"Yes, it was odd though, my papers said I was in my mid to late 20s but I somehow kept this body. It took awhile but I was accepted into one." Lorenzo stated as he started with the fish, first starting with a tentative bite-sized bit to sample its quality, and the electromancer's expression was all Selene needed to see to know he'd liked it so far. The corporate heiress wondered what kind of an appetite Lorenzo would possess, or if that would be enough - because as far as food goes, the English heiress was all for a pleasurable culinary experience as opposed to simply having a full stomach. But that much couldn't be said of Lorenzo though. But if he were still hungry after this meal, she supposed she could treat him to another meal later. "Now that's quite a curious turn of events," Selene remarked as she took another sip of water. Somehow the process of 'jumping' from his home dimension to Hyakuji had caused him to de-age from his early 20's into an 18-year old - but when she thought that when he ended up back in his native plane of existence the de-aging process somehow didn't reverse and he still retained his (current) body of an 18-year old; and somehow time had warped in the span of time he'd spent on Hyakuji, going from originally 21-23 years of age to 25 or so years in the space of months. "But dimension-hopping is weird like that, especially when transitioning from one set of laws to a totally different one - you'd think you'd be restored to your original age when you returned, but ended up still having the body of an 18-year old, seems like time works really different in your world compared to Hyakuji," Selene mused; dimension-hopping had been one of her favorite topics as far as magic was concerned, but she wasn't really here to talk with Lorenzo about magic. "Was providing security, ended up in the wrong end of an argument, and so...I ate a grenade." Lorenzo continued, in-between his mouthfuls of grilled fish, his statement eliciting a slight raise of an eyebrow from Selene, who was already seeing a pattern to how Lorenzo tended to jump from his world into hers. Somehow, it always had to involve getting killed in some way - first there was the explosion that caved-in the ruins that supposedly crushed him to death, but instead brought him here in Hyakuji, a few years younger. And then he returned to Hyakuji once more after a grenade explosion which again, probably killed him. Now that was hardly a pleasant experience, but to the best of her knowledge travel between planes of existence was never a pleasant experience, whether it be the act of entering and exiting gateways, as well as the rigors placed on the mortal body during the process of dimensional travel. And that, she had experienced it firsthand during the Kingdom Hearts incident. Needless to say, it was really a memory she felt she could do without. "How long has it been? What have I missed?" The electromancer asked. "I'm not too sure of the exact figures myself," Selene replied with a slight frown - it wasn't like she knew the exact date when Lorenzo vanished from Hyakuji, but she had a rough idea that it was approximately three months or so ago when she mysteriously lost all contact with the electromancer; give or take she hadn't seen - and wasn't able to track down at all - Lorenzo when it was what, Autumn? "But it was around the beginning of Autumn when I all but lost all contact with you... and now it's late Winter. So give or take, you'd been out of the loop for an entire season..." the corporate heiress continued, looking wistfully at Lorenzo with her chin resting on the back of her interlaced hands. ![]() "The school's situation continues to remain dire - you probably weren't around when it happened, but all our fund-raising efforts to date had turned out unsuccessful due to either blackmails or sabotages, and apparently, a rival school from another town was behind this..." the corporate heiress' tone changed into one of veiled anger as she spoke of what was happening to Hyakuji High. |

Lorenzo laughed a bit. "I figured, it was a bit too cold and the wind was like knives when I came back, compared to the North African desert." He continued to eat until she said something about the school's problems. At that point, the tinkling of silverware upon ceramic stopped. A rival school? Did she just say what she said? He can accept something farfetched such as withdrawal of government support, which he was sure would come due to their stupid tournament, but, a rival school? "Forgive me...did I just hear you right? A rival school from the other town pressured our sponsors to withdraw support, and I'm guessing, racked up our bills and if they have that much power, probably have half the Japanese Diet in their pocket. I'm not saying they do, but if bad television has any say, that seems like the most logical choice." He muttered something to himself as he started eating, something along the lines of 'from a padded cell to a straight jacket and wheelchair' or 'frying pan into the fire'. Clearly the news was dire, but still. It sounded...weird to him. He continued eating, restraining himself from picking up the slab of fish and nomming it quickly. It was because he was in the presence of a heiress, a modern-day princess, that he decided to just try not to be a neanderthal in front of her. He brushed part of his har aside, and noticed her eyes gazing on him. He stared back, eyes locking for a moment, before he realized he was probably looking stupid and looked away, color filling his cheeks as he started to yammer on. "How is everyone, especially with this going on." He asked, trying to avert his gaze from her. Still as pretty as he last saw her. |

"I figured, it was a bit too cold and the wind was like knives when I came back, compared to the North African desert." Selene stifled a giggle at Lorenzo's reply. She hasn't personally been to either the Middle East or North Africa herself, but her eldest brother and her father have made a couple of trips to the UAE before, due to the presence of Frostfire Industries facilities over in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The corporate heiress was never a fan of hot places, but she figured she'd prefer an equatorial climate over an arid one any day. At least in the tropics there was always the option of chilling at the beach in swimwear, while having large amounts of exposed skin in the desert was nothing less than a fast ticket to dehydration and heat stroke. Or in other words, suicide. Lorenzo stopped tucking in as soon as Selene brought up the school's problems, which hadn't only not changed since the festival, but had in fact gotten worse as the apparent mastermind had reared its head, and to further complicate matters, it was clear that Kaimu High currently holds all the trump cards in their deck. "Forgive me...did I just hear you right? A rival school from the other town pressured our sponsors to withdraw support, and I'm guessing, racked up our bills and if they have that much power, probably have half the Japanese Diet in their pocket. I'm not saying they do, but if bad television has any say, that seems like the most logical choice." "I wish it could've been as simple as a case of myself hearing it wrong," Selene sighed as she lowered her head to look at the half-finished glass of water sitting on the table. "But the fact remains is that Hyakuji isn't the only school for metahumans in this country, let alone the world... and as far as being the premier school for metahumans in Japan goes, it seems that this rival school is set on running us into the ground... I just wondered why. Maybe they weren't happy that they aren't the most popular around, but whatever it is, as a daughter in a line of businesspersons I'm no stranger to this. It's as those in the business world would term as 'cutthroat competition'... that's the harshness of the real world." As Selene locked eyes with Lorenzo once more she couldn't help but notice that the electromancer had his eyes on her, his showing more color as he yammered on. This didn't quite come as a surprise to Selene; it wasn't unusual for people from different social strata to experience some degree of awkwardness, mostly due to concerns from the one from a lower social stratum on the possibilities on making a social faux pas in the presence of an aristocrat. "How is everyone, especially with this going on." Lorenzo asked as he slowly got back to his meal, still trying to avoid looking at Selene straight in the eye. In Western cultures, eye-to-eye contact is a sign of attentiveness and respect; but Selene knew that in most Eastern cultures averting direct eye contact is often a show of submissiveness and respect, especially when dealing with authority figures, nobility and generally speaking anyone of a higher status than oneself; which was the reason court officials spoke to the emperor with bowed heads, never looking at the ruler straight in the eye. Was her presence making Lorenzo go all demure? "We're hanging on," Selene replied with a smile as she leaned back in her seat, taking her arms off the table and resting her hands them on her lap, right over the left. "These are trying times for sure, but everyone's doing everything they can to make sure that we can keep Hyakuji High afloat." The corporate heiress sighed; she wished she could've done more to salvage the situation, but after consulting with senior Frostfire Industries executives that she shared close rapport with it was confirmed that there was no way the company could help the school without significantly undermining its profit margins in the Asian market; and as the schools seem to be drawn inexorably on a collision course, Selene could only wonder what could result from it? |

Arcs of electricity can be seen between clumps of hair on Lorenzo's head. He was a tad pissed. he thought the problem really was just bad bookkeeping. But seriously? "This...what has the teachers done...I also expect something like some of our more...headstrong members to do a turf fight. Is Japan going to be the next South Central Los Angeles?" Lorenzo mused, before finishing up the fish and draining his glass. He held off the dessert and like Selene, rested his head on his head on his hands. Well it's more the Gendou Ikari version but he was more or less thinking. Thinking and annoyed. A fight between normal humans was common, but only recently in modern times did metahumans really manifest themselves in such a public way. He was one of those, naturally born electromancer, yet abducted and spent what would've been his elementary school years in some God forsaken section of Navada's Groom Lake facility. At least there he was instilled with some measure of discipline, morals, whatnot. But a rival group, most likely fighting for supremacy and bragging rights over all the Japanese schools like Hyakuji. Eventually the Government needs to be involved, but if this rival school was able to pressure the long time supporters of the school, it's possible that they've been planning this a long time. 10 years possibly. Infiltration of the government, well placed people and contacts. The Japanese bureaucracy was more prone to such things due to its composition. The more he dwelled on the subject, the calmer he became. Best think first, rash actions are always dependent on the situation. He can't just go hoppin' mad and go do stuff. He didn't know about his own situation, nor does he know about this whole deal. To rush off now is to fall against every bit of training he had. "What's that rival school's name? The way I figured it, they have lots of people in their pockets, or they've been planning this for a very, very, very long time." He stared at Selene, noticing the young heiress before him. His features softened a bit as he smiled. "...still as pretty as ever." He blushed slightly, and made for his dessert. It just came out, and he's more than willing to blame the jump for this if she asked. But should he? |

"I'm certainly hoping they're not going to try anything foolhardy, like challenging them to a fight or something," Selene commented as she finished off her glass of water. "But what could our teachers do? As teachers they're supposed to keep us students in check - if they get themselves involved in this inter-school rivalry who's to say the teachers from the other school won't get themselves involved as well... like any good teacher I'm sure they too have their students' best interests in mind, just like our own... I say, there's going to be a war on our hands if that happens." the corporate heiress looked on as after being done with the fish and juice Lorenzo rested his head on a pair of hands that were folded together, much like how she had been doing moments ago, currently holding off from dessert. At any rate, an all-out war between two schools full of metahumans would be disastrous to say the least, they'd at least be expecting something on the level of the joint mission against Wo Shing's Hyakuji hideout... "What's that rival school's name? The way I figured it, they have lots of people in their pockets, or they've been planning this for a very, very, very long time." Selene nodded at Lorenzo's remark. To be able to sabotage the festival in what could be described as a 'professional' way, it was clear that on top of all their resources the students from Kaimu had been doing their homework, gathering intelligence on Hyakuji, planning well ahead their moves. "Kaimu High School," Selene replied a matter-of-factly. "Named after the city they came from, Kaimu. It's about an hour or two's drive away from Hyakuji. Compared to Hyakuji, Kaimu's a fairly large metropolis - more heavily built-up and urbanized as opposed to Hyakuji's more rustic environment. Frostfire Industries originally planned to established their Asia-Pacific headquarters there, but suffice to say that plan never saw fruition..." the English heiress trailed off as she noticed that Lorenzo was staring at her, his expression softening. "...still as pretty as ever." "Uh, thank you?" Selene replied, feeling somewhat uncomfortable under Lorenzo's gaze as she placed her right hand over her mouth as her cheeks turned pink, trying not to get any funny ideas into her mind. |

Lorenzo stammered for a moment before digging into the dessert. It'd be an awkward few minutes with only the sound of his silverware and his eating. It seemed that after that little burst of his inner feelings, that the room got deathly quiet. Drinking some of his drink, he finally got the courage to continue. "Suppose our teachers go and join in. What if it was what they wanted us to do. A bunch of metahumans, seeing their beloved school go down the toilet. It doesn't take the likes of one Tom Clancy or Daniel Silva or any other author of cheap paperback political thrillers." He left that hanging as he finished his dessert. Setting the silverware down, he mused again, this time avoiding staring at Selene. "I can't really imagine what else they've gotten planned. If they're professional enough to sabotage our efforts in making money, as well as cutting off our funding, pocketing politicians to keep funds from going to us, well. They've gotten us. We can fight, but I'm sure we're being lead to things we don't want to do if we knew about them." He finally looked at her. "Sorry, about my earlier comment. That was a bit...rude of me." His momentary softened gaze once again disappeared, to one looking as his mind was not there. |
