The sound of the river rushing by had a calming effect. Some might find that odd, considering that the Seion River was hardly a babbling brook but a large, somewhat powerful river, capable of making a loud enough noise to be rather distracting.

Yet it was exactly that characteristic that made the river so ideal for one to think, relax and meditate. The roar of the river could make it impossible to hear anything else if you focused on it. It generated a white noise, allowing one to zone out from the world and just reflect on themselves. After all, everyone needed moments of peace, preferably in regular intervals.

Lately, Nickle had been meditating a lot more. His recent sparring match in the clouds against Lavender had proved successful in using his new pulse technique in battle and so he felt more driven to perfect it and gain a mastery over it.

However nothing came easy. It had taken him a sufficeint enough time to achieve his Storm King form training under the Rei Monks those couple years ago, but it had really been worth it. He sat now on the river bank, Kaneryuu laid down on the grass next to him, the back straps of the scabbard laying sprawled out on the slightly damp grass.

The training style they used, Kateda, relied on stillness before action. It melded ideally with electricity. Building up static charges, before discharging. Nickle was no grand master in the martial art, but that only meant he was driven to become one. Yet, one thing at a time he supposed. Small orbs of blue and white light gently orbited around Nickle as he practiced controlling his electrons. If he could control many of them, he could easily control one large orb in battle.

The wind was a bit cold, perhaps because of the river. It blew his black hair gently over his face, back and forth, but he didn't flinch over it or make a move to put it in place. He simply smiled, enjoying the feeling. It had grown quite a bit. If he left it for long enough he'd probably end up looking like Kinclex.

A bird began to sing, slightly distrubing the silence of the river.

Celestial had only been "back" for a week, after she was found in a field naked by a man that took her immediately to a hospital. When she couldn't tell them her name, or where she had been, she was admitted.

A week went by slowly, feeling like it was a whole month, but by the end of it she could tell the doctors pretty much anything about her life besides the last two years. They still wanted to keep her, but she insisted that she was to be married soon, and had to find her fiance. The doctors agreed only if she would come back in a few weeks for more testing, and she accepted instantly.

Though she knew that she had been gone for what the doctors told her as two years, she didn't feel any older. Everything around town was different, the faces were unfamiliar and she now felt distant from the whole place.

When she went back to what used to be her apartment she was surprised to find her key still worked, though her place seemed to be broken into and ransacked, though that might have happened when people first looked for her. Now it was bare, and dark, and it no longer resembled home. She sighed as she went through her clothing.

This brought her to the forest. She needed to get away from it all, to a place where no one would find her. Her mind was racing. She wanted to find Nickle, but what would she tell him? She didn't know what happened. All she knew was she was going to see Nickle with Sugar and then she was gone. When she reappeared Sugar was gone. A tear rolled down her cheek as she thought of their spunky, adorable daughter. Where was she. Then her mind drifted to Nickle. Was he still looking for her? Had he moved on? It had been two years, a lot can happen in that amount of time. She looked down at the engagement ring that had now lost its shine.

She wandered through the forest for what seemed like miles before hitting the actual river. She sat on a rock next to it and closed her eyes, feeling the mist against her skin as the river rushed by. She didn't know her next move, or how to recover. She felt as though she was stuck, with currents rushing past her. When would she be able to live again?

The bird singing hadn't really bothered Nickle at first, but more seemed to have flocked around the bird and seemed driven to break his concentration. At least at first. Nickle opened an eye and spotted a couple of them in the branches of the trees, chirpping away as birds would. However, he relaxed however, closing his eyes once again and focussing on meditating, finding inner peace within himself.

It was a funny thing, inner peace....

He was slowly learning , more and more about what it meant. Meditating in order to unlock a state of mind so heightened, so focussed, that the limitations of the mortal world could be considered trivial to those who were able to back up this state of mind with power. That was what Kateda was all about. A core, central place of power and knowledge, where one need not fear or be concerend with anything.

Nickle frowned, his breathing interrupted as he involutarily took a deep breath and exhaled.
He could perhaps achieve true inner peace, one day, but then that would mean, truely burying Celestial and Sugar. Even though the darkness had subsided and those who been taken from it had returned, Nickle couldn't accept that deep down that Celestial and Sugar were gone. Yes he had moved on, yes he loved Chizu, but.....

That doesn't mean I want Celly and Sugar to be dead....

He opened his eyes, wanting to leave meditating for now, but then he sensed....something. He closed them again, his brow wrinkling ever so slighty as he tried to regain his focus. Meditation had a rather amazing effect. Through constant concentration on one thing, when one finally released that concentration and let their mental state expand, there was this breif, ecstatic, calming moment. A oneness with the world. And in that moment, Nickle had sensed something, familiar.

He had learned to sense magic thanks to Otoha, Hinata and Celestial, but there wasn't any-

His eyes opened wide, his pupils shaking.

"It can't be."

He stood up, picking up Kaneryuu and sling it onto his back, before setting out full pace along the rivers banks. The shadows of the trees and the lines of light that broke through the forest's canopy flashed over him as he ran towards it.

Faster.

Faster.

Faster!

Nickle sped and tore his way through the underbrush, running around trees and leaping of fallen trunks and logs. He ran, his heart ready to explode out of his chest as what he sensed became stronger. He couldn't let himself believe it, not until he saw with his own eyes. And then, there were no more obsticles and he rounded one final tree, to see her atop a nearby boulder.

"Celestial..." he said, his voice little more than a whisper.

Celestial was sitting there, eyes closed, trying to force her brain into remembering where she had been, what had happened to her. She needed some closure with that, and with Sugar. As far as she knew she was unharmed, besides her memory loss. She frowned, wishing for more than a moment that whatever happened, that she was taken instead of Sugar. More tears began to flow down her cheeks as she thought of it.

She was too deep in thought to hear the rustling in the woods behind her, that most would dismiss as a galloping animal. She wondered when she would see Nickle, or if she ever would again. Maybe he had left. She couldn't even face him, not like this. Not without Sugar. She decided to try and flex her magical muscles as she sat there, hopeless. She saw Sugars smiling face in her head, and she pushed that memory outwards, hoping that it would reach someone familiar. Before she could finish her thought she heard a whisper, and as the trees rustled in the wind, she smelled a familiar scent. It couldn't be. She didn't turn around, afraid of what she would see, or who rather.

Tears were still streaming down her face as she sat there in silence, trying to think of what to say. Maybe it wasn't him. It could be his brother, Kinclex. She didn't want him to see her like this, not now.

Her sigh came out in short shallow breaths before whispering back,

"I'm sorry."

And with that she was up, and running in the opposite direction. She couldn't face him with no knowledge of where she was, or more importantly why Sugar was not with her. She ran from him as if she was running from a demon inside her. She wanted so much to turn around, to see someone familiar, to know she was safe again. But she couldn't. So she ran.

With high emotional stress her new power flared without warning, the area around her began to get colder, freezing even, and her tears turned to icicles as they dripped off her cheeks.

"Celestial stop!"

Nickle bolted after her, his mind and heart racing as fast as the lightning he used. It wasn't possible, but it was. Celestial was here, it was her he knew it. He was aware of things like spirits and demons in the forest, but none of them could replicate Celestial in so many ways. He form, her aura, her expression. It was her, she was here and she was running away. Why was she running? Was she afraid of him? Surely not. Did she know about Chizu and if so how?

As Nickle pursued her, time seemed to slow down, his footfalls feeling heavy and the leaves and twigs snapping and crunching under the soles of his boots. How long had she been back? Where had she been? Was Sugar with her? What had....happened to her? That was when Nickle saw it happen. The cold chill in the air and the expansion of ice in the area. It couldn't be? Had Celestial somehow obtained Sugar's powers? She'd never been able to control ice, and Sugar was a snow fairy. It made sense....but then that would mean that....

Nickle wouldn't let himself think any further until he spoke to Celestial. He unhitched Kaneryuu from his back, letting it fall to the ground and allowing him a short burst of speed. He reached out for her, catching her arm and pulling her close to his chest, hugging her to it as the momentum sent them both flying and rolling along the ground, but Nickle made sure to bear the brunt of it all, sheltering Celestial. He held onto her, his eyes closed for a moment before looking down at her face.

The only thing that escaped his mouth was breath, his eyes fixed on her.

Celestial was running faster and faster. Some part of her mind knew she couldn't outrun him, but she wanted to. She wanted to disappear until she figured things out. She should have left Hyakuji behind when the doctors cleared her.

When she felt him touch her arm she was lost. All control she was holding back was now gone. It would feel like the arctic around her, but as he pulled her close and tumbled to the ground he could feel her warmth.

When he looked down at her he could see her eyes closed, tears still escaping even when she tried to lock them in. She turned her head away from him, but was not fighting to get away. She felt safe, the first time since she had been back. Of course the first familiar face she would see had to be Nickle's. She just wasn't ready to look at him yet.

"I'm sorry."

She said once more, whispering it against his chest as they sat there. Frost began to form on the trees and leaves around them, followed by tiny icicles from the dripping dew. She could not control her power, but as she squinted and tried her best to stop crying, the air around them began to warm. It seemed that when she calmed, so would the power.

And she knew what Nickle would think, she had thought it herself a dozen times since she had made her first icicle. Sugar was a snow fairy. She now had ice powers. That would mean that either whatever happened had given her more power, or that her amazing daughter was now inside of her, and she absorbed her powers. Either way, that meant Sugar was gone forever, and she was not ready to accept that.

Nickle's body was shivering as he held onto her. It was unbelievable. Celestial wasn't just controlling the ice, she was affecting the area around her and lowering its temperature. The only other person Nickle had ever witness perform such a feat was Discord. He gritted his teeth to prevent them from chattering as he held onto her. She felt warm, unaffected by what she was doing. Nickle's hand gently caressed her hair as he held her close, two small streams of tears coming from his own eyes.

She was alive. Despite it all, Celestial was alive.

"It's ok Celly, it's ok. You're back, I've got you." They were the only words his mind managed to string together. His mind was chaos, wanting to know so much. He could assume so many things, but he didn't want to. Nickle was breathing slowly, and as the air began to grow less cold, he slowly sat himself and Celly up. He looked at her, a hand cupping one side of her face as he wipe away her tears.

The questions could come later, but for now, there was only one thing that came to mind amidst the frosted forest that now surrounded them, "You're home."

Celestial leaned against him as they sat up from the ground. She cautiously wrapped her arms around his waist, and for the first time since she had been back, she began to relax. She knew he would want answers now. She couldn't avoid it any longer, but she had none to give. She had one lousy memory of the past two years, and that was dark figures standing over her. She didn't know what that meant, or how to even begin figuring it out. Had she been kidnapped again? And if so why wait two years to release her in a field alone?

"Thank you."

She whispered, barely audible against his chest. When he said she was home it sent a shiver down her body. This is the first time she had felt like she was home since this whole thing. In a way Nickle had saved her. Saved her from becoming completely lost, and from disappearing into the darkness once again.

"Nickle... I wish I had the answers."

She said as she saw the questions whirling around in his head. She pulled herself closer to him, clinging to his body as she tried to search her mind for answers. He needed them. She needed them. Her tears started falling again, streaming down her face like the river that was rushing along next to them. She began to sob, and the sobbing became short shallow breaths as she fought to calm herself.

Nickle slowly stroked her hair, trying to help her calm down as she sobbed against his chest, all the while trying to remain calm himself and not start crying, even though his body was fighting him tooth and nail to do so. She doesn't remember...she doesn't remember what the heartless did to her or to Hyakuji....

He let her rest against his chest and slowly began talking, his all too familiar deep voice speaking to her softly as they sat amongst a slowly melting, frozen forest. He began to tell her what had happened during the time she was gone. She told her of the Heartless invasion and how Hyakuji had been swallowed and lost to the darkness and suddenly became connected to so many other worlds in a multiverse, because of the actions of the heartless. That was when he had lost her and Sugar and had spent what seemed like an eternity killing heartless in order to find the two of them, moving from world to world in order to do so. Nickel spoke his last battle with Kinclex and how the two of them had rejoined into one being and how Kinclex was now really nothing more than a memory. He spoke of the final battle against Xemnas and how once he was defeated, Hyakuji had been restored but.....Celestial and Sugar had not.

He had tried to keep their memory alive for so long, wishing and hoping that one day the two of them would just reappear home and everything would be ok again. He told her how he had kept himself busy with work and the Elemancer Castle, and how Hyakuji was on the verge of being shut down due to lack of funding. Then, it was slowly but surely coming to the part that Nickle had been dreading discussing.

"Celestial, you were gone for so long that, I gave up hoping for what seemed like the impossible and began to slowly let what seemed to be the cold hard truth that you would never be coming back.....and.....I found someone else to include in my life." He looked down at her, incapable of talking anymore, because, he really had no idea what to say next. Would she want to know who it was? He didn't know what her reaction was going to be and it scared Nickle to his core. It was because of that, that he felt silence was the best option for the moment.

Celestial looked at him with her piercing green eyes as he explained to her what happened. She smiled for the first time she'd been back as she heard of his brave adventures, fighting his way through the worlds to find her and Sugar. It made her so happy to know that he searched for her. Though she could feel that there was a 'but...' at the end of this brave tale.

When he started to say that he lost hope in ever finding her, she really looked at him. Her Nickle? Gave up? She nodded and sat up straighter when he finally told her that he had found someone else. Her first reaction was to let go of him. She did so as soon as the words left his lips. She wanted to run, to leave him to his new life, but she didn't. She backed up against a tree and just looked at him. She wanted to be angry, she wanted so many things. More than all she wanted that safe feeling to come back. It was there and gone in an instant. She was back to square one.

She couldn't help feeling more distant than ever, even though what she wanted to do was say she was happy for him. Would she have done the same if the tables had been turned? Would she have been able to let go and move on? It must have been a hard decision, because no decision Nickle made was reckless.

"Oh.."

Was all she could muster up. She closed her eyes and rested her head against the tree, focusing on his mind. She could feel this new woman's presence in all of his thoughts. Memories flashed by from the past two years, she saw him smile and laugh with her. She didn't stop on any one memory because she could already feel her chest get heavy. She tried her best but couldn't stop the tears that rolled down her cheeks, especially when a memory of his first kiss with this woman. Did she want to know her name? She was beautiful, she seemed great. She didn't want to be the jealous type, especially since she no longer had the right to be. Of course her leaving was not voluntary, but it was leaving nonetheless.

With that, she got up. She brushed off her legs and looked down at him, with the best happy face she could manage. She did not want him to feel guilty for starting over, to moving on. She still couldn't decide if she would have done it, but she knew that she could not guilt him into anything. Did she want him back? Of course. She looked down at the engagement ring and another tear rolled down. She slid it off her finger, and looked down, an indent that seemed permanent was still there. She waited for him to stand up to hand it back to him, tears still rolling down her cheeks. She tried to look away, to avoid him seeing her so emotional.

"I'm happy for you. She seems like an amazing girl"

She said, looking at him, trying to convince him that her smirk that wanted to be a smile was real. She was hurt. Her heart was breaking. But his had been breaking for two years, he deserved to be happy again.

Nickle slowly stood up, his body shaking slightly as he watched Celestial's reaction to what he had just told her. It wasn't from the cold, far from it. The slight tremble that his body was exibiting was more like a titanic earthquake inside of himself. Even though what he thought had felt right at the time, moving on with his life and treasuring the memories he had with Celestial and Sugar, now felt like complete and total betrayl. He took a step closer to her, his body almost unwilling to move.

"Celly..."

His azure eyes were fixed on her, but his body was limp, not reacting like Nickle wanted it to. He watched as her eyes moved to her hand and-

The ring

Nickle had been holding Celestial so close that he hadn't seen it up until now. His heart jumped into his throat. He still remembered the day he had proposed to her and how happy they had both been. He had thought those days would never end and then, the darkness took it all away. But, this was worse. His actions, were what were making this happen right now. He wasn't second guessing his love for Chizu, not one bit, but that didn't change the fact that seeing Celestial remove the engagement ring was like a knife in his heart. But what could he do? Tell her to keep it? That would only stop her from moving forward and it would still leave feelings unresolved.

Nickle's heart was beating faster and faster, he didn't know what to do. He watched Celestial smile while the tears rolled down her face, as she held out her hand to return the ring. Her heart was breaking and there was nothing he could really do to mend it. She was putting on a brave face, but Nickle could see right through it. He slowly reached for her hand, a single tear rolling down his own cheeck. He didn't take the ring, not right away, he stood there, holding her hand for a moment before slowly sliding the ring out from it and letting his arm fall limply to his side.

"Celestial, if I had known, if I had known in the slightest way I'd see you again, I would have waited more but....I love Chizu, as dearly as I love you. You have to understand, I didn't know....what the future held for me. I thought you were gone forever." Now more tears were slowly but surely spilling from Nickle's eyes, his face remained as stoic as possible given the situation, his voice breaking only ever so slightly.

Celestial backed away again as he moved closer to her. She wanted to be fine, she really did. She wanted to be happy for him, a part of her even wanted to meet the girl that mended his broken heart. Or stole it. But she couldn't think like that. She watched as Nickle himself began to break down. This was the break up that was never supposed to happen.

When he put his hand in hers she was lost again. The crying, the sobbing; there was no longer a brave face. She did not grab for his hand, and let it lay gently in hers as she began to fall apart. In that instance she wished she were a stronger person.

When he slid the ring from her hand that was the solid moment in her mind. The end. She should have been happy to be home. It was as if she had awoken from a coma to find her one true love had moved on. Textbook romance movie, but she did not foresee a happy ending in this one, or not for her anyway. It didn't make her heart break any less to know that he waited and he fought. In the end it was all the same. He had moved on. In a sense, he hadn't believed in her strength and ability to come back to him. Her body was convulsing from the amount of crying similar to losing a loved one. She had come back to Hyakuji with nothing here for her. Even Sugar was gone.

When she heard him speak, she nodded. She knew in her heart that he meant every word of it. She didn't know how long he waited, and she refused to ask him that. She didn't want to know. How much time was a love like theirs worth? Three months? A year? She could not think of those things right now, mostly because as her heart broke, so did her mind. He would feel the air get cold once again.

This time it was faster, there was snow on the ground in a matter of seconds. The trees that were dripping now had even longer icicles on them. Both of their tears were frozen as they fell from their cheeks. She didn't even open her eyes. She knew what was happening, she felt the faintest chill in the air as the cool winter air rolled around them, but she did not falter.

"I know Nickle, and every day I will regret that I wasn't able to free myself sooner. I wasn't able to save Sugar, to save us. I am glad you found love again..."

She said in between sobs. She really sounded pathetic. She began to walk away. What more was there for her to say. She felt as though she was having a heart attack, was that truly what heart break felt like? She didn't want to stay, she wanted to disappear again. She felt childish for running... again. But what could she do? There was no way she could handle any more pain.

Her walk became a run, and once again she was off into the forest. This time the snow followed her. The trees crackled as branches began to break off from the cold in the air. Anyone around would feel as though they were being suffocated, just like Celestial felt as her heart continued to break.

Nickle felt like a dagger was being hammered into his heart with each sob Celestial made, the ice in the area around them was growing vaster and the temperature was dropping because of it. He could only wonder how much worse this was for Celestial, as she was truely alone, while he now had Chizu. Why did he hate himself because of that? Nickle grit his teeth, unable to even think straight anymore and even more incapable of saying something to the woman he was once set to marry.

He watched her starting to walk away, watching her slowly start go out towards the forest. Her paced increased as he watched her go until she was starting to run. I can't let it end here! He thought desperately, not sure what the future held, but knowing that as of right now, until things were settled, Celestial was his responsibilty. He bolted after her, "Celestial wait!" he shouted, his footfalls break through the fresh frost on the ground. He reached out, catching a hold of her once more and slowly bringing himself to hug her from behind. "Celestial, please wait."

He stood there for a moment, simply holding her until their breathing became regular, "I know I can't change how things are now, but I'm not about to watch you go and not know about your future well-being." He slowly and gently moved around her to look at her. "Celly, I love Chizu now, but I still have a love in my heart for you. You are still someone special to me in my life, so please, don't run. At least let me help you get back on your feet." It was a mixture of concern and a plead.

Life would have been so much simpler if there were just two of him but.....that already was something he didn't want to relive.

Celestial was no longer running to be free of him, and when he caught her she did not fight it. She laid limp in his arms as he hugged her from behind, her tears falling faster than ever. She did not know what to say, and she knew he didn't as well. She nodded when he said he wanted to help her get on her feet, but how could he possibly help her. At least she knew what had happened to her. But there was still one question,

"Why me? Why was I taken with Sugar? Where were you?"

She asked coldly as he turned her around to look at him. Why hadn't he come into the darkness after her? She knew he was fighting them for her, but how did she get sucked in over him? Was it because she was weak? Maybe he didn't have the answer to that question, and she was sure that he had asked himself that a million times over the past two years; but once she could accept the reasoning, maybe she could move on.

She looked at him in the eyes for the first time since he had told her there was someone else. Her eyes were as bright as ever, but were also red and puffy from crying. She knew, looking into his eyes that there was no chance. There would never be a Nickle and Celestial ever again. She fought back the urge to cry once again and just kept her eyes locked on his. She was sifting through his memories as she stared at him. Since he didn't have the words for her, maybe he would have the thoughts. She could see his battles, his sleepless nights, the days on end he spent searching, and the tears he had shed for her. Her eyes softened and she wrapped her arms around him, giving him the tightest hug that she had ever given someone.

She wanted to feel grounded, to feel real again. How long before she could feel like she was really here? Was still alive? Her next move was still a mystery, even to her. She didn't really want to leave, but right now there was no reason to stay. She thought of her apartment, and how abandoned it felt. She couldn't imagine going there, living there. She hadn't even told her parents she was still alive. To them she was still gone. Were they looking for her as well?

Nickle couldn't answer right away, he didn't want to say what he was thinking. Was it because, there was more light in his heart? Was that why the Heartless had not claimed him as well? He had fought for her, so hard, night and day against hordes of creatures from the dark, in all shapes and sizes. He had fought against Kinclex, literally his own flesh and blood to try and stop everything that was changing the multiverse and even when it all ended, Celestial had not come back. That was when he started to doubt, not entirely, but a little more each day, that her or Sugar would ever come home.

He still had not answered when she suddenly hugged him. He hugged her back, the smell of her hair, being so familiar. Celestial was back and she had once been his whole world. Things just couldn't end this way. While he still loved Chizu, he had a responsibility for Celestial as well for the time being until she got control of her life.

"You can stay with me, until you get settled." There were two spare rooms in his house after all and while Cerium had taken up one of them, the other was still bare. It was the only thing Nickle could think of for now. Getting Celly someplace familiar and safe and just, well, giving her a meal and a place to clean herself up. A full stomach and a relaxing bath always gave a person time to just, breathe and collect themselves.

He slowly released her from the hug, taking her hand in his, "Come on, you shouldn't stay out here too long and my cousin might be wondering where I am. Please, even for just one night, let me give you a meal and a place to stay."
