Nature, a thing often considered trivial yet its beauty can rarely be matched by anything. Most people took its presence for granted considering themselves the masters of nature and without any second thoughts would cut down the majestic trees and burn down the flowerbeds if it was required to expand their cities. Yet for the Beastkin it was different. They lived in harmony with nature itself, respecting and loving it to the point they considered it their duty to help protect it. Of course this was also the case for the young Touka of the Aquila clan. With the school day finished, that she sadly had not been able to attend to due to getting lost on her way to school she had decided to settle down in the park for a few hours and late afternoon had turned into early evening. The cold wind breeze that was carried around with the air caused a light shiver to run across the teenager’s spine, her wing-shaped ears twitching slightly in response to the sensation. Finally deciding to ignore the cold air for a moment she peeked up toward the tall tree that towered above her and with a innocent smile lifted a hand, placing it on the tough bark that surrounded its body. “It’s good that you can remain healthy while having such thin boundaries like a park…” Musing those words out loud she pondered what reason humanity must have had for creating parks. Was it to keep the presence of nature within their cities or was it a cruel attempt to show their false belief of ownership over it? Letting out a light sigh she gently turned around and allowed her back to rest against the tree, slowly sliding down alongside it before she focused her attention onto the thing she was holding in her hands. A long sheathed katana was resting inside her hand, the object feeling pleasantly familiar and nostalgic to the point it felt more like a old friend rather than a weapon. Aquila Vesica, the Eagle Blade was the very first weapon she had crafted and in her opinion a masterpiece. While humanity had mostly abandoned the ancient arts of crafting in favor for the more effective methods science had developed the Aquila of the Beastkin had the natural affinity toward Soul Crafting. Hearing such a outlandish term one would likely ponder what in the world Soul Crafting is right? Soul Crafting is like the term suggests the art of creating things by using the soul as a catalyst. While this might seem a even more complicated and ineffective approach it is entirely the opposite. Strong souls like those of the Beastkin can easily make weaponry only matched by those that had worked their entire life to reach a stage of mastery over crafting. Of course Soul Crafting is difficult because one needs to be in a perfect state of meditation since failure to focus would cause flaws to be found in the product what could be considered a great dishonor to the pride of the Aquila crafter. As it was mentioned Aquila Vesica was made by her when she was still a child, spending her days between training in the art of the sword and learning how to craft. Indeed she was rather odd in the sense she enjoyed Soul Crafting far more than the experience of swordsmanship like most of her kin did. Of course she was aware of the many dangers lurking amidst the world outside her realm so she had to use Aquila Vesica in the time of a emergency, or better said when she was required to defend herself… But now she thought about it… There was still beauty to be found in the world occupied by humans. Nature itself remained wonderful to spend her days in but honestly human civilization was often a source of fascination to her as it was soon revealed when she pulled out a small book that could fit in her pocket. Due to having never known anything about humans and their societies she often spend her free time studying more about it, mostly because she was too shy and afraid to seek out a stranger for their guidance and wisdom. Opening the small book she saw a picture of a giant metal construction that had wings like a bird. Blinking in confusion at humanity their attempt to conquer the sky she read about the things called airplanes, giant metal constructions that allowed one to take flight and reach places that normally would take a lot longer. Of course she did understand the usefulness of flight, especially because she was part of the Aquila Beastkin and had experienced the sensation of flying amidst the clouds a few times already. So those airplanes were both used to transport people but also as weapons of war? War… So humans were sometimes indeed so selfish they fought against each other with the intention of killing them. Her kin had never experienced conflicts like that. Certainly there was the occasional squabble but the only time they experienced a war was against their human creators when they attempted to enslave them once more… The memory of the creators binding the Beastkin to their will with their odd machines and then using them like lifeless puppets was enough to fill the girl with a strong sense of grief and anger. Humans could be such a selfish species! Suppressing her annoyance at something she couldn’t change she decided to return her attention to the park itself. There were still a handful of people around, some students meeting their friends others couples in love and occasionally even a parent with their child. Indeed it was a pleasant and peaceful sight to witness to the point one could barely believe the ruthless creators were part of the human race… Looking up at the tree, almost as if asking for approval to be allowed to keep on using him as a support she smiled sheepishly while closing the book and placing the sheathed katana back onto her lap. Who else would have been visiting the park at this time of the day? |

"Such a beautiful evening," Lavender thought as she strolled down the walkways of the park, admiring how the light of the day was already beginning to soften as a late afternoon made way for an early evening. A leisurely stroll? She had to admit that was something new to her, or rather something she hadn't done in such a long time. After all, a jog gave her more of a workout, and the physical exertion helps to keep her mind focused and also provided a good release from stress. But it was clear that heavy physical activity wasn't on Lavender's mind on this particular day, as she went out for a walk in one of her favorite casual outfits - a tan pencil skirt, dress boots, a black satin top and on top of it all, a denim jacket, her hair left down in a more casual style, just casually observing people from various walks of life going about their activities, from salarymen hurrying home after a hard day of work, to dating couples sharing a moment of tenderness, to children playing and living out their childhood as it should be in her book, free from worries and the concept of responsibility, her attention drawn to a group of kids playing a game of football. Lavender smiled as a football bounced and skittered towards her, looking up at where the ball came from the aeromancer noticed a group of children running in her direction. Giving the black-and-white colored ball a gentle kick, Lavender sent it flying towards the boy who was leading in the front of the rest of his playmates, who skilfully caught the ball like an ace goalie, laughing and giving her a thumbs up before turning his attention back to his friends as they resumed their game of football. Or was it soccer? For Lavender, being a Scotswoman and like all Europeans her name for it would most definitely be football. And that was when Lavender noticed her - sitting underneath the shade of a tree. It was difficult to miss a girl like the one she was looking at right now - despite the proliferation of uncannily-powered individuals here in Hyakuji, most of them would look indistinguishable from any other boy or girl on the street if they kept their powers under wraps. On the other hand, the aeromancer could count - using her fingers - the number of people in this town she'd come across (herself included) who sport some distinctively demihuman appearance traits... like this girl under the tree, and much like herself she also bore unusual ears, a pair of ears that resembled small wings. Most curious indeed, and Lavender couldn't help but wonder if they were a form of mutation, or the girl is indeed a member of a race of demihumans. And then there was the sword she was holding - a katana, no doubt - and thanks to the tutelage of Achilles-sensei the aeromancer could tell it was an exceptionally well-crafted one. A sword rested across her lap and a book in her hand, so this girl is a scholar and a fighter? But more to the point, there was something that Lavender sensed about her that gives her the feeling that this girl was different from the rest. There was a certain air about her, so to speak, that made it such that she didn't quite fit in with the rest of the city-goers that surrounded her. Lavender couldn't quite find the word for it, but the closest she could give to a description was that this girl bore the unmistakable charm of innocence and purity on her, which could only be found on someone who had yet to bear the 'taint' of the modern world. However, Lavender knew she could probably spend all day wondering all sorts of stuff about the other girl and still not know anything about her. And so, approaching the girl underneath the tree Lavender addressed her. "It's a nice tree isn't it?" Lavender began with a casual remark on the girl's surroundings. "While a pristine forest, untouched by the advances of the modern world is truly a majestic sight to behold, I must say a landscaped park has a beauty and charm of its own as it combines the majesty of nature with the elegance and artistry of civilisation," the aeromancer gave the wing-eared girl a friendly smile and a nod as she got down into a kneeling position, or what the Japanese term as wariza, which is the authentic way to sit in Japanese culture as opposed to the cross-legged position, such that she would be and the other girl's eyes would more or less be drawing level with each other instead of having her to look up. Definitely facilitates communication and helps the aeromancer look more welcoming, or so she believed. |

The light footsteps were easy to hear for the honed senses of the Beastkin girl, her ears twitching slightly in union with the slight raise of the female’s head. Because it had been a school day one would find that Touka had been dressed in a rather regular fashion, the modern and in some schools even popular sailor Seifuku, a uniform she had been given out of kindness when she enrolled likely in a attempt to make it just a bit easier for her to blend within the student population. In the end one could say the outfit of a Beastkin tended to be different from the modern type of clothes to the point the closest comparable attire would be found among the native Americans. A pair of dark blue colored eyes peeked upwards to the stranger, their gentle and calm approach seemingly doing a good job at preventing her from both being startled and scared something that tended to happen often when one had grown up knowing humans only as ruthless beings. Nodding her head lightly toward the lady a small smile surfaced on her lips as she replied to the comment in a soft voice, her tone gentle and caring as if she was talking about a friend. “Indeed he’s strong and just but wise and stubborn also, truly a example of something that embodies nature.” Listening to the words of the stranger she had to admit that while the first part had been something she entirely agreed with the second piece had left her indecisive and perhaps even uncomfortable. To her it didn’t feel like humanity made a park to live alongside nature, rather they wanted to keep it as a testimony of their attempts to suppress and control nature, just like the beings that existed within it… Of course she understood that she likely thought like that because of the prejudging she held toward humanity as a whole. In the end she had seen her kin suffer so much from the greed and cruelty of humanity so how couldn’t she fear and sometimes dislike them? It was because of them she had been required to leave behind her people in hope of finding aid but how could she do that when the world was inhabited and controlled by humans?! Indeed it was a complicated situation to say the least, and a difficult one at that also… “I guess that could be a way to look at it… Honestly to me it feels more like humanity their attempt to flaunt the control they believe they have over nature. In the end could it truly be considered harmony? The park is like a silver cage for nature… But my opinion about the matter might be biased.” She smiles softly in return toward the stranger, briefly pondering about who might had been correct. Perhaps both had been? In the end despite her dislike of the human species she did know it was foolish to label the entire race the same just for the actions of some of them. In the end the only image of humanity she had known was that of the cruel and selfish creators. Briefly the eyes of the young Beastkin looked over the features of the woman that had approached her, the feeling she had a bit different from most. Perhaps it was because this person had been acting calm and gentle that she had felt at ease around them but there was something she couldn’t exactly place… Simply said she didn’t feel like the humans that she had seen before. Deciding it would be impolite to continue reading while someone was trying to start a conversation she gently closed the pocket-sized book and placed it on the grass beside her. “But even then I might enjoy being in this cage more than walking amidst the cities of humanity. Their constructions and contraptions while mysterious and fascinating often feel like they lack ‘life’. Isn’t it odd how despite prospering in what is called technology their inventions rarely hold the same charisma of nature.” She had gone silent, remembering the fact that in a way she and her people had also been a creation of human science. Perhaps it was because they were one of the few inventions that held the beauty of life that their creators were so greedy and ruthless in how they handled them? Maybe they indeed saw them as products of science rather than living beings. A gentle sigh escaped her lips as she rested her head against the majestic tree behind her, briefly closing her eyes and allowing nostalgia to overflow her when finally she mused out softly, just loud enough for the stranger to hear her words. “Perhaps that explains why my people are considered products rather than living people…” It was then, seemingly noticing the pointed-ears of the stranger, a feature certainly not found on humans normally that she spoke, voicing her curiosity toward her own thoughts. “How about you miss? What do you think about humans?” It was a question asked with genuine interest, wanting to know what someone might think when she had asked that question not to another Beastkin. In the end they only knew humanity from the endless suffering they had caused them so gaining the opinion of another might be useful also and provide a different insight on the situation. Growing a bit uncomfortable with the increasing thoughts of sorrow and anger at the way their human creators acted the girl gently pulled the katana closer to her, almost as if she was hugging it. In the end Aquila Vesica was a Soul Blade, a weapon crafter by the means of deploying the soul as a catalyst so in a way it was like a sentient being itself. She could sense the comfort of its presence and that alone was enough to strengthen her resolve to continue the conversation, reassuring herself that what she asked wouldn’t be considered that odd or troublesome to answer right? A pair of dark blue eyes met Lavender's green eyes as the girl looked at the aeromancer - there was little doubt that she was a student, seeing how she is in a school uniform. “Indeed he’s strong and just but wise and stubborn also, truly a example of something that embodies nature.” the girl replied in a gentle voice, full of care and concern, speaking of the tree as though it were a friend of hers. A nature-lover? Now Lavender had to admit was a rare thing to find nowadays - or not really. Rather, it was a rare thing to find someone who had such love for mother nature who didn't come across to her as a freaky tree-hugger or a militant eco-terrorist. Clearly, this wing-eared girl with whom she is now engaged in conversation with was neither of the above, and that was certainly a good start for Lavender. They were getting off on the right foot, so to speak. “I guess that could be a way to look at it… Honestly to me it feels more like humanity their attempt to flaunt the control they believe they have over nature. In the end could it truly be considered harmony? The park is like a silver cage for nature… But my opinion about the matter might be biased.” The girl continued in response to Lavender's statement on parks and gardens. Frank and straightforward with her opinions - that was also something that wasn't easy to come by in modern society that placed so much stock on political correctness. "Well, who in this world can honestly say he or she is without bias?" Lavender replied as she nodded at the girl's comment. Politics, morality, viewpoints and tastes, all of these are only possible due to the differing bias of individuals, giving the other girl a knowing smile. "But there's always a positive and negative way to look at everything - so while it's easy to see where your perspective on a park being a cage for nature comes from. For instance, keeping pets..." the aeromancer trailed off as she glanced into the distance at the sight of a man playing with his dog, a young Labrador Retriever who happily ran after a frisbee tossed by the man, returning to his master with his tail wagging cheerfully as he ran up to the man with the toy between his teeth, followed by his master bending down and giving the dog a hug and rubbing him encouragingly on the neck, both dog and man clearly enjoying each others' companionship. "...an example of good interspecies relationships, or just another case of man exerting his dominance over nature?" the aeromancer mused as she smiled back at the other girl. “But even then I might enjoy being in this cage more than walking amidst the cities of humanity. Their constructions and contraptions while mysterious and fascinating often feel like they lack ‘life’. Isn’t it odd how despite prospering in what is called technology their inventions rarely hold the same charisma of nature.” The girl replied as she put away the pocket-sized book she had been reading before talking to Lavender, which the aeromancer noted was a general knowledge book about technological inventions. Quite a primitivist's mindset, Lavender had to admit - but there was a certain truth that she found it hard to refute. After all, the concept of art and architecture were a relatively new thing that humanity had only devised when they first settled into civilizations some 10,000 years ago, which is only like a tenth of the 100,000 or so years they'd existed on this Earth as a species. And they always said that the essence of art is to mimic life, but a mimicry will always remain as such, a copy. Even the grandest of orchestras couldn't compare to the simple yet soothing sounds of running water of a fast-flowing stream, the gentle rustling of leaves and the song of birds. A gentle sigh escaped the girl's lips as she leaned back against the tree's trunk as she briefly closed her eyes, possibly as a sign of contemplation, a comment which didn't go unnoticed by Lavender. “Perhaps that explains why my people are considered products rather than living people…” Products? Lavender wondered what the girl meant - could she be from an artificially-created species of demihumans? While Lavender was no stranger to the existence of demihuman races back home, and that advances in the field of bio-engineering have allowed scientists to create from nothingness new species of life, it was the first time she'd heard of scientists being able to create demihumans - the ones from her world were ancient, most of them predating humanity itself. But the remark struck a chord in Lavender - seriously, as an Esper she'd felt it as well - in the way some of her human peers looked upon Espers; while it was technically illegal to commit hate crimes against Espers and Others back home, the laws certainly did nothing to stop some from viewing those who had special abilities - those like Lavender and pretty much everyone she'd known in Oasis and Hyakuji as little more than tools, or as workhorses, only tolerated for as long as they are of use to human society. “How about you miss? What do you think about humans?” The girl asked, gently pulling the katana closer to herself as though hugging it. "Now that's a tough question," Lavender chuckled sheepishly as she changed her seating position from a wariza to a more comfortable one with the aeromancer sitting on her bottom, her knees brought up and close to each other as she hugged her arms around them, her upper body leaning forward such that her chin would come close to her knees. "First off... whenever I look at the mirror and see these ears of mine I've always wondered about my identity, on whether I can truly be considered 'human' - you don't see humans with long pointy ears like elves afterall..." Lavender sighed gently, her mind invariably bringing up the bittersweet memories of her childhood as she closed her eyes, her memories of growing up in Edinburgh and the early years in the SEED Institute flashing through her mind like a montage. "...and yet, I grew up around them." It was a simple question, but it was one that was hard to come up with a concrete answer for. "They're a pretty mixed bag as far as I can tell, having lived so long amongst them," Lavender continued. "...or as my father said, like a box of chocolates. You'll never know which piece you'll get until you reach into it." The aeromancer grinned slightly at the remark, privately amused at the reference to Forrest Gump she made - those weren't exactly the words her father used, who instead found humanity analogous to 'a barrel of apples' - but the core ideal was the same, that the barrel of apples are filled with both good and rotten ones, much like how in a box of assorted chocolates one would find flavors they love as well as flavors they hate. "On one hand it is indeed shocking and infuriating to learn how their penchant for cruelty, bigotry and selfishness seems to know no bounds - how they're so ready to kill each other over simple differences..." War, intolerance... she'd seen it and experienced it. Lavender paused briefly, visually appraising the blade held in the girl's hands, which was truly a magnificent work of craftsmanship. "...yet at the same time they have an endless drive to better themselves and reach towards perfection, and the ability to do good onto others without expecting rewards of recognition. I mean, there were those who treated me like dirt..." Lavender recalled the times the other kids in the neighborhood called her names and threw stones at her, as well as rude remarks made behind her backs during her peacekeeping missions as a GLADIUS operative. "...and then there were those who'd helped me out of my darkest moments, guided and tutored me in the ways of compassion and righteousness, who had been my closest friends and trustworthy comrades whom I shared laughter and tears with, and confided with each other our hopes and fears," Lavender looked up at the other girl with a smile upon her face, thinking back on her father, her colleagues in the OASIS Foundation, Dr. Möbius, Achilles-sensei and the rest of her mentors. "So sometimes I look at all these things and I ask myself - which is the true face of humanity?" Why was it that simple questions can't always have simple answers? Such is the complexity of life... |

Her gaze seemingly focused on the interactions between the canine and its owner the girl silently wondered about what it could have meant. Indeed while at first sight it looked like both of them truly were happy part of her couldn’t deny the thoughts of worries tied to human species their behavior as far as she had witnessed it. Indeed there had been signs that just like there had been humans with cruel and evil intentions she had also met some who were noble, kind and caring like Hiro and Trystan. Maybe there was a possibility the words of this female held more wisdom to them than she had first credited them. Maybe it was a matter of nurture instead of nature… Then would this dog be raised into a happy future thanks to the care of its owner? Clearly thinking deeply about the explanation of the elven-like maiden she nodded her head slightly in acknowledgment. Before she was able to find allies among mankind perhaps she should be able to forgive the species for the actions a select few of them had done but at the same time she also needed to learn to trust them… A soft sigh escaped her lips as her ears their beat became more rapid for a moment, almost as if she had been embarrassed by something. “I guess I should have listened to the sages of the Beastkin more often, maybe I would have been able to understand things easier.” Meeting Lavender’s gaze with her own a gentle smile remained on her lips, albeit the slight flush on her cheeks had intensified as she felt like a child being lectured, a feeling only intensified when she sensed Aquila’s amusement at the situation. It was only now she finally noticed the earlier reference to Lavender’s ears, the curiosity of the young Aquila tribe girl causing her to slowly lift a hand, trying to trace her fingertips along their form as she whispered softly, almost hopeful even. “You really are a kind person, but I guess I should have known that when I sensed the nature of your spirit~ I am Touka of the Aquila tribe~ A apprentice Soul Crafter of the Beastkin. Ano… I guess I’m also a student at Hyakuji~ Or was… I went to hide for a very long time…” She could still remember the event that had made her disappear from the surface of Hyakuji… Having caught a minor cold the school nurse had told her to meet with a ‘doctor’ to get some medication but of course they didn’t make the effort to tell her that doctors sometimes worn laboratory coats so when she entered his office… Poor doctor… In a fit of a panic she had suddenly transformed into her half-beast form and after a flurry of scratches to escape left his office trashed and the windows broken… “I sort of made a big mistake~ But it wasn’t my fault~ You see the school nurse is really gentle so she’s okay but once I had this thing humans call a ‘cold’ but instead I felt really warm so I was told to go visit a person they call a doctor. Of course I didn’t knew that you all call a shaman a doctor so when I entered his office and saw that man wearing a big scary white coat I thought he was a creator and panicked… And after escaping from his lair I went into hiding.” She sighed weakly at the memory before she looked back at Lavender once more, humming softly, seemingly at last truly at ease around her. In the end a soul crafter could sense the souls of those around them, in the end it was that connection between souls she used to craft the legendary soul blades but somehow it still took her a while before she could entirely trust someone. Lightly shifting Aquila onto her lap once more, unlike Lavender she was having a normal sitting posture with her legs slightly lifted upwards, bending them lightly, and obliviously causing a bit of fan-service for those down the small hill she was watching from. “But in the end you’re right~ I did find some tasty humans----Chocolates~ But also some sour ones…. Like I met a really gentle martial artist once, and then I also met Hiro-sensei, albeit that was a bit of a weird meeting… Aquila often tells me I should be more focused… ‘It’s not a warrior’s style to get caught in a bookshelf trap and show your panties in front of a sage of human education!’ But those things called skirts are so difficult to keep down… But the miss at the dorms told me it’s best to keep my Beastkin armor at the dorms, because else I might draw even more attention.” She grinned sheepishly as various memories resurfaced within her mind, lightly shifting the katana onto her knees. At the same time she could sense the blade taking its spiritual form again, appearing as a majestic eagle floating above the sword as it spoke calmly. I’m glad you started trusting someone on your own decision. You’re maturing Touka-dono. Perhaps indeed one day you’ll become a leader capable to free the Beastkin from the Creators. Yet obviously neither of them had known whenever Lavender possessed the powers as a Esper to see the spiritual phantom that briefly emerged, but even if she did the fact Aquila decided to show now all of a sudden was a sign he likely had accepted her as a potential ally also. But to think a random meeting could lead to such interactions was a thing even the sentient blade got curious about. “Still the human world sure is large… Even in my beast form it took several days of flight before I got here to Hyakuji. That and those metal birds called airplanes are dangerous, especially since they dislike me flying faster than them so once one of them nearly sucked me into the whirling things on their wings…” Edited by Touka Aquila, Mar 25 2012, 08:50 PM.

“I guess I should have listened to the sages of the Beastkin more often, maybe I would have been able to understand things easier.” The girl replied, and for a moment her gaze remained fixed on the dog and its owner, although judging from her expression the wing-eared girl appeared to be in deep thought as well, possibly going over what they had been talking about so far, before looking at the aeromancer, a gentle smile lingering upon her lips. And with some curiosity the girl raised a hand, apparently tracing an outline of Lavender's ears, which the aeromancer noted on how it was a characteristic the two of them shared in common - perfectly human in appearance aside from some usual physical feature. “You really are a kind person, but I guess I should have known that when I sensed the nature of your spirit~ I am Touka of the Aquila tribe~ A apprentice Soul Crafter of the Beastkin. Ano… I guess I’m also a student at Hyakuji~ Or was… I went to hide for a very long time…” the girl with wings for ears introduced herself as "Touka" from the Aquila tribe. Interesting... Lavender noted, on how her tribe was given the Latin word for "eagle" - although the aeromancer did not fail to notice the aquilonian aspects of Touka's physical features - namely in the form of her ears, shaped as a pair of wings. "Pleased to meet you, Touka-chan... I am Lavender Smith of the Scots tribe, former special ops and currently teacher at Hyakuji High, and you flatter me with your praise," the amethyst-haired aeromancer smiled and nodded, giggling in the back of her mind. Well, the Aquila girl DID introduce the tribe she was from, and Lavender couldn't help but return her introduction by letting her know she's of Scots descent. And hence, the "Scots tribe". "You studied at Hyakuji High? But what happened to cause you to go into hiding?" the aeromancer asked, raising a brow of piqued interest, although at the same time her voice held a touch of concern for the young Aquila, wondering if there was a family tragedy or something of the sort. “I sort of made a big mistake~ But it wasn’t my fault~ You see the school nurse is really gentle so she’s okay but once I had this thing humans call a ‘cold’ but instead I felt really warm so I was told to go visit a person they call a doctor. Of course I didn’t knew that you all call a shaman a doctor so when I entered his office and saw that man wearing a big scary white coat I thought he was a creator and panicked… And after escaping from his lair I went into hiding.” Touka related her tale of how a long time ago she'd caught a cold, and had went to the school infirmary, only to run in fright at the sight of the doctor. Scary white coat? Lavender figured Touka must be referring to a lab coat commonly worn by scientists and doctors, although what made the aeromancer curious was why the "robes of office" worn by men of science would inspire such terror in the noble yet innocent Aquila girl. “But in the end you’re right~ I did find some tasty humans----Chocolates~ But also some sour ones…. Like I met a really gentle martial artist once, and then I also met Hiro-sensei, albeit that was a bit of a weird meeting… Aquila often tells me I should be more focused… ‘It’s not a warrior’s style to get caught in a bookshelf trap and show your panties in front of a sage of human education!’ But those things called skirts are so difficult to keep down… But the miss at the dorms told me it’s best to keep my Beastkin armor at the dorms, because else I might draw even more attention.” Lavender nodded as Touka agreed that as a collective species, not all humans are bad. If anything, she appeared to share the aeromancer's sentiments in that humans too, were born as a moral blank slate, with no inclination towards either kindness or cruelty, although where one would lean towards is entirely a matter of upbringing. "We've all had our embarrassing moments, Touka-chan - eh, what's this?" Lavender replied with a giggle, before finding her laughter cut short as she noticed a familiar vibration coming from underneath her clothes, and reaching for a chain around her neck, pulling out a small teardrop-shaped gemstone attached to a thin silver chain worn around her neck that the aeromancer had kept hidden underneath her shirt, the Mentor's Stone now vibrating and glowing as it picked up on the presence of Aquila (although the aeromancer lacked the sensory powers to see and hear him using her own eyes and ears) "I have a question, however..." the aeromancer leaned forward slightly, first observing the weapon held in the girl's hands, then making eye contact at Touka, taking a deep breath to ready herself for asking what might be a very sensitive question. "You mentioned earlier that you and your people were treated as 'products' instead of living people... I suppose you don't mind sharing a bit of history behind your people then?" That must've explained why Touka was so terrified of the man in a lab coat - if she and her people are the creations of state-of-the-art genetic engineering, they must have faced no small amount of experimentation that bordered on abuse at the hands of their (human) creators, which might explain the young Aquila's fear of scientists, or anyone who wears the 'uniform' of one. |
