He may seem dry or calculated to outsiders, Takeshi is a very kind individual. The boy merely doesn't express it very well, due to his time as a hikikomori. Takeshi has grown accustomed to being anti-social. Although, through his mentor's repeated attempts at socialization, Takeshi has become far more talkative. Takeshi is also very analytical, taking his time to contemplate his actions. This can become a curse/hindrance, as it makes him appear indecisive at times. Takeshi's calculated decision making comes from his love of "Go" and "Shogi", not to mention the Philosophy books and books on Battlefield tactics that his mentor hammered into him. Though despite his tendencies to shy away, he really does long to find a group of companions. Though he is very driven, and goal oriented; Takeshi is definitely no slacker when it comes to his studies. Perhaps his hikikomorism caused this particular change inside of him. Finally, Takeshi is a fairly moral and upstanding citizen; however,if a rule or law does not fit into his paradigm he will ignore it for his personal beliefs. This doesn't necessarily put him at odds with authority, as he is fairly neutral when it comes to laws. If the laws suit his ideals, then he is fine and will go with them. If they do not fit into his sense of logic or justice, then Takeshi will find his own path. Personal History: For a good portion of his life, Takeshi was a normal child. About the only abnormal thing about him was his distinct love of board games; such as, Go and Shogi. This was instilled in him at a young age by his Father, teaching him about the strategy involved. Takeshi ate this up quite rabidly, and soon found himself beating his father. Upon entering Elementary School, he found that he wasn't the only student who had a love of board games. A rival emerged, and she proved far more adept than his father. They battled to several draws on a daily basis, on their free time of course. Several years passed and Takeshi and his rival, Ami, had become his best friend. They were great friends and were going to the same Junior High together; however, not everything goes as planned in life. Just before entering Junior High, Ami died in a tragic car accident alongside her Father. Takeshi was absolutely devastated, he had no rival and nobody to break his draw with. Takeshi did not have any other close friends either. This caused a withdrawal into the shell that was his room, he continued to hone his skills. Playing Shogi and Go on the computer and not returning to the outside world. Insomnia set in, and Takeshi became absolutely obsessed with winning against the highest level computer setting. One night, Takeshi saw a Fox outside of his window. It was curious to him, and he decided to follow the creature. It led him to darker places, a mirror of the Ikebukoro he knew and loved. It seemed like months, but Takeshi kept chasing the fox; while avoiding the shadow creatures that plagued this strange Dark City. Until he was eventually able to return him, except things had changed. Takeshi's family did not recognize him, and in his place was an exact duplicate. This duplicate and his family ran him away, calling him an intruder. Takeshi would later learn about how this other Ikebukuro had affected him. But at the time he was cold and alone, stealing food to get by, one day when he was fourteen, Takeshi attempted to steal from a man. This man was a foreigner, who was living in an apartment over a book store that he owned. This man was a former United States Marine, and quickly dispatched this young boy. The foreigner, Alexander Hayward, took Takeshi in and gave him a job and a place to stay. Saying that his kindness was penance for his deeds in the military, he scooped the boy up and mentored him on a daily basis. Focusing on Philosophy and the strategies of war, he was a fan of Go and Shogi as well; not to mention western games Takeshi had never played. Takeshi read many different books, and eventually returned to middle school; the boy was on the verge of going to High School. Takeshi finally learned of his powers soon after this; causing very tiny explosions with books in the store. Completely unsure as to how to control this power, he happened upon a book on origami. This seemed to focus his energies, and with effort and help from Alexander; Takeshi was able to become even more adept at his new found powers. It was after two years of this that Alexander learned of Hyakuji High School and suggested that Takeshi transfer there on his sixteenth birthday. Takeshi did as Alexander had suggested, moving to Hyakuji High School; unsure of himself, but he knew this school might provide the answers he needed. His desire to learn more about the dark world he entered, and the Fox he followed. Who or what the surrogate was when he returned home. What his new found powers were meant to do. Finally, realizing his dream of becoming a Professor of Philosophy, and returning to his family one day. Mashed Potatoes? There is no spoon. |
