Miyuki caught her hand as she fell, and quickly pulled her back towards her with a firm tug, nearly falling back in the process.

"Ugh, see, you can't even stand up you idiot." she groused "...Well, I suppose it can't be helped."

Her face drooped into a frown, and bent down to pick up her hat, and dusted it off. As she rose up, in one swift motion, she quickly settled it back onto her head and lifted up Kotoko like a princess as she got up.

"Honestly, you're such trouble sometimes."

"Well a stupid princess is usually partnered with a stupid knight!" Kotoko whned, sticking her tongue out at Miyuki as once more she was being carried against her will. Still though, her limbs were dead weight so this time around the larger woman didn't even bother struggling and instead looked rather meek, still a little uncomfortable about being this close after what she did tonight.

"Though I guess its nothing but stupidity binding us at this point." And with what little strength she had, she moved up to give Miyuki a quick peck on the cheek. "Sorry you have to be chained down by such a useless wife."

"You're the only person who'd even consider to think of me as a knight." she said indignantly, dropping Kotoko off on the bed.

She took a deep breath, and unbuttoned her shirt so she could check her injury in the mirror, at this point not paying attention to the idiot behind her.

The bandage seemed intact at least.

That meant the wound hadn't opened. There was some bruising, but that was the extent of it. At least on the outside. She understood the damage caused by such a thing was mainly internal.

Probably a few bruised ribs, but they didn't feel broken at least.

There was a sigh of relief as she checked to make sure. Contrasting with the rest of the surprisingly smooth skin, the scar where she'd been pierced by the claw was a bumpy, granular lump that didn't seem to belong.

It still hurt somewhat, but not sufficiently so to hinder her anymore, and she'd insisted on returning to duty immediately. It was abit of a wonder she didn't bear more such scars considering her life, but she'd obviously had the others taken care of.

Her fingers traced along the edges, a look of disapproval and disgust on her face as she did so.

"It's good that it didn't open up again, at least." she said, grimacing.

"Sorry."

There wasn't much for Kotoko to say, she was at fault for making this day go horribly wrong anyway, And as such, she figured the best way to get everything over with was apologize (even though there was no way to properly do so for everything right now) and try and end it, in her case, by hiding under the sheets and trying to sleep it away.

Of course, hide as well as she could, her stomach betrayed her and made a loud noise that echoed throughout the room...

"Don't be an idiot and try to hide fro-..."

The sound of growling interrupted her words, resulting in a faint smirk.

The stomach contractions that caused such noise actually happened all the time, but when the stomach was empty and one was hungry, the noise grew louder from the air filling up space being compressed and pushed about.

However, the greatest irony and betrayal, was that the thought and attempt of suppressing the noise when amongst others... caused the stomach to tense up and become even more active, making it even louder.

"...to hide from problems." she finished, shaking her head lightly "I suppose it can't be helped this time huh?"

She quickly buttoned up the shirt partway and started walking to the door

"Well, you haven't eaten yet right? I haven't either, so I'll go prepare dinner." she sighed. Although sounding exasperated, the faint smirk revealed a certain playfulness regarding it.

"Curry! Preferably pork!"

Even when embarrassed, Kotoko made a demand, but didn't say anything other than that. She was in fact hungry...so she didn't complain or make excuses. She just remained under the sheets and waited for Miyuki to come back with food. In short, Kotoko was too tired and hungry to complain anymore. Though, she did try to throw a pillow at Miyuki for laughing like that.

"Then, curry it shall be."

There was abit of happiness in little things like this. In a way, it felt sinful to even have it, but she didn't complain. You cant be serious all the time, you'd go mad from it. Little breaks here and there to keep you sane are important. It's pointless to force a duty now but be unable to fulfill it later afterall.

Hadn't she told someone that once?

"But... Kouta, please tell me one thing." A pause, as if in hesitation "...Ah, nevermind. It can wait until dinner."

And without further delay, she exited the room to prepare their meal.

...

When she put it off like that...Kotoko could tell it was at least important. But...at the same time, her body refused to cooperate. It wasn't because she was physically drained right now but...truth be told she was still a little scared. In the end...all Kotoko was...all she existed for...she was all of Kouta's insecurities. When one half put on a brave face and charged forth without worry...

Kotoko was the one who would react more humanly. By all means she shouldn't be fighting anymore...more so when she lives with such a carefree attitude. And for that...she was scared. This was all the duo that formed Kuuga knew. This life was all they acknowledged and all they enjoyed.

Losing it...was the scariest thing in the world.

And that was why she remained silent and didn't answer, hiding from the world as pathetically one could, hiding under the sheets and hoping for something good to happen...

Pork Curry huh? She thought. How typical of him really.

She grinned as she put on the apron with a flourish, and proceeded immediately to work. Cooking afterall, was the one thing she could do normally. No, it may have been the one 'normal' skill she excelled at that wasn't for any battlefield purpose.

First the rice in the cooker. Normally, she'd prefer to cook it herself, but she didn't want to be distracted at a crucial moment when preparing the curry itself.

Then, A kilo of pork, freshly washed and with the skin removed, cut into medium sized pieces, with a dash of salt and a turmeric. Red chili powder, black pepper, coriander powder, turmeric powder, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom and cumin were ground together, while the pork was cooked in a pressure cooker.

What was being prepared was what was called a Masala, a mix of spices that were used as the base for a dish's flavour, and a staple of Indian cuisine. It was obvious that this was not going to be a typical Japanese curry.

She heated some oil in a pan.

Two fresh onions were chopped and diced, joined by a few cloves of garlic and some finely chopped ginger to form the base, sauteed until golden brown over high heat.

The flame was then lowered, as she quickly added the ground mix into the pan. Another pinch of salt was added, and some fresh tomatoes were cut up and joined the masala.

10 minutes later, the pork was added, along with a dash of vinegar, soy sauce, a cube of chicken bullion, and a cup of of water.

The smell of the broth filled the air as she stirred the mix, continuing until the pork was completely soaked and covered. Then, finally, the most important part, the curry leaves were added and thoroughly mixed.

She smiled to herself as she tested the result.

It was abit on the strong-spicy side, but she preferred her food that way, though she had enough sense not to mix in her more preferred ingredients. She'd gotten an earful over that time she served 800,000 scoville tofu at Kazuna's adoption party.

Satisfied, a serving was poured carefully over white rice, and carefully garnished with Coriander leaves. For once, she'd actually spoil Kotoko, she thought, getting a tray and putting two dishes on it.

With a faint smirk, she took the food to their room.

Kotoko remained hidden under the sheets for now, not really wanting to face Miyuki just yet. Even though she could smell the food right about now...she was still rather afraid to come out. The weakness Kouta always tried to hide...that's what the female form always represented. She didn't really mean any harm from it...but right now she wasn't even sure if she had been forgiven yet. To that extent...it's why you had to spoil her so often.

Emotionally stunted, and often vulnerable. The true meaning behind "Kotoko Azuma."

"Are you getting out from under there or what?."

Miyuki had set the trays on the desk they shared, and was now sipping a cup of tea, casually sitting cross legged on her usual swivel chair. With a frank voice, she merely stated the obvious. She was obviously back to her usual, irreverent self.

"The food isn't going to wait for you you know."

Kotoko crawled out of bed once Miyuki called for her but...remained wrapped up in the sheets like some little kid. Well...it was a start at least but it was clear she was a little worried as she sat down at her spot of the desk, though not really touching her food just yet. Instead...Kotoko just wanted to get the hard part out of the way as she spoke up rather meekly, not actually looking out from her impromptu cloak.

"What...did you want to ask me before."

Kotoko was the type of person show couldn't eat and enjoy a meal if something was bugging her. It was such a childish thing but that's what made her who she was...

"Are you seriously going to try to keep up with me while hiding under a blanket like that?" Miyuki asked incredulously, and then sighed again "Look, if you're going to insist I don't coddle you that's fine, but you had better live up to expectations you know."

After giving a mildly displeased look, she waved it off as she set the teacup on the able, proceeding to cross her arms.

It could wait. For now at least.

"Well, whatever. You'll just have to prove yourself along the way. That's how trust works, and I can't say today was very stellar for that with your emotions."

Her eyes moved, narrowed and transfixed themselves on Kotoko

"But... the question I wanted to ask, is one I gave you before. I accepted a vague answer on a whim then, but I won't take it now. Why do you even care enough to want to be around me? Technically you're a subordinate, but this is beyond that. Tonight's incident notwithstanding, though I didn't want you to throw away your life immediately after I went through the trouble of saving it. But if this is your complaint, you must have a reason."

As she spoke, her eyes seemed to be watching every movement like a squirrel attending a nut. With honesty, with diligence, and especially, with sharpness.

"Sorry...just right now...I want to act like the spoiled kid for now...I just...don't want to face the world like I am right now...I'll be fine tomorrow..." Kotoko just...apologized. Like Miyuki...Kouta and Kotoko built their outward appearances on a mask, though unlike their partner, it was easier to break in this regard. This was because it was built for a different purpose...in the end, Kouta was just a person who tried too hard to find someplace he could call his own, a place where he could be...appreciated for all the work he put in. It was a pathetic goal in the end, really.

But all he needed was rest...he'd be able to wake up and put up his facade and pretend nothing happened. He'd go back to being the idiot everyone saw him as, and just continue to search for something to satisfy the emptiness he often felt.

"Truth be told...it's because you were the first person who actually tried to help me..." it was such...a simple reason. "You're the only one who helped me get back to my feet rather than wait for me to get up on my own because that's what an idiot does." without her barriers...Kotoko lacked so much confidence, and easily took jabs at herself whenever she could.

"And for that...I respected you, someone who tried to understand me and saw that the hero act was a coward's cry for help." in the end...it just seemed like rambling and yet, she wasn't lying. They were Kotoko's actual feelings, and they were just...honest, yet hurt at the same time.

"At first...I wanted to repay you...but then the more time I spent with you...I found out I belonged at your side." Kotoko explained, sniffing a bit. "It was the only place I felt...whole but since I could never keep up with you....I wanted to at least try....supporting you." in the end, even though she hid her face, it was clear she was tearing up again. "You carried so much on your own...I thought I could at least carry half of it."

Listening to the explanation in silence, she couldn't help but sigh as he finished.

"I think you misunderstood my original intention. I could not simply ignore someone as miserable as you were in that state." her voice told him in an abrasive deadpan "...Honestly, I'm not even sure you realise exactly what you're saying involves."

There's a mild frown, but she shakes her head.

"Ah well, I suppose I'll accept the answer." As she took another sip of her tea, she tells him such, sounding as if it was someone else's business "As unfair as it is, I've grown attached to you, but I won't change a thing. This is the extent of the accommodation you will get. If you want to continue, all problems you might have from this arrangement are your own fault, and you're going to have to make up for them yourself. Otherwise, it will be safe to travel in the morning."

Without batting an eye, she gave him a cold sounding declaration of half admittance but continued selfishness. The traces of earlier teasing and understanding had disappeared for now. There was complete seriousness in her lack of negotiation.

Having tried what she could before, she wasn't going to extend it any further. If anything, it would be decreased. And if things didn't work out this time, then she'd let go.

"Am I clear on that?"
