. Without thinking, she shifted in her chair, meanwhile putting her arm over the doll's lap to secure him in place. "It's just not you. I'm an idiot for being the helpless little girl that you rob lunch off." A pause. Naturally, she was joking and surely enough, her smile grew just that tiny bit brighter as she added, "He's just mad you beat him to it."

"Ahaha... yeah sorry about that," He laughed nervously, turning away and scratching his head with a slight pang of guilt. Really though, had he not been that starving he wouldn't have bothered to mooch lunch from others. Not that he hadn't done that before...

Hush you.

Eh, he'll find a way to pay her/him/them back. Okay, admittedly he was a bit hesitant on using 'him' for some obvious reason. But really, what's the harm in that? "Haah, must be hard to have someone like that being with you all the time. I can understand that," He said, finally getting his face off the table and sitting upright, a huff of indignation coming from the metavirus inside his head. "Also if you're not eating that, gimme. Lunch hour is sorta ending by the way, and you definitely do not want to be caught wasting food just because there's no time," He said, waving a finger at the half-eaten sandvich still in her hand. Well, alright that sounded a bit hyperbolic. He just a bit greedy when it comes to his stomach.

As if to match the internal huff inside the boy’s head, the doll simultaneously gave a huff of his own in outrage. With a small smile however, Alice just ignored him with her attention focused on the currently speaking Seth. She had been joking in regards to the sandwich and while there was a small pang of curiosity of what exactly Seth meant by the comment, the brunette didn't have the chance to press further, even if she did possess the inclination.

"What?" she asked, momentarily taken back by his abruptness.

With a brief flicker of confusion, the girl fortunately caught on fast and outstretched her hand across the table, offering the bitten sandwich in question. At least he didn't seem concerned about germs and the like, but somewhere from her lap she heard yet another familiar string of insults that was shortly followed by stony silence.

"Oh, sure. Here."

The sandwich successfully disposed off in a fashion, Alice presumed to pick up the doll and carefully balancing him in her arms, retrieved her bag from the floor and slung it haphazardly over a shoulder. All that was left was to take the tray away and disappear off to class. Not that it would take Seth long to eat the remaining sandwich.
