Damon landed by the river, having arrived by Doom train. It seemed the water's of the river had been getting out of control, or so the rumors at school had been saying. He'd considered asking Kaede to help, but she was probably in no condition to help at the moment. Besides, this was a simple river, and it was just a school rumor. It probably would turn out to be nothing.

Still, the river was somewhat close to the towers, and Damon didn't want to run the risk of something happening here. He kneeled down and looked into the water. It DID look KINDA bigger....or was that just his imagination? He didn't exactly have the river MEASURED out, he wasn't obsessive compulsive regarding this.

"Kage, wake up." Damon said, his partner rising up from his shadow, blinking. "Mmm?" The elemental asked, tilting her head. "Does the river look weird to you?" He asked, curious. Kage shook her head, not noticing anything. Maybe this WAS a wild goose chase?

((ooc: I assumed you wanted me to post in this thread ^^; sorry if I'm wrong in advance x_x;))

A fair distance down the river from Damon, Mitsuko sighed deeply as she buried her head into the notepad she’d been jotting in the for past few hours, causing a textbook that had been resting on her lap to slip away and fall to the damp ground beside her. The girl in her yellow raincoat was sitting on the trunk of an overturned tree which had fallen as the river had eroded the earth around its roots, leaving it laying horizontally upon the river’s embankment, the perfect makeshift chair for someone who was too lazy to bring their own. Slowly Mitsuko raised her head up from her notepad and scrawled another few numbers down onto the page as she tried desperately to work out the figures in her head, Maths was never her strong point however so they just seemed like a hectic mess to her. Once again she sighed and leant backwards, looking up into the sky as she tried to recall how she’d even got into this mess in the first place, perhaps then she’d be able to work out the problem more easily.

She’d only been at this school for a week now and already Mitsuko had been expected to complete a small project based upon geographical features, news which had greatly annoyed her as she hated projects especially ones regarding matters she didn’t care about. She’d procrastinated for a few days, putting the project off so that she could focus on other things, that was until she heard a rumour that the nearby river was changing shape. It had been such a perfect plan, at least it seemed that way to her at the time. Walk up to the river bank, take some measurements, keep doing so for a week or so, then use the data to find out the reason as to why the river is doing what it is it is doing.

Mitsuko looked back down at the notepad with fury in her eyes, everything had been going so well but it was just these stupid numbers that were the problem. Everything in the text book explained why rivers changed their shape but the measurements she’d taken just didn’t add up. How could a river change its path and get wider at the same time? It was impossible, at least that’s what the book told her, or didn’t tell her at least, as there was no mention of this phenomenon in it. Was the river flooding? Was the flow rate of the water increasing? What was it? How was this happening!?

Greatly irritated by this Mitsuko stood up to her feet though immediately slipped over backwards as she felt something underneath her slide forwards, she landed back on top of the tree stump just in time to see the textbook fly out into the air before splashing into the river, disappearing into the distance as the flow of the water carried it away. Mitsuko could only watch in disbelief at her misfortune, and that was a library book too. Feeling very defeated by this final act of failure Mitsuko sighed sadly to herself, if she didn’t find out why the river was doing this she’d have to start another project, and there was no way she was going to find the effort within her to do that. She may as well just ask for her F grade right now.

Now, let's play together...under the clearest of blue skies.
"Hiiiiii Damooooon~" Erin bounded up to the boy cheerfully, wearing a light jacket over a long-sleeved shirt and pants. She had walked the entire way, so she had a bit of snow on her. "Hiiiii Kageeeeee~" She added afterward, not wanting her to feel left out. Aww, she's so cute. Erin couldn't help but think when seeing the small shadow elemental. She figured from the amount of snow that was on Damon that she had gotten here more or less just on time, or at least that Damon hadn't had to wait long on her.

"I got your message, Damon." Erin said, leaning down while standing next to him, "I do take walks out here often, and I noticed on some days that the river seemed like it was in a slightly different place than before, or a tree was closer to the riverbank than I remembered it being...but I figured it was just my imagination..." The girl had always been one to enjoy a walk through a nice, peaceful place, and the Elemancer Castle was positioned conveniently close to the forest. The river made a convenient route for a nature walk, since she just had to walk alongside it until she got to the waterfall. "If other people are noticing something too, though, something might actually be happening...have any of the aquamancers said anything?"

Something moving across the surface of the river caught her eye. "Oh no, a book..." It was clear that Erin was worried about it. She didn't know how long it had been there, but water damage could have completely ruined it. But she definitely wasn't jumping into a river at this temperature. A cautious gust of wind blew from the opposite side of the river towards Damon and Erin, bringing with it a somewhat biting wind chill from the cold winter air. The surface of the river rippled as the wind dragged the book towards the riverbank, where Erin knelt down to pick it up out of the water. She shook it off a few times, hoping to get some of the water off. "I don't think it's been in the river too long..." She observed, "It might have been dropped recently...someone might be looking for it."

Damon's eyes' did not fool him.. The river seemed to be swelling right before his eyes. Although the rumor was quickly spreading around about the odd activities of the lake, what lay before them was something more. Not just a minor shift.. But a massive expansion.. It was impossibly large, the entire lake seemed to stretch on for a quarter mile across at times and then in the next instant it seemed to snap back to it's original diameter...

However the students would find their feet quickly becoming swallowed up by the waters, it was an impossible to explain phenomenon. Even though the lake was near to the schools even when it expanded it never seemed to approach the school.. The entire area seemed to be growing within an area all it's own, set off from the rest of the world..

And it seemed today it was especially bad..

Damon's head turned with surprise as he heard Erin approach. He didn't call her. The only one who knew wa-Kage. Of course. She was probably playing with his phone again. He wasn't too surprised, Kage liked Erin. At this rate the elemental might look up to Erin as another 'Onee-san.' That was when he noticed exactly what was going on, in the form of his feet now being soaking wet. Okay. Not a false alarm. A good call on Kage's part for bringing Erin in.

"Jesus!" Damon yelped as he leaped back on shore. Okay. Not good. "No aquamancer's told me of THIS happening. Let's move upstream, if anyone else is close by, we need to make sure whatever's doing this isn't their doing, and keep them safe." He said as he began to run up the side of the river, Kage following behind him.

"Erin, can you sense anything strange going on with the wind? Anything out of place? Any less water in the air? Anything?" He asked as he moved, before stopping as he saw Mitsuko. "Hey, you over there!" He yelled out. "Are you doing anything to this river?"

"Oh, wow..." Erin said, surprised. She had been standing on the edge of the river before, so she was quite surprised when she was suddenly ankle-deep in water. "I-I can't really sense water vapor, but I'll see what I can do..." She had to close her eyes to focus on her airsight, but she could keep following Damon by running after his silhouette. It was hard for her to keep up, since she wasn't very athletic, but she didn't want to slow him down, so she didn't say anything.

Erin couldn't tell the difference between water and ground, since both of them were just 'not air' to her in this state. But she would definitely be able to tell if a group of trees was suddenly replaced with a completely flat surface, and she could 'see' for quite a ways down the river. She wanted to find out if the entire river was experiencing the same phenomenon, or just the area immediately around them, and she would also see humanoid shapes if there was anyone other than her and Damon in the area. Damon had already found the girl, but there could be others...

Mitsuko’s head was buried into her notepad as she worried about the future of her potential grade. She had made a promise to her mother and father that she would make sure she kept working hard at her academic classes, this grade would be the first she ever received so it was vitally important that she at least get a C, otherwise her family would be so disappointed. She really cared so much about what her family thought of her but it was just so much of an effort to complete this project, she was trapped between two conflicting worries and felt a little bit helpless because of it, and it was because of these worries that she didn’t notice the rising water until her feet had became somewhat wet.

“Hyuh?” She uttered curiously as she lazily raised her head, though she soon gasped in shock as she noticed the water had risen quite high up in a matter of seconds, “Ther wierter’s syo heeih!”

Not wanting to get wet Mitsuko clambered up on top of the overturned tree she was sitting upon, which now was completely surrounded by water rather than resting upon the embankment as it had been earlier. Now in a pretty panicked Mitsuko looked around at the water which was raising up around her ever further with each passing second, it had been just low enough for her to safely wade to the riverbank a few seconds ago, had she been quick enough to notice the raising water, now however she found herself standing on top of a wobbly tree unable to get off. For a second Mitsuko considered jumping off of the tree and into the water, the way she figured she’d be up to her neck but she could doggy paddle till she found her footing, but then she remembered that the water had probably started flowing a lot quicker due to the expansion and had to force herself to stop herself from carrying this plan through. The result was Mitsuko overbalanced and landed painfully on top of the tree trunk, so that she now straddled it with both her arms and legs, which were now both pretty soaked by the river water.

"Hey, you over there!" He yelled out. "Are you doing anything to this river?"

A voice! Mitsuko turned her head to see two figures walking towards her, before she could even think however she’d already started screaming.

“Heh dunt wawk eyovah hyeer ther wierter izz deep jest HYELP MII!!” She cried out, holding onto the tree for dear life all the while with her eyes now squeezed tightly closed, “HYELP MII gyet mii eyffva hyeeerrr!!”

The water levels beneath them seemed to be fluctuating wildly, but the one constant was the slow but steady spread. It'd recede, then swell, then recede again but not quite back to the dept it had before. And even more curiously it seemed to change it's course as if it were flowing within a thread tossed around wildly... The feeling that an aquamancer would get was clear though, an immense presence of their own elemental power swelling against a constraint....

And any moment the force holding it back would loose.

The feeling of the source of the power seemed to be coming from farther down the river.. Well, but the most pertinent matter might be saving the girl whose tree was going form half-underwater to bone-dry every few minutes..

Oh dear GOD that accent.

"....What?" Damon asked flatly, needing a second to understand it. Okay, no, she wasn't the cause. She seemed panicked. Alright, crap, rescue time. Damon's dark aura formed around him, as he began to think. A dark bridge formed between her and the shore, as the shadows moved into place. It was a bit larger than Damon would have liked, but oh well. "Move, now!" He yelled out, before turning back to the river.

"It looks like it's pulsing. What in the world is happening?" He muttered out loud, frustrated by all this. He turned to Erin, knowing one thing right now. "Looks like we're gonna have to get to the bottom of this. Whatever's here seems to be related to nature, and we can't let it mess with the area." He didn't have the authority to make this a mission. It needed on of the Summons to claim it as such. Still, it was obvious this was important.

He looked to the new girl, who hopefully by now had arrived. "You, new girl. I don't think you want to be out in these woods alone right now. You'd better come with us, better to be in a group than alone out here." He said, before moving up towards what he hoped was the source...

Under normal circumstances a bridge formed entirely of shadows materialising before her very eyes would have scared the living hell out of Mitsuko, it was fortunate then that this wasn’t a usual circumstance. Without even thinking about it she scrambled up onto her knees though the tree was starting to shake so rapidly she had to hold onto a few loose twigs to avoid falling. Standing was definably out of the question so with an abrupt yelp of panic Mitsuko kicked downwards, hopping sideways as far as she could possibly manage from her rather awkward starting position.

Thankfully Mitsuko fell on top of the newly formed bridge though she almost missed it entirely, she landed on her side and rolled over once as she scampered back up onto her feet, wobbling slightly as she nearly overbalanced over the edge. Luckily though she avoided falling and darted at top speed towards the shore, jumping the last few paces onto the soft yet reassuringly sturdy soil beneath her.

"Looks like we're gonna have to get to the bottom of this. Whatever's here seems to be related to nature, and we can't let it mess with the area."

Mitsuko was glad that these two had turned up when they did, the boy at least seemed to know what he was talking about from what she could decipher from his irritatingly complex accent. A incredibly loud crunching sound caused her to turn her head back towards the tree she’d just been holding onto for dear life, the force of the river had finally ripped the last few roots out from the ground, sending the tree drifting downstream where it half disappeared under the water. If these two hadn’t helped her then she’d be in the river along with that tree, it was definitely a relief then that they were going to solve everything else so that nobody else would get hurt.

"You, new girl. I don't think you want to be out in these woods alone right now. You'd better come with us, better to be in a group than alone out here."

“Weeeeiittt!!?” Mitsuko snapped back in reply, she stood up to her feet to face this boy, utterly in disbelief as to what she was hearing, “Yew eyint seeriyus, aye eyint.. Neyo.. Theyeint nethin’ aye cindu te hylp, su aye’m jus genne geeo beck teu the skeyool.”

And with that Mitsuko turned with a huff and started walking back the way she had come to get here. It was only an hour or so’s walk through the forest, she’d walked this way several times before so she knew the route pretty well already. Who did that guy think he was telling her to come with him? He had some sort of freaky power to control shadows and actually seemed to know a little thing about what was happening, what would Mitsuko be able to do to help? Apart from possibly use her astral projection and float about at the river for a bit.

Erin had (more than) a bit of trouble deciphering the girl's speech, but she did ultimately get what she was saying. "Wait!" She called out, running over to her before she stormed off. "Is this your book?"

It was the book that she had picked out of the river before it started shifting. She figured that the book belonged to someone who was by the river, and this girl was the only person they had found. The book wasn't titled 'How to Make Rivers Freak Out' so she didn't see any suspicion in it. "It was in the water for a bit, but it's still in one piece..."

Erin could glide over the river, but she didn't have the physical strength to carry Damon with her. She could try manipulating the air around him in the same way, but he'd probably end up qwoping in midair. She almost started to laugh just imagining it, but her train of thought was interrupted when one of the pulsations of the river almost pulled out the land from under her feet. "Y-you should probably hurry..."
