"Ah, welcome Setsuna-san it's really wonderful to see you again!" Said the kindly old man behind the register. He bowed slightly to the purple-haired girl who bowed in kind with a friendly smile. Considering how often she came here it was no surprise she was already on a first name basis with the manager here, they'd already made her a preferred customer! "Good afternoon Kumeta Ojii-san." She said, giving him a warm expression. In the past few days, Setsuna had begun to feel the relief of no longer being a superhero and while part of her missed the power to help people, this city was...different. It didn't need her, the whole school was dedicated to protecting others and showing the world what true justice was. They didn't need Kurocho anymore. Dark Pretty Cure and Kowaina hadn't even shown up in weeks and she beginning to think that maybe they'd just given up. There was room for them to survive in a city like this where everyone was united against people like them. This way, she'd found a lot more time to return to doing the things she loved. "I'll take one booth again today, Kumeta-san." Setsuna said, digging around in her bag for her money clip. "That will be the usual fee then." He said politely, ringing it up on the register. He stood quietly with a smile on his face as the young girl dug around, the clacking of lipstick bottles and keychains against cell-phones and loose change reminding him of his own daughter. After about a minute, Setsuna's face began to sink, her smile fading as a panicked nervousness took over. "I-Is there a problem, miss?" He said with a hint of ire, but no less of a smile. "I don't know...I thought I had my money clip, I might have left it back at the dorm, or maybe in another bag just...hang on, I think...No..." Her knees began to rattle a little as the realization sunk in that she had no money. "I've already printed the receipt and rung up your purchase. Do you have any money?" "E-eheh..." Setsuna bowed swiftly and humbly, as low as she could muster. "I-I'm afraid I don't have money, tenchou-sama! Please be merciful!" The man behind the counter folded his arms angrily. If this girl couldn't come up with the money somehow soon he'd have to put her to work! |

"Loosen up, Fusako. Go play karaoke, Fusako. It's sooo fun Fusako. Oh, yeah and I can't come even though I already made the resevation. You'll have to go. By yourself, Fusako. " Fusako mumbled to herself. She had never done karaoke before, and didn't want to be here alone. She opened the doors slowly, not really knowing what to expect. Drunk men? Cute high school guys? Instead she found a girl fumbling in her purse. "I don't know...I thought I had my money clip, I might have left it back at the dorm, or maybe in another bag just...hang on, I think...No..." She said, still looking. Fusako waited for a moment while she continued looking. "I-I'm afraid I don't have money, tenchou-sama! Please be merciful!" The man crossed his arms. The girl didn't seem to have any money... and she had a reservsation fo two. "Excuse me, she's with me." She said. |

"Hmmm...?" The manager said, suddenly looking at the newest customer with a surly, narrowed expression. All at once his features seemed to line up again, once more resembling that of the kind older uncle. "Aha! Why didn't you say you'd be coming up with someone today~ will she be paying for you both then?" He said, his old man grin suddenly looking awkwardly greedy all of the sudden as he eyed the two young girls. Setsuna suddenly felt an uncomfortable sense of understanding just the way this kind of man really thought now. Tenchou suddenly didn't seem like quite the kindly uncle anymore as the surreptitiously eager salesman. Still... She looked back at the girl who'd come to her rescue, recognizing her superficially from school. They'd never spoken before, but she'd seen her before in the halls. With long, straight black hair everyone always said she was beautiful in a 'traditional Japanese beauty' sort of way that made Setsuna more than a bit envious. She couldn't help but feel bad that she was being a financial burden on someone she didn't even know. This sort of thing must have made her look incredibly irresponsible. Sighing, she turned back to the manager with the most disparaging look of defeat on her face. "Y-Yes, she's my...friend from school..." Setsuna said as honestly as possible. Lying like that made her chest feel heavy, especially when it involved exploiting a classmate, but at least they really were classmates. Like everyone else they'd agree to take care of each other, so maybe they were sort of friends in a way. The manager smiled and bowed slightly, a great big, greasy smile on his wrinkled face. "Of course of course, my best customer wouldn't come here and try to steal this old man's money, I should have known better than that~" He said with a deep, cocky laugh. "But I was never intending to d--" Setsuna attempted to clarify, only to get cut off by him laughing even harder. "Now if your friend would be happy to pay for the booth, I can show you both to it and don't forget that today is lottery day in the staff karaoke contest! If your booth is chosen, you'll compete with the rest of karaoke bar's staff for one grand prize!" He said with great excitement before roaring into another fit of old-man laughter. Setsuna nodded nervously to indicate she understood, but didn't really take it seriously. They had this contest once a month, every month and her booth was never picked for it anyhow. Giving up on it was much easier than getting her hopes up anyhow. Though she couldn't do it now in front of the manager for fear of looking suspicious, she planned on apologizing heavily to this girl. "Right this way~" He said, ushering them into the back. As the old man led them to the booth, Setsuna looked behind her again at Fusako, flashing her the most apologetic smile she could. It was difficult to imagine someone could do something so nice for someone they didn't even really know. It would only be fair if she ended up asking for something in return, she felt kind of bad making her pay for all of this in such a way. |

The old man's face went from obviously getting angry back to kindly. "Aha! Why didn't you say you'd be coming up with someone today~ will she be paying for you both then?" He asked, suddenly cheery. Fusako smiled and nodded. Mybe she shouldnt have been so rash... The girl probably didnt even want to do kareoke with her. The girl turnes around to look at he. Then Fusako recognbized her, She was from school! Someone told her her name was Setsuna. The manager lead them to thier booth in the back, and reminded them about the contest. Fusako never got picked for anything, so she payed no mind. They got to their booth and before Setsuna could say anything Fusako said, "I'm sorry... You probably don't even want to do kareoke with me. We're pratically strangers after all. But you see, my brother got this reservation so we could have fun togther, but he coulnt make it so... if you don't mind... I dont...." She smiled a bit sheepishly. "I've never done kareoke before so it might be nice to go with someone." |

The colored disco ball-like lights were spinning across the wall of the karaoke booth while the music thumped and back-up vocals supported the lead singer. A non-sensical music video of random 80s hairstyles and stock animal video clips played in the background of some lyrics displayed at the bottom of a television screen that illuminated the room. All the while, a lone performer clutched the microphone with one hand and a tambourine in the other, singing her heart out like she was the last musical performer in the world. Her purple pleated mini skirt swayed with the music and was paired with gray cropped leggings, black ballet flats, and an over-sized white t-shirt with a vintage bunny printed on the front that fell over one shoulder. No karaoke trip was complete without some colored bangles and a big purple bow holding her pink hair up into a slightly askew ponytail. She was definitely the biggest star in her one person show. One Yuki Tsukiyoru had decided to rent a karaoke booth for an hour or two on a whim, and she was loving every minute of it. She had asked a few friends to come with, but they were all either busy with prior engagements (she tended to ask last minute) or were swamped with homework. This was just fine with her, as it allowed her music selection to be shameless and self-serving with as much sugary, energy-driven j-pop as she could cram into her allotted session. And the fact that she supplemented her drive with high fructose drinks and junk food that she'd ordered only made things that much more interesting. Just as she was building up to the final chorus in her song, she spun around to face the door. The same door that was now open, and in the doorway stood three people (one staff and two students, and of those two, one she recognized), which was three more than she was anticipating joining her. Her expression immediately fell and she stopped mid-sentence, staring wide-eyed in embarrassment at the three with her tambourine above her head. Her mouth hung open, but no words came out, frozen in utter shock at what someone other than herself had just witnessed. The music continued to play without her while a bead of nervous sweat ran down the back of her neck and once she came back to her senses she scrambled to mash the STOP button with her finger, but not before accidentally messing with the tempo and lights. She tried to toss the percussion instrument aside, though any subtlety was lost when it fell on a nearby padded bench with a clang. "Ahaha...hey, everyone!" she laughed nervously, wringing the microphone absent-mindedly with both hands. "Is...there a problem? Is my time up already?" She glanced at the clock and saw plenty of time was left...so what could the issue have been? And more importantly, how long had they been standing there?? "S-Setsuna-san! Nice to see you!" As she bowed a feeling of dread washed over her. She just made a fool of herself in front of a colleague she knew, hopefully that wouldn't be detrimental to their potential friendship. |

"N-no it's not like that at all!" Setsuna said quickly, returning her smile with one of her own and a nervous wave of her hands. "I'm actually really glad you came along, who knows what would have happened if you hadn't shown up..." She looked down at the floor, smiling a bit more genuinely as her hands clasped themselves in front of her meekly. "A-and anyhow, it's always fun to do this sort of thing with friends than alone, right? You seem like a nice person and around school people say nice things about you...My name is Higashi Setsuna by the way." Setsuna twiddled her fingers a little in morbidly girl-y fashion as they reached the door of the booth, only to be enraptured by what she saw on the other side. "Ah..." The manager stood there for a moment, feeling a bit embarrassed for the girl who obviously seemed fairly humiliated herself. He maintained a straight face as he began fidgeting with the clipboard in his hands, attempting to get a bearing on what had just occurred. Had he found the wrong room? It looked right...Meanwhile Setsuna seemed to have a rather impressed look on her face as she clenched her fists and watched the girl intently, even after she'd finished and was clearly flustered by the turn of events. "This room was supposed to be empty...I guess I made a mistake, hmmm..." He muttered gruffly, placing a thoughtful hand on his wrinkly chin and pondering for a moment. "Well, you three wouldn't mind sharing a booth right? I'll just charge you for two so it's like I'm renting you a private but you get to sing with your little friends too!" He guffawed his gravely guffaw before turning to walk back out. "Don't forget, the lottery will be done in five minutes so listen up, okay?" Setsuna watched him walk away, feeling like she might not have known him nearly as well as she used to think. And then there was their other sudden addition! She quickly turned around to face the nervous face of Yuki Tsukiyoru who seemed to be fumbling for words. Setsuna didn't blink, but stared with a look of surprise that she would even feel embarrassed about doing karaoke! Especially doing it well! "Ah...Tsukiyoru-san, right?" She said, pulling as much as she could from memory. She stared for a moment before smiling wide and giggling slightly. "It's really nice to see you too! That was a commendable performance! Um, may we come in? I'm feeling a bit more in the spirit after watching you." She said. Looking back at Fusako she smiled with a bit of shame on her face, feeling like she really owed her something. "I suppose you should go before me, since you're taking care of me, right?" Setsuna said nervously. It was hard to let herself be taken care of this way, especially someone from her class who seemed like a really nice person. She'd have to make up for it by giving her a really good time! |

Fusako smiled. "Yes! That's what I thought... It would be more fun with friends," She couldn't help being a bit akward as she wasn't used to this much interation with people. "S- so let's have fun." She finished, a bit akwardly at the end. She bowed slightly, "I'm Yagami Fusako." She clasped her hands behind her back and looked down. Then she remembered her manners and looked back up. She reminded herself, Dont be detatched, stay with everyone. Don't go into your shell... She swallowed and took a deep breath. She had a recipe foe fun in front of her, she was going to use it. And it's not that she wasn't excited for what was happening, she was happy she wouldn't be alone and she might even make a friend! She ran her hand through her hair and smiled as they reached the door. She could not have been prepared for what was behind it. The girl was obviously embarrassed, buy why would she? She sounded great! Setsuna seemed to know this girl... She waved and smiled as Setsuna turned to look at her and said, "I suppose you should go before me, since you're taking care of me, right?" She said with a smile. "Uh... Um... Like I said... I've never done karaoke before... Maybe you should... I ... " She said, looking quite unsure. |

Yuki nearly died on the spot when she was given a "commendable performance" comment by another girl she recalled did quite well in her own karaoke endeavor back during the school festival. She practically got lost in the compliment while her eyes welled up with a volatile combination of tears and sparkles, a light blush rushing into her cheeks. The impromptu performance wasn't a complete disaster! Yuki rarely emerged from her shell when it came to singing out loud, and the festival was an exception for her as she was trying to jumpstart the cafe in the name of fundraising for a good cause. Still, she snapped out of her daze just in time for the introductions to be heard. "Please just call me Yuki! My surname has too many syllables," she responded with a wave of her hands and a small laugh. Although not standard to the custom, she preferred to be on a first-name basis with people as was her friendly nature. And she had to cover up the fact that she couldn't remember Setsuna's last name to save her life. Still, she didn't know this new girl (yet!) or how she'd react to the lack of proper formality--she could be terribly offended for all she knew--so naturally... "Nice to meet you, Fusako-san!" she said with another energetic bow. Hey, at least she didn't jump all the way to "chan," right? With a brief explanation from the manager and a clacking of her bracelets, Yuki promptly moved out of the way to allow them entry into the room resulting from a clerical error. Although she was initially happy to have a room by herself, she had a feeling adding these two to the mix would prove even more fun. Once they were in she grabbed two song books and handed them to each girl. "Here are the songs! And help yourself to the snacks, I really don't need all these for myself, eheh..." She plopped down onto one of the padded seats and clasped her hands together. "This is going to be great!" |

Setsuna smiled at Fusako, ushering her gently into the room ahead of them as Yuki showed them the room's accommodations. She'd been here a hundred times by now and knew it fairly well, but she took the book anyhow, taking a seat on the couch for a moment as she flipped about the pages. "Karaoke...is a beautiful way to show your heart, I think..." Setsuna said softly as she settled on the page she was looking for "It's not hard once you learn how great it is to show people who care about you what you're really feeling inside." Standing up and closing the book, she put it back on the stand. "You don't have to go first, I need to get warmed up anyhow, right?" Setsuna said giggling. Fusako seemed like a really sweet girl, maybe if Setsuna showed her heart to her she'd open up a little too. Stepping onto the small, wooden stage she fiddled with the machine for a moment, picking the song, speed and going 'NO LYRICS' because this was a fairly tame song with easy lyrics she knew almost by heart. Clearing her throat, the music began to start and Setsuna casually swayed back and forth, giving Yuki and Fusako both a bright, expressive smile. What better way to thank someone for saving them from a cruel manager than to sing them a song called special thanks? This was how Setsuna really felt! As the song concluded, Setsuna bowed formally before suddenly popping up and flashing a peace sign. Karaoke always had a way of getting her pumped. Dancing off the stage she held up a hand to high five Yuki before popping over Fusako's shoulder. "I hope you were looking through the book cause it's your turn Fusako-san! Maybe your song will be lucky and we'll win the lottery, huh?" She said jokingly. "If not, Yuki and I will totally be forced to pick one for you!" Setsuna was really doing her best to come across as sincere and enthusiastic but somehow she was starting to feel like she was just being annoying. |

Fusako smiled happily as Yuki showed them the room. She bowed slighly as she introduced herself. "Nice to meet you as well, Yuki-san." she said. "May I call you Yuki-san?" she asked, just a bit nervous. But, why not? She had already seemed to like her enough to call her "san" so maybe she could also get away with it. Setsuna looked throught the book went first as Fusako requested. "You don't have to go first, I need to get warmed up anyhow, right?" [/color]Setsuna said, giggling. Fusako Smiled. "Thats exactly how I feel about playing music. I haven't done karaoke, but I imagine it's much like performing..." She said as she flipped through the book. Setsuna did her song, and Fusako saw what she meant about showing her heart through karaoke. Fusako felt alot better at going now, and she just needed to find a song to do... She turned to a random page and looked from there. Finally she found one of absolute favorite J-pop songs. "Ooh ooh ooh!! this one!" She said. She was still a bit nervous, so she grabbed setsuna's hand and pulled her up off the couch. "Sing it with me!" She said with a brilliant smile. "Do you know it?" |

"May I call you Yuki-san?" Fusako asked the girl. This made her realize she didn't exactly ask Fusako's permission on how she would address her, but that was water under the bridge at this point. "Of course!" she said with a bright smile and a nod. Everyone got settled in and Setsuna volunteered herself for the next song. Yuki marveled as she put the track on the No Lyrics setting, clapping her hands in excitement. "Waaa~, Setsuna-san! You must know this song really well!" sat on one of the seats and swayed back and forth to Setsuna's song, holding up her phone like a mock lighter with a giggle. It really was a beautiful song and she had a beautiful voice, so it was very enjoyable to listen to. There was something about karaoke that brought out another side to people that either they usually didn't show, or they didn't show enough of. It was like the tiny booth allowed her to express herself in a way she couldn't anywhere else, at least not yet. When the song came to an end Yuki applauded with a huge grin and the tambourine in her hand. She was amongst some true talent, here! "I hope you were looking through the book cause it's your turn Fusako-san! Maybe your song will be lucky and we'll win the lottery, huh? If not, Yuki and I will totally be forced to pick one for you!" Yuki turned this over in her brain a few times, slight confusion setting in as she absent-mindedly scratched the end of her nose lightly with a fingertip while in thought. "So...does that mean if she doesn't pick one, we have to pick one for her? Or if we don't win the lottery while she's singing that she has to sing another song that we choose..?" She was talking more outloud to herself than anything else. Apparently Fusako had chosen a song she wanted to do with a large amount of enthusiasm and wanted Setsuna to join her on stage. Whether or not she wanted to, the purple-haired student was yanked from the couch and up to the front. "Oooh...a duet! This should be extra lucky!" Yuki exclaimed as she clasped her hands together. "We WILL be the ones to win the competition lottery today...I can feel it! GANBATTE!" she cried, punching both hands up into the air. Either she was normally this excited, or she had a bit too much sugar running through her. |
