Despite the fact that she was the one who started asking the questions about who he was and where he was from, she couldn't bring herself to be enveloped in interest like a normal human might be at getting to know someone new. The story was plain and sounded like most other teenagers', until the last sentence where he mentioned things got interesting. Should she pry further into this slip of the tongue and try to sleuth her way into his backstory? Or should she... ...not. New Robyn had enough excitement even getting herself to agree to an introductory coffee break. The whole situation unsettled her, and although the coffee shop was relaxing, knowing she was sitting her just chatting (without the prospect of a paycheck) made her a bit restless. She was having a hard time coming to terms with the idea of holding a friendly conversation for something that didn't benefit her in some way. Was that bad? That she couldn't even remember the last time she actually enjoyed talking to someone? She admitted she was simultaneously amused and amazed as Seth proved with gusto that he had almost no idea how to consume a hot beverage. The girl paused, holding her cup by the top and moving it in a circle to swirl its contents slowly. Although Robyn was not planning on asking anymore questions, it seemed that Seth had at least one of his own. "Uhm... what you said earlier... have you been betrayed a lot before...? Uh... AH! I'm sorry, sorry! I didn't mean to pry!" Robyn flicked her eyes over to the boy. He had wandered into dangerous territory to people other than herself and took his life into his own hands. Potentially literally. So she knew his name, and an extremely short biography, but this was far from grounds for her to open up about her own past. Unfortunately, her past tended to drudge up Old Robyn. The girl's hand swept over her holster, conjured one of her firearms, and pointed it at him under the table. "This right here," she hit the gun barrel a few times against his knee, "is a gun pointed at your family jewels. Maybe I made the mistake of opening up the forum to questions, but betrayal in my past is not one of the topics open for discussion. Got it?" Her voice was low and dead serious as she glared at him. Clearly this was a touchy subject. So much for chit-chatty, coffee-drinkin' Robyn. |

Okay... in this case it would probably hurt a helluva lot if they tried to get to know each other. A bead of sweat trickled down his face as his body froze up at the feel of something hard and metallic over one of his knee. He's not exactly unfamiliar with a gun, seeing as he had used one before, but that doesn't mean he's used to having the hot jet of flames and copper-jacketed lead spewing barrel pointed right at his manhood. Assuming it WAS some flames and lead spewing weapon. He raised the half-empty cut to his mouth and tipped the entire not-so-scalding-hot content into his throat in a single gulp. The cup was replaced on the table, gripped tight by his tense hand, and he ceased to make another noise. While the death threat pointed right at the middle of his legs might have made him stop talking, it did not strike enough cold fear in his head to completely freeze the running gears. Must've been something big for her to be so touchy about it. Perhaps she lost someone very important, or maybe, considering the talk about trusts and all, betrayed by someone she trusts a lot? He's not sure he had much to talk about traitorism or betrayalism or those sort of stuff, seeing as he had lived a pretty normal life for the most part. Maybe he's thinking too much. If she doesn't want to talk about it then let her be. Isn't this kind of the same deal with himself? He had kept his own problem all to himself all this time, never wanting anyone to know anything about it. Of course, her reasons may be of something a tad bit more... scarring. "...Usually a locket is for lovers but she doesn't have one.. or for family and if you do something familial it might open an old wound... I'm just saying though.." ...must've been a big wound. The time slipped by in complete silence, with Seth completely lost in thought as he began to absent-mindedly nibble on the polystyrene cup, stopping only when he accidentally breathed in one of the loose piece, causing him to gasp and choke as it entered his windpipe. Luckily he managed to cough it out before it got stuck in his lung and potentially kill him. With eyes slightly watery and gasping from the struggle, his eyes wandered over to the clock on the wall, staring at it before piping up, "Uh... should we go back now?" Robyn did not falter, and she didn't bat an eyelash as she watched the boy freeze behind her gunpoint. Some feelings inside of her were too strong to hold herself back from reacting at this point, and it was something that was going to take a long time to deal with. Chances were her issues would not be completely resolved until she dealt with the root of the problem itself...but that was quite a ways down the road. Once her message had been delivered and she felt more in control of the situation, she pulled the weapon back and seated it in its holster where the handgun promptly vanished from sight. "Well. I think I'm all 'friendly conversation'ed out," she stated matter-of-factly as she finished off the last few drops of her drink. She would not apologize, and she would not look back and regret her actions. That's not who she was, even if she may eventually turn back into someone like that. He seemed like a nice guy and could have no way of knowing she would react that way with that question. Still, she felt it necessary to make it clear that she was not ready to talk about those sorts of things. Not yet. Robyn stood up, buttoned her coat once more, and walked over to the trash can in the middle of his choking episode as if nothing were wrong. The girl resolved to wait until he started turning blue to step in, but luckily he fixed the situation himself by coughing up whatever was lodged in his throat. "Uh...should we go back now?" She already had the idea of going back to the Agency as it was likely someone was wondering where she was after all this time. She wrapped her scarf around her neck once, put one hand in one of her coat pockets, and replaced the sunglasses on her face. "Best idea you've had all day." She walked outside into the brisk early evening wind and slowly began walking back in the direction of the WDA, a pace at which he would easily be able to catch up if he really wanted to. |

The walk back to the new-but-still-dingy-office of the WDA was pretty uneventful. One might wonder why would he accompany someone who had just threatened to blast a hole through his ass, but that's the kind of guy he is. In a way, you could see him as a tactless annoying busybody who just can't leave others to their own device. But all in all, he just wanted to accompany her. Nothing more, nothing less. The snow crunched under their feet as they rounded the corner, and the WDA office loomed into view. That's it. Their final stop. At least, for her anyway. He doesn't have any reason to drop by the office since it had been rendered moot by the blue-haired girl. Oh, but to say goodbye juat like that? Somehow it felt kinda awkward, what's with recent event... "Uaahh!!!" He stopped dead in his track as his mind suddenly wandered off to a realm of something long forgotten. But that's pretty stupid, how the heck could he have forgotten? The person in question was right at his side all this time. But then again, he was a whole lot more preoccupied at the file under his arm. "Wait here..." he told her as he skipped ahead to the office, opening the door without a second thought and entered the compound. He hadn't even been in there for half a minute when he darted back out with a grin plastered over his face. He hopped down the stairs leading up to the office, hopped towards and stopping right in front of Robyn, holding up a small red package. "It's a bit late, but... Merry Christmas!" He said. What... I can't believe it... The meta-virus in his head muttered in disbelief and disgust. "Mm?" You haven't seen Aki for a few days and you're already flirting with another girl...? With every word his voice rose in intensity, growing coldervand more dangerously deadly with every syllable. "...h-huh...?" After a particularly long pause that word was all he could blurt out as his face slowly turns to a deep shade of red. He stared at her for a few momebts before turning around wordlessly, shuffling away from her as fast as possible. But not before he tripped over his own feet causing him to fall flat on his face. But he didn't even bother to care as he immediately picked himself up and continued his escape from his own awkward thoughts, no thanks to V. Robyn Nobody knows what happened to Seth after that. But considering it's V... Edited by Fin, Feb 26 2011, 10:50 AM.

Robyn was fine walking back to the Agency building in the silence. Most of her recent life went this way, and it made the transition to attempting conversations a little bit easier (although trying to start one was about as fun as waxing her legs). Her hands were shoved into her coat pockets as she walked, and she was deep in thought trying to figure out how to avoid an episode like that last one from happening again. It wasn't the fact that she had snapped at Seth that concerned her--she had threatened many a person and didn't blink twice about it. The problem was that she acted out so strongly to something she typically kept to herself. She wasn't one to air her dirty laundry as it were, and now she had made it apparent that something in her past was quite painful. Was it the fact that she disliked hearing about Seth's normal family past in comparison to hers that made her flip a switch? Maybe. But until she figured out how to identify the trigger, she would have to do her best to keep those emotions under wraps. She would not settle to have a weakness as cliche and obvious as "damaged goods" out as public knowledge. It could probably be deduced by the fact that she was a gun-wielding 19-year-old, but she didn't have to display it. Finishing up the walk without a word spoken between the two, they stopped next to the Agency building and Robyn gave a few curious blinks when Seth told her to wait for...something. The task of opening the door that he found so hard to do earlier was now a breeze for the boy, and it was only moments that passed until he returned to where she stood on the sidewalk. "It's a bit late, but... Merry Christmas!" he exclaimed as he held a small package out toward her. It was enveloped in red wrapping paper and had her name clearly written on it. A Christmas present? She couldn't remember the last time she did anything related to a holiday except work through one. All the Christmases from her childhood blended together into a confusing fusion of what she thought happened during them, and what she wished had happened as seen through warm-hearted commercials and children's television specials. She hesitated before taking the box from him, truly at a loss for words. No sarcastic comments, no "what are you getting at" looks. She'd been given her first gift in a long time without prompting by someone she hardly knew, let alone the fact that he'd intended it to be a Christmas present and she knew him even less back then. Robyn watched the mini series of events transpire where Seth seemed to be lost in thought, then his face flared up bright red, he clumsily tripped over onto himself, and suddenly shuffled away without saying another word before she even had a chance to think to utter a phrase of gratitude. The girl carefully unwrapped the paper to reveal the small, wooden box. She proceeded to lift up the crafted lid which cued the tiny mechanism hidden somewhere inside to start playing a soft melody. She didn't recognize the tune, but that was no matter. The girl stood on the sidewalk, hearing little more than the wind blowing past her and the music floating with it. The melody was borderline sad--it was strange how she could almost feel it welling up inside of her--and yet there seemed to be a feeling of hope that came through as the song continued. It truly was a beautiful song that slowly pulled up a feeling of nostalgia for the girl. It was like this simple gift was almost trying to draw her back to her past and everything she'd left behind, everything that had changed...and it was trying to tell her it was okay. All that from a song? Maybe she wasn't as stone-cold as she thought she was. She glanced up from the trinket to catch a final glimpse of the quirky boy stumbling down the sidewalk. Before a fraction of a smile or any other emotion crept itself onto her face, she shut the lid to the box and promptly cut off the music. Although it wasn't obvious by looking at her, she was internally glad to realize that coming to the WDA was the right choice, redirection into the right direction. Robyn tucked the gift into her coat pocket, climbed the stairs to the building, and walked inside before she dwelled on it too much. Edited by Sujin, Mar 8 2011, 12:53 PM.
