This is just something to use as a reference and shouldn’t strictly be interpreted as what Ty looks like, though it is pretty close. For those of you that recognize this guy as 40-something, de-age him a bit to about 17. (You know, firmer skin and what not.)

Ty can loosely be defined as “wannabe rock star,” at least in the way he dresses. His wardrobe consists largely of black t-shirts, blue or black jeans, and anything he can put on that’s shiny and makes a lot of noise when he moves: wallet chains, necklaces, rings, bracelets, etc., etc.

Interestingly, Ty's tattoos are illusions he has managed to maintain somehow.

Occupation: Student
Grade Level: Junior
Powers/ Abilities: Ty has the ability to create illusions. There are three different types of illusions Ty has the ability to control, create, or whatever. Unfortunately, anyone with a strong will can power through the illusions. Additionally, since Ty has normal senses and can only create illusions on a level normal for people with normal senses, those with senses above the human average will be able to see through the illusions. Within reason, of course. A sudden bolt of excruciating pain is going to hurt anyone. (Note: Illusions used for gags will not activate cool downs.)

  • Optics: Optics are illusions that affect the target's perception of what they see. There are three branches of Optics: Visual Distortion, Blinding, and Physical Foolery.
    • Visual Distortion: Visual Distortion works by making the afflicted see things that aren't really there (i.e. mirages). Although an infinite number of people can be affected by Visual Distortion at any one time, Ty must be making direct eye contact with the target, making this used only very rarely. These illusions can only be sustained for roughly five minutes before disappearing. Small scale illusions, such as seeing someone that's not really there, will remain up to the five minute mark after Ty breaks ye contact. Large scale illusions, such as seeing a building blow up, requires almost constant eye contact. If contact is broken, the illusion will continue render itself for up to ten seconds. This does not reset the five minute time limit. Visual Distortion is very taxing on Ty and he can thusly only use it once every thirty minutes without passing out.
    • Blinding: Exactly as it sounds. Blinding renders the target blind. To use this, Ty must have direct eye contact with the target and an infinite number of people can be affected by this at any one time. While still used rarely, this is used more often than Visual Distortion. Blinding can be sustained so long as the afflicted is/are in Ty's line of sight or until two minutes passes. Blindless is less taxing on Ty than Visual Distortion and thusly can be used every fifteen minutes instead of thirty. Again, if Ty uses it before the time limit, he will pass out.
    • Physical Foolery: Ty's most common use of Optics. This requires no contact at all and changes someone's physical appearance. However, it takes longer for Ty to use it on others. When used on himself, the illusion takes place immediately. Ty cannot make it seem like another person is there, that's what Visual Distortion is for. These illusions can last up to an hour. Physical Foolery isn't difficult for Ty to use at all and has no cool down unless sustained for more than ten minutes. After thirty minutes passes, the person becomes immune to further uses of Physical Foolery for two hours for some reason. Also, someone already under the effects of Physical Foolery cannot be affected by it again.

  • Audio Confusion: Audio Confusion is illusions that influence sound. There are two different types of Audio Confusion, but the differences are minute. One type makes the target hear things and the other changes the sounds of things or amplifies the volume of the sound. Neither forms of Audio Confusion require any type of contact and can last for up to two hours. The louder the noise, the shorter the amount of time it can be held to a minimum of a brief moment.

Audio Confusion is very taxing for Ty to activate (but not sustain), even more so than Visual Distortion because the illusion must be projected directly from Ty's mind into the target's mind and not through some form of contact.

's cool down is dependent upon the collective strength of the sound. Illusions held for short amounts of time (less than ten minutes) have a static cool down of five minutes. Sounds sustained/modified for long amounts of time (more than ten minutes) have cool downs the same as the duration of the illusion. i.e. If Ty makes someone hear a faint buzzing sound for an hour, he'll have to wait an hour before he can use Audio Confusion again. Sudden, short, very loud sounds are a deviation from the normal. Instead of having a cool down the same as their duration, they can only be used three times per day. They can be used in rapid succession, but that leaves Ty with no uses left.

  • Nerve Manipulation: Nerve Manipulation makes the target feel or not feel what is or isn't there. There are two branches of Nerve Manipulation: Inversion and Extroversion. All types of Nerve Manipulation are instigated by touching the target. Though not difficult for Ty to use, people that have Nerve Manipulation used on them become immune to either form of Nerve Manipulation for one hour.
    • Inversion: Inversion nullifies the target's sense of touch. This can spread over the target's entire body or can be limited to a specific area. These illusions can last for up to ten minutes.
    • Extroversion: Extroversion stimulates the target's sense of touch. This can also spread over the target's entire body or just to a specific area. There are two sub-branches to Extroversion: Malign and Benign. Malign makes the target feel pain. Anything that the target does not find pleasurable (i.e. Mark may not like the taste of broccoli...) falls under this. Benign is the opposite of Malign, it makes the target feel pleasurable (i.e. ...but Tom does.). Malign Extroversion is the most commonly used. Ty may just want the affected to feel good or bad with no concern about what the affected feels. In which case, Ty simply wills them to feel something and it’s up to the other RPer to determine exactly what their character experiences. Extroversion can last up to ten minutes for minor feelings and decreases as the sensations get stronger. For example, feelings of ecstasy (i.e. orgasm) can only be sustained for a few moments.

    Equipment You Have: N/A

    Residency Request: Yuki

    Schedule:
    Homeroom Teacher: Hiro
    Period 1: Supernatural Studies
    Period 2: Art
    LUNCH
    Period 3: Music

Personality Description: Despite appearances, Ty is a laid back guy. Not much gets him angry or puts him in a bad mood. Relatedly, he’s pretty level headed and is quick to shoot down plans that have glaring, irreparable flaws. But God help you if you fuck with his sunglasses or hair or sing better than him. He's pretty petty about those three things.

This isn’t to say he puts down anyone that doesn’t have immediate, realistic goals or destroys their dreams. In fact, Ty is the type to help someone realize their dreams or to commend them for dreaming big instead of “shoulding all over themselves”. (You should be a lawyer because it’s a nice, respectable, well paying job and everyone will love you for it despite you wanting to be an Olympic athlete.)

Ty is a fairly big dreamer himself. As one might have guessed from his wardrobe, he wants to be a rock star. He’s certainly flamboyant and charismatic enough. His only reason for not dropping out of school hitting the music circuit and coming to Hyakuji is so he can perhaps come to term with the powers no one else around him seemed to have.

More on that. As a child, Ty’s powers were immature and uncontrolled. Fortunately, they weren’t strong enough to affect others. Unfortunately, Ty was plagued by illusions of all types until he was fourteen years old. Doctors diagnosed it as schizophrenia and everyone—including Ty himself—believed it.

When Ty gained control over his powers and stopped seeing and feeling illusions every waking moment, he realized his powers for what they were. Immediately, he despised them and, at the same time, was terrified of them.

Over time, he has slowly come to terms with the powers that made his childhood a living hell. Outwardly, one would think Ty has completely accepted his powers what with his wanton usage of them. On the inside, however, Ty is still slightly frightened by what he is capable of and that’s why he’s come to Hyakuji.

Personal History: Ty was born to Robert and Cynthia Gale in New York City. His life was outwardly peaceful and regular. To someone with inside knowledge of the family, it was hell. Ty’s perceived schizophrenia derailed his family because his mother was, while loving and caring toward her son, obsessed with proper and normal social interaction, something schizophrenia easily throws a wrench into. Historically, Robert was violent. Throughout the first year of their marriage, he repeatedly hit Cynthia in bouts of fury until he received help from a psychologist. He was doing well until Ty came along and then Ty’s behavior of screaming randomly in public out of horror or sheer ecstasy. Fortunately, Robert controlled it and redirected it into martial arts classes.

Ty was on schizophrenia medication until he was fourteen even though it was clear to everyone that the medication wasn’t helping and that it would be best to put Ty in a mental institution. Cynthia refused to put her only child in a “loony bin” and instead clung to the medication in her denial that her son wasn’t getting any better.

When Ty turned fourteen, Cynthia finally gave in to the demands of everyone around her and agreed to institutionalize Ty. Whether it’s because Ty was terrified of being institutionalized or because his powers fully matured, Ty’s powers immediately became his to control. Over the course of a week, Ty quickly and consistently proved to everyone that he no longer needed to be institutionalized. With a cry of relief, Robert and Cynthia never had to call the mental institution in the first place.

As is always the case with Ty, outwardly he was cheerful and charismatic and suddenly the perfect child, but on the inside he was in constant fear of his powers backfiring on him once again. He still is to this day.

During his junior year of high school, Ty stumbled across Hyakuji High’s webpage. He quickly saw the possibilities there. He decided he’d try to convince his parents to let him go. Of course, Robert and Cynthia didn’t know of Ty’s powers yet. In the first large scale use (Everything beforehand had been small experiments, such as changing his own appearance.) of his powers, Ty fooled his parents into thinking it was some fancy prep school, something they had always wanted to send Ty to. By showing just an inkling of interest, Ty got his parents to ship him off to SHHS almost immediately.

Mashed Potatoes? There is no spoon.

Removed the two extraneous parts. As for what's still up there, it looks like a lot because it's compartmentalized and not mashed into one horrible wall of text. And because some of them are too strong to have the same durations as the others.

But if it's still not good, I have something else I can use.

You do have a lot of powers, but at this point, they're all related to his main power, which is illusions. So I only have one issue with this right now. I need some clarification as to how many different types of illusions he can use at one time. (i.e. can he use Visual and Audio at the same time? Different types of Visual at once? Is there a cooldown period?).

Ty can use every illusion at his disposal at the same time, provided the criteria for each illusion is met, to submerge someone in a fake world.

To be honest, I'd never thought about cool downs because I'd never considered abusing the lack of them. I'm not the underhanded, loophole-abusing type. Loophole abuse ruins all the fun anyway. I slapped some on there anyway, though.

I quite like it, this is definitely one of the better illusion-based power sets I've seen. My only concern is that there is no limit to it with regards to resistance. This is a magic sensory based ability so I would think those with enhanced senses or a strong will would have some kind of chance of resisting these effects. I wouldn't presume to say that anyone he uses these abilities on has no choice but to fall for them or even be affected by them. Otherwise this comes out looking a bit too God-moddish for my taste.

Other than that though, the limitations are good, the powers are well-defined and I'd approve this if you took what I said into account.
