Too many people? Hookay... serious case of hikikomori. Just what sort of life had she been through all this time? But even living such a secluded life shouldn't have that much of an impact to turn socializing as a form of fear, right? Ah, what the heck. Pulling gently on her hand, he gave her a small reassuring smile and said, "Don't worry about it. There's nothing to worry about too much people," Keeping his hand held onto hers he guided her across the sea of people, weaving left and right avoiding any contact from anyone around. Well, it was more like making sure she doesn't get into contact with anyone. He certainly doesn't mind.

The restaurant door opened with a ding, and the atmosphere inside the restaurant was a whole lot more different than the ones outside. It was quiet, dingy, and almost completely barren of people. There's a few couple of them at the far corner of the restaurant, but they don't count. Shouldn't be too surprising since Subarashi Restaurant is a whole lot more popular than this little shack at the streets. Still not releasing her hand he pulled her over to one of the table, motioning her to sit as he sat himself. The waiter came moments after Seth called for him, bringing with him two small booklets filled with the types of dishes they serve here. Suffice to say, there's a whole lot of stuff to choose from, ranging from something you could buy with a few hundred yens, to the ones where you need to empty your wallet for it. He picked up his own booklet, flipping the pages in search for something that might tingle his taste bud. Frankly, he's feeling kinda peckish himself. "Anything you like?"

Gail sat down slowly. This was the first time she had ever sat down to eat in a restaurant. It was something that she had wanted to do for a long time.

It was like an alternate world from the place just outside. It was suddenly very quiet and empty, much to the girl's preference. She had watched the process many times. This person would come to the table once and set down glasses of water and these books, and then walk away. Then he would come back later and the people sitting down would give the books back, then the person would return again with food. It seemed simple enough, but she still felt as though it were some odd thing she had to decode.

She opened the menu and began looking through it. She didn't recognize most of the names, because she had never heard of the foods before. It was like the booklet was in a foreign language. She read through it in vain, looking for something that she at least knew how to pronounce.

"Sorry..." She said to the boy sitting across from her, "What are the words in this book...?"

His entire body froze out of shock and disbelief, staring at her with empty cold lifeless eyes and dead zombie-like smile. Not that zombies can actually smile, but you get the idea. Or not. Whatever. But still, this has got to be the whole new level of the effects of isolation. He's not sure whether she has been living an isolated life all this time, but he couldn't help but think that she might have. But this... this... well. Put it this way. Even the most hardcore hikikomori whould know what natto is.

Recovering from his stupor he shut his menu book shut and handed it over to the waiter, who took it with a bit of a surprise. But he'd be in an even more surprise as Seth then said, "Bring me everything you got," The waiter went wide-eyed with such request, unsure if he should be rejoicing the sudden fortune to befall upon their unpopular store, or if he should be worried about the boy's state of mind. Nevertheless, he didn't complain, as he made his way back to the kitchen, where a sudden muffled yelp could be heard moments later.

Seth placed his hands together in front of him, taking the posture of an evil genius contemplating something important. And it was definitely important. "Looks like you need some lessons about the outside world," In his eyes you could see the raging flames of determination dancing about like mad. This is no longer a simple lunch. This, is war.

Not long after their order started to come, one by one. And slowly but surely, the table that were quite barren and dusty just a few minutes ago was laden with meals of every shape and sizes that you could imagine. Some of them fairly common, yet some of them a little bit too exotic you would wonder why didn't this particular food chain get any popularity with the public. "Right, here we have the shrimp tempura, miso soup, mapo tofu, yakisoba, lasagna, bruschetta, blablabla..." He went on and on with his naming as more and more dishes arrive at their table. Not waiting for the waiters to stop, he picked up a plate of spaghetti carbonara, taking a pair of chopstick and, "If I have to teach you how to eat too I will do it," he said, with full intention of feeding her if she doesn't even know how to feed herself. Of course, he might as well have gone too far by assuming she can't, but whatever. The chopstick was already right in front of her mouth, currently holding pastas ready to be shoved in her mouth.

Perhaps he forgot about who's gonna be paying for all these.

Girl's Cage

Even Gail's lifeless, zombie face showed some surprise as the table began to fill with food. It was more food than she had ever seen at once in her entire life. She listened intently as the boy named everything, memorizing it all. Every time he spoke, she repeated the name to herself.

She had never even considered the possibility that she could be given more than one plate of food at a time. To her, it was like a breach of the laws of physics. For her entire childhood, only one plate had ever been allotted to her.

"Is this really...all for me...?" She said it as though it were something impossible. "I can...choose......?"

Gail had never used chopsticks before. She had watched people use them in the past, but they were more complicated to work with than they looked to be. In truth, she was a bit intimidated. She didn't know how to use these tools, and she didn't know how to make choices.

Gently, she leaned forward, eating the pasta that the boy had held out. It was the first time in her entire life that she had eaten something other than hamburger and rice. The taste was alien to her...taste itself was alien to her. But even so...

"It's...really...really...good..."

Even with an unimaginable amount of food in front of her, she savored that one bite as though it were the last pasta on the planet. She picked up her chopsticks, and grabbed another bite of the same dish, just as she had seen him do, and took a second bite. She ate it because she liked it. She had really chosen to do something just because she wanted to do it.

She looked down at all the other foods that the boy had given her. She tried to pick up some of the miso soup with the chopsticks, but of course, that didn't work very well. It wasn't like daggers, where you could use the same kind of blade to kill anyone. She thought back to the times that she had watched people eat, and found her spoon.

Her spoon had always been what she used to eat rice. That was all it meant to her. She would count exactly how many spoonfuls of rice there were as she ate them. Using them to eat something else would be as if the world had been warped. Part of her even expected the soup to taste like rice, simply because she ate it with a spoon. But it didn't. It had an odd taste that she had never known before.

It was just like she imagined it would be. All of the foods were different, but at the same time, they were all so pleasing. And somehow, just like that, the world became a little less scary...

"Well, don't you learn fast," Thought Seth as he placed down the plate full of spaghetti right in front of her, which was a task that gradually got harder and harder to do with each passing second due to the endlessly coming dishes. Well, of course, even that don't last forever, as the waiter stopped bringing them any more new dishes after exhausting an entire book of them. However there was no doubt that the chef and the manager were cooking up even more new recipe back there in the kitchen.

He had to hold back the small desire to laugh when she tried to pick up the miso soup with the chopstick (only to use the spoon moments later). It's really kinda strange to see someone his age and size fumble around with something that would be considered as 'common sense' by the rest of the world. She really looked a lot like a child at the moment. Not physically, of course, but her demeanor could easily make someone think that she's someone who cannot survive in the outside world and needs to be protected.

Not that he'd thought of her like that.

No, really. Seriously.

...

He decided to indulge himself in the dishes he had taken the initiative to order, and was starting to regret his rash and blind action. Looks like he's gonna have to do another week's worth of part time job to pay all these off. And who the heck are going o finish all of these? Yeah, he have a big appetite, but not THAT big. And it was really because of V that people kept on seeing him as a voracious eater who could empty an entire day's worth of meal in one minute. And as for her... doesn't seem like a big eater. "Wait, I haven't told you my name yet, have I? Just call me Seth,"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BAM!
The door of the restaurant flung open with such force that it slammed at the wall next to it before bouncing back on the person who opened it, slamming on his rugged mustached face, causing the person to yelp in pain as the door smashed his nose. "Rats..." He muttered angrily, rubbing his sore red nose as he walked into the restaurant with a frown on his face. The man had some pretty bad day since this morning. Firstly all of his deliverymen, whom he have always entrusted with the delivery of all the food materials he sells to other people, have all decided to mysteriously take sick leave together. Then some crazy kid who seemed to love talking to himself showed up, offering him some help in getting some of his errands done. Naturally, he didn't give up the kind offer.
He regretted it later though, as it had been a few hours since that kid was gone. Damn kid must've made his way with all his natto. He really shouldn't have trusted someone crazy enough to be talking with some imaginary friend named after a consonant word. And adding a few more troubles along the way, he decided this should be the best time to cool himself down a slight bit with a little lunch break.
So he decided to have his lunch at the very good yet highly unpopular restaurant just down the street.
The restaurant was, as expected, pretty quiet. As it has always been all this time. There's just not enough atmosphere around this place to keep it lively enough to attract any more new customers. It's been here for as long as he could remember, and he could only remember it had been here for around a few years ago. Meh, no time for some nostalgic moments. Time for some lunch-...?
Among the usual lackluster scenery of the restaurant, something seemed off. Very, very off. In fact, it's so off, he really couldn't call the scene lackluster anymore. Heck, it's very lively, for some reason. And the reason was immediately apparent the moment his eyes traveled to the source, and his top blew off. For some reason. It was that vagrant kid from earlier, that little cheatin' loiterer who was supposed to be doing him some errands, like delivering NATTO for example! And look at what he's doing, lounging his ass off at some restaurant havin' a buffet with a girl! DAMN YOUTH!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Now that was pretty random. Some random guy barging through the door doing something random, pretty normal around here. And he doesn't look too happy to be he- wait a minute, isn't that guy...

"BOOOYYYY!!!"
Seth gulped on the spot. He had completely forgotten all about the natto incident and subsequently everything else related to the natto, and that includes the fact that he was supposed to go around delivering natto to people for that particular guy that had just entered the restaurant instead of "LOITERING AROUND AND SLACKING OFF, EH?!"

"Um! Uh, uh, It's... it's not what you think- UUAAH!!!" He pitifully and fruitlessly tried to talk his way out of this and was grabbed unceremoniously and roughly by his collar. Oh boy, that guy looked pretty damn pissed as he showers the manhandled and terrified Seth with spits and angry middle-aged man lectures.

"Your name is Seth...?" Gail said, confused. "Before, you told me a different name...at the school, when you introduced yourself, you said 'I'm Sorry, I'm Sorry, I'm Sorry...'"

BAM!

Gail's arm twitched. The violent entry had immediately sent her mind into battle mode. The previous 'natto attack' had been a false alarm, but this man seemed extremely enraged. At first, she took a defensive stance as he shouted things that she didn't understand. But then, he roughly grabbed Seth, pulling him out of his seat. The boy looked terrified.

An assailant-

The strike came quickly. Gail set her sights on the man's diaphragm, delivering a blow that would stop his respiratory system in its tracks.

He would have face-palmed himself if it wasn't for the fact that he was currently being manhandle right now. In fact, he was too busy enduring the man's pep-talk he didn't even realize what Gail was up to, until V piped up inside his head, Kid, killer aura on the loose somewhere!

At that moment he had no idea what V was talking about. There was almost none around this place that looked to be a potential killer or something, except for the guy roughing him up right now. He turned his head around, and the girl's action came into his line of sight. Immediately Seth knew something bad was gonna happen. "Wait, GAIL, STOP!!!"

With a little bit more ease than he was supposed to he wrenched the man's hand off from himself and swiftly grabbed her striking hand, right before it managed to hit the man's diaphragm. "What are you doing, Gail?" He said, his eyes wide in surprise. The man stood there, dumbfounded at the current situation. One moment he was taking out his anger on the vagrant boy, and next moment it looked like the boy had just saved his life from ending. Or at least, saved him from an otherwise imminent unconsciousness. "Hey! What's the meanin' of this?!"

"...I was eliminating a threat." Gail said simply, "This man was bringing harm to you. He may have come for me next." She didn't know much about the outside world, but she did know what fear looked like. She had seen it on the faces of many of her targets, and she had seen it on Seth. She was sure that this man was trying to hurt them.

She had acted without thinking. She was trying to keep her assassination skills a secret. She lucked out the first time that the boy had simply not seen her dodge the flying natto, but...

If he begins to suspect, I may have to kill him after all...

It wasn't something she wanted to do, after he had taken her out and given her all of this food. But she couldn't let herself be bogged down by sentimental things. The mission came first, always. She couldn't let anyone figure out her true identity before she could kill Tsukasa.

For now, though, she could let him live. She would for as long as she was able. She slowly pulled her hand back, letting her killer instincts recede. She didn't know what was going on, but Seth seemed to think that there wasn't a threat even when the man was very close to choking him. But the assailant seemed to have given pause as well.

"Uh... well..." He scratched his head, unable to make head or tail of that sort of reasoning. "He wasn't trying to hurt me! And I assure you, he won't be bringing any harm," He reassured her, releasing her hand from his grip. It was all too obvious as to where the killer intent had come from. He couldn't actually sense it, but a natural killer like V would be able to, and from the situation, all fingers had pointed directly at her.

Well, he really couldn't care less about whether she's actually an assassin hired by some underground organization to kill off a certain someone. Other than the fact that it sounded quite ridiculous and totally ludicrous to actually be believable, he's more concerned about someone losing a life. Or at least... having to spend his entire life crippled or something similar...

"Oh, you can sure as well bet I WAS tryin' to hurt you! What's the meanin' of this?! What the hell are you you doin' here when you're supposed to go around deliverin' stuff for me?! I ain't got shit to do with you, kid, you're gonna-" He was cut short when a piece of paper was shoved up his face. On it was written a phone number. Or more specifically, Jameson's phone number. "Call him if you need compensation. And about the meals..." He turned over to the waiter and the owner of the restaurant whom had decided to come out to check on all the rackets. "Put it on his tab," He said, jabbing at the piece of paper.

Not wishing to spend any more time in this kinda awkward atmosphere, he took hold of Gail's hand, immediately steering her towards the door of the restaurant. He had a feeling that if they stayed there, thing's are just gonna escalate. Though he had absolutely no reason to back up his thoughts. "Well, nice meeting you all!"

The door opened with a fancy sounding tune as the bell chimed, leading them to the now-less-busy street. There wasn't exactly as much people as there was before. Maybe they spent their time in there a bit too long that they didn't even realize that time had already slipped by a lot. Well, there's something a bit more important to address. He turned over to Gail, putting on a stern expression and looked right into her eyes with a slight look of anger. "Now, while I might be grateful that you did whatever you tried to do earlier for me, but keep this in mind. You don't go around hitting people whenever you have the chance. Even if they might look dangerous,"

Gail stared back at the restaurant forlornly. Her emotional signals were very slight, and her face did not differ much from normal. Part of her wanted to cry, but she didn't know how to.

"...We...left the food behind..." Gail said slowly, "...I didn't get to try all of it..."

She didn't understand at all. The man had broken in, ruined her happy moment, and threatened Seth. He was clearly terrified. She knew that face with certainty. It was a face that she had seen on many of her targets in the past. The boy even told her himself that he was grateful for what she did. Why was I wrong?

Gail didn't really know what kind of thing she was supposed to say in this kind of situation. So she just stood there silently, still looking back at the building instead of at Seth. She didn't understand her own feelings either. She knew that there was plenty more food in the world, but somehow, she felt something that she hadn't even felt when her father died. She felt as though she had lost something important.

Is that really all she could think of after attempting to assassinate a person right in front of everyone like that? Not that he really thought she's gonna kill him, but he trusted V's ability to sense killer intents as much as he trusted the back of his own hand, seeing as he's a killer himself. There was little to no doubt that she was the one who emitted the killer aura. It's not hard to piece the two parts together. And with such little regards to a human's life like that... it was a bit unsettling, to see someone his own age to have no qualms about killing. But then again, Chetri's a whole lot younger than he is.

...is she? She looks small enough...

He would have continued the little pep talk, but there was something on her face that stopped him from going with the momentum. It was small, slight, barely even noticeable if one simply took a side way glance at her. But as tactless as he is, he's not the kind of person to let go of something so damn obvious right in front of his eyeballs like that. Immediately he took off any expression that might imply anger or discontent from his face and put on his usual reassuring smile, before placing his hand on her head. "Don't worry about those. We can always get some some other time. ...as for now, why don't we try some of those?" He pointed over to a crepe van, with currently no one huddling up to it.

Gail hadn't had but a few bites of food in the restaurant, so she was definitely still hungry. But she had never heard of or even seen a crêpe before, and had no idea what they were. But nothing she had tried so far had tasted bad.

She stood there for a moment before she realized that Seth was waiting for her approval. She hesitantly gave a silent nod. She wasn't used to being asked whether or not she wanted to do something. Aside from taking on contracts, of course.

"...In the restaurant..." Gail began a question, "...you were referring to a person who was not present." As ignorant as she was of the world, she was smart enough to figure out that the restaurant wasn't going to ask a slip of paper to pay for the food. "Who was it that was paying for the meals?"

He at least have enough in his pocket to pay for two crepes. Well, just enough for him to buy two strawberry crepes, anyway. He handed one over to Gail, taking a bite from his own. "Hm? Ah... that was... a detective friend of mine..." He scratched his head as his mind really started thinking about the matter for the first time. "Uhm... don't worry about it, he's very rich," Albeit a bit stingy, he added as an afterthought in his head. This was probably a bad idea, letting Jameson pay off for everything. Who knows just how he would react when he realized his savings savings had twenty percent disappeared off to some random restaurant in the city. Perhaps he could blame it on Crow...

A life without emotions made for a very convincing poker face. Not that Gail actually knew what poker was. For a normal person, there might have been a narrowing of the eyes, or a subtle change in disposition...but for Gail, there was only quiet introspection.

Detectives were dangerous. A person who had seen her display the talents of an assassin was also dangerous. A person that had seen her killer instinct and was friends with a detective wasn't someone who Gail could comfortably let live.

At the same time, though, killing Seth would no doubt set his detective friend on her trail. She didn't know anything about how skilled this detective was, but she couldn't risk being found out before she had even made an attempt to kill Hiro.

Also, the probability that the detective was at all related to Hiro was staggeringly low, of course. Not at all likely to be true at any point in time, ever.

This situation would have to be handled carefully. It was possible that she would be able to kill Hiro and leave the city without having to kill anyone else. But if Seth or his friend became too dangerous...

Gail munched on her crêpe quietly. She felt like she was supposed to say something about how Seth had gone through all of the trouble to feed her. If only there was some kind of phrase that showed gratitude that she could tell him. There might be one...one of her contractors had once said something she didn't recognize after she had completed a job. In hindsight, that was probably what it meant...

"...Thank you...for the food." She told Seth hesitantly. Was that what she was supposed to say? She wasn't sure. She wasn't sure if she would have to kill Seth later. But for now...

He gave a small satisfied sigh, placing his hand on top of her head as a physical representation of 'You're welcome,'. Surely that won't be the right thing to do if Gail was some other normal teenage girl. But for some reason he couldn't help but think of her like a younger sister that needs guidance or something. She certainly doesn't have much common sense, it just seems natural to feel like wanting to protect her or whatever. "Let's get back to the school. It's getting pretty late, don't you think?"
