Now, let's play together...under the clearest of blue skies.
Gail stood at the gates to the school as the sun began to approach the horizon. She had taken the day getting set up in her dorm. Tomorrow, her classes, and her assignment would begin.

All of her equipment, her daggers and other things, were safely hidden away in her room. No matter how thoroughly anyone searched, they would never find an object that was no longer on the physical plane unless they were expecting it to be so. But she had made sure to tell no one the details of her powers.

She could only fit homeroom and a single class with Hiro, but that was enough. She would monitor his actions while blending in with the rest of the students. Making an assassination attempt on the same day that she came to the school would be too suspicious, even if she managed to keep her identity hidden during the kill. However, she didn't plan on staying for more than a single semester.

The only thing she had to worry about was fitting in. But that would be the most difficult thing for her. She had never been to a real school before. She had observed their workings as a ghost in the past, but she had little idea of the kind of situation she was about to land herself in. In the end though, she was sure the pay would be worth it. She would have food and an apartment for a couple of years if she spent it right, and she had free room and board for as long as she was a 'student' as well. The head of a magus paid much more than any ordinary person.

For now, she had finished perusing the campus. She was confident that she would be able to find her way to the proper classrooms the next day. All that was left was to head to her dorm room and wait patiently for bedtime.

"WWAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!"

STOP!!! STOPSTOPSTOP!!!

"I WOULD IF I COULD!!!"

A violent screeching sound could be heard from the top of the hill as something whipped in and out of sight at high speed. It's movement was blurry, but if one looked closer, they would be able to see the fuzzy image of a speeding bicycle zipping around out of control. But soon, very soon, the image would get sharper and sharper for anyone at the bottom of the hill as the bicycle zooms rapidly downhill. And who's the unlucky chap riding the bike?

...Oh.

Seth.

No wonder.

His whole system was paralyzed in fear, he sat rigid on the seat, he had the look of terror permanently etched on his face, one hand was holding the handle bar desperately trying to steer it out of harm's way, while the other was balancing a giant stack of boxes filled with...

NATTO.

The terrifyingly scrumptious meal Japanese usually eats for breakfast. It's sticky, icky, gooey texture is considered as a delicacy for the tongue and the stomach, but it is considered a living hell if it gets anywhere other than inside your mouth. And in his hand there's a three feet worth of living hell stacked together.

Have anyone here ever bathed in glue?

"WATCH! UWAAAH!! SORRY, I'LL PAY FOR THAT LATER!! GAAHH!!!" His shouts rang through the whole streets as he whizzed past peoples and stalls and shops alike, wildly swinging the handlebar around avoiding any potential death wills. He wished he could stop this thing, though. Of course, he could just squeeze on the brakes, if it weren't for the fact that the cables, somehow, mysteriously enough, despite being relatively new, had snapped. And we all know just how dangerous a bike going downhill without any working braking system is. It's like a torpedo, fully loaded with natto as it's payload- "HABWWUUHHH!!!"

All of a sudden the bike toppled over forward as the front wheel struck something protruding from the road surface, sending him and the boxes of natto flying ahead by the momentum. He, quite literally, flew forward, and landed violently on the ground, his nose grinding on the ground HARD before coming to a full stop. "Uuuhuuu..." He whined, pushing himself up shakily as he rubbed the sore spot on his face where it had been sanded smooth by the... "WATCH OUT!!!!" All of a sudden his face went from pained to alarmed, as he stared down the hill, one of the ways that leads to the front gate of Hyakuji High. He couldn't worry less if he had to work overnight for a full fortnight. But what really made him worried was that there was someone at the front gate, currently in a collision course with living hell, or if we were to define it, a crapload of little plastics containers filled with icky sticky gooey natto!

Gail's assassin instincts kicked in immediately. Three missiles of an unknown type were flying towards her. She instantly jumped sideways, doing a flip as to remove most of her limbs and body from the danger zone. Her left arm was not her usual dagger throwing arm, so if she had no choice but to lose a limb, it would be that one.

She landed on the ground, with some of a strange goo on her left arm and the back of her hand. Was it an explosive, or some poisonous substance? Immediately, she shifted the dangerous object away, onto the astral plane. To Seth's eyes, it would simply disappear with a crackling noise. But at the same time, with her right hand, Gail instinctively reached for three of her hidden daggers.

But her hand stopped short of revealing her weapons. She realized that the boy was not an assailant. He had simply lost control of something...looking back at the ground behind her, it looked vaguely like food. But she didn't immediately recognize different kinds of food, since she had only ever eaten hamburgers and rice for her entire life.

Seth had no idea how close he had been to death. Gail slowly drew her hand away from the blades, and they remained safely hidden under her clothing. It wouldn't have been good for her to reveal herself as an assassin before she even began classes.

She wasn't sure, but she figured this was the kind of situation where she was supposed to say something. So she flatly said the first thing that came to mind.

"You dropped something."

It's just too bad that he didn't have his eyes open to see the magnificent moment when someone gets themselves covered with a gallon of natto, for he was covering his sights, sparing himself from viewing the awesome hilarious misfortune of the poor girl about to be covered in NATTO.

CRAASSHH!!!

There it is. It has happened. He was dreading the sight that would meet his eyes later on when he opened them, as he imagined the unfortunate girl lying on the ground sobbing in despair, completely covered from head to toe by the sticky gooey existence that is natto. This is bad. He's not sure if even apologizing would do him any good-

"You dropped something,"

"Eh?" His eyes popped open as he turned to the girl whom he expected to be a Nattowoman by now. Might as well shove that image aside. Because she's sparkling, squeaky clean. Even after (literally) being bombarded by tons of natto, she pretty much came out unscathed. He blinked at this pretty unbelievable situation. Which was a pretty stupid thing to do, since nothing here can be considered unbelievable. Oh, but who cares if it was unbelievable or not?

"I'M SORRY I'M SORRY I'M SORRY!!!" In a flash he was already right in front of the girl, with his hands brought together as though praying, bowing rapidly as he apologized at the top of his lung. "I'M A HORRIBLE HORRIBLE PERSON, PLEASE, FORGIVE ME! DO WHAT YOU WANT WITH ME, SO LONG AS IT MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER! I'M SORRY!!!" He's just that kind of a person, to apologize way too many times even if the situation doesn't warrant it. Well... this one does warrant it.

He didn't intend for 'kill me' to be included, though.

This was quite an odd situation. Gail had been working as an assassin for her entire life, as short as it was, but she had never received a request where the client and the target were the same person. Unfortunately she was already on an assignment at the moment, so she would have to kill him later.

"Hello Sorry. I am Gail." she said in an overpracticed way, "...I don't have a reason to do anything to you." She usually didn't kill people other than who she was hired to kill, simply because she wanted things to go as cleanly as possible.

She slowly looked back behind her, to the strange brown substance that was on the ground. She could also see a wispy blob of it floating in the air, where she had shifted it onto the astral plane. She figured that it would be invisible to everyone else, though, so there was no harm in leaving it there. "What...is this?"

"It's... natto?" He said tilting his head slightly with confusion as he brought his finger close to his mouth, his expression befuddled. Surely, it should be obvious, right? Unless someone had never seen natto even once in their whole life, it should be easily identifiable as natto.

But that's not important right now. What's more important is this. He raised a finger up to her face, talking with a very stern tone much like a brother scolding his younger sister for a wrongdoing. "No! Nonononono! You have every single right to have revenge. You nearly died back there," Well, she didn't die and she was most definitely not going to die any time soon. "I don't care what you say, I won't leave this spot," He said, folding his arms and sat there on the ground cross-legged, his eyes clenched tight and his face set, himself unmovable like a tree stump. "Beat me, stomp on me, force-feed some ultra spicy mabo tofu, I don't care. It's retribution,"

Gail continued looking back at the mess on the ground. "Nat...to...?" It wasn't something that she recognized. She didn't even know what beans were. The only thing she knew for sure was that it was something that wasn't supposed to be on the ground.

When she was little, her father had been very strict in telling her to clean up messes. Of course Gail suspected by now that it had been little more than obedience training, especially since most of the time it had been he that intentionally made the mess and not her. But it still instilled in her a notion that a mess should not be left on the ground, which she carried with her to this day.

"Then, you should clean up that mess." Gail said, not moving her eyes away from the supposed food, "Is that enough for your retribution?"

His eyes snapped open in disbelief. What, does she not understand the meaning of being angry at someone who almost killed (assumption) her? And all she's worried about is the little mess he just made? Slightly frustrated, he stood up, and, in a flash (not to mention in an unexplainable way) the messed up area at the front gate was as sparkling clean as though a storm had just washed away all the goo and grimes.

Seth leaned back on the gate, sighing slightly with a big trash bag full of natto at his side. Cleaning was not much of a trouble for the clean-freak, even if it's an outdoor cleaning. Perhaps it's a good thing that he decided to spend his time cleaning up the mess instead, since it pretty much took his mind off the retribution thing.

Something felt amiss about the girl though... but he couldn't put his fingers on it...

Oh.

Right. "Natto," He repeated, just to clarify her. He simply thought she didn't hear him right.

"Natto..." Gail repeated, as if trying to memorize the word. "Natto is...something that people eat...?"

Gail was rather intimidated by food. Since she had only ever eaten one kind of food in her entire life, she came to think of that one thing as 'food'. It was only recently that she learned that hamburgers and rice comprised only a small portion of things that could be called 'food', and in fact that there were many, many different kinds of food. Far more kinds than Gail could memorize or even recognize. But even so, it intrigued her in a way. She saw people eating so many different things, and was just a bit curious. She wondered if they understood or appreciated how amazing it was that they could taste something new every day.

"...May I...try some...?"

"...say what?" A surprised voice came out from his mouth moments after. How can it be helped? Is that really what anyone would expect form the mouth of a sixteen year old girl, a question as to what natto is? I repeat. WHAT natto is? "Uh... yes, people eat natto..." He muttered in a small voice, looking at her with slight curiosity. Why would she claim not to know anything about natto? Even if she IS a foreigner, that shouldn't be an excuse, as it's pretty widely known.

Somehow a thought struck him. Could it be possible that she had once lived a secluded life? He's not sure as to how much of the outside world she's been exposed to, but one thing's for sure. If she doesn't even know what natto is, she probably doesn't know much. All of a sudden, a strange feeling welled up inside him. Was it pity?

I dunno. Maybe.

He gave a small sigh before pushing himself off the gate, patting his back for a bit before walking up to her. "I suppose so... Have you had anything to eat yet? We can go and take a quick bite,"

"My last meal was at 2 AM." Gail replied simply. It had been over 12 hours ago. She ate when she could, but she was extremely intimidated by the bustling city, and was honestly a bit afraid of going out to get food. There were lots and lots of people moving in every direction, and she felt like any one of them could be a threat. She couldn't keep track of all of them at once. No matter what direction she faced, there were dozens, or even hundreds of people directly behind her.

She only went out very late at night, when the city was quiet. She felt safer that way. Most places were closed at that time, but hamburgers and rice weren't hard to find at fast food places or convenience stores. But because of that, she had never actually been in a restaurant. She had seen them before, she had even spied on one from the astral plane, watching people be seated, entire families sitting together, eating all kinds of things. It made her jealous.

"...I am...a bit hungry." She admitted, "...And I don't have anything to do today."

...

Her last meal was about twelve hours ago. Could that even be considered okay? Malnutrition is a very dangerous thing to happen to anyone. He's the living proof of that. The others are either dead or far too sickly to tell the tale. He wondered if it was in any way related to her current situation. Is she that poor, or... Oh, don't tell him she doesn't even know how to interact with people to buy herself some proper food!

But considering she doesn't even know what natto is...

He let out a small sigh before replacing it with a cheerful grin, as is usual for him. Because looking downcast is just not his style. "Well, I suppose we're in agreement!" Merrily he skipped past her, waving his hand motioning her to follow him towards the big city.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Big, bustling with peoples and cars, generally very lively, it's a typical everyday downtown scenario. Everywhere you go there's more and more people to be seen. There's really not much place where you could lie down, or sit, without being trampled over by a horde of people. Not that you would want to sit or lie down at the middle of a busy street. Bleh. Glancing around the area as he made his ways through the sea of people, (hopefully) with Gail not far behind him. Somehow it's kinda unnatural for it to be so packed with people at this time of today, but what the heck. "There's a lot to choose from here. Any place suiting your liking?"
Gail held onto Seth's hand tightly, as if he were her lifeline. There were so many people in every direction that she couldn't even count them all. She felt like if she let go of his hand, she would drown in a sea of people. The light from all of their souls together was almost blinding, like a field of neon lights, swallowing the single light from Seth's soul.
"Anywhere is fine..." Gail replied to Seth, unsure if he could even hear her over all of the commotion. People kept bumping into her, and every time they did her heart skipped a beat. She didn't like it when people touched her. "Anywhere but here..."
Though he couldn't see it in her expression, the way she's being ridiculously clingy to him like some frightened child was waaaay too obvious. Uh, yeah. She's very frightened of something. Whatever is is. "Well, I suppose we can go to that one," He said, pointing over to a small family restaurant.
Well, that certainly solved the 'where to eat' part. But there's an issue a bit more pressing than that at the moment right behind him. He turned around, taking a small glance at her with an expression of concern. "Uhm... is everything alright...?"
Gail wasn't sure what to say, at first. It wasn't often that people showed concern for her. It wasn't something that had happened at all during her childhood. Her heartbeat calmed slightly, but her grip on Seth's hand didn't weaken at all. "There are...too many people..." she told him, looking out at the crowd. Even when she had gone out during the day before, there hadn't been this many. She couldn't even tell the difference between any of them. It was like a bad dream.
The restaurant that Seth had picked out looked like a small, quiet place. "...Let's hurry to the building." She said it as though it were a bomb shelter. It would be her first time going into a restaurant in physical form, but Seth was there and it wasn't a large restaurant, so she wouldn't be overwhelmed. But she didn't move towards the building at all while Seth stood still, letting him take the lead.
