Fortunately for everyone concerned, Kazuna wasn’t badly hurt from her brief stint of being possessed by the King of Spades, though the same probably couldn’t be said from how much she suffered at the hands of Nanoha’s area bombardment magic that managed to separate the undead from her body. Not even the injury on her own body could shake the unmistakable truth that she used a very powerful magic on someone she loved.

Well, it wasn’t the first time, so to say but that’s beside the point now.

“Don’t worry, Nanoha, we got the best medical facilities in all of Hyakuji.” Hajime assured his younger sister with a hand on her shoulder. “And besides, she’s a Kamen Rider, she knows the risks, and she’s not as weak as you’d think she’d be.” It was still quite a surprise for him and the others when Nanoha flew in earlier with an unconscious Kazuna in her arms who was immediately rushed to the emergency room while they try to make sense of what happened from Nanoha. It was made even clearer when Miyuki returned to HQ later to report.

Nanoha took her brother’s hand and grasped it, but then only nodded understandingly while still keeping her eyes on Kazuna who lay motionless in bed before her, looking seemingly peaceful in her sleep...

Physically, Kazuna escaped without injury. Beyond scratches from rough handling, there was no damage that would require special treatment. All in all, Kazuna just seemed to be exhausted to the point where it was difficult to wake her, though that may have been her natural inability to get up in the morning without assistance. Still...while her body was fine, her mind and spirit were the ones that suffered the most damage.

The Undead's hold over her was strong, it was difficult to break free from on her own and it was continuously attacking her fragile psyche to keep her restrained. About the only thing telling everyone that she was still alive up there was that there were basic responses at least. Though...it was still up in the air whether Kazuna was still...Kazuna.

Was her mind have been destroyed by the Undead? Was her heart still in the right place? She had yet to become an Undead but at the same time, her exposure to the King this time was too direct. There was no telling how far that was pushed...it was also a possibility that while her body was spared the Undead conversion, her personality could have been rewritten.

There were just no answers.

Nothing but silence, as Kazuna's chest moved up and down ever so slowly...she was breathing, but that was it. It would feel like an eternity as the only person who could help the young Rider right now...was herself. She was fighting still, long after the ordeal.

...

And for now, it seemed that she had won. After what would feel like ages...the young girl's eyes finally opened...

With her eyes still on Kazuna, Nanoha saw the faint fluttering of the other girl’s eyes, as if it was struggling to open slowly. Nanoha immediately got off her seat to get closer beside Kazuna, hoping, waiting and wondering. So when Kazuna finally opened her eyes, the first thing she would see was Nanoha hovering beside her with a tear stricken, worried expression on her face.

“Kazuna-chan…” Nanoha began, almost struggling for words to come to her mouth. “I’m sorry. A… Are you okay?” She asked, reaching up towards Kazuna’s forehead to brush away a tuft of hair away from her eyes.

Hajime meanwhile stood behind Nanoha, with a somewhat worried expression as well but kept himself quiet while waiting to see first how Kazuna was feeling before going out to find someone to check up on her now that she is awake.

Silence.

Kazuna didn't respond immediately. She was awake yet...not fully there, already making it seem like the worst had happened. For a few, long moments she stared into space...looking at her surroundings but seemingly not acknowledging anyone's presence. It was almost as if she didn't even know who she was and who the people around her were.

...

Though, eventually she stopped and...fixated solely on Nanoha...giving the other girl a long and...confused stare. It was...probably painful to look at...though, with each passing second, bit by bit, her eyes seemed to regain "life".

"...N-Na...no...ha?"

"Kazuna?"

Nanoha was slightly worried when Kazuna didn't reply to her immediately, aghast and shocked even, especially when noticing the blank look in her eyes as if she wasn't really there in person and in mind. She wondered if the Beetle Undead's hold on her mind this evening had done that much damage, or that her magic had been too powerful for Kazuna after all. The latter of which made her feel all the more worse than she was earlier as the guilt of her actions began to weigh heavily on her shoulders. Beside her, Hajime too was just as worried and was about to leave to get the doctor when Kazuna finally spoke again, rather weakly.

"...N-Na...no...ha?"

Nanoha's heart skip a beat when she heard her name called by Kazuna. It felt like she hadn't called her for a long time and the feeling that came with it was astoundingly profound that Nanoha's tear came unbidden while she tries hard to not out and cry in front of Kazuna. "I'm here, Kazuna-chan." Nanoha said, reaching out to hold Kazuna's hand to assure her presence. "I'm here. How are you feeling?"

Hajime, noting the relative okay condition of Kazuna with a smile, turned to leave the room quickly to find the doctor and maybe Miyuki too if she was still around. She'd probably be worried about her daughter.

"It...kind of hurts to even speak to be honest..." Kazuna mused with a slight laugh, though it was halted by a bit of coughing. She...was intact, it seemed. Her mental faculties were all there, she recognized Nanoha and could even respond as she normally would. Of course, this meant even if she shouldn't...she'd end up doing more than necessary, good condition or no.

"But I need to say one thing...despite how much it hurts right now." She shouldn't have been moving and yet...she forced herself up to embrace the girl at her bedside, as tightly as she could. "Thank you."

Of course, this would lead to Nanoha being dragged into bed with Kazuna, because the smaller girl had a hard time remaining upright but at the same time refused to let go...

The move Kazuna did caught Nanoha by surprise, as when she saw the younger girl try to get up from the bed, Nanoha was quick to stand up and try to push her back down as she shouldn't move at all. As such, Nanoha immediately lost her balance but still managed to brace herself from having her entire weight fall on top of the still hurt Kazuna. There she stayed, overcome again by surge of emotions brought by Kazuna's welcomed embrace. Everything that she held up since this afternoon finally broke free of the proverbial dam she built, and without any shame or care, she cried in Kazuna's embrace.

"I'm sorry! If I knew what you were going through, you wouldn't have to go through all that pain!" Nanoha said, her voice slightly muffled and distorted by her face practically being on top of Kazuna's chest and her crying as well. "I wouldn't have to use it on you! I'm so sorry, Kazuna-chan!" She wasn't expecting any forgiveness from Kazuna for what she did. She couldn't possibly expect any. Even now, she regretted a lot of things, mostly of her using Starlight Breaker on her dear Kazuna...

"Well, I hate to interrupt you two, but you can resume after I leave."

With the usual twisted sense of humour, the person who called themselves Kazuna's legal guardian made their presence known.

She didn't seem at all concerned with clearing up what happened, or for that matter, what it even looked at, and treated the event as if it were as commonplace as breathing.

"I'm going to need your attention for abit so if you don't mind putting a pause to that for awhile." she said, requesting as if it were the most normal thing in the world

"Don't worry too much..." Kazuna muttered softly, though before she could say anymore, her adoptive father decided to show off how good her timing was, thus causing Kazuna to be a a little flustered now. As such she just let go of the other girl and merely looked at Miyuki. She had a feeling what would be said next would probably be related to her usage of the Blade system...

Nanoha was content to stay where she was crying her heart out even if Kazuna might not forgive her. But all good things doesn't last much around them and before she could hear Kazuna say more, Miyuki suddenly appeared beside them with her usual non-chalant tone and aura that even Nanoha could tell that something was up, obviously concerning Kazuna herself.

Drying her tears slightly, not caring if she got caught crying, she got off Kazuna when she let go but stayed by her side regardless in case Kazuna might need her or something, even if it's just her presence...

The face turned expressionless once the pleasantries were over.

From now on, it was basically business mode.

"There's two main things. First of all, the incident is being suppressed. All details regarding it, your statements, and all the evidence, are being classified and stricken from official records." she said. "Second thing, I just had a talk with Leo, and it's been decided."

Miyuki closed her eyes, and spoke as if delivering a benediction to the dead. Completely official in tone, without a hint of the adoptive parent that worried about their child just shortly before.

"Kenzaki Kazuna. It is As of 2300 hours today, you are no longer Blade. The equipment has been deemed too dangerous to use by someone in your condition, and your position is suspended pending your recovery and reassignment."

"...I see."

What could Kazuna actually say? She knew it was going to happen eventually...gambling with her humanity using the Blade System had finally led to a huge loss on Kazuna's part. At most she likely had one last transformation before the damage became irreparable. Still...it was a day she really hoped would never come, and the next thing to come out of Kazuna's mouth was obvious...

"So...I can't fight anymore?"

Kazuna had...nothing now. She had no natural talent to make use of the any other systems in storage, nor did she have any abilities of her own. In other words, without the Blade system she was...normal. She just...wasn't prepared to give up the one thing she felt made her...her.

"That is difficult to say." Miyuki admitted "Blade was the only system you had affinity for, and in that sense, there are no other systems that would suit you. Regardless, the undead of the suit of spades have now all been permanently sealed."

While it was not necessarily an absolute truth, the matter was still that, without a system she had affinity for, without the natural affinity for combat some of the others possessed, without the harsh training that others had put themselves through to keep their value even without their systems, Kazuna, as a combatant, would not be able to keep fighting as anything more than a liability or expendable footsoldier.

"Thus, your duties are complete." she said simply.

An incompatibly cold and warm declaration.

Even in Miyuki's cold eyes, they said that she could rest her sword.

There was no need for her to keep fighting, they said. No need to keep suffering pain. No need to keep enduring the hardship of battle. She could let everything go and experience the trials and joys of a normal life.

As a guardian, it was all she could wish for that their charge would not have to struggle, and live a long, happy life.

Besides, it was not as if they had to live alone.

Understanding the situation the two had been in, the ice-blue eyes moved over to the other person in the room, as if asking if she would support her through it, understanding that Nanoha probably knew Kazuna better than she did, and that she was more needed than Miyuki would be.

Nanoha listened as Miyuki gave Kazuna the verdict on her status as a Rider in BOARD, and could almost see the immense weight it was putting on the younger girl instead of relieving it. It was a look she herself probably had once wore when she wasn't sure what she could do in life, before she discovered her calling as a combat mage using Mid Childan technology. It was the pained look of having no purpose in life whatsoever, or in Kazuna's case, being taken away from her. Instinctively, Nanoha reaches out to hold and grasp tightly Kazuna's hands to assure her that everything was alright.

"Hang in there, Kazuna-chan." Nanoha tried to console her, before turning to Miyuki.

"Is there anything else she can do?" She asked the older woman.

"I...understand."

It pained Kazuna to actually say those words though. Even though she really wasn't suited to be a warrior...for the most part, it was her entire life. She had gotten so used to being Blade that...without it, she was...empty. While she wanted to object, while she wanted to see if there was anything else...she couldn't find the will to do so, because she knew the answer herself. Her only real talent was with that system, her own abilities were limited to that. She was nothing more than an ordinary young girl without it. She was clumsy and weak, and fought purely because of the cards backing her up...

It was a devastating blow to her heart, to say the least. And yet...she just...couldn't accept it. Without powers...did this mean she'd have to leave? There was no room for those who weren't gifted in this city...after all, given what it went through on a daily basis, anyone "normal" was in constant danger.

And yet...she couldn't think of anything. Her fate...just like her system...had been sealed.
