A cloaked figure stood leaning against the building, huddled beneath the awning as the rain came pouring down. The figure was obviously female as the dark material did little to conceal her slender form. Beside her rested a black duffle bag. Her hood was pulled up to partially conceal her face, dark eyes peering out into an even darker night. The hustle of the city had simmered down to just the night owls, the ones who feared not of the dark or were two drunk or stupid to understand the dangers that lurked within the shadows.

'Some places never change...'

Thoughts of what used to be home floated up to the surface of her memory. The friends she'd made here, the tears shed, the laughs... But she had gone away for such a long time that those memories were too far detached, she could've sworn she had dreamt them. A few names floated to her memory, with fragmented stories of how she knew them strung along behind.

She was lucid for now, nostalgia welling up inside of her and pushing away all of the dark thoughts. She couldn't remember what malevolent force had caused her to return to Hyakuji... she had a duty to fulfill.

"Who first..." She murmured.

"Dammit why does it have to rain at this moment..."

The half-phantom panted in irritation as she raced through the sidewalk, hands covering her head in a futile attempt to shield herself from the downpour. This is one time when she really hoped Seth would just randomly summon her just so she would get away from the rain.

And having a terrible sense of direction does not help her case. Who knew just where could she be right now? She doesn't even know the way back to the dorm. Huffing a little she paused for a moment after reaching a junction, looking side to side as she tried to recognize the path to the school with little to no avail. "Crud dammit!" The small silver-haired girl in her signature green and white dress stomped angrily on the sidewalk, splashing water over her shoes that only elicited even more angry outburst from the girl. As if that would matter much, she's already far too drenched from staying in the rain for too long.

Really, she's being a little bit too cranky over a downpour. Wonder what's ticking her off prior to this?

Oh forget it, let's just wait for the rain to settle. Luckily there's a convenient little awning she could use as a cover for--"AUGH!"

DAMN HER LUCK IS JUST HORRIBLE TONIGHT. With how heavy the rain was and considering the fact that it's night time, it wasn't hard to trip over a little pothole or something and falling face first into a large and dirty puddle. "Urh..." She groaned in frustration, keeping herself composed just enough for her to simply clench her fist tightly to let it all out.

Kit skittered back as the girl stomping through the water face planted, spurting water everywhere. She hesitated, simply watching as the girl took the dive. It was sort of comical, really... but Kit didn't know whether to laugh or run. The soaked girl seemed livid.

She sighed, relenting to the small voice in her head telling her to man up and help. Fuck you too, conscience. I hate water more than anyone. Her tail flicked in agitation but she trudged forward. The hooded girl knelt down beside the muddied one and extended a hand.

"Here, let me help you up." The words came automatically in a tone that seemed sincere enough. She was outside the protection of the awning now and getting pelted with rain. This girl had about 4.326 seconds to take her hand before she darted back under the safety of the awning, out of the rain.

Cats hated rain.

Even after rounding it up, no one would want to consider a help offered by someone in such a situation for even three seconds. She only needed to know that she was being offered a hand, that was an attempt to help her, and thay took her less than two seconds. A bit surprised but grateful nonetheless, she grabbed the hand on top with her own dirty one, before- "Kyah!" -being yanked hard towards the awning. The 4.326 seconds was up. And thanks to her small stature it would be like nothing more than carrying a cat. Well, at least she's got cover now.

"Be gentle at least!" That came out of her mouth instead of a thank you, as she rubbed her wrist. Alright, so... she's out of the rain... now what? She's soaked amd dirty as though she had just taken a dive in one of those sewage treatment tank or something. Well... at least she's not as smelly. But really, no one likes to stand outside all wet and drenched like this. Even if she were to wait for the rain to settle it might as well take a few more hours... blergh. "Well, how long have you stayed here?" She said idly, attempting to wring out as much water as possible from her soaked dress.

She didn't even attempt to dwell on the appearance of the female stranger whom had just helped her. But really, we're talking about someone who goes to class in her pajama.

Kit stared blankly at the girl who dared her to be gentle. 'Gentle? I'll show you gentle...' But she dared not retort anything. Instead, she bit her lip and stared, trying hard not to scowl. She couldn't blame the girl, she'd have been furious if it was she who had fallen into a puddle of muddy water.

She shrugged, prying her gaze from the girl out to the dark gloomy sky. "A while..." was all she said, muttering.

She hated the rain, but was really in no rush to go anywhere.

"A while huh... well at least you're all dry..." She said with a grunt, twisting the hem of her dress as hard possible to dry it off. Or less wet, at least. Really, being all drenched in such a weather plus the fact that it's nearing winter totally isn't helping her case.

Dammit, what horrible luck today... getting caught in a rain without any shelter and unable to find her way back to the dorm, and getting stuck in the middle of nowhere with some strange stranger in a cloak, well... maybe it wasn't all too bad, but...

She slumped backward, leaning on the cold brick wall of the building behind her as she slid down to the floor, clutching both her shoulder as she attempted to make herself as compact as possible.

...Gosh, this situation feels ridiculously familiar... just like 700 years ago. All alone in the rain without any shelter...

"...Dammit... why now..." Her head dropped down to be completely hidden from view by her arms, unwillingly reminiscing the bloodbath of the night seven hundred years ago.

A loud yet muffled sneeze.

She raised her head slightly, growling in exasperation as she sniffed loudly. "...Well... this is a first..." She sniffed again, wondering if she had gotten a cold. Really, for the half-phantom this is probably the first time she had ever gotten a cold.

A flash of annoyance flickered over her face, hidden except to the angry rain. She let out a muted sigh and shouldered out of her hooded jacket, extending it to the girl.

"Take it." She said curtly. Kit was stubborn, the girl would find out, and 'No' wasn't an answer she'd accept once she had made up her mind. "And... take off your wet clothes. The jacket should be long enough to cover your bottom..." A flush crept up her neck, and she stared out at the rain. "Unless you'd like to get sick."

Jacketless now, she was left to the light v-neck shirt and slim fitting jeans covering her slender form. Kit's ears and tail were clearly visible now, and her ears pressed back as she stuffed her hands into her butt pockets.

Blink.

It sounded like a fairly reasonable request. But even then she should be at the very least reluctant about it, right?

Pfft.

"Oooh, thanks!" Hey, we're talking about someone who goes to class in her pajama. Without so much of a fluster, whine or frown she stood up and slid the green and white dress off herself, letting it drop to the ground with a faint splat, leaving her in her white undergarments. She immediately took the jacket from her savior, slipping it on and zipping it up to her neck.

It was probably lucky that with her short stature, the jacket played it quite well as a thick and heavy dress. She raised her hand, bringing it up close to her face and sniffed the jacket intently. "Hrm..." She twirled around, examining every inches of the jacket she just donned in the shop window nearby. "This thing is old, moldy, and it smells of someone seedy and homeless," How blunt. "But it's so warm and comfy," She said, flapping her arms a little bit as she stared into the window that showed her reflection before turning back to the girl with a big grin on her face. "I like it!"

"S-seedy and homeless?!" She whirled around, glaring daggers at the girl wearing her jacket. Her ears pressed back, in obvious annoyance and her tail flicked tirelessly behind her.

"Says the girl who just stripped off her clothes, outside, in front of a complete stranger?!" She clenched fists at her sides.

Terrified of being caught in the rain, that option sounded a little better than being stranded under this awning with this deluded girl wearing her jacket!

She tilted her head and responded with, "What's wrong with that?"

Yes, she was dead serious and dead confused when she said that.

Ah well. She just shrugged it off. There's no way to make the modernly inept half-phantom understand the mindset of normal people. "You're a nice person," She said, placing her hands behind her as she leaned back on the wall, feeling her spirit rise now that she's all dry and warm. "Man, you remind me of someone... but you're not a pervert like him, so..." She said, rubbing her nose as she gave a laugh. "Anyway, where do you live? You look like from around here," Actually, for Youma it should be: she smelled like she's from around here.

Hrm. We know she's quite talkative, but never in this sense. Most of the time it would be some nasty little snarky comments and jabs.

And like that, Kit's anger had deflated. How could she stay mad at someone so.... so.... Well, what was it?

She let out a long sigh and shook her head, "Calling someone 'seedy' or 'homeless' isn't going to win you any friends."

She looked back out into the rain, ears perking up to pick up any sounds. It looked like the rain wasn't going to cease any time soon... But there hadn't been any thunder or lightning so far. Maybe...

No, she wasn't going to risk it.

She turned her attention back toward the girl, "I wa--... I am. My place isn't too far from here." She said simply.

"...Maybe," She said, looking down on her feet, twiddling her fingers behind her back. She then raised her head, looking at the cat girl with a bright expression on her face. "But at least now I have more friends than ever," Yea. Even if the number of people she could call her friends were around... four, maybe five? That was like... an uncountable amount more than she used to have seven hundred years ago. "And I guess a cat wouldn't want to risk being in the rain even the slightest bit," She giggled. "But you did it for me. I appreciate it,"

It was just a small gesture of kindness. But for the half-phantom it wasn't something small.

"Oii! Youma!"

Her head perked up at the sound of a very familiar voice. It was faint against the hammering of the rain on the awning and the road but it was so familiar she'd be damned not being able to recognize it. From the distance, she could see his form slowly coming into view from the heavy torrent. "OI!" She gave a yell through the curtain of rain, waving energetically at the boy and catching his attention.

"Baka, you're late!"
She said angrily, hunching up her shoulders as the boy with a large umbrella over his head approached the awning. She didn't show it, but she was positively grinning on the inside.

"Hey, it's not that easy looking for you, you know!" He said in retort, knocking the half-phantom on the head with his fist. "You can't even tell left from right, I have no idea where you've been!" Seriously, he'd been walking around the whole city just to look for her when she didn't come back after that long. Her long disappearance should be sorta expected due to her lack of directional senses, but he got worried nonetheless. "And where did you get that jacket?"

"From her,"
Youma said curtly, turning back to the cat girl who had been standing there this whole time. "I was drenched and cold, so she gave it to me,"

"Heeh, is that so?"
He said, putting away his umbrella as he ducked underneath the awning. "Thanks for taking care of her, hopefully she hasn't been causing any trouble," The boy with jet black hair and trench coat bowed politely at the girl, just like how he always would.

"Ne, let's walk her home," Youma interjected him as she tugged lightly on his sweater. T'was the least she could do, as repayment. And she really doesn't feel good leaving her behind after all that.

Kit's ears pressed back and she let out an expression that was something akin to a grimace. She shrugged as the girl showed her appreciation. She hadn't done that small act of kindness to gloat.

Her ears perked up to the foreign voice and she turned to see who it was. Nobody she knew, and she wasn't sure if she was relieved or not by that fact. She winced inwardly as the boy knocked her on the head, that must've hurt.

She eased into the background, thinking her clumsy acquaintance would forget about her and trot away into the rain with her friend that has mysteriously appeared.

Ne, let's walk her home.
She blinked, looking between the two of them. "A-ano... It's okay. I'm not that cold and the rain will have to let up sometime..."

"Hm..." He didn't answer, giving her an unblinking stare as though he could see right through her. Though it didn't take a while until he turned away with a shrug. "If you say so,"

Youma stared at him in surprise. That... was unnatural. It really wasn't normal for him to let go of the chance to help someone like that. "Eh... w-wait, Seth, you sure about this?" She said slowly, placing her hands close to her chest in nervousness.

"Well, she said she's fine. Besides, the rain should let up soon," He said, looking up at the dark and heavy sky up above, raining down water like a waterfall. What he said was the exact contradiction to the current situation. "Well, if you're fine with it," He gave yet another shrug, opening his umbrella yet again and walked out with it into the rain, dragging Youma who seemed somewhat reluctant to leave her behind. "Thanks again," He said and waved at her as a final note, before disappearing.

The rain should let up soon. Then she can go home.

Ten minutes passed.

It's... stopping. I think...

Twenty minutes.

A lightning flashed, and there was a grumble of a distant thunder.

Thirty minutes...

...It's not letting up. The rain was as heavy as ever.

"Yo,"

That should give her a shocker after sitting under the awning for who knows how long without anything to do. Suddenly making his appearance was Seth Ryouga, who had apparently ran through the rain judging from his soaking sweater and his jet black hair plastered all over his face and the water dripping off his sleeves. And from the looks of it, he lacked an umbrella. Though he doesn't seem to be irritated or mad or sad about it. In fact, he looked quite content. Smiling even.

Kit smiled politely and waved as they departed, "Get home safe."

She watched as the two figures walked out, growing smaller and smaller in the distance, obscured by the heavy rain. She leaned against the building, slumping down into a sitting position. It looked like she wasn't going anywhere anytime soon.

The two were nice enough to offer walking her home, but it would have been a hazard to all of them if she joined them, especially under that umbrella. It wasn't just the fact that she hated being wet... but she was a super conductor. It was like sticking a live wire into a pool of water and not expecting to be shocked. Even the slightest shock would be attracted to her and the water made the situation even funner. It allowed the chance for lightning to find her.

Nope. She rather liked being alive and not fried. And, the awning wasn't too bad. She wasn't one to sleep much, anyway. It was the wind that bothered her the most. Surrendering her jacket had left her with only a light tshirt and her jeans. She pulled her knees up, hugging them to her chest and closed her eyes. The sound of the rain beating hard against the awning and pavement made a sort of lulling white noise. Her ears perked, allowing the sound to wash over her.

Yo.

Her eyes fluttered open as the voice came to her. Had she fallen asleep? For how long? Had the rain stopped? Nope. She wasn't so lucky. But the strange boy was back, and drenched.

"A-ah! You're so wet." She blurted out, looking up at him, "Are you okay? Did you forget something?" She looked around and saw Youma's wet dress still bundled on the floor. Yeah, that must've been it. He came back to retrieve it.
