Dakota enters the meditation chamber. She sits down, closes her eyes, and starts to meditate. As she focuses her mind, she becomes aware of her life force. It was like a glowing field throughout her body. She knew that darkness was near her, but her abilities were not those of gathering it. She could convert her lifeforce to it, but gathering what Mother Nature was willing to provide was not an option. She attempts to gather her composure, within her, she barely thins out her life force to gather it. Outside, she winces in the pain that gathering that energy caused. Right then and there, she could have made a pitifully weak version of Dark Thunder or Dark Blast. However, that would have not been the point. She was making an effort to turn it into a well controlled orb, but dim orb. However, the inner pain caused by converting it to darkness ruined her concentration. Quickly, rather than losing control over the energy she had just made, she discharges it in the form of her Dark Thunder attack, although choosing to let it dissipate rather than firing it. Without a constant, but weak stream of energy to keep it around, the attack dissipated, as the air around where the attack was seemed just slightly darker than it was before, then promptly returned to it's former levels. Dakota opened her eyes, and sighed. "Looks like I'm still going to be using magical brute force." she thought, 'Magical Brute Force' being her term for her current way of fighting, compensating for her lack of control over her powers, the ability to shape it into a more damaging and efficient form, with the sheer amount of energy she could pack into any one attack, mostly due to the fact that the pain from how she had to gather the power to pull it off was an excellent way to lose concentration, forced the girl to rely on the sheer potency and concentration the power of darkness, converted from life energy, had. If she could have pulled off both potency, and concentration in equal levels, there was no doubt in her mind she'd be insanely powerful. For now, the only way to combine those was to lend others with more 'standard' darkness elemancy the energy she gathered, as if she was a human battery. She lets out a fairly loud sigh, signifying her failure. Edited by Tzauri, Nov 19 2011, 09:38 PM.

"Well Missy, that was quite the impressive feat right there." Jonathan stated in his oh so typical Irish accent as he walked out of the shadows and into view. It had been a while since he had last decided to visit the tower but he felt bored as of late. He decided that having a walk through the tower would be a nice way to get relaxed. He came across this girl practicing her own variation of shadowmancy, while Jonathan wasn't one to judge exactly how combat ready someone was that technique she fired off looked pretty darn impressive from his point of view. Not even bothering to wait for a response Jonathan walked over to where the blast was fired, noticing the unusualy thick shadows. Sound echoing from each of his footsteps as his feet hit the ground. It was rather quiet in the tower apart from the girl that was currently practicing of course. Even though she had managed to do something that potent from Jonathan's own opinion she seemed to believe that it wasn't that well done. Jonathan turned back to face the girl away from the shadows. "I wouldn't be to dissapointed, in my own opinion that wasn't half bad. Then again I'm not the instructor so don't take my word on it, i'm just going off my own opinion." Considering this was the opinion of a huge battle newbie it probably shouldn't be trusted but he didn't have to say that yet. "Ah, where are my manners." Jonathan said in a somewhat lighthearted tone. "My name is Jonathan Montford, I'm your fellow shadowmancy student." Jonathan said as he held out his hand with a sly grin. "It's nice to meet you." It was somewhat nice that there was another student of shadowmancy alongside him, it would be even nicer if they could manage to get along well. Jonathan needed to make a few more friends in the town so that if a certain annoying person who had already attempted to take his life tried again he would have people back him up. Only if they wanted to of course. "So, whats your name then miss?" Jonathan asked as he continued to hold out his hand waiting for a response. |

It appeared there was another Darkmancer in her presence, which didn't surprise her. After all, if one was in the Light and Darkness elemental section of the tower, it wouldn't be unusual. Dakota shook his hand. "Thanks, I'm Dakota Anthony." she introduced herself "Although my guess is that we have completely different styles." She figures he was at least probably stronger than her, an elder student. So it was nice to have someone she might be able to catch a tip from. "I'm still new at this. I've only had about two weeks of intensive training... which was to prevent me from 'discharging' and hurting someone by accident." she admitted. |

And the young girl hit the nail on the head after she introduced herself. They more then likely did have different styles because Jonathan was rather new at combat and barely knew anything at all about it. This wasn't to be confused with he was bad at shadowmancy, he was somewhat decent at it. Still though he hadn't properly used it in a fight apart from when he had lost control of himself for a brief while. "Well, everyone plays the game differently." Jonathan said jokingly as she referred to her different style. "Truth be told I havn't really decided on a specific style as of yet." Jonathan gave a small chuckle, he had mostly used his shadowmancy as just working around the house doing jobs that needed to be done. He supposed that counted as practice in a kind of way. It did help with doing multiple things with his shadow at once. However in actualy combat Jonathan really had very little experience, this was something that he would have to remedy. If he didn't get better at combat sooner or later he would have trouble when that man came, and their mightn't be people to help him next time. "I'm quite new to the combat use of shadowmancy as well, suprisingly enough." Jonathan divulged before considering an apparent option for them to both improve. "How about we go for a practice round up in the training room? See if we can both improve a little then." Jonathan said as he pointed behind him towards the stair to see if this girl was interested in having a sparring match. |

Dakota knew that people would have different fighting styles, especially given something like magic, and even more so with 'vaguer' elements, such as darkness. But with her 'source' being her very life force, that constituted a very different style. "Sure, that sounds great." Dakota told Johnathan. She walked upstairs, about half the battlefield was flooded with light, the other half with darkness, she walked to the side of the field covered in light, an odd move for someone who used darkness, as she clearly did. "You wanna keep it 50:50 or cover the whole field?" she asked "My source for darkness energy is a bit... different, so I don't suffer any benefits or drawbacks around light or darkness." |

Jonathan followed up the girl as she walked up the stairs. As he entered the room he looked at the current situation of light in the room. It was about half illuminated and half left in darkness. That was good because it meant the light was more or less a safer zone when fighting another shadowmancer. Staying in the darkness was a risky move against another shadowmancer because that meant that it could attack him at any moment. "I'd say keep it like it is now, it'll be more interesting." Jonathan stated as he walked into the opposite side of the light as well. "So then, shall I begin?" Jonathan asked in a somewhat still lighthearted voice. "Or do you want to throw the first punch?" This was going to be interesting, hopefully it wouldn't get to bad. Jonathan was planning on just keeping it as a sparring match and making sure that people wouldn't get to badly injured by it. Jonathan temporarily began to concentrate a fair bit his amulet began to glow a faint purple hue as shadows from the side of the lit area began to race in towards him. The shadows began to take form in his hand and they turned into a long pole, Jonathan was considering making it into a spear but since it was just a sparring match he decided to forgo that in favour of a blunt pole. It was a basic enough weapon, hopefully it would be useful enough. Amulet Energy: 100% -10% Medium Object Current Energy: 90% |

"Alright, let's go!" she shouted. Dakota started to channel her magic into crackling black thunder. Thankfully, it was far from her maximum strength, spending only 5% of her vitality rather than 10%, since it was a sparing match. She might not be able to control it in the sense of fully being able to make it dance to her whims, but she could restrict how much energy she shoved into her techniques. Still, there was an expression of physical pain on her face, as she channeled it, firing it out of her finger tips. However, there were no visual wounds, even though her fingertips, a small area where she had fired the attack from, was plainly visible. She wasn't the perfect shot in the first place, firing lightning that isn't really lightning from your fingertips isn't the most intuitive thing to aim with in the universe. Still, she aims for his hand, hoping that the nature of her darkness's flow could interrupt her technique, since it might be the equivalent of interference, although she was unsure if it could even work like that. She was staying in the light, however, and it was not exactly visibly clear exactly where she had gotten her dark energy she'd used, since it was visually obvious she hadn't gathered it directly from the environment around her. Jonathan quickly dodged to the side to avoid the black thunder ending up on the ground. "Whoa, that was quite close." Jonathan muttered to himself, suprised at the speed of the black thunder and how quickly she fired it off. He quickly stood back up right on the edge of the darkness. This girl seemed to be skilled enough that he almost got hit by that previous attack. This would make things more difficult for him because he hadn't really practiced much ranged ability with his shadowmancy yet. "That was rather close truth be told." Jonathan said as he glanced to where he was a moment ago. "If I was a second slower that would of got me." Jonathan decided that the best idea would be to charge straight and get into melee as fast as possible. As soon as he had finished regaining his balance he rushed off towards the girl in a sort of zig zag formation to try and avoid any attacks. When he reached the girl he swung his pole of shadows down at he right shoulder. He hoped that it would hit home and do a bit of damage to the girl but hopefully not to much. |

"Dang it! Missed!" she thought. True, she was close, but close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. And her attack didn't explode like a grenade would, and certainly was nothing like a horseshoe. And a miss on her side of the equation was a hit on her opponent's side. After all, whether her attacks hit their mark or not, the life force spent on it was spent. Rather than attempt to dodge, she took a stance that would hopefully keep her from sliding from his attack too much. Charging her power into her left hand, 5% of her vitality rather than the full 8%, she moved her right arm to block the attack, though she fails to take too take too much, only slowing the attack down, rather than fully stopping it. Sliding back some, she reaches out towards's Johnathan's stomach, though at this point, she couldn't get her hand to touch, where it'd be most powerful, and attempting to out to discharge a short-range, small burst of darkness from her hand, . At the range and power she'd put into that, the 'best case scenario' was that it'd cause an injury that's about as painful and 'dangerous' as falling on concrete and skinning your knee. |

Jonathan smiled as his attack hit home, he was actually suprised that his opponent didn't try to avoid it in some way, shape or form. If he was in that position that was probably what he would of done. Still however he had to keep his mind on the spar. Unfortunately as soon as he realized that he was rather defenceless for his opponent's counter attack Jonathan stopped smiling. This was going to hurt and there was no way that Jonathan could really stop it. He took the full brunt of the small darkness burst and pain filled his stomach. Jonathan managed to take a few step back. This was going to be annoying, obviously he'd have to try and keep a distance so the scenario wouldn't repeat itself. Jonathan thought for a small moment over what he could do to keep the fight going in his favour. He considered attacking with ranged as the most favourable option, if he tried attack in close combat the same thing that happened last time could happen again and Jonathan wasn't sure how much more of those he could take. Quickly deciding with sticking to range Jonathan concentrated and formed a hand sized ball of darkness floating above his hand. He threw the small orb towards Dakota hoping that it would impact and deal some damage but not to much. After all this was a friendly spar not a full on combat situation and if someone got really badly hurt that would be very bad. If it impacted the ball should only do a small amount of damage like a rock hitting someone. Amulet Energy 90% Small Object -5% Amulet Energy 85% |

Dakota managed to crack a smile as her attack hit home. Dakota's style may have been painful, but the fact that the flaw in her powers meant that being hesitant to allow yourself to be injured if the injury would let you get the upper hand was a combat flaw she'd likely never develop. Because she can't manifest her powers without hurting herself in the first place, taking a hit and missing with one of her own attacks were equally bad. Dakota moved to dodge the sphere, and managed to get out of the way. She attempts to close in on Jonathan. While it would seem she was going in for another burst, she attempts to short of range, and fire off a Dark Thunder attack at half strength (5% of her vitality). Dakota had to be tactical, she couldn't afford to be one of those idiots who'd throw ten attacks in hopes that just one hit. |

"Damnit." Jonathan frowned as his attack missed his opponent. He should of been expecting something like that to be dodged easily enough. After all he just threw what was equivalent to a ball at his opponent. It wasn't overly complicated but that was part of having to conserve his energy. Jonathan didn't want to waste all his amulet's energy on a big and flashy attack that went and missed. That would be a reckless use of his amulets energy not to mention a thoroughly stupid thing to do. Jonathan jumped back a bit to try and put some distance between them as she was coming in to do what Jonathan thought was another small burst. He wasn't going to fall for the same trick twice. "Shit." Jonathan barely managed to even be able to notice his opponents attack flying towards him. Dakota managed to trick him by firing off more of the dark thunder of hers. Jonathan couldn't react quickly enough and it slammed into him. Pain shot through his entire body, this was starting to be bad for him. "Damn, that hurt." Not to mention his wounds from the strangers attack on him were still fresh. "Honestly, I havn't got much left in me, so I think we'll have to finish this soon." Jonathan closed his eyes for a moment and began to concentrate, the shadows around him began to swirl around him in manic and random movements. They began lashing out at the nearby air in crazed erratic movements. Jonathan refocused his concentrating trying to form it into a solid shape, slowly but surely however the shadows yielded and formed a bladed arc in front of him. Jonathan released the attack and it flew towards Dakota. Jonathan was on the urge of falling unconscious due to the pain ravaging his body but he stood still waiting to see the outcome of the match. Dakota was pretty much at half strength herself. Johnathan's attacks, not to mention her own, had eaten up half of her vitality. She couldn't afford much more. At any rate, Dakota leapt back when the shadows started to swirl, in case that, itself was an attack. When the blade formed, she assume attempted to get out of the way. But still not fully used to her new body yet, she failed to dodge, taking it as a direct hit. The majority of her health was gone. She could probably execute another attack, but she'd be down to 25% of her vitality after that. Dakota was knocked over in pain, but she got back up, though she was unsteady at this point. Her own will was dwindling as of late, thanks to the vast amount of emotional trauma she'd been subjected to, and it was weighing her ability to continue her own consciousness. "Just... a... little more." She tried to focus, and some dark thunder crackled... but then she collapsed onto her knees and fell unconscious. Her problem was that her dwindling supply of will power was truly holding her back. |

Jonathan gave a small smile, it seemed like he had won. Granted this went beyond a spar and he probably got carried away more then he should have. "Not....bad." Jonathan muttered before he fell into blissful unconsciousness. He was lucky enough that his wounds didn't open with that much of a fight. He'd probably end up bleeding out or something if the wounds had opened up. It was a tough fight and he had no doubt about that, he had almost lost and if his opponent had managed to find a way to avoid that last attack Jonathan would of certainly lost to it. Still the fact that he managed to keep up in combat for that long showed that he was beginning to improve. However he would still have to improve quite a lot more than the level which he was currently at if he wanted to survive his next encounter with his rival. ************************************************************************ About an hour or so later Jonathan came to his senses. He lifted himself up off of the floor of the tower and looked across to his opponent who was still unconscious. Despite the pain that he was in he couldn't very well leave her there. Jonathan walked over to Dakota and picked her up, his body in general was still extremely painful from fatigue and previous battle wounds. Still it would be an idiotic thing to do to leave an unconscious person on the floor of the tower waiting for someone else to find her. Jonathan carried Dakota down onto the first level of the elemancer tower and placed her onto one of the couches. He was still in quite a lot of pain but he was able to move so it was okay. He stood up and walked over to the fridge in the room taking out a small apple and biting into it before walking back and taking a seat on a chair opposite to the unconscious girl. |

Dakota's own condition starting to improve, her wounds hadn't healed, although her expended life force was starting to restore itself. Life force restored itself quicker than a cut or a burn, since it was an energy rather than something physical. Her vision came back slowly, at first blurry, before starting to partially sit up, propping herself up against a pillow rather than just laying flat. "Looks like you won." she told him. |
