Low and droning. It was always there in the daily heat, continuous and filled with the kind of pandemonium that only nature could stir up. Japan's cicadas let out their chirping to deafen the world; and raised up from the dense trees, into the air like factory smoke; mixing with the far off hum of weekend traffic, the sounds of distant suburbs and stories all telling themselves at once. It wasn't common that the bugs made this much racket so late in the year; but like everything about Hyakuji, it's ecology could hardly be considered common.

"Welp. I made it." Gin let out a huff off exhaustion; talking out a loud to the forest more then anything. It had been hiking through the trackless greenery for hours without any sign of it's goal. Now the slime rested against the nearest tree, appearing as a young, dark haired girl dressed in a mauve coat far too big for her, black high stockings, a skirt and white jersey.

Opened out before it was the destination for today: The Elemancer Castle. Well, Gin didn't know that. All the slime knew was that the silhouette bubbled up memories, old film reel flickers of Gin's early years of self awareness. Now Gin wasn't one for attachment, but the kind of feels the look of this place stirred in it, Gin could't help but need to know more.

But it wasn't called a castle for no reason. Marching up the mountain was exhausting enough without having to slip through the thicket that surrounded that place. Now, Gin was staring straight at the front gate. It relaxed against the tree, taking in a deep breath and enjoying the sun for a second; gathering back the energy already spend just getting here. All that was left to do now was knock.

Nickle was sitting in his office, the top floor of the Lightning Tower, reading over an elemancy manuscript he'd borrowed from Damon's collection of books and texts. He'd never really been one to delve into the history of elemancy, only its principles, but as of late he found the reading the scripts could actually be useful for teaching some of his students. Nickle cocked his ear as a familiar sound came through his window. He put the manuscript down, looking towards the Sylph that had just entered somewhat unnannounced, although that was a given for them most of the time.

"Hey there, what's up? You look a bit flustered."

The small Aeon was panting somewhat heavily despite her size. "I have news! There's something at the perimeter of the castle, near the gate! I dunno what it is, but I saw this thing morph into a girl!" The aeon's explantation was somewhat vague, but it did catch Nickle's attention. He stood up behind his desk and stared at the aeon with semi-serious eyes. "Hold up, something? Was it a demon of some sort? An aeon?"

The Sylph shook her head and shrugged, "I couldn't make out for sure, I barely caught a glimpse of it shifting form. But that's just the thing, this girl looked like she had not form for a second." Nickle could understand the fairy aeon's panic. Since the infiltration of the Elemancer castle, Nickle as well as the other elemancers had been on high alert of strange occurances. He tapped away at a few keys on the computer on his desk, before a window popped up showing him a video feed to the Security room.

One of the moogles noticed Nickle's face pop up and immediately stood to attention.
"Kupo! What is it Ryuko-sama?"
"Please give me a video feed of just outside the front gate."

Within second a new window popped up on Nickle's screen to show a young girl resting jsut outside the gate. She certainly looked normal enough. Still, Nickle felt it best to go to the gate at once so he could see exactly what was going on. He went towards the window, leaping through it and letting his wings appear in a shower of light before making a beeline for the gate. He flew over it with relative ease, before coming to land in front of the gate, several meters away from the girl. As his wings dissappeared in a shower of light, he looked at her, a hand on his hip, "Please state your business and how you heard about this place." Normally new elemancers would catch a ride on Doomtrain, so it was acceptable for Nickle's tone to be somewhat suspicious.

Slack jawed, Gin just stared at the display put on with Nickle's wings. When he finally put them away, the only thought in Gin's mind was how to put lightening in a jar and put it on some string. Shaking it's self back to the here and now, the slime only started paying attention halfway through the elecromancer's question.

"What about this place now?" A little bit confused, and totally convinced it was no fault of it's own, Gin stared at Nickle of a very awkward, silent moment that the surrounding forest seemed smugly pleased not to fill. Giving a small jump of realization, Gin finally figured out it wasn't really suppose to be there.

"Ah! Um. Well. You know, this place is pretty big. You can kind of just walk to it...so I thought I would. See what's inside." Gin tilted it's head, observing the strange human with the disappearing wings of light. The slime had seen some humans tossing around elements before, but none of them could fly. It took a step to the side, giving Nickle a wide birth before continuing.

"Soooo, what's up there then? Is this your castle? Is that where you keep all your stuff? Like treasure and magical gizmos?" Gin's fascinations got the better of it, once again far off the topic of it's purpose here. If this human knew anything about the slime's origins, he could hardly be trusted to be forth coming with answers. Playing the childish wanderer is a trick Gin does well; even if most of the time it wasn't a trick.

Nickle eyes didn't waver from the girl, unsure of her motive. She seemed....too innocent. He could tell there was some truth in the fact that she had no idea what this place was, but that didn't make Nickle feel any better. She may have been wondering the forest and noticed the castle and its towers, its not unlikely to happen, although the terrain itself wasn't easy to navigate, hence why the elemancers had always used the secret underground railroad and Nickle doubted this girl knew about that, otherwise she'd be inside the castle grounds already.

"I'm one of the masters of this castle," he wasn't about to tell her how many there were, "And as for what's inside the castle, that's none of your business." Nickle saw her moving and it was making him edgey. Was she one of the people who broke in before? No she couldn't be, otherwise she wouldn't have made herself known. Still, news could have spread through whatever dark channels the previous intruder was linked to.

He raised his hand and fired a bolt of lightning in front of the girl, leaving a smoking crater in front of her. "I'm going to ask you again, what is your business here. It would be wise for you to answer me before I have to expel you from the grounds." Nickle was taking no chances in light of recent events. Erin being corrupted, the wind tower being destroyed, the materia having been tampered with. Those were 3 strikes and he wasn't about to let the Elemancers go through that again.

Gin's exterior form visible quaked as the bolt struck the ground before it, the resultant sound wave resonating through the slime and distorting it's form like an exaggerated shiver. Needless to say, Nickle's display had stop Gin dead in it's tracks; half way through a foot step no less. Now quite frozen in place, leg half still half raised in motion, Gin waiting for the smoulder to clear before spitting the dirt out of it's mouth.
"Thppp...thppppp. Ghaaah thu!" The slime had it's mouth open when the lightening bolt had detonated the ground, and a lot more soil had ended up in the air then perhaps Nickle would have thought. Gin hauked up a piece of lime green slime, rich with chucks of dirt, and sending it flying off into the undergrowth besides them.

The slime disguised as a girl shot a glare at Nickle before patting down it outfit, brushing off the dust that still settled in the air after the attack.
"I dunno what I want here. But I'll let you know when I see it." Gin put it's hand on it's hip, mimicking Nickle's stance from before he shot at it. Gin couldn't shoot lightening; but it'd be damned if it couldn't annoy this guy.
"That was pretty rude by the way, for a 'Master of this Castle.'" Gin switched over to Nickle's voice, emulating it perfectly. Another little jab of provocation at the electromancer.

Gin took a small step back still, not wanting too little room between them if those bits of impudence caused a more forceful attack. Not that the slime had anything to fight off lightening. Could you even dodge that stuff?
"As for expelling me? I go where I please." Gin took a big step to the side, towards the thickening forest edge it had originally emerged from.
"And I want to go there!" Gin darted off into the undergrowth, ducking down and sliding through with ease as it's form bent and flowed around the low branches and tickets. The slime figured a sharpshooter like that lightening man can hit you if he doesn't know where you are.

Nickle's eyes widened slightly as he saw the girl's body move as it did and the slime that came from her. She wasn't human. Could a demon from the portal have come this far? It had never happened before, but then again, the Castle had never been infiltrated before either. This was just becoming a rollercoaster of new experiences...

He kept her eye on her carefully, watching as she mimicked his stance and then...HIS VOICE!? Nickle's foot slid back and his arms dropped straight down to his side, lighting coursing through them. She was curous, but not in a nice way and she had a cheeck about her as well that didn't sit well with Nickle. The electromancer could just let this thing run free until he dealt with her, it, whatever.

"Hey! Get back here!" he shouted as she started to run for it. He had no idea what this thing was capable of, but with it being so close to the tower, with some effort it could get in. He shot two lightning bolts into the sky, focussing for a moment to form a message for the Sylphs to read, before chasing after Gin.

Message

He chased her into the trees, fully aware that she was trying to use it as cover. Nickle hated doing this, but he needed to slow Gin down at whatever cost. He gathered his power, letting it accumulate as he chased the slime, before jumping forwards and slamming his fist down upon landing, sending out a curved wall of electricity in front of him. Several if not all the leaves were blown off of the trees that were caught in the blast range. Nickle just hoped he'd managed to hit the bloody slime girl.

Gin could hear the crackle and boom of something going off into the sky, but hardly gave enough thought to check. Partly because the slime didn't want to see arcs of lightening coming down like mortar fire as it assumed would be the case for anything with that kind of power. Many meters out into the thickest parts of foliage, Gin began to curve it's sprint; slowly doubling back in an effort to circumvent the rude fellow and sneak on into that castle. That place, the familiar silhouette that flashed in the slimes memories. Then came the roar, a grumble that grew louder into cacophony; the sheer force that preceded Nickle's wall pressed the slime through branches and creeping roots.

The devastation was impressive. With the forest overgrowth ripped bear by Nickle's advance, it made for a scarce hiding place. Birds and other animals shot from the area, either blow away by the thunderous wall of raw energy, or desperate to escape the forest splitting wave. Gin had figured the stranger was going to resort to move lightening bolts, not dividing forest floor with a display of biblical force. The slime was splattered across the now totally wrecked boughs of an oak tree, torn from it's deep roots by the wave of power.
Ugh. And I liked that form too... was all that gurgled from the slime. Gin's ability to vocalize was inherent in it's magical form, but with no mouth to simulate a voice it sort of just came from all of the slime at once; even if it was drowned out by the sounds of animals running for their lives and trees crashing as they settled in the wake of Nickle's attack.

Then, something strange occurred to Gin. In that that chaos, the wall had caught it, just at the very edge. A second more, just a hint of speed, and Gin would have actually dodged it. That...thing...whatever it was just touched Gin's lower leg; and the result was the mess that now dripped from the trees and branches. No matter how much Gin tried, it wasn't quite able to reform just yet. It was just sort of, well, tingling. The energy had run right on through the slime, acting like any liquid would for electricity. It seemed strange but Nickle had destabilized the slime's form; but this evidently hadn't killed it. It hurt that was certain; or it felt weird at the very least. Gin had no president for the sensation of temporary paralysis called 'pins and needles.'

Nickle continued his pursuit of this unknown creature, this shapeshifter of sorts. He was beginning to think that perhaps he'd need to speak to Hiro about perhaps using his magic to form some kind of cloaking field around the castle to make it lest detectable. If something as random as this thing could locate the castle, even if it hadn't made it inside yet, it could present a problem in the future. The aftermath of his electrical attack crunched under his boots as he ran through the somewhat ruined forest, attempting to spot the beast.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile back at the castle, the Sylphs had indeed spotted Nickle's message, along with several of the lighting aeons sensing the instructors distress signal. Ramuh had already fetched the young man's blade, bringing it to the front door of the Lightning tower for the Sylphs to take. The tiny fairies were doing their best to carry the blade, but even with 10 of them holding it it was difficult. Ramuh sighed, shaking his head, "My bones are too old for this...alritght girls give me a moment while I just get ready for this little excursion." said the old bearded aeon, taking the sword from the Sylphs and holding it.

When the smaller aeons backed up far enough, Ramuh began to surge with electrical power, his long white hair and beard flying out in all directions while his eyes surged with golden electricity as he began pinpointing Nickle's location.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Nickle had eventually caught up to Gin, watching to see that his attack had had some effect, apparantly having made it harder for the thing to keep its form. "If you want to form a mouth and explain yourself then you'd better do it now, because in a couple of seconds your going to be nothing more thanresidue at the bottom of a test tube." said the electromancer, raising both his hands and keeping them primed on Gin, even in its disformed state.

Gin let out what could be called a frustrated gurgle. With it's splattered pieces slowly starting to come alive and worm their slow way towards the epicentre of the mess, the slime had no choice but to give into Nickle's demands.
"I'm fine without a mouth thanks. It might be...creepy" It continued to speak to him as a disembodied voice, "I tried talking to humans as a wall mounted mouth before. They just run off screaming."

It gave a sound like someone clearing their throat, though it did nothing for the phlegm sounding roll of the distinctly girlish voice.
"I'm looking for where I came from. I just sort of am, and thats fine by me. I rather like being me." The tiny droplets of bright lime gunk had started their slow consolidation, meeting each other like a backwards flow of honey, smaller pieces joyfully rendering themselves to their larger siblings on their slither towards reconstruction. It wasn't the fastest regeneration, and far from threatening.
"I was doing my thang in town when I saw your castle. At least, the shape of it. In my...uh...my mind I guess. Like a flash. It felt so," At this point Gin stopped, struggling to grasp what word would explain it's situation best. Not succeeding it had to settle, "It felt like a home I use to have." It's voice grew a little solemn. Well, beneath that rippling gurgle.

Nickle's hands stayed up, electrical current coursing beneath them as the slime spoke to him. So it could talk regardless of a mouth then? Perhaps it was able to manipulate sound by simply making it reverberate within itself in such a way that it formed a voice and words. It would explain how it was able to mimic his voice before. He stayed silent, still waiting for its explanation and was careful to keep an eye on how the thing was reforming itself. And then it told him the story, or at least a part of it.

Was this thing born in some mad scientists laboratory? Nickle's mind immediately thought of Lillian and how this thing could have been a leftover of her lab. However she wasn't one to be flamboyant enough to have a lab in a castle, she'd always preffered the secrecy of the subterrainian. With that thought gone, Nickle was pretty clueless as to where the thing came from. "Sorry to tell yah, but this castle isn't your home. I've been here well over 4 years now and I've never seen anything remotely like you here or anyone who could give birth to something like you."

Nickle then smiled, "Besides, we've only recently given this place a remodel, it used to just be a single tower before it was a castle, so like I said, definately not your home."
Nickle then brought his hands together, forming an orb of lightning and letting it float above the palm of his hand as he aimed it at Gin.

"I'm sorry that you didn't find your home, but I'm going to kindly ask you to leave now, because aside from you trespassing, you're starting to creep me out."

------------------------------------------------------------

The Sylphs were moving with.....a drastically decreased speed, of course that was because it had taken a team of them to fly to where Nickle was to deliver Kaneryuu. They were almost at the clearing, their wings and arms protesting at carrying the massive sword, even more massive when compared to their spritely forms.

Gin noticed the hovering Sylphs over Nickle's shoulder. They weren't hard to spot now that he's cleared most of the forest away. Nor was it hard to figure out the sword they were carrying wasn't for show. Gin felt something odd then. It was like a pull on it's pieces. As if they were heavier then before.

"Hey, could you give me a second to put myself back together here? That lightening smarts." A gooey hand waved at Nickle from the collective mass that had begun to form at the base of the over turned tree, and a vaguely person shaped blob was becoming more and more apparent in the muck. Oddly, as the slime moved it gathered up the dirt and ash around it; something Gin felt very strange. It could choose how sticky to be, and right now getting soil in itself wasn't helping the regenerative process.

"So wait, you've only just built this place? There aren't any other towers? I saw lots of towers in my memory..." Gin gurgles a bit in thought. It was able to keep a vaguely human upper body solid while it spoke to Nickle, pieces still dripping from it as a slimy mouth formed. "...OK, so maybe this isn't my home. But... would you indulge me for a second?" It held up the only arm that had formed so far, still in a half slime state. "Would you mind shooting my arm off again?" Gin tilted it's lime green head inquisitively. "Nothing big of course! I just want to see something." It hawked up some dirt, spitting it off to the side before realizing it was being crass and gave the electromancer a bright melting smile.

A loud whistle was heard from above and Nickle looked up to see the Sylphs had finally arrived with Kaneryuu. The sprites dropped the blade, letting it spin towards the earth. With a thudding shhk the blade impaled itself upon the ground just behind Nickle. The man turned around and retrieved the blade, its familiar, heavy weight being somewhat of a security blanket to him. With deft ease, he lifted the blade and swung it into the air and onto his back, sending several chunks of earth flying as he did so, before turning back to Gin. "I suppose I could give you some time to piece yourself together, so long as you don't try anything."

Nickle rested one hand on his hip and while the other checked the leather strap that held Kaneryuu in place, adusting it slightly so it fitted more easily. He watched as the slime started to reform itself, removing hunks of dirt and gravel as it did so. It look rather well....disgusting....

"We used to only have one tower, but the castle does look a bit like medieval constructs from Europe I suppose," It was true, even the old tower didn't exactly look Japanese in the way it was built. "Perhaps your old home isn't even in this country?" It was just a notion at any rate. Nickle raised his eyebrow when the slime asked if it would indulge him for a second, asking if it could have its arm shot off.

Nickle was cautious. He had been in situations like this before, some of them good, some of them bad. Right now he was conversing with a confused slime that was hocking up dirt loogies and reforming itself. He slowly raised a hand and made a gun shape, aiming it for Gin's arm, lightning coursing through his sword and body and then finally to his finger, "Before I shoot, what is it exactly that you want to see?"

In the time it took for Nickle to turn and claim his blade, that same girlish face had started to form over Gin's makeshift head. Wobbling slightly, it seemed as if the slime was having trouble keeping it's shapes. It hardly had all it's pieces, and not even before Nickle had finished postulating on the thing's origins had the facial structure began to collapse in upon itself. Then, Gin experienced something rather unique to it's short life span. It had a flash back.

A visible tremor rippled over the slime, even through the larger chucks as yet to rejoin with the main mass. There was a flicker of images over Gin's vision. Something like a memory, it's experience with earlier recollections being something foreign. For much of it's younger life, Gin had been less a creature and more a collection of tiny things. A hive that survived simply to consume and grow. The twitches where erratic but hardly threatening to look at.

Then it was gone. The ripples over each tiny slimes surface receded, and Gin shook it's head back to the image of the young, dark haired girl from before; although still attached to a lime green, still reforming body.
"Aaaah. Wait what?" The slime looked at it's still high held hand, suddenly snapping back to reality.
"Oh sorry. Well I'm sticking to all this dirt. I can usually control that sort of thing, but not here. So I wanted to see if it happens more or less if you used more of that lightening of your's. Could just be static, but...well...I've got a hunch." More pieces had formed over to the main mass now, slowly incorporating themselves with the body that was taking shape.
"You might be right about me not belonging here. This might prove it." The slime nodded, as colour and form began to flourish over it's new body.

The sight that was unfolding before Nickle was....met with mixed feelings. On one hand Nickle was glad he no longer had to look at a giant morphous booger, on the other hand he was now looking at a girl that whose lower half was a green mulsh. Nickle's eyes never left sight of the main body, but he could feel small pieces of it creeping closer to rejoin it due to his invisible field of electrons. While the field gave away his position at times, it also allowed him to detect and sense things within a given area.

Nickle kept his finger trained on Gin, ensuring that his aim wouldn't take her entire arm off. "Hmm, possibly you may be right. I've never had to shock slime before, but maybe the kind of spasm your body experiences when it comes into contact with lightning." Nickle would indudlge the creature a bit more. Now that he had it in his sights and it wasn't going anywhere, he had nothing to worry about.

A single 'bullet' of lightning left his finger tip as he cocked it, flying through the arm area Gin ask to be shot, taking off the creatures hand with ease before exploding in a small burst of static some distance away.

"Satisfied?"
