The crowds bustled and moved in a thick mass. Each person was jostling by. The entire street had been closed off from traffic for a street fair. Vendors selling their goods on the streets. Locally grown merchandise. Imported or hand-made goods. It was every sort of specialty vendor you could imagine right down to bootleg DVDS. It was a mad house. And down the center of the madness strode one figure.. He bent over retrieving a fedora from the grown, dusting it off with his right hand. He smirked planting it on his black hair. His single gray eye shining with excitement. It was the bright look that the man only got when on a case. Boots hitting the pavement of the city. It's energy and vivacious livelihood filling his body from his toes to the tip of his head. This was the feeling of being a detective. A gumshoe. A dick. It was the feeling of pursuing the unknown. It was a feeling Jameson B. Willicott knew all too well, as head of the Willicott Detective Agency. A small detective agency where he recruited interesting kids with potential and helped to guide them to reach their full ability. He planted his hands deep in the grey cloth slacks, suspenders extended over the shoulders of a white button down. A single long black tie down the center. He also had a button down sleeveless suit vest of the same black color. Over all of this was a long grey trench coat that matched his slacks and hung to his knees. A black eye patch rested over his right eye and his left hand held a walking cane for an obvious limp. Jameson was always one to dress the part. He looked like a detective right out of a 1950's crime drama in this getup. He was here on the trail of a crook that the police were having a hard time pinning down. So far they'd found a different suspect on each case and each time it had been absolutely correct and yet the criminals were all also somehow completely innocent. It seemed like a classic case... of an imposter! or a body snatcher! or a morphing human blob! It was so exciting! Cases like these were harder. But it was this sort of thing he wanted to do some day. To be the chief detective people went to for supernatural crimes. Which was why he'd hit the streets himself. He was going to sniff out this punk himself! MANO Y MANO!.. .Er.. or mano y wo-mano, if such were the case. Edited by Cypriss, Aug 16 2011, 10:21 AM.

Jonny was still trying to get used to any chances in the scenery since he had been here. A lot of products - especially ones actually made in japan - came out here months before they were advertised over on western shores, let alone actually sold. So he was here mainly to make sure he knew exactly what was out, when back in Britain, he had been waiting expectantly for them. Though, given the nature of such markets around him, he had to be concerned that in some cases, a few of the products were meant to be out yet in Japan as well. "I'll take a few of these please." At least there were no copyright laws revolving around fruit. Not that he knew of anyway. Handing over the necessary money, he found himself carrying around a small plastic bag filled with apples. Pulling one out, he began to eat, letting himself stroll through the massive crowd as the clear blue sky rolled on over head. His bright red shirt made him stand out as per usual, today not tempered or obscured by a jacket of any kind. He'd realised that if it started raining, he could probably go back and pick up his coat quickly enough anyway. And for once, it wasn't really that cold, so double points. He kept the hand attached to the arm carrying the fruit firmly in his jean pockets, as his eyes scanned the market around him. He passed a man in the strangest get-up, though he'd have to compliment the stylish fedora. He tried to imagine himself wearing a hat like that, but simply laughed at it. |

It was official. Meglumar was cheating on her. He hadn't returned any of her past calls and text messages, and he had been rushing home from school early and getting home from school late before they could even hang out. He barely even showed up to Arcadia anymore, and as for seeing him around the bookstore? Well, that was a lost cause. Yup, it was official. Her boyfriend was gone, and it was all that new girl's fault. And by new girl, of course, she meant his new baby sister. Star tucked a strand of blond hair behind her ear, her fingers brushing against the gold dangling earrings she was wearing today and watching the light glitter off them. She pursed her glossed lips, sighing slightly. Of course, it was great that Meglumar was now a big brother, but with Jen out for the afternoon and Fuu doing...whatever it was Fuu did, it was also boring. She wasn't even working today, and although heading to the shop to mess with Tarin was appealing, it got old after the first four times. "It's a little pricey," said Star, removing the earring. "Can't you lower the price a little bit more?" "Sorry, miss," said the shopkeeper. "I can't take more than 10% off of them." "Eh?!?" asked Star. "But that's still a lot of money..." "I am very sorry." Star sighed and scratched the back of her head. "Stupid Tsukasa-sensei..." she muttered under her breath, pulling up her purse and fishing for her wallet with the earrings clasped in one hand. Maybe she should just switch to working in the Cafe, since that seemed to be where the actual money came in. Her hand closed around her wallet... Star paused as she saw something pass out of the corner of her eye, her eyes widening suddenly as she turned her head. She straightened up. Wait, was that...Jameson? Looking like he was on a case? The cure to her boredom?!? "Heya, Jameson~!" said Star, a grin on her face as she ran over to him. "What's up?" "MISS! YOU FORGOT TO PAY!" shouted the shopkeeper after her. |

"Ahh.. It's the prodigal son of the WDA. Star Ricci.." Jameson said planting a hand on his side with a grin. However as soon as he thought of that his detective's brain began to work. What were the odds that among these hundreds.. Nay, THOUSANDS of people he'd see Star here! Pretty slim by his estimation! No, the fact someone he knew well and trusted showed up when he was hunting an IMPOSTER was a little-too-convenient. "Star..." He said with a sudden intense look. "Salvatrice Tatiana Annalisa Ro-sa-be-lla Ricci." He said twirling his cane in one hand as he circled her. He held it out just under her chin pursing his lips together narrowing his eyes to a glare. "IF that's who you REALLY ARE then TELL ME..." He smiled broadly. "What's my mother's maiden name?!" The classic trap. Using something only the real original would know to trick them into revealing they were the fake. He wasn't so easy to pull a fast one over on. He glanced up as the merchant suddenly shouted out about her not paying. FURTHER PROOF! This really WAS the criminal he was after! He drew a sword fro, his walking case and brandished it in front of him. "Hands where I can see them IMPOSTOR!" "Heh... Knew you were a fake all along. The real star would never wear such tacky, tasteless, lame, and unappealing clothes! Plus you're several pounds overweight for her! Learn your target better IMPOSTOR!" |

"Heh... Knew you were a fake all along. The real star would never wear such tacky, tasteless, lame, and unappealing clothes! Plus you're several pounds overweight for her! Learn your target better IMPOSTOR!" Jonny turned his head at the fedora guy's sudden exclamation that someone in the crowd wasn't who they appeared to be. And jumped slightly, unlike the crowd that was beginning to scatter completely, at the sight of a sword being wielded in public like this. He hadn't particularly met these two before, so he couldn't assume too much. But it'd be nice if they could avoid a rather dangerous incident in public. He walked towards the two, pulling out two apples, one for each. "Hey now, can't we all just settle down?" He offered the apples, since he didn't exactly have any olive branches on him. "Shouldn't you at least hear the young lady out first?" He put on his best smile, though there was the worry of how the fedora guy might react. After all, that sword looked pretty damn sharp... |

Star laughed nervously, scratching the back of her neck when Jameson mentioned that she was the prodigal son of the WDA. "Yeah....about that..." she said, giggling slightly out of nervousness. "I...uh...got a little distracted, so if you still want me back, I..." Star's eyes widened slightly as Jameson suddenly looked up at her with an intense look, twirling his cane and walking around her in a circle as he said her full name. She tensed, swallowing hard as he pointed his cane at her chin. Was this still because of the WDA? "Your mother's maiden name?" she repeated, a confused look on her face. "You never told me that." And Star would know if he had too, since while she didn't have a photographic memory, she had an annoying habit of remembering all the details of other people's lives. It was a habit born out of a lifetime of gossip. "Eep!" squeaked Star, raising her hands up as Jameson suddenly drew a sword at her and called her an impostor. Wait...impostor? The surprised expression on her face disappeared slightly as he began talking. Tacky...and lame...? Overweight?!? Star's face fell, and she sighed, lowering her arms as her shoulders slumped forward. It looked almost like she had been turned into a statue, and was now crumbling to dust and blowing away in the wind. I am crushed... Farewell, my womanly pride... Star straightened up suddenly and cleared her throat, one hand on her waist as she coughed into the side of her fist. "Ahem...must be the depth perception. Yes...the depth perception. That's it." Even as she did so, however, she loosened the scarf around her neck, tugging on it until it fell in a more fashionable manner. Star blinked as another boy walked up to them, holding out apples and asking whether or not they could settle down. She paused and looked up, looking at him from head to toe. He was about average height, just a little bit taller than her, and not too shabby looking either, but then again Hyakuji was a young girl's dream when it came to good looking guys. "Yeah, Jameson, hear the young lady out~" said Star, turning towards Jameson and pouting cutely. |

Jameson quirked a brow at the boy before sheathing his blade with a frown. "Stand back, kid. This one is a trickster. A master manipulator." He raised a single finger. "An.. IMPOSTOR." He said dramatically. So dramatically one could almost HEAR the dramatic swell of music. Actually here it is. "She's been sneaking around here day after day as a different person and impersonating them. Using their identities to commit increasingly elaborate crimes and then ditching the body so that the original is arrested. Eight arrests have occurred so far in relation to the crime and all cite the same thing: NO MEMORY OF THE INCIDENT!" He smiled broadly before turning to the crowd. His eyes widened momentarily before he clenched his fist cheerfully and thrust it into the air. "Hah. Gotcha!" He said taking off in a random direction from the two with no warning, leaving them both standing behind... If they didn't hurry they'd loose him as he burst through the mob of people. |

Jonny breathed a sigh of relief as the sword was put away, glad that someone would be willing to listen to reason. Reason which subsequently got tossed out the window however, as the accusations of impersonation continued. The scene was utterly surreal. He turned to the girl that was the target of these accusations, with an expression that simply read, 'is this guy for real?'. "She's been sneaking around here day after day as a different person and impersonating them. Using their identities to commit increasingly elaborate crimes and then ditching the body so that the original is arrested. Eight arrests have occurred so far in relation to the crime and all cite the same thing: NO MEMORY OF THE INCIDENT!" "Wwhhhhaaaaa-?" He wasn't quite sure if he could express how confusing this all felt... And yet at the same time how concerned it made him. If someone was impersonating people, then aside from the whole issue of identity theft, what if someone with powers was impersonated, and tried to resist arrest?! The school would be in even more trouble than it was normally. "Hah. Gotcha!" "Huh?" Blinking twice, Jonny watched the fedora guy raise one arm triumphantly, before walking off without a care in the world. Who the hell was this guy? His curiosity was officially caught by this strange man. "Ah wait a minute." He said, quickly pulling out his wallet, and handing the young lady a few notes each worth a thousand yen, before running off after the man in the fedora. "That should pay for whatever that shopkeeper was yelling about, right?" He yelled back at her, as he began to scan the crowd for that reocgnizeable fedora. Given the speed at which he could do that, it came as no surprise that he managed to find the guy soon enough. "Hold on!" He yelled, coming up alongside the man with a freaking sword hidden on his person. "That stuff with the imposter... Was it true?" |

A mischievous grin spread over Star's face suddenly, the confused and slightly hurt look on her face disappearing as Jameson suddenly changed tracks and ran off into the crowd. She turned towards the direction he had run in, her violet eyes lighting up. "As expected of Jameson," she said, flipping her hair back over her shoulder with one hand. Star blinked as the boy suddenly pushed money in her hand before running off after Jameson. "Wait, what?!?" she asked, looking up and calling after him. It was too late, though, he had already disappeared into the crowd. Star sighed. She had almost forgotten about the earrings. What a pain...maybe she could just go back from them later. Gold light began to shimmer around her, the sun's rays beginning to gather and coalesce as Star absorbed sunlight, topping off her stores. The gleam in her violet eyes grew. "Um...m-miss..." said the shopkeeper, tugging at her arm. "Here you go," said Star, handing the money over to him without looking. She would pay the boy back later. Probably. Or not. But for now... She grinned, extending her hand. White light shimmered around it, coating her palm. It wasn't an attack, but it was the beginning of one, just in case. She took off after them, running into the crowd. Star pushed and elbowed her way through the crowd of people, catching up to Jameson and running slightly behind him. "It's a nice sunny day, isn't it~?" asked Star with a smile and a giggle, closing her eyes and tilting her head as she waved at Jameson with her glowing hand. Then, her eyes snapped open and faced forward. |

Jameson darted through the crowd ignoring the dimwitted duo dubiously doing him the dubious disservice of drawing dangerous degrees of attention. He grit his teeth making his way through the crowd before he stopped just as suddenly as he'd begun to run. He winced visibly, limping on his injured knee and using the cane more noticeably after having had run. He moved forward with a smile eying an older man in an expensive suit. Jameson grinned clenching his jaw. "When I said gotcha I meant it.. Body snatching criminal!" Jameson said pointing at the man whom stared at him wide eyed. "It was a tough case to approach... Each criminal was actually innocent. Using my empathy I could feel their emotions and that they were being honest when they said they had no memories of the crime. The first clue was that they lost their memories. The second was on the fifth victim.. she had the same injury as the criminal. Simply changing your body to match the persons wouldn't injure them, right? So it had to be body snatching." "But.. That's also the problem. If you can literally be anyone how can I find you? My power only allows me to feel others feelings.. That's when I realized it. I needed to make you feel something specific. Something ONLY you'd have any reason to feel.." "The plan was simple." "I found my former assistant and accused her, making sure to draw lots of attention. By loudly mentioning your crime I knew I'd draw your attention especially. Once I had it I made it seem like you were off the hook. Which would naturally make you feel smug self satisfaction and relief.. Why would anyone else, upon seeing a man assault a girl with a sword, feel relief unless it was the criminal!" He laughed boldly. "Gotcha!" He turned to face the criminal but they were gone. "AH.. AHHHH HAHAAAAH?! WHERE'D HE GO!?" Aughhh! It'd happened again! A crook he had captured escaped while Jameson was caught up in his dramatic reveal of the crook's crimes and how he'd caught him! But this was especially bad! In this crowd, with a body snatcher... HE COULD BE ANYWHERE!? |

Jonny's words fell on what was either deaf ears, or ears that were far too caught up in whatever they were doing to listen to the questioning of a teenager. However, given how serious this was about to become for the man in the fedora, his question was pretty much answered anyway. He watched as the deductions and accusations began again, and he had to admit, he was impressed. It turned what had earlier little sense... into something that made perfect sense. Though he did worry at the back of his head that his feeling of relief from the sword being put away may have nearly made him a suspec- "AH.. AHHHH HAHAAAAH?! WHERE'D HE GO!?" The fedora man was a large ham in all he did, it seemed, as he expressed his feelings with nothing resembling subtlety. Then again, if someone capable of stealing a person's body was in a crowd of thousands, and you'd been moments from catching them... Wait... "Fedora guy!" He still didn't have a name, so he was hoping this would catch the man's attention. "That body snatcher has to have a limit to his powers, otherwise, wouldn't he just take your body, since you're the one who mainly suspects him?" Maybe it was eye contact, or a rule of 'one body per day'. Hell, you could argue that once the deductions began, the body snatcher could have just jumped away in someone else, and kept doing so. "At the very least, they've gotta be worried you're onto them, right? You said you could feel emotions, so maybe..." Maybe he was just really pushing how he might be able to help. Superspeed was useless in a situation where he didn't even fully know who - or what - he was looking for. |

Star skidded to a stop just behind Jameson as he pointed a sword at an older man in the crowd, breathing heavily. She wasn't unfit, but she wasn't exactly an athlete either, and running in heels was no picnic. Somehow, she had managed to catch up, though. Maybe the exercises she was doing with Jen were paying off after all. Her eyes were narrowed, focusing on the man in front of them. So, this was the thief? It wasn't hard to figure out that Jameson didn't really think she was some sort of thief. Of course, the situation would have been worrying, if Star hadn't taken his empathy into account. Feelings couldn't be faked, as far as Star knew, and as far as she knew, she wasn't a thief, even though she had nearly walked off with somebody's earrings. So it hadn't been a difficult connection to make to realize that she was being used as either bait or a distraction, two things she was good at. And by coming to her "rescue", the other boy only cemented the ruse. Star's eyes flicked over to him once as she watched the confrontation, still catching her breath. Her eyes widened. In that brief moment she had looked away, the man had disappeared? Her eyes scanned the crowd quickly, but she couldn't catch any sight of the old man. But if he was snatching bodies, it didn't matter. He could be anywhere in the crowd, and the longer they waited, the greater the chance that he could get away. Her eyes widened as she heard Jonny ask Jameson a question. That was it! But the crowd would already be worried, thanks to Jameson's display. To slow down the crowd for just a moment... "Vega!" called Star, extending her hand. Ribbons of light shot out from the glowing part of her palm, except, this time, they didn't bind themselves to a human target. They twisted around two lamp posts at the street corners just on the other side of the crowd, cutting off the road and creating a temporary barrier. The thief would either need to run past them, attempt to scale the barrier, or remain in the crowd. "I can't keep this up for too long," muttered Star, her fingers closed around the ends of the ribbons as she kept her eyes on the small portion of crowd she had blocked off.

"It's times like this that overpsyche would be useful.." Jameson said with a frown. "I'll jsut have to do it.." He closed his eyes focusing on the crowd around him. It was an ocean of thoughts. Each person felt different things.. Each person had different emotions but on a large scale he could feel a few larger emotions felt by most. This was due to innate similarities among humans.. Anger at being trapped.. Confusion about the situation.. Fear.. He needed the one feeling that went against these. The feeling that would give him away. In a river full of salmon swimming upstream he needed to find the single one going against it. But it hurt, it hurt so much to open one's mind. To release the barriers. Over psych could do it easily, but that was the forbidden power.. 'We'll Help so..' '..it's okay to use it..' 'Heh.. James and Mason? S'been a while.' Jameson closed his eyes and focused. He searched each mind carefully. He spread out his mental powers into each one. Using the support of James and Mason inside he searched carefully. It took only a few seconds in real time but in his mind it was ages.. 'Tch. I think we found your guy..' 'Y-yeah.. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to intrude!' 'Heh. What's going on here?' 'Is not the time to ask? Go catch the bad guy!' Jameson opened his eyes and dashed through the crowd, tackling a woman to the ground, forcing her arm up behind her back. "Okay minimize the barrier to just us, Star!" He said allowing the woman to stand. The woman turned, as soon as her eyes met the boy.. The woman went limp and.. Johnny would feel a sudden presence within his body! |

Jonny waited with bated breath as the search began, the fedora guy closing his eyes, either deep in thought, or presumably using his powers on a larger scale. The answer seemed to be the latter, because as soon as the man's eyes flew open, he was tackling a woman to the ground, ordering a barrier to be limited to them. It seemed success was in sight, and Jonny looked at the woman that was (most likely) the body snatcher's host... And then she looked at him. "Oh cra-" Jonny began to curse, but was cut short as quickly enough, everything faded to darkness. Oh... oh god... Jonny's thoughts it appeared were intact, presumably from the fact that unlike the others, he was aware of something being wrong. The others simply had no memory of the incidents they were involved in. My body... What are they doing with my body?! What if, what if they figure out my power?! On the surface, his body moved, being examined by its new host. It was a slim frame, almost certainly not one for boxing one's way out of a fight. However, there was this energy to it. An energy that the others had not possessed. Not!Jonny remembered the two that were after it, and decided it was better if it vacated the area whilst they were still under the presumption they had been successful. The body's light frame at least gave it a pretty good moving speed for itself... No... this was beyond something just good excercise could give. The area around the body was just passing by like a blur. The feet were pushing off with more power than a human body should naturally give. There wasn't even the slightest touch of resistance. The only time you'd ever go this fast would have to be on a vehicle. Or with superpowers. A grin drew across Not!Jonny's face. This was a half decent catch. Racing through the crowd, knocking aside anyone in the way... Oh, and tossing that pointless bag of apples back at either girly or one eye should they decide to follow. It was obvious they'd pick up on something being wrong with their friend soon enough. |

"Mm!" Star nodded at Jameson's command, her eyes narrowing in concentration as her ribbons quickly released the lamp posts and went slack before disappearing completely. They reformed in a smaller knot around the three of them, tying themselves around three points to form a triangle. She let out the breath she was holding and turned towards Jameson and the woman he had caught. She hadn't honestly been expecting to be able to do that. Maybe her training was finally paying off. Her eyes widened as the woman suddenly went limp, looking around. There were three people inside her barrier--herself, Jonny, and Jameson. Wait...Three? She tensed, realizing that all of a sudden, only herself, Jameson, and the woman were inside the barrier. Where had the other guy gone? Could it be...? "Jameson, he's gone!" said Star, scanning the crowd for him.
