There was a road, a road that no one chose to ever walk down. A road that no one even dared to look at, especially at night. It was a part of the suburbs that had been neglected and somewhat abandoned for god knows how long. Still, while a place like this should be deserted, someone had taken enough time to decorate it. Along either side of the darkened road, or at least what the street lights at the entrance to it revealed, where dolls. All of them lined up neatly in a row on either side of the street, their faces devoid of eyes. They might have once been pretty, might have once been the joy of every little girl to play with. Well that once was a long time ago...

Cerium stood under the light of the street-lamp, a hand on her hip and the other on the hilt of her long katana as the scabbard curved along the shape of her bum. She was wearing a set of grey, cuffed military shorts that showed off a decent portion of her legs and thighs, as well as a set of black strappy sandals that wrapped around her calve muslces.

Her hair was usually tied back in a high ponytail, however since it was night and she could be a bit more relaxed about it, tieing it around her neck and letting it fall a little looser. Still, she was considering changing it back to how it usually was as she looked down the street. She could feel her heart beating beneath her white baby-T Nickle had told her about this road and to steer clear of it, but curiosity had gotten the best of her.

She was always somewhat of a bubbly person, but in a scary situation like this, her usual good nature was finding it difficult to make itself know. "M-Maybe I should come back later...yeah...maybe I should go..."

One might wonder, why exactly would one pick to go through a grimy, dark and generally haunted road to get back to his dormitory room? It's not like he liked horror games and stories, and he definitely wouldn't want to be at the center of it all if it really does happen in real life. And believe me. Right now it looked as though the first Silent Hill had manifested itself in the real world.

Truth, he could just take a detour and take another path that can be considered a whole lot more warm and safe, but for some reason, Seth just HAD to take this creepy, derelict road, filled with as much stories as you could compile in fifty different novels, with the main focus being faceless dolls that appears every now and then. And they were claimed to be alive.

Freaky much?

Yes, he could just avoid it, IF HE COULD. But V here had become the main reason why he couldn't. That damn over-adventurous spirit and cheery tone of voice when talking about something so dark like this easily forced Seth to comply with whatever the hell it was that V had in mind. And what he had in mind, Seth doesn't like it.

So, no one had actually walked through the whole path? Intriguing~

"V-V...! Are, are you sure we can't come back later when it's daytime...?"

FOOL! What's the point of that?!

"...everything?" He said with a shaky voice, nudging Cerium lightly from behind, motioning her to move ahead in front of him. "W-well... go on! We'll... we'll be rooting for you! Yeah! We'll... stay here... where it's safe... and... when you're done, tell us what you found!" It can't be helped. He's scared shitless.

Ordinarily, Lynn considered herself a practitioner of (relatively, for someone in her position) healthy happy hobbies. Generally speaking, chasing down instances and of strange supernatural phenomena and searching for unique masters of unusual magical abilities (while it might sound like a suspicious activity for a young girl) rarely led to anything more than walking into a new age store and staring into crystals for several hours until your eyes started to cross. Hyakuji it seemed was a much more dangerous town to take up such hobbies and more often than not had led her into one precarious situation after another and between dodging fireballs and shadow minions Lynn was beginning to suspect that maybe now was a good time to consider retirement.

Rumors in Hyakuji had a different meaning than what she'd been used to back home. In the US if you heard a rumor going around school it generally involved one person having been involved in gang violence or a girl getting pregnant or other things she only knew from watching reruns of Degrassi since she was actually home schooled most of her life. Applying this to the current situation, Lynn could never admit to really being scared of creepy stuff like possessed children's toys or any other kind of traditional boogeymen like that. However what did tend make her wary was uncontrolled or unexplained magic from a native source. The only way she could think of to describe it was something like a lion tamer finding themselves in the middle of a pride of hungry lions.

Supposedly in your own element, you feel the most helpless. Which is why hunting down the source of this floating doll rumor had her a little bit of edge as she scoped out the sidewalk with her aura viewing. Lynn was starting to realize though that she wasn't getting anywhere this way. If this was someone's idea of a prank, they'd have cleaned up the traces before leaving. If it was naturally occurring magic well...let's just hope it isn't! She was a street magician, not a frigging exorcist! Still, creepy atmosphere or no it didn't look like anything was going to show up tonight. Especially not with people just casually walking down the street like that! "Eh?" She said with a smile as the two approached. "Are you guys looking for the same thing I am? How cool!" Or maybe it was just some kid and his mom out for a nighttime stroll, you never could tell with these things.

Taking a closer look at them, she almost didn't recognize Seth cowering behind the mysteriously bouncy woman. "Ah, Seth! My knight in shining armor you're uh...somewhat less knight-y tonight..." She said with a slight giggle. Poor guy could handle hordes of zombies but this weird atmosphere was too much for him?

A long road that was easily overlooked seemed to have a special allure in the waning night air. Somehow their eyes would be drawn to it as they passed, some hidden charm that was seemingly illuminated by the pale moonlight..

The road itself was was nothing special, an abandoned road that lead to a development project that hadn't been pursued for one reason another. Isolated from the rest of the city, it was a road to nowhere. And yet the road contained some magnetism to it in this particular night..

And just a short ways down it was a doll, lifeless, dirty, and with empty eyes it lay in the dirt, it's head turned just so as be staring without any actual gaze towards the group wandering these lonely streets. It was night time in Hyakuji and this was reason enough for trouble and danger to be afoot in equal parts. Hyakuji had a way of doing that. It was a volatile city and every alley had a story and a danger and a mystique.

The only question was... What did they do in the face of it?

"WAH!"

Cerium jumped up, not having realised that Seth had been behind her and drew her katana, swinging it like crazy. Of course with the distance she'd jumped, she'd only caused herself to go further into the alley where the dolls where and also was completely out of range of Seth as she swung madly. "DON'T EAT MY SOUL!" It took her a moment or two to open her eyes and see what was going on. "A-Ah....you're just a kid..." Cerium was breathing heavily, her chest rising and falling with a slight fright still in it.

She sheathed her katana, barely able to keep it steady enough to do it in one motion. "Sorry, you kinda frightened me there." It was at around that time at that Lynn showed up and Cerium looked at her with a bit of a puzzled look, still frazzled, "Oh? Do you two know each other?" Come to think of it, she had seen their faces possibly at school, they didn't look entirely unfamiliar. However, to answer Lynn's question Cerium replied, "Well...I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. I just wanted to see what all the fuss was abou-" Cerium felt a very cold chill run down her neck all of a sudden.

She turned her head first, looking over her shoulder, before turning her whole body somewhat stiffly. The doll, the one doll, was looking at them. "T-T-That doll, w-wasn't facing like that a s-second ago..." Cerium was starting to have second thoughts about this, but then another thought crept into her mind. She was technically the adult here, she was responsible for whatever Lynn and Seth did...

He faced scrunched up slighty. Ah moe! she thought in slight frustration.

"I... I'm just... I mean, I don't actually... came here to investigate... anything..." His response trailed off to nothingness as he noticed his Arcadian comrade being particularly enthusiastic about whatever was going on right here right now. He could still remember how much of a pacifist she was back then when they went on a mission together. It's kinda ironic how things could be reversed with the right situation. Like this one, in particular. Cannibalistic zombies don't exactly scare him as much, because, well... they're just zombies. Nothing more, nothing less than that. But this road have the sense of mystery, the air of something unknown and potentially dangerous to anyone. Who knows just what he'd encounter if he ever decide to venture ever so deeper down the road? And, noticing something, "Uh. Okay... okay, now that's just creepy..." Seth said, raising a trembling finger to point at a single motionless doll on the ground. Okay, so maybe having a doll or two lying around randomly like that might not actually be too strange. Little girls might have left it there when they played with them just before sunset. But yeah, even that doll had the air of mystery thing, and dolls are generally creepy either way.

"Well, what do you know! I have totally lost my interest in going through this creepy and particularly terrifying route to get back to my dorm! So I really shouldn't even take this route! I suppose the only option is to turn around and take a detour- Veeeee!!!!"

Even if he wanted to turn around he couldn't do so. Because his legs are pretty much rooted to the spot, frozen by some unknown force holding his legs from inside his own legs. Oh, don't worry too much. That's just V making sure he doesn't run off. "On second thought, going through this road might save me more time getting back," People would deem it as impossibly weird for him to change his mind so suddenly. It's like he's been possessed by something that made him change his mind or something. Well, that's not exactly far from the truth. The meta-virus inside him DOES 'possess' him about twenty four times every single day. "Well then," He said, performing a lavish bow and said, "Ladies first," waving his hand towards the road of the unknown.

Lynn stared at them both for a moment with a mixture of confusion and disappointment playing havoc with her sense of cheerful optimism and generally sunny smile. Were these two for real? It was always a kinda sad when a little girl finds out her the people she's supposed to look up to were less impressive than one had been led to believe but this was a bit silly, really. Moreover if Cerium 'sensei' (whom she'd come to recognize from the school a moment ago) didn't start getting her nerves under control she was going to fillet someone by accident. "A-anyway...Well, it was lucky you two came by. I don't know if either of you felt like helping me but I just was just looking for something like..." The two of them seemed to ignore her in favor of catching sight of something down the other side of the road.

Lynn turned around curiously, attempting to follow the line of their gaze until it fell upon a dirty lifeless doll staring back at them with a vacant expression. "Something like that." She said, pointing at it with a small smile. Well that was certainly lucky, but she'd just come from that way and hadn't see it until now. Which meant either her distinctly unique sense of observation was beginning to fail her or something magical and funky was going on! She was rather set on hoping it was the latter because well...that's precisely why she was here. Almost immediately after pointing at it the intrepid Seth seemed to lose all mustered courage in a single frantic juggling of words. Lynn frowned and turned to face him with a disappointed grimace. "C'mon, where's your sense of discovery? This could be really interesting magical phenomena!"

That seemed to do the trick though fairly quickly as he suddenly changed his mind and with a polite and hopefully somewhat courageous bow he ushered them onward towards the potentially dangerous (or possibly pranksterous) things that no doubt awaited them. "That's more like it, but don't do stuff like that just to impress a girl! It's good to want to learn more about this kinda stuff isn't it?" Turning on her hell, Lynn began walking towards the doll, holding up her fingers to get an idea of what kind of aura this thing had. Inanimate objects typically had no aura since they had no life-force but ghosts...well they were kinda complicated and seeing and Lynn had never actually MET one let alone read its aura she had no idea what it would look like anyway. Mostly she just enjoyed making that box with her fingers.

The road was a long winding dirt road, which was an apt metaphor for the project itself. Not even the path there was fully cleared before the insurmountable impediments leading to the projects completion stacked in front of it preventing it's completion. The road was dirt, it was nothing. The road to nowhere..

Along the sides of the road there were only old pieces of garbage left, besides the doll that had first caught their eye. It's looming presence fading even as they approached it.. And farther down the road lay another very similar. It's hair and dress was different but the empty sockets where eyes should have been were the same, and the dirt and mud couldn't hide the detail and quality of it's make..

Farther down from it lay another.. they sat like guardians of the road, forming a trail that went down the long road that went nowhere.

The air was still, but far away a moaning wind could be heard. The sky was thick with humidity. And surely soon there'd be rain. But perhaps none of this weighed as heavily as the electric tension of the air around them. The feeling of a brewing storm not quite ready to let loose it's savage beating. The feeling of electricity building in the sky, like the world's anticipation it built and built waiting for that first drop of rain to signal the beginning of a powerful storm.

All that was left for them was to decide, press forward or turn back?

At the end of the road sat an old run down traditional Japanese style home with nothing to offer them. A home which didn't know the meaning of hospitality. And behind them lay the road back to civilization.

Press forward, or turn back?

OOC: Many apologies >< I had a deadline that was due today and had been working solid to get it finished.

Cerium could feel her heart beating faster and faster. She wasn't one to run away from a fight or back down from anything, but she was still human after all, even if this was Hyakuji! There were some things that still got to a person, creepy dolls a long darkened road and just the overall atmosphere of fear was more than enough to set the tone to be scared, as it was with Cerium's case. However, there was one thing that she did have that could at least get her through this. It was her responsibility as a teacher. Knowing that both Seth and Lynn were going to press forward, she couldn't leave knowing that if something happened to them the guilt would probably kill her faster than anything she encountered here tonight.

With her heart still shaking in her chest, she kept one hand on the hilt of her katana as she began to move down the alley way. She smiled thankfully at Seth for his politeness, even in a time such as this and moved a little past Lynn to get a better look down the road before turning to her and speaking, "Aren't you worried you'd make it mad by...examining it like that?" said Cerium swallowing a small bit of spittle in at the end of her sentence.

WRONG.

Ah, if only she knew just how much he wanted to scamper away from that place she'd have voted to get out of there as fast as possible as well. Except, with V taking control of his body he had absolutely no way of letting anyone know just how much he would like to just stay in his dorm room and sleep all the way through the night without any worries about devilish demonic looking children toys.

And it's kinda ironic. HE thought SHE was eager to go ahead to investigate, and HE was the one who felt wrong about simply leaving them to their own devices. It's just a part of his quirk. He'd rather be the one who took all the responsibility than let others take it for him. Even now V still couldn't understand that self-sacrificing nature of his. But heck, right now he's grateful of it, because~... "Uh... w-wait... hold on!" He nervously stepped forward, little by little before catching up with the other two.

Bingo~
