Jameson scowled a bit as he slammed his sword into the thorn creature. Meanwhile he fired on the thorns moving towards Johnny, blasting them back. Focusing on both was hard but he didn't have a lot of choices.. ~~~~ The black material holding Star shattered under the blow from Johnny. Which increased it's speed of whithering.. While inversely shrank the actual beast itself. Just like with Johnny it'd be forced to leap out. But with them all trapped in here.. The situation was bad.. He drew all of his power at once, drawing in all the black vines from all over, even releasing Star, mostly, just to force all the way into her, moving to shatter that seal all at once. This was his last gambit. They all seemed scared of it, it might make for a great escape mechanism... ~~~~ Jameson swore violently dashing in. He used the last of his mental power to delve into Star's mind. "STAR! WAKE UP!" He ordered straight into her mind, trying to get her to snap awake and resist now that his control over her was minimal... This was it.. whatever happened next was big.. "JOHHNY. GET BACK!" He roared. |

It was official: His luck sucked. "Out of the way!" He yelled as he hacked through each of the thorns that continued to grow in his path, annoyed by the persistence of this body snatching creep. He could see from his position the increasing display of light from Star, and whilst he'd admit it was pretty darn sparkly, given the situation, he felt it was more ominous than anything else. Suddenly, and without much in the way of warning, the thorns receded, Jonny wondering just what could be happening. And then the fedora came running in, surprising even him at how fast a guy like that could move. Unsure of what was occuring, but able to tell enough that it was big, he as ordered, and sped away. ...Not far enough that he wouldn't be able to get straight back in there, in case anything happened. |

"STAR! WAKE UP!" In an instant, Star was acutely aware of the body snatcher's hold loosening on her body as it recoiled, pushed back angrily. Her fingers curled into fists, and she groaned in response to Jameson's voice, twisting her body around. The light swirled around her in a maelstrom, a chaotic whirlwind with Star at it's center. Power pulsed in her chest rapidly and shallowly, taking the place of her heartbeat. She could feel it filling her, pouring out through her frayed barrier. She couldn't let it win! For all of their sakes, she had to--! She clenched her fists tightly, letting out a loud shout as she faced skyward. Star's eyes snapped open on the outside, revealing molten gold. There were no whites or irises left visible, just bright gold light. In an instant, the light around her flared, breaking through the remaining thorns and consuming them. The bright light would be almost painful to look at, and Jameson and Jonny might have to look away, but they would be unharmed by it. Star floated in the air for a moment, after the light cleared, rushing back into her. The last of the light disappeared and Star's eyes closed, her head rolling back as her body went limp. She pitched forward and fell to the ground, exhausted... |

The three were forced from Star's mind back to reality.. It seemed Jameson had already reached his limit. The illusion faded and all of them were forced back into their own bodies.. All of them including the criminal. Black smoke gathered together in the center, revealing the one behind all of this. ![]() "Hahahaha.. Even if it was by sheer luck it seems I won the day.." Came the muffled voice from within the mask. He eyed the others. "With the detective gone... It's over.." In reality he was fatigued and could probably only handle one more jump, but one more was all he needed.. He exploded into black smoke.. But to where was unknowable.. And with his ability to inhabit bodies.. Meanwhile Jameson lay unconscious on the ground, a trail of blood coming from his nose. He'd overextended himself in more ways that one. Overpsyche alone took a huge toll, combined with drawing all their minds together, forming the illusionary battlefield, and then fighting the enemies he'd pushed himself beyond what he could do even at his peak. Luckily though.. He was still alive. If one considered Overpsyche a game of Russian roulette then he'd pulled the trigger on an empty barrel.. This time. And luckily they'd all survived. His body had held out only so long as it did due to his will to protect the others. As soon as he saw Star regain control and suppress her power he immediately lost focus and collapsed.. Allowing the enemy to escape. Ah well, without the intrepid detective here to say it for us I suppose the duty falls to the narrator.. And with that.. it was case closed. |

Jonny wasn't quite sure of what happened. The fedora guy yelled out loud for Star to wake up, then there was a bright light... And then he was back in the street, tumbling backwards slightly as he returned to control of his actual body - noting the lack of sword in hand. However, sword or not, his attention was soon directed by the gathering smoke, before there stood what he could only presume was the cause behind all of this. A bird man. Freaky. Okay, so maybe it was some guy in a mask, but it didn't explain the whole 'didn't have a body before this' part, unless of course they were able to restore their body upon exitting someone. Jonny focused on the fedora guy briefly, managing to catch him as they collapsed, a good amount of blood flowing from the nose. "With the detective gone... It's over.." Jonny turned back to the body snatcher just as they disappeared, likely into one of the crowd. Would he ever be able to actually stop a bad guy? Wait, no - not the priority here. He pulled out his cellphone, dialling the hospital. "Just who are you guys?" He asked Star, since well, people who actively took part in tracking down body snatchers weren't exactly common. His phone rang as he waited for an answer. Then again, given what he did sometimes... |

Star opened her eyes slowly, looking straight up at the sky. She was lying on the sidewalk, her blond hair fanning out behind her like a curtain. Star blinked, her fingers curling inward slowly. Her eyelids felt heavy, and her limbs felt like they were made of lead, but at least she felt solid. She took a deep breath, filling her lungs with oxygen. She could feel the sunlight sending tiny shivers up her body. The feeling was mildly unpleasant--sunlight pushing against overworked receptors. She turned her head, her eyes widening slightly as she saw the body snatcher's true form. She extended her hand towards it weakly, as if trying to capture it before it could escape. Light flickered at her fingertips, a flash of white light that briefly congealed into the beginnings of a ribbon before it broke apart, shattering and dispersing. No good. She was completely drained. And with that, the criminal was gone. "No way..." muttered Star. She pushed herself into a sitting position with some effort, her hands clasped in her lap as she shook her head. After all that, the criminal had escaped. And they were so close, too. She sighed, then pushed herself up so that she was kneeling. Slowly, she stood up, swaying unsteadily on her feet. Her legs felt like they were made of rubber, and she wasn't sure they would support her. She walked over to Jameson, but he seemed to be alright. She breathed a sigh of relief. There was that, at least. She looked up as Jonny spoke to her. "We're the WDA," she said in reply. "A detective agency. Or, well, he is. He's actually the founder of the WDA. I just used to work there." And wanted to begin working there again, but she didn't think that letting the criminal get away was a very good expression of her capabilities. |

The... WDA? He remembered the name, having passed by it a few times, though he hadn't taken any particular interest in it. He hadn't... well, expected it to be the kind of thing that dealt with body snatchers. Again, rather hypocritical if one thought about it. "So... was every day as hectic as this?" He asked, before the ringing from his phone stopped, and he proceeded to call the hospital, specifying the who, what, when, and where. No point in trying the why though, since even having gone just through it, it was rather unbelieveable. "You thinking of going back to work there?" It seemed like an odd question, but she had specified that her association was a past subject. He was almost curious as to whether or not he'd see the two working together again. Crazy as it seemed. |

"More or less," said Star. "Not always like this, but there was never a dull moment. I didn't work there too long, though. I got distracted..." She hugged her arms and swayed to the side, stumbling a few steps to the side until she braced herself against the side of the building. It was no use. She couldn't stay upright for too long. Her body just didn't feel like supporting itself. Considering it had been in danger of disintegrating completely earlier, she would count herself lucky. She looked up as Jonny asked her if she wanted to work there again, smiling slightly. "Maybe," she said. "It was fun. And I'm not scared anymore, like I used to be..." That had been one of the major differences. She had actually fought in this fight, and not just stayed to the back and tried not to get killed. She took a deep breath, and extended one shaky hand towards Jonny. "My name is Star, by the way," she said, smiling at him. "Nice to meet you. Thank you for the earrings." |

Heh, sounded like quite the interesting place. He'd have to make sure he looked up the phone number later - who knows when somewhere like that could prove useful. He watched as she slumped against the wall, and figured it probably had to do with whatever had happened back there. If anything, he was the only one who hadn't been completely exhausted as a result of this mess. Taking her hand, he shook it, smiling as he (formally) learnt her name. "Nice to meet you too - I'm Jonny Desmond. And no worries, not like I haven't got the cash to spare." He laughed, waiting expectantly for an ambulance to turn up. "So... you control light then? Seems pretty cool, if not a little dangerous. I'm a speedster - got past the sound barrier a couple years ago." He exposited about his powers, since it was something to talk about. |

Star laughed slightly at Jonny's words, releasing his hand and letting it fall to her side. "Wanna trade?" she asked, looking up at him when he mentioned her powers were cool. She shook her head. "Just kidding, though. I wouldn't trade my powers out, even if they can be annoying sometimes." It was hard to imagine it now, when another close brush with her elemental side left her body feeling like she had been running laps all day and her head pounding like she had been drinking all last night, but Star loved her powers. There was just something exciting about feeling the rush of sunlight against her skin, something inherently powerful about plucking colors out of the air and swirling them around her fingertips. She just wished she could have the photomancy without the unpleasant side effects. But then again, she supposed everybody needed a drug, and there were worse things to be addicted to than sunlight and color. And caffeine. She frowned, feeling her thoughts beginning to take another rambling path. Star shook her head slightly, then turned towards Jonny. "I'm about one-fourth light elemental," she said, "Which explains what you saw back there. It can be a little dangerous sometimes, but I can live with it." |

As much as light powers might be cool, he would in no way trade them for his own. His powers held quite a bit of versatility, and were, well, simply fun to have. They made him who he was today - like hell he'd give them up. "I have no clue what an elemental even is, but I guess we're talking deity level powers at full strength, right?" It would make sense, given that light was an essential part of life on this planet, and pretty much everywhere. ...Yeah, they were really lucky this didn't go any further. An ambulance began to turn into the road, Jonny turning his head to see it. He raised his hand for them to spot, though he supposed they'd stand out anyway. "See you around?" He asked Star, before getting up, brushing himself off. |
