"No it's no trouble at all," Hiro spoke happily to the customer that had just thanked him for helping them find a particular book, "Please stop by anytime." With their leave Eldritch Influence was empty once more. It had been a slow day, but to be honest Hiro didn't mind it. He had kept up a cheery face to customers all day today, but inside he was filled with worry. The sun had just finished setting outside and he knew that tonight was their last night. This time tomorrow Arcadia would be preparing to leave on their raid of Ry'leh.

Would they be ready? Hiro couldn't be sure, but he was less worried about his students and those in Fire Division; his contingency plan was already in place. If anyone had followed the events of his day under any level of detail they might note the peculiar behavior. Immediately after school he visited Alexia at the orphanage she was staying at for an hour or two and then met his sister taking her out to eat at a nice restaurant. Finally, he checked in at Eldritch Influence giving everyone else the night off and declaring to wrap up the day himself. Now there was just one more thing. He had already called Hina and asked her to come by near closing time.

"What am I really going to say to her?" he questioned to himself with a frustrated sigh as he leaned on the front counter. It's not like he owed her any explanation about what was going on; they were simply co-workers and more recently friends. However, Hiro couldn't deny there was an attraction there and one that seemed mutual. Feeling this way it seemed rude on his part to not see her one final time; if things go that way in any case.

Hinata was sitting in her apartment, or rather, pacing back and forth in her apartment while glancing at the clock every so often. She even ended up peeking through her windows, her gaze set on the building on the other side of the street and Eldritch Influence. The call from Tsukasa-sensei has been simple and short, he had even sounded normal, but there was still something about it that made the young nurse feel anxious. Call it female intuition or maybe even something similar to a mother's instinct, because just like some mothers can tell when their child is being dishonest and concealing something Hina could feel that the professor was keeping something from her. “Or you are just being paranoid,” she sighed and let the curtains fall back on place before glancing at the watch for the third time within the same minute.

Finally after fifteen painstakingly slow minutes Hinata made herself ready to leave. She grabbed a shawl and swept it over her shoulders, covering her powder pink semi-transparent blouse with a black neck bow and made her way to the door, locking it behind her. She had been too anxious to change out of the clothes she had worn at work and if it wasn’t for the tight fitted black pencil skirt Hina probably would have jogged to the other side of the street and to the bookstore. Instead her matching black heels were clicking against the pavement in a fast pace until she finally reached Eldritch Influence.

Pushing the door open and scanning the seemingly empty store Hinata’s heart made a somersault at the sight of Hiro behind the counter. Closing the door behind her only the slow tapping of her shoes announced that she was walking towards him, a smile slowly spreading across her face as she advanced closer. “Hiro.” She sounded almost breathless as she said his name.

"Hina-chan," Hiro declared excitedly as she entered the book store, "Thank you for coming." In that first moment a part of him wanted to come clear right away. To tell Hina about the danger he would be facing tomorrow and he might not return. But was it fair to put someone you had only recently friends with through such drama? Still, regardless, if this were his last night then he knew he wanted to spend that time with her.

"I know it's kind of last minute," he continued with a friendly grin, "But I was hoping we could go out to dinner. Or maybe... if you're not really up for that then I could just cook for us here." He'd find a way to bring it up eventually. There really was no point worrying about it right now. He should enjoy what was potentially his final night.

"Well I mean," Hiro added nervously realizing how odd that might have sounded, "Not here. Upstairs in my apartment is what I meant..." If Hina could read people at all he was sure she'd notice how uneasy he was. It couldn't be helped. If only for a moment he had seen the thing Arcadia would be facing alongside Lavender during the battle in Sunshine 60. Even a glimpse had almost been too much to bear. Now he was sending off his own students and friends to face it head on.

Hinata smiled at Hiro, genuinely happy to see him. He was like a magnet and she felt herself constantly drawn to him, unable to stop herself and fight that attraction. Even her mind was often occupied by him, like he had found a place to permanently root himself and wasn’t thinking of ever letting go. But this wasn’t very surprising since Hina knew very well that she was attracted to the handsome professor, she wasn’t a teenager confused by new emotions and urges after all. Deciding how to act upon these feelings was, on the other hand, a completely different issue…

“It’s no problem at all. If you hadn’t called I would probably still be at the school going through some paperwork. Being here with you is the more favorable option.” She looked at him with a soft smile and her eyes expressed the surprise and delight she felt by his request. Is he asking me out on a date? Hina asked herself feeling her excitement grow. “A dinner out sounds lovely,” she started with a happy tone, “but… I think a dinner here, with just the two of us, would be much better.”

She eyed Hiro cautiously, knowing that her intuition had been correct; there was something that the teacher was keeping away from her. His voice seemed strained somehow and his smile didn’t really feel… honest? Hinata couldn’t help but worry and wonder what was wrong so choosing to have dinner at his apartment had also been a strategic move. A move she would have chosen from the start no less even if everything had been perfectly fine.

Gazing up at the roof, and where she assumed Hiro’s apartment was, she looked back at Hiro and asked with a helpful voice, “Shall we? Do you want me to help you lock up?”

"Your wish is my command," Hiro answered jokingly as Hinata made her pick between the two choices. Stepping out from the front counter he began to walk towards the front door, key in hand, to lock up for the night. Technically they had a few more minutes, but the day had been so slow he had serious doubts about any last minute customers.

"Nah, it's fine," Hiro answered Hina's question, "Locking up here is easy. Come on, we can get to my apartment through the stairwell in the back room." Pocketing the key he stepped around Hina and motioned for her to follow guiding her towards the back room. This area, besides holding the secret entrance to Arcadia's HQ, was also where he kept the items of legitimate supernatural value unlike what was sold out front.

Upon entering Hina would seem what appeared to be a rather cluttered storage room. Old books and strange objects seemed to be stacked all around with a clear path leading towards the stairwell in the back. "Pardon the mess," Hiro spoke apologetically, "This is where I store stuff that doesn't need to be on display out front or overstock."

Hinata waited where she stood until Hiro finished locking the front of the store and then returned to her, gesturing towards the back and where the stairwell would be found. She followed him, walking a few steps behind, into the back room and was met by quite a messy sight. The room needed to be sorted through and properly organized. Hina actually had a little hard time seeing the difference between the items he was selling and things that had simply found their way to the back when no longer of use.

“Oh, it’s fine, although I have to admit that I’m thankful we won’t be eating down here,” she smiled while stepping over a pile of books that had fallen down on the cleared pathway. Though the figure-hugging pencil skirt made that move hard and she accidentally stepped on a book, making her trip forward. Hina quickly stretched out an arm and supported herself against a shelf, straightening up and looking behind her. “I’m sorry,” she said apologetically to Hiro, “I accidentally stepped on a book…” Feeling a little worried over that she might have destroyed something of value Hinata bend down to pick it up and examine if any damage had been done.

“I think it looks fine,” she said and turned around, handing the professor the book so that he could take a look for himself.

"Yeah," Hiro admitted sheepishly, "I've been trying to get a handle on it, but I'm so busy it never really works out. It's not a task I can entrust to my student workers either." This was, of course, because much of what was back here held actual supernatural powers and in the wrong hands or with some accidental guidance to awaken them could be potentially dangerous. However, he knew it was best to avoid letting Hina on to that.

As she tripped over a book he gasped and began to move forward but stopped with relief as she caught herself. "No no," Hiro spoke as she apologized, "I should be apologizing. I thought I cleared things up more but it seems I forgot a few stray books." As Hina handed him the book he inspected it for a moment before his eyes grew wide.

"Ahah," he laughed nervously, "Let's just sit this over here..." His words trailed off as he shelved the book onto one of the many dusty bookshelves lining the walls and then quickly escorted Hinata on and up the stairs opening the door for her to enter his apartment. It was of utmost importance that he didn't let her open and examine the book. It was the french edition of the King in Yellow play. He was sure she'd never forgive him for losing all her sanity; not that she'd be in her right mind enough to hold a grudge at that point.

"Welcome to my home~" Hiro spoke cheerfully. As Hina entered she would find it seemed much larger and lavish than the second floor of the building looked from the outside. In fact, it seemed impossibly too big to fit in the space that was allotted...

Hinata felt relieved over that Hiro deemed the book fine and shelved it. Though, suddenly it felt like he was a very eager to get her up to his apartment and she was quickly ushered up the stairs and to the front door of his home. She laughed softly at his behavior before slowly stepping into his apartment, eyes wide and scanning over everything she could see. It was big. It was actually really big. Even bigger than hers! Hhmm… Funny how it looks very much larger compared to the space bellow… Is it the furnishing that makes it look like this?

Hinata took a few hesitant steps forward, entering the apartment properly while her head constantly turned from side to side, admiring Hiro’s home. “It is a lovely apartment, Hiro-sensei!” her eyes swooped over the area once more, "It feels very homey and warm… You must have spent a lot of time personalizing it.” Hina smiled broadly at her companion, happy that she had decided for a dinner ‘tete-a-tete’. This was much more pleasant compared to a restaurant filled with strangers.

“How about you take me on the grand tour?” she asked him with an amused expression, "It looks quite larger compared to the outside."

"Aha," Hiro laughed as Hina pointed out the obvious paradox regarding his apartment, "Let's just say I got a little creative with my Magic. But sure... let's see... we're in the living room right now and as you can see over there on the far side is the kitchen..." Hiro pointed out the kitchen which was openly connected to the living room only really divided by a long counter in a L-shape seemingly acting as a divider of sorts. Smiling happily and trying to mimic the tour-guide tone Hina herself had used in her apartment he then led her towards the far side of the living room.

"This door is my sister's room," Hiro pointed out, "I believe she's actually been staying on campus recently, but since we're the only family each other has I want her to always have a place here. And over here is my bed room~" Hiro walked on to the next door and opened it giving Hina a peek in. It was equally as lavish as the living room despite a bookshelf near the bed which seemed to hold a lot of random trinkets with no clear value. In truth these were mementos of Hiro's own past.

"And what else," Hiro mumbled as he walked on to a door on the other side of the living room, "Oh and then there's this..." Opening the door Hiro revealed that it entered into what seemed to be a private study of sorts. However, tall bookshelves lined the walls on all sides of the vast room filled to the brim with books; it seemed almost like a tiny library.

“Aaaaaaah~ Magic,” Hinata smiled with sudden realization and added laughingly, “How convenient!” So it hadn’t been a talented interior decorator who had made the space look larger, it had literally become larger but with the help of magic.

Happily the young nurse followed the teacher around the apartment after dropping off her scarf on the couch. She glanced at the first door he pointed at and said with a mixture of interest and surprise “Oh, I didn’t know you had a sister. Is she a student at the school?” Hina wanted to hear more about Hiro and his life but was a little saddened to learn from the way he spoke that his parents were dead, and they probably didn’t have any other close relatives.

She followed him to the next door and only quickly peeked into his bedroom before looking away. For some reason it felt very intimate to be in the room where he slept and she felt heat rise to her cheeks. When she had given him a tour of her own apartment showing him her bedroom had been no problem, probably because it had been a complete mess and that she hadn’t even slept there yet, but here where Hiro probably slept every night was different and personal. Though she couldn’t help wondering if he was alone during those nights or if he had someone special with him; Hina hadn’t mustered up the courage to ask him about his social status yet…

When Hiro walked to the other side of the living room Hinata hurried after him, she had been a little distracted by her thoughts, but as she entered what looked like a personal library she was full of admiration. “Oh, Hiro!” the nurse exclaimed while slowly spinning around to get a good look around the room. She beamed at him “This is fantastic!” Hina had always enjoyed reading and seeing such a large personal collection impressed her. She approached one of the bookshelf walls, glancing at the titles and couldn’t help lightly brushing her fingertips along the spine of some as she walked by to look at the next shelf.

"It's nothing special," Hiro commented a bit shyly since to him his apartment was really nothing unique or that great. Comparatively, Arcadia's own Scryptorium was far larger but of course Hina couldn't know about that for the time being. Guiding Hina back into the living room Hiro picked back up on her question.

"My sister," he began, "Her name's Milfeulle; she goes to Hyakuji so you'll probably meet her at some point. We were separated when our parents died. She had only just been born and I was really young.... but I guess it's funny how things worked out. She ended up being sent to Hyakuji after I was already teaching here and we were reunited." Truth be told they had not spoken as often since the incident with Wo-Shing, but Hiro refused to back down on his position. He had seen first hand what the organization had done to students at the school... and of course Ai... there was no way he'd allow her to be a part of something like that.

"So if you could have me fix anything at all for dinner," Hiro suddenly spoke up switching to a more cheerful point of conversation, "What would it be? Challenge me~" He added this final sentiment with a playful grin. He had been alone most of his adult life and that meant cooking for himself. While Milfuelle lived with him he was cooking for two as well so it wasn't a point he bragged on often, but he had become quite the skilled cook.

Following Hiro back to the living room area she silently listened as he told her about his sister and their reunion. That made the young nurse very happy to hear. “I’m very glad to hear that you were reunited again,” she said earnestly looking directly at the teacher, “you could have gone through half your life without meeting her again but instead got a much happier outcome compared to many others.”

When the subject got changed to the reason why the two of them were alone up in his apartment Hinata laughed, “If I wanted to challenge you and test your skills Hiro-sensei I would request a five course dinner, but I think just a main course and dessert is more than enough.” Although she wasn’t sure why she was the one who got to chose what their meal was going to be, wasn’t that dependant on what ingredients he had at home? Hina voiced her puzzlement with a joke, “Are you sure that I can say whatever dish I want and you will have the ingredients? Did you end up with the whole grocery store in your shopping bag today?”

Still, she had to decide what they would eat. Tapping a thoughtful finger on her chin Hinata’s mind ran through several dishes. She was actually a traditional girl, preferring Japanese cuisine, although she didn’t mind foreign foods at all. But she didn’t know what area of cooking Hiro was skilled in, was he familiar with Japanese cooking? He should be after living her for a few years... Well, if he doesn’t know it will be a challenge, just like he wanted. “I would love to have some nabe for dinner, it’s been a while, but I’ll let you decide what we’ll have for dessert.” The nurse looked up at Hiro with a pleased smile, “Does that sound good to you?”

"Hrm," Hiro pondered for a moment as Hina presented her challenge, "Certainly not an area I have a lot of expertise with but I'll take on that task. Just hope you're not super hungry as this definitely won't be 'fast food' ya know." He laughed cheerfully as he moved into the kitchen and began getting out various supplies including a rather large, but shallow, iron pot. He was not so worried about ingredients. He had just recently stocked up on things, but worst case scenario he could fall back on his magic. However, luckily, Hina's choice was easily accomplished just with what was available.

"I really appreciate you taking the time to come over," Hiro added with a cheerful tone as he got out some beef and using a large knife began to slice it up into very thin strips. It was his last chance to spend time with Hina. This wasn't set in stone, but until Arcadia's business was settled tomorrow he felt like he had to believe this way. It was important, even more so now, to live with no regrets.

"Have you gotten used to being on the faculty at Hyakuji High?" he questioned with just a hint of laughter. He was quite certain that being on the staff at Hyakuji was unlike anywhere else in the world. Even for a local, like Hina, being over the students was certainly a whole different story from attending the school.

Hinata was glad that Hiro took the challenge and followed him to the kitchen, she wasn’t really dressed for cooking food but she didn’t really notice that and if she would then it still wouldn’t have bothered her. Looking around for an apron she found one tossed on the side of the counter. She put it on and tied a knot at the back while watching Hiro take out all the ingredients and slicing up the meat before she joined him by his side. Taking the vegetables he had prepared and rinsing them Hina started to slice and cut the carrots into flowers, stars and hearts, like she had done since being a child and helping her mother cook.

“You don’t need to thank me I’m happy to be here,” Hinata replied with a smile as she glanced at Hiro before resuming her work, “And working at the school has been quite an experience so far! They are all amazing students and I get equally impressed by their talents and abilities.” She cuts out a carrot flower and then ads, “Though, I would be lying if I said that they don’t worry me sometimes, or maybe I should say most of the times,” she sighs as she continues and stares down at the vegetables in front of her,”many of them carry such large responsibilities and heavy burdens that I wish that I could carry them instead. It’s hard to imagine how teens are able to handle such issues and it pains me to hear about the things they’ve had to do and been through and I wish there was more for me to do.”

Hina shaker head in an attempt to clear her head and rubs the back of her hand against her forehead before turning to Hiro with a weak smile, “Gomenasai, you asked me a simple question and I turned it into a complaint and a worrisome subject.”

"Hey," Hiro laughed as Hina put on the apron, "You're not supposed to be helping. Though you do look cute so I guess I'll let it slide just this once." Laughing, he stuck his tongue out at his co-worker and continued working on preparing the beef stopping only momentary to begin prepping soba noodles on the side as well. Meanwhile, he listened attentively as Hina discussed her first few days on the job.

"No," he professed as she tried to downplay what she had said, "It's good to talk about stuff like that. I won't lie.. I worry a lot about the students too. I guess I have just had longer to deal with it so I've come more to terms about the matter. I have a lot of faith in our students." Even though I too am burdening them with responsibilities through Arcadia, Hiro thought to himself as he sighed.

Finishing with the beef, Hiro turned to the side and flicked a knob as he began to heat the iron pot. Slowly, he began to carefully place the strips of beef into the pot on one side and finishing this began to add soba noodles leaving ample space for Hina to put in the vegetables when done.

"So have you had Sukiyaki often?" Hiro questioned curiously as the duo worked together preparing the meal, "I'm just curious why you picked nabe, aha~"
