The man yawned loudly as he stretched out. He got out of bed wandering over to his hat rack and grabbed his favorite fedora, before turning and looking out the window. He lived the high life, quite literally. Women, fun, solving crimes. He even had his own detective agency. Not much to complain about.. And the literal aspect? He lived in the top floor of a building he owned. Oh yeah, it was good to be the boss. He wandered over to the mirror eyeing himself. "Looking good mister Winston.." He said cocking his fedora to the side. Yup. Oliver Z. Winston had it good.. He wandered to the elevator hitting the button.. ~~~ Oliver yawned stretching out as he wandered over to his desk. Naturally it was the only desk in here. Oliver preferred to work alone. He'd hired that secretary Emiko Nakahara, and he'd taken in Chetri due to various incidents but otherwise he liked to keep the Winston Detective Agency small. He had trouble working with others.. Well except for his best friend and roommate Seth Ryouga. He didn't mind running cases with him. Still it felt.. weird... The WDA always seemed like it should have two desks. Like a nagging feeling in the back of his head.. Something just seemed... off about this... But the Winston Detective Agency was his and he'd work solo if he damn well pleased. He didn't need partners. All he needed a girl to fetch his coffee and to get rid of Chetri as soon as possible.. He certainly didn't need.. like.. friends. Or a family of annoying people.. Man, where did he even get weird ideas like that? He'd ALWAYS been alone. The only friend he ever even had was Seth. Man. his brain was being weird today! Oliver leaned back wondering what case would appear today....? |

Born with a heart broken from the start

It was Emiko’s second day as the new secretary at the Winston Detective Agency and she had to admit that she really liked it, she could tell that it was an interesting and dynamic place to work at only after two days. Even the employees were energetic and full of life, very different from her own calm and collect nature, but it was still very nice and exciting to be around them. Emiko had already been at the agency for twenty minutes when Oliver came down to the office. She had arrived a little earlier than necessary and was back in the staff break room where the coffee pot was along with snacks and a mini-fridge for drinks so that they didn’t need to go to the kitchen for beverages. Emi wasn’t much of a coffee drinker, she preferred tea, but she made fantastic coffee after years of making it for her father who was a coffee lover. It didn’t matter if you preferred it strong, sweet or weak, she could do it all and funny enough Emi was also quite good at making tea since that was what her mother always drank. To be honest, Emiko had more or less all housewife skills down after being the responsible one in the Nakahara household. A strong coffee sent wafted from the break-room as Emiko exited it while holding a couple of rambutan fruits in her hands and saw Oliver sitting behind his desk. “Oh! Hi! I didn’t know anyone was down here with me,” she walked over to the large table where the staff usually sat by during briefings and dropped the fruits down beside her bag and jacket on the table and took a seat. “I hope you don’t mind but made coffee back there, in case you guys wanted some.” |

"No more... no more please..." A groan that sounded like a zombie hungering for fresh human meat came from the basement. The door slowly creaked open and out came a dead-looking Seth, crawling from the stairs to the main hall. "Death Waltz... Faerie's Aile and Death Waltz... that song is impossible... it ate away my fingeeerrrs..." He said in a weak voice, raising a pale and blue hand that had apparently worked itself to near-death playing a fittingly named piano piece. He had been down in the basement all this time attempting to play one of the hardest piece he had seen on Youtube, but yeah. This is the result. "Ai? Emiko, you're here..." He pushed himself up to his feet, a hard task considering how he had managed to wear out his hands and how sore his backside was due to how long he had been sitting on that same bench for... hours, maybe? Who knows. "Dunno what you're doing here, we haven't had that much case lately, so..." Yeah, lately. It's been a while since they had anything to do with investigation or detective work, so lately it had only been Oliver, Chetri and Seth himself in the WDA office all day, all night waiting for any needy clients to knock on the door. Yeah. All this time it's only been him, Chetri and Oliver. No one else for who knows how long. Until Emiko showed up and signed in for the secretary position, since then the WDA had gotten a bit more lively. But it still seemed too quiet in his opinion. That shouldn't happen though. The only way he could feel like it was too quiet was only when they've had a noisier time than this. But... all this time it was only the three of them. Adding Emiko, this has got to be the noisiest time in the history of the WDA. ...Right? "Aah... Where's Chetri?" He said while scratching his head, wondering where the Ice Queen had been. Though he had to admit, an Ice Queen would probably have more personality than Chetri. |

"Tell me that's coffee," said Star as she walked into the office, sniffing the air. The familiar scent of the caffeinated beverage greeted her nose and the photomancer grinned. "Someone in this room gets ten awesome points from me. Morning, Olly-kun. Morning, Seth~" she added belatedly as she looked around the WDA greeting the people she saw there. Star frowned as her eyes landed on Emiko and she blinked. She hadn't been in the office yesterday, having been a little busy training for the Arcadia mission that was coming up, so she hadn't been around for her big introduction. But she had heard that they had a new member. The blond photomancer walked up to the girl, holding her hand out to her and offering her a warm smile. "Hey," she said. "You must be the new member I was hearing about. I'm Star. Nice to meet you." Star frowned, turning to look at Seth for the second time. "You don't look so good, Seth-kun," she said. "Want me to fix you a cup?" |

Olvier sighed heavily as he looked towards those gathered, "Honestly... a bunch of freeloaders, the lot of you.." He said rubbing his neck. Star had been hired for his side business which was renting out and cleaning up the top rooms so that they could be rented. Unlike most Oliver was all about profits and a detective agency wasn't gonna easily turn one so he figured out how to make the building pay for itself.. He felt rather accomplished about this, and it gave him another employee to bring in on cases too.. Everyone here sorta worked two jobs, but he only brought them into his detective side of things on rare occasions, he didn't like to use them. Not after what had happened to Kuro and Aki... Well he didn't like to think about that.. Besides, there had been that event with Star.... Kuro possessed her.. then tapped into her mind and accidentally unleashed her elemental powers.. and with no one there to calm her mind she had raged out of control and caused a great deal of harm. Luckily Oliver was able to work out with Hiro a way to seal the memory from her and prevent her from suffering in knowing she'd caused what many now called "Bloody Sunday" Aki'd been lost when she and Seth and Jennifer came into the submarine to save him with Chetri. A Certain photomancer, secretly a clone of Cypriss, had taken her out and nearly the entire team before Oliver was forced to kill him, only to learn afterwards it had been a friend of his... Then there was the heartless event.. Oliver had been trapped in that world alone for so long... He was never able to escape and tell the others about Ansem's plans which lead to even more deaths than there needed to be... Luckily it had worked out but if only back then someone could have helped him out.. There had also been issues with that Crow guy.. Oliver always wondered if his life would have been better if he joined the WDA? But nothing could change the path he'd gone down.... The WDA wasn't some.... family for those going down the wrong path.. He'd started it as a business, that's all it was... It all felt.. wrong. Askance of the way his life should have been... The WDA should be... the WDA should be... <"The WDA is... a family."> Oliver glanced up, surprised before spotting a man across the room who'd just entered. He was so distracted reliving his past he hadn't noticed.. What an idiot! The man smiled broadly, his grey eyes hidden behind that broad smile. He turned brushing his black hair back and ushered a woman into the room whom was, herself, extremely pregnant. <"Sorry, I was thinking of a line from a book I'm writing.. It'as about a detective agency called the WDA!"> He made sure his wife was seated before approaching Oliver. <"I don't know Japanese, never needed to.. So forgive me if I speak in english.."> ,"Not a problem, mister...?"> <"Jameson... Jameson H. Willicott. A pleasure to meet you."> Jameson said, offering his hand. <"Uh.. yeah. Nice to meet you too, sir."> He said taking the hand. <"What brings you all the way here..?"> <"I need to hire you guys.. I'm not much of an investigator.. or a fighter.. and it seems I'm in danger. I need your group to solve a mystery for me to get some nasty guys off my back... The Wo Shing."> Ah.. right.. that gang. Recently they'd been more and more troublesome. There was no one in Hyakuji that would stand against a group like that, and the few willing were quickly eliminated... No to mention those that joined the group. Perhaps the one thing in Hyakuji that felt the most... 'wrong' to Oliver was their presence.. Edited by Cypriss, Dec 5 2011, 12:09 PM.

Aha... a story about a detective agency WDA? Funny how things sometimes coincide, even with matters as small as names. <"Funny, you seem so calm despite knowing your life is in danger,"> He said, unable to help it, as he scratched his head. Huh. That's surprising, he can understand the man pretty well. As though there was a translating program inside his head or something. <"I take it that you're a writer then?"> |

<"Uh.... Well I'm not! Obviously I'm worried about my wife.. Although I will admit I find the situation terribly exciting.."> He said sheepishly as he rubbed his neck. <"I always write about these situations but I never get to live them!"> He said eagerly, before realizing how stupid he sounded and shrinking back. <"Er.. N-Not that.. I don't understand the gravity of the situation..."> His wife flashed him a smile before turning to Oliver. <"We're in trouble.. because of me.. I left the Wo Shing years ago and fled to America.. There I met Jameson and stayed. I had hidden myself well but when Jameson's novels gained popularity I was recognized."> <"Since then they've been coming for her.... First threats.. Then someone showed up. I'm no fool, I know the next step is her life."> <"I see..."> Oliver said as he placed a hand on his chin. <"You'll stay here for now in the apartments while we investigate.."> He said as he contemplated what to do next. <"I'll head out and look into this issue. See what it'd take to get your hit taken off."> He turned away from them and walked to Seth. <"Talk to them... Figure out more.. They're hiding something.."> He said before turning and heading for the door. Why would the Wo Shing talk to her at all..? They found her, they should have shot her. And why, knowing her position, would Jameson reveal her....? Something was off about this... He'd just have to hope Seth could get it out of them. Edited by Cypriss, Dec 6 2011, 08:15 AM.

Hiding some... eh, hay, wait! Snap, the door was shut. Leaving him alone with Emiko, Star, and the Willicotts. Uh... okay, so how was he supposed to pry out information out of them? Isn't it already an established fact that he, er... to put it bluntly, sucks at this? Seth simply stood there for a while, staring at the closed door with disbelief. Le sigh. <"S'alright, we'll work things out,"> He said casually, taking a cup of coffee and sitting down before taking a sip, only to spew everything back out again. "Damn, I hate coffee..." He said, wiping his mouth with a tissue placed conveniently nearby. <"So uh... while he's away, why don't you tell me more about yourself,"> He said, addressing the wife and the husband somewhat directly. <"It's for the investigation,"> |

Emiko was sitting and had started to peel off the thick skin of the rambutan fruit when Seth emerged from downstairs with a lot of groaning sounds, making Emi wonder what he had been doing down there with a small worried frown. Although that question was quickly answered by his weak whispers and sickly looking hands. “Hi Seth,” Emiko greeted before saying, “Yeah, I thought it would be good to come since I just started. I want to get to know everyone and how things work around here.” Seconds after that another person joined them and Emiko shook Stars hand, “Nice to meet you Star, I'm Emiko.” It seemed like there still were many people Emi hadn't met yet but then again it could only be expected that a detective agency would have many contacts. <"The WDA is... a family."> Glancing to the door when Emiko heard a familiar voice... Familiar? She had never seen that man before but why did he sound so...? Hmm.. strange.. she thought to herself as she watched the couple enter and listened to what they had to say. Emi recognized the name Wo Shing but only from the news and rumors. All she knew was that it was a dangerous gang. As the man who introduced himself as Jameson kept on talking Emiko reached for her notepad and started to scribble down the details, she was the secretary after all. She watched Oliver leave, gave him a small nod and then waited for Seth to take over so that she could take more notes for this case. Edited by Lelil, Dec 6 2011, 08:45 AM.

Jameson glanced to the boy before flashing him a broad smile. "About me..? i'm a novelist.. and.. there's not much else to say! My only accomplishments are my novels and my family.." He said as he wandered into the kitchen, taking dishes from the sink and prepping it to wash them. Might as well keep busy, right? No need to louse around. At the very least it would distract him from their troubles. "My wife was working for the Wo Shing because she was poor. She eventually realized she wanted out and left.. Not much else to it.." |

"Just a novelist?" Seth inquired, pouring the rest of the cup's content into a vase of flower. Well... guess that's acceptable. If this dude's just a novelist, then the main problem here is the wife, he guessed. Wo Shing is an incredibly notorious group of criminals, and it certainly surprised him to see someone who's still living after leaving the Wo Shing. Either she's an extremely important figure for the Wo Shing or... ... But before that. "I've been wondering though, why here? There's a lot of other much better detective agencies out there that probably have more qualifications and skills to help you. We haven't done much as of late..." He went quiet for a bit, remembering all of their previous missions and how much they had cost the WDA. "Also, you seem to know your way around here well. Whoever told you the kitchen's at the back?" |

Jameson nearly dropped the cup and shattered it, barely grabbing it in time to keep it from falling as the boy asked his questions. He glanced to the boy with a sheepish grin before turning away from him staring at the sink. "Do you ever feel like... you had a really vivid dream that you wake up from and you're not sure if it even was a dream or if this is the dream..? Where it all felt so real and the things around feel just a bit.... Fake..." He said as he eyes sink. He turned and glanced back to his wife in the main living area. "That's how I used to feel every day... Until I met her. Suddenly this world seemed far more real to me than the dream world.. But..." He glanced around. "This place.. it was IN my dreams... It doesn't make any sense but I KNEW you.. and that.. Oliver guy.. It feels like at least... This place.. this job... Everything feels... Right, in a strange way. I'm jsut not sure what it all means. But that's why I came here.." |

Emiko sat silently taking notes before Seth and Jameson went into the kitchen, still talking among themselves. Looking up from her notebook and putting the pen down she gave Jameson’s wife a small smile and said, “If you don’t mind me asking, what did you do for the Wo Shing when you were part of it? Do you have specific information that can compromise them and that is why they are targeting you now?” Emiko eyed the woman’s large pregnant belly and wondered if the couple was feeling extra stressed over that their unborn child was also at risk now that they had hide and run from Wo Shing. Glancing towards the kitchen and the men talking Emi noted “Your husband seem very at home here. It must be from writing all those detective novels,” she looked back at the wife with a thoughtful expression, “Although, I have to admit that he seems somewhat familiar to me… but sadly I can’t recall where I’ve seen him before. It must have been some TV show about his books or something, right?” There was something about Jameson that gave Emiko a weird… vibe? Like something was off and needed to be fixed. Emiko picked up the pen and used it to scratch under her bangs feeling a little frustrated before putting it to paper and writing down the wife’s answers. |

...That's an interesting story to say the least. "So that's the only reason... even if you had to put your wife's life in the hands of a small and sorta incompetent detective agency... you just wanted to come here," There's just... no reason to do that, now is there? Mad thing to do, really. He couldn't understand. Wo Shing chose not to eliminate her the moment they found her? Him picking this dingy little office over anywhere else much more competent, capable and well-equipped at protecting his wife? Led here just by some dream that seemed real? "Your wife, she's not really in danger now is she?" |

"You're mistaking cause and effect my dear boy.. I didn't come here and put my wife in danger just to meet you. Because my wife WAS in danger i came to meet you. She IS in danger but I came here because in all the world I think this place has a shot at protecting us from the enemy.... Don't mistake the seriousness of my situation.. She WILL die if we aren't careful.." ~~~~~~~~~ Jameson's wife leaned forward with a weary smile as she fussed with her ring. It shone with clear brilliance. The gold was clean and shiny and the diamond was untarnished. The ring had absolutely no scratches or anything and under it the skin was irritated and red, which was why she was fussing with it, rubbing her hand. "Hahaha.. we've been married for ten years and yet it still hurts to put it on sometimes.." She said looking down. "I was an assassin for the Wo Shing, one of the best. It was thanks to those skills that we made it here alive.. As for dangerous information.. yes. I have much of it. Targets, deals, etc. It's too hard to list them all. I was very important.." "Familliar...?" She eyed the girl. "Do you own any of his novels..?" The answer to which was no. Neither of them owned any of the novels and neither could think of anyone who did. "Well... They're American novels." She said quickly, as Jameson looked over to her. ~~~~~~~~ MEANWHILE ~~~~~~~~ Oliver slammed his foot into the door, blasting it open as he stepped into the room. "It was locked.." "Generally that means don't come in.." Came an eerily familliar voice. It was none other than The Professor himself... ![]() "Put your guns down, it's Oliver. That silly little boy who likes to play detective.." "Got to admit." Oliver said glancing to the guards whom put their guns away warily. "The level of grunt in this place has dramatically improved since you guys took over a few years back.. But then better criminals are sort of not what I wanted.." "So... what brings you here..?" |
