It was a typical weekend in Hyakuji. Students who were finally off from a week of classes. Many stayed at home to sleep in and many more spent their precious free time in the city. After a week of classes and homework, working was the last thing on any of their minds. Except for Tarin.

Since she often didn't concern herself with weekend activities, and had a very (very very very) narrow social circle, she was the natural pick for weekend shifts at Eldritch Influence. However, Tarin really didn't mind this at all, since somebody had to do it. And it wasn't as if the days were completely dull, either. Despite its niche appeal, the store did draw quite a few customers over the weekend, usually curious tourists, wannabe mages, and the occasional student looking for casual reading material. Though honestly, the majority of visitors were people looking for Cafe Mahou and accidentally going through the wrong door. Once in a while, rather shady people would come in to pick up or deliver strange packages. Tempting as it was, Tarin was smart enough not to tamper with them. Not only did she have no idea what these packages could do, but she didn't want to risk Hiro finding out and summoning another demon on her.

On that subject, work was now a little more hectic with Hiro absent, apparently off on some school sanctioned adventure. Fortunately, he seemed to have been prepared for this event and had shifts scheduled months in advance, a rare show of effort and planning from the normally laid back teacher.

But lately, Tarin started to feel more... constrained in this dusty old bookstore. When she first arrived, she didn't give much thought to the people passing by outside, enjoying their day. But now, every time she looked at them, there was this odd pang at the bottom of her stomach, but she couldn't really figure out what it was. Longing? Resignation?

Jealousy?

Why did she feel like she was in a cage all of a sudden?

Weekend in Hyakuji a time of relaxing, studying, or for Ikki Sanjiro, it was a day he spent in the Arcadia mansion training, with time slowly running out the boy knew he had to make sure his senses where sharp if he was to be of any use to Hiro, and the others. His day of training had ended only moments ago as he emerged from the portal, wiping the sweat from his forehead with a towel.

"Man what a day...I'm getting stronger, but still have to watch my movements, my air treks are the source of my speed, but if I lose them, I'm doomed." Ikki said to himself as he looked around the room. It was odd for Ikki to actually think of something other then combat, but lately he had been training harder, and even talking to Tarin less, to be honest he hadn't seen the girl much outside of school if at all. Spending most of his time training with Star, and the others in preparation for the next arcadia mission, the one that would decided the fate of the world, something Ikki wasn't used to, the fate of the world dependent on a group of kids? Even Hiro wasn't that old. Why did things seem to fall on the shoulders of Hyakuji students all the time?

"Man what a day...I can't wait to get something to eat. Sensei! You here?!" He said as he came out of the back room, his eyes meeting the back of Tarin's head. His body froze slightly as he saw the girl standing there. What was she doing here? Was it her day to work?! He was sure it was Star's shift, it had to be, he checked, but then it hit him. Tarin was assigned the weekend shift because of Star and him being busy with training.

"Kid...you better get ready to start lieing..." Kal said as he watched the scene with a bad taste in his mouth, he knew this wouldn't end well for Ikki. Tarin wasn't the type to not ask questions.

"Huh?" Tarin blinked when she heard Ikki's voice behind her. How was that possible? The only way he could have been in here without her noticing was if had been hiding in the back of the store this entire time. She whipped around, and sure enough, there he was, as real as the books sitting in the shelves around her.

"W-what the hell are you doing here?" She asked, trying to hide her surprise. She seriously wasn't expecting this.

Obviously, there were a lot of things that she wanted to ask. How exactly did he get here, and how long was he in the store? Tarin knew for a fact that the back room was full of secrets and magical artifacts, despite the fact that only Hiro and more experienced workers like Ikki and Star were allowed back there.

Now she was getting more curious than surprised, and she suddenly stormed forward, trapping Ikki against the back room door, preventing him from making a dash for the front door or retreating into the back room. She then leaned forward so that her face was just mere inches from his and glared straight into his eyes.

"What exactly were you doing back there?"

"Oh me? Well um I-" The boy was cut off as Tarin charged him, backing him into the door, and quickly cutting off any chance of escape that he could have had. Ikki had screwed up big time. He knew Tarin didn't know about arcadia, despite spending an ample amount of time at the store, and with him, he had managed to avoid telling her, despite him having to bail on their studying sessions all of a sudden, and the battle wounds that he always said he got from falling, all believable for those who knew Ikki, and from what Tarin saw of him, it really wasn't that hard to believe that the boy hurt himself, but this, was something he felt she wouldn't just let slide...unless.

"Umm well.." He leaned in kissing her lips gently before he slid down the door, trying to quickly get out of the girl's war path. He couldn't tell her about arcadia, not with the battle that was right around the corner, he couldn't have Tarin worrying about him, if something happened he wanted her to think he just left the school, he didn't want her to know the truth, it was for her protection.

"Ya know babe...I would love to stay and talk about this....but I'm hungry you see, and I need food, or else I won't be able too...umm work later..." He said, not sure if he was on the schedule at all, but figured it was worth a shot if he hoped to get out of this situation.

From the moment he reacted her her presence, Tarin had absolutely no doubt in her mind that Ikki was trying to hide something from her. However, she didn't anticipate the kiss he gave her, which caught her off guard briefly. Briefly. Also, Ikki's underhanded tactic backfired in the fact that it only irritated her more. She grabbed the collar of his shirt before he could get any farther.

"Hold on a second there-" However, she was suddenly caught off guard by the phone ringing on the front desk. That in itself was rather odd, since most of the business in the store was done in person. Still making sure she had a firm grip in Ikki's collar, she cautiously picked up the phone.

"Why hello there, dear." A kind, elderly voice cooed through the speaker. "Would you kindly direct me to Williamsburg? I'm have some dreadful business to attend there."

Even though she didn't recognize the voice, Tarin did recognize the words she was saying. Taking one look at Ikki and then at the door, she made a quick decision.

"Something really really important just came up. Just keep an eye on the store while I'm gone and I'll forget any of this ever happened, deal?" Then she sped off and out the store without even bothering to hear Ikki's response.

Scant seconds after Tarin had disappeared, a customer walked through the door. This was his first time stepping foot in the store, and definitely the first time Ikki had ever seen him, but he walked to the counter as if he knew every nook and cranny of the place. There didn't seem anything particularly remarkable about him, though. In fact, he was extremely plain looking, the kind of man you could lose in a crowd the second you took your gaze off him.

"My, my, that was quite a sloppy move there, Mr. Sanjiro." He said cheerfully as he leaned the counter. "You're quite lucky that I happened to decide to pay a visit on this very day."

Ikki froze slightly as Tarin grabbed him, they boy shaking his hands dismissively at the girl as he gave her a sly grin. "Oh come on Tarin, I'm hungry, I told you that, I have to go, look I will talk to you la-" Before he could go any further the phone rang, Tarin staring at Ikki as if she thought it where some sort of trick. She answered the phone, her attitude changing almost suddenly.

"Huh? Wait Tarin!" Ikki said, trying to stop the girl, but before he could react she was gone. Who could have called her? Ikki was sure Tarin didn't have many friends, and defiantly none that she would rush out on him for, something about this picture was wrong, the entire situation stunk to high heaven, but there was much Ikki could say to it. He let out a sigh as he went over to the counter taking a seat. As he took his spot behind the counter, a man suddenly entered the store, Ikki brought his eyes up examining the man as he walked, figuring he was someone here to see Hiro, Ikki decided to speak up.

"If your looking for Hiro Sensei...he isn't here right now, he is handling some important business, but I would be glad to tell him you stopped by Mr?" Ikki asked the man, but didn't receive the answer he was looking for. The man knew him? Something was up, first Tarin runs out, now some mystery man spoke to him, this didn't sit right with the young teen.

"I don't know who you are Mr. You certainly don't work for my family, or else you would have spoken the code....so I'm guessing you mean to start trouble...or maybe not...identify yourself now..." He spoke sternly, the child-like Ikki that was normally present, was gone, instead a more serious, controlled Ikki replaced him.

"Now now, is that any way to talk to your potential father in law?" The man said with a bemused smile, letting his words sink in. "And a quick tip. Say what's only necessary to get your point across. You might not have thought what you said was very important but it was for me. I do so love cracking codes..."

It was by now that Mr. Richards finally seemed to have noticed that Ikki was taking this situation very seriously. Well, that was a good sign, at least. He wasn't as completely hopeless as Tarin made him out to be. He rather suspected that this was a side of himself he'd never actually shown to the girl.

"Oh please, you don't have to be acting so tense. I'm just here to talk. I'm sure you've met quite a number of individuals willing to start trouble in Mr. Hiro Tsukasa's backyard, but I can assure you I'm not one of them."

Mr. Richards then nonchalantly pulled a book from a nearby shelf and gave it a quick look. He chuckled slightly before putting back. "Oh dear, I was quite sure we had destroyed all of those. Anyways, I'm sure you're wondering what such a secretive man like me is doing here. Well, it's simple, really."

He snapped the book in his hand shut with a very loud and audible crack before returning it to the shelf. He then turned to Ikki, returning the very same serious look. "I'm here to see whether you really do care about my daughter."

"Huh? Future father what?!" Ikki said as he jumped back, was this man who he thought he was? But it couldn't be, if this man was Tarin's father then he should have been dead by now. "Mr.....Richards?" The boy said, trying to come to terms with the fact this man was Tarin's father. But then why would he send her off? It didn't make sense, unless he didn't want her to know he was here, the thought of this caused the boy to tense up slightly out of fear. Was Tarin not allowed to have a boyfriend? Did Ikki cross some line and now the man was there to kill him?!

"Oh? Well you just missed Tarin, she got a call, and bolted out of here, although now that I know who you are, I'm guessing you had something to do with that?" The boy said softly as he stared the man down. Ikki wasn't sure if the man was here to talk like he said, or was he here to do the boy harm to protect his little girl? Well whatever it was, Ikki would make sure he stayed prepared. Ikki listened as the man said something about the book's that where on the shelves. The boy jumped slightly as the man slammed the book closed.

"You want to see if I really care about Tarin? Easy enough...I love her, whatever you need to ask, just ask, I'm an open book, no secrets.." Ikki said with a huge smile as he moved a little closer to the man. He wasn't sure what Tarin's dad had planned, but he knew he loved Tarin with all his heart, and he would make sure the man knew that before he left.

"Well, that's rather unfortunate, but expected." Mr. Richards shrugged. "Then again, one of the perks of being a parent is being able to predict what their children can do."

He could tell that Ikki was not quite convinced at his story. That understandable, and a point in the boy's favor. Cautiousness was always a good quality. Even though he really wasn't intending to hurt or harm Ikki (much), it was always nice and a little bit gratifying that Ikki thought he would.

"Oh, but asking would do no good for me. You see, people can say anything. Truth, after all, is a subjective thing. What sounds true to you may sound like a blatant lie to me. No, the best indicator of a man's character are his actions." At this point, Mr. Richards started slowly moving about the room, gauging on whether Ikki was keeping close track of his movements or not. "After all, my life is completely centered around danger. My line of work is dangerous, and it requires me to associate with extremely dangerous people, both as allies and enemies. I'm sure you have a little experience with that." He then smirked, with a glint in his eye that signified he knew something most people shouldn't.

"You see," he continued "I had a number of reasons to send Tarin here. Mostly it was to see how she could deal with being in an environment with constant danger, because honestly, can anybody really say Hyakuji is a safe place with a straight face?"

Mr. Richards then stopped and leaned against a bookcase, as if he was waiting for Ikki's response.
