Meglumar was no stranger to different religions. Traveling from world to world had let him see a lot of variety. As a result he'd seen a lot of places that these religions worshiped at. Some where fantastical and gaudy, some were plain and simple. Some had gold piled to the ceiling, others were plain and wooden. This? It seemed to be a good balance. Meglumar blinked, quite impressive a place. He hadn't seen such a unique style before. Well, no. He'd seen it in Manga. But the real thing was much different. VERY much different. He took a few steps forward, his head just turning back and forth looking it all over. He'd been in town for a long while. Still, he'd never had a reason to come here. At the moment, though, he needed to get out of the house. He'd recently become a big brother....and the noise was becoming unbearable. So, well...what better excuse to take a long walk? He walked over to some statues, looking them over. They were interesting, to say the least, but he had one question about them. "...What in the world are these things?" |

"Those would be....hmm, ah! Dosojin! Dosojin refers to ShintÅ and Buddhist deities of roads and borders. These deities reside in protective stone markers found at village boundaries, in mountain passes, and along country byways. Also called Sai no Kami or Dorokujin in some areas." Lynn read aloud as her finger followed along the text. The magician had come here for similar reason to her magical compatriot, though less in the spirit of culture and more in the spirit of learning about the magic hidden in the eastern temples and texts. The Arcadian library had been a big help, but as helpful as reading was, it was difficult to find a local practitioner to show her the ropes. Maybe Hyakuji was just TOO diverse. "Ah and over here are I...Ishidor...Ishidoro! Stone lanterns, the earliest introduced into Japan and... oh rats that's no good there's nothing magical about those at all...Hrm.." Lynn seemed to lose her focus in talking to the boy as her nose disappeared into the book, looking up only occasionally to examine a statue or two. After a few moments of silence, while examining a..."Ma...Magaibutsu?" Her voice faded back into his hearing range. "My name's Lynn by the way, Lynn Monroe." Despite her friendly tone, her gaze didn't seem to shift from her subject. |

Meglumar blinked as a voice spoke up in response to his question. For a second he almost thought it was the statue itself. Hey, this was Hyakuji, it could happen, and probably HAS happened before too! But no, he turned his head and saw a girl reading from a book. Huh. Well that was interesting. These things were markers for boundaries, and symbols for gods of traveling. That was something he hadn't heard too often. She then wandered over to some stone lanterns, before noting the lack of magics in them. Huh. Was she a magician as well? She looked over some other statues before giving her name. "Pleased to meet you. My name is Meglumar, of the Odai family. Did you just mention magic? Are you by any chance a practitioner?" He asked, wanting to get that out of the way. "You know much of the religious iconography. Or at least, your book does." He commented on afterwards. Meglumar wasn't exactly the biggest book buff. He enjoyed fiction, and he TRIED to enjoy books on magic. Everything else, not so much. |

"Pleasure." She said a bit loosely, still examining one of the lanterns rather closely. After staring at it for what felt like over a minute, she let go of the book with one hand, slapping her free palm against her face and falling to the ground on her butt in defeat. "Argh, I'm not learning anything this way!" Lynn had never realized how simple having magic parents will all those awesome connections had made her tutelage until now. Trying to find a random source of magic in a foreign land where she only barely knew the language and couldn't find a local practitioner to save her life was more difficult than finding a cop on Las Vegas Blvd. Sighing, Lynn turned back to the guy she was talking to, getting a better look at his youthful features. O'Die, huh? He didn't really look Irish at all. "Check it, I'm totally an awesome magician, straight from the Vegas underground." She said, opening her coat to show off her costume as the levitating staff floated out of its folds. "Mary Lynn Monroe, master of illusions and escape! I was just...well, I was looking for some kind of reference for understanding the magic in this country. That book isn't helping in the slightest" Lynn frowned, closing her coat back up and walking around the lantern a little, walking stick floating behind her in tow. Taking off her hat, she tossed the book inside apathetically, a little disappointed in it. That was the last time she took a reference from a librarian. "Are you big a fan of magic? I could show you a few tricks if you want, I'm always up expanding my audience, y'know?" |
