Oliver stretched out, arms pulled over his hands and interlaced as he stretched his back out to pop it. He was wearing black slacks and a black sleeveless t-shirt. His usual workout outfit that he didn't mind staining with sweat or blood. The new building was quite large. Even getting around within took a bit more time. Not that he minded it particularly. The basement was larger too and that meant more room for their training area..

Almost all of their worldly possessions had been lost in the explosion. And since a lot of them had been illegal reacquiring them was costly. Not only that but the new building was under construction almost everywhere. It was only by sheer luck three rooms were available for them to use. Even the basement was still being modified to contain the old basement's training facilities as well as some new ones. Jameson was really going all out on this building.

Either way so long as there was a clear spot of dirt a person could use it to hone their bodies. A person is just like a weapon. If you failed to polish it, clean it, and tend to it then the weapon would rust. In battle that rust would become a weakness that might cost you your life. That's what Johnson...

Oliver paused and frowned a bit as he stood in the stairway. He exhaled a long low breath. Keep moving forward. Keep moving forward.

He moved down the stairs with a towel over his shoulder carrying a duffel bag. He set both down near the door and opened it. The bag was filled with all of his usual equipment. This was one of his favorite things. Physical training. He loved the feeling of a good work out and enjoyed the competitive aspect as well. Besides, Chetri wasn't worth much in life but she was at least well trained.

He could learn a lot from her. Even if he'd never admit that in his entire life. "Okay, okay, everything is good.." He said sorting through the bag.

Chetri was somewhat luckier than Oliver, considering everything she owned was more or less stuffed into the 2 large bags aboard the skullgarry at the time. Her weapons, ammunition, and clothing were all brought along mainly in case they would be needed during the mission, and partly because they didn't have any other bags.

Dressed in black boots and pants, and a black sports bra, she'd been spending most of her time lately training in the basement, mainly due to lack of anything else to do.

Jameson was handling dealing with the building's contractors, and she didn't have any other hobbies. At least, not as herself anyway, although she had a few side skills she had picked up from using as cover.

But it was necessary in any case, to maintain herself, which she'd been having trouble with as of late. Necessarily, she'd cut down somewhat on her activity after being shot in order to recover, and she'd been having dizzy spells since the mission as well. They didn't last particularly long, nor was she really concerned. It was probably just stress from that time.

"You've been paying more attention to your training as of late." she observed as Oliver entered

"I got stabbed, shot, stabbed again, and for good measure I got to swim in ocean currents and freezing water twice in a period of around an hour. Originally I thought this job was supposed to be LESS stressful than my last. Suffice it to say I've decided to keep myself prepared for anything." He said idly as he glanced to Chetri. He walked over to the table and leaned back on it.

"Besides it's not like I've got anything else to do.." Previously before coming to Hyakuji he'd been fairly sucessful with women. Upon arriving that hadn't changed. As such he'd never really had a valentines for as long as he could remember where he wasn't traipsing around on some date or three. So a valentines without any dates felt.. weird. Of course since Christmas he'd been avoiding Quinn but it hadn't felt right to go out flirting with others either..

Great, another thing to be depressed about.

He needed to get out more. There just weren't any WOMEN around him anymore! Not including Chetri, Aki, Jen, And Fuu whom all didn't count for various reasons. (Those being bitch, taken bitch, aloof goof, and goof goof respectively) As such he had a lot more time for working out and venting frustrations through training or laying on a couch upside down with a sigh.

He alternated between the two regularly.

"So how are we starting? Usually with my female instructors stretching before a work out isn't a problem, but since it's you I went ahead and took care of all that on my own~." He said with a wry grin. He didn't really know why he always went all out on his perverted jokes around Chetri. It was just kind of fun since she never got shocked or embarrassed. It was basically like seeing how far he could take it before getting a reaction. Which, with her, was the moon.

"So what is it? Rocket launcher aiming practice? Rapidly dismantling a sniper rifle?"

"Unless you have a training device for those, then no. They are unnecessary for our current work, in anycase." she replied, although the validity of the second statement was dubious.

Anti-Tank weapons and Sniper Weapons Systems were both something they'd had to use recently. For a private detective group, they got into an absurd amount of trouble, and when she thought about it, someone had paid a very large sum to have these people removed. Enough that she had been deployed 10,000 or so kilometres to kill Jameson...

...But that didn't change the lack of methods to train in such things, and you didn't let people loose on the real thing. She didn't have any other rifles at the moment besides the rather large Gepard, which was something Oliver had no interest in handling.

"You wanted physical training, so it will be simple physical training and exercises. Unless you had something else in mind."

"I'd almost consider that line a joke but then, it's you." He said in relation to her comment about what would be 'impractical' to train for here. It wouldn't be 'impractical' to teach the members how to amputate limbs or deliver babies with their track record. Hell it sounded like something Jameson would find 'fun.' However Oliver wasn't going to pursue the issue on this one.

"I see, we're getting physical." Oliver said stretching. "Well usually they ask for dinner first but whatever.." he said taking out some gloves from his bag. He slipped them on and sent out a few punches directly in front of him, stretching his arms out, getting his blood flowing. Generally just working his way into it. He was eager but he was also tense. This was Chetri. He couldn't afford to go down easy.

He would never let himself live it down if she took him to the mat easy.

He grabbed his combat knife and stuck it on hid side. "Should we wear boxing gloves? I kinda find the bare knuckles method a bit more.. Hurm.. Intense?" He said placing his hands on his sides. "But similarly I'd hate to give you 1800's plastic surgery by rearranging your nose." Actually that sounded WAY more fun than it should. Nothing beat the feeling of biting down on a mouthpiece while slamming a fist into a dude's jaw and feeling that momentary resistance before a gratifying give.

"The first part of training is safety. The second part is learning. It's pointless to learn if you're unable to perform due to injury." she said, echoing the words of her trainers from long before.

It was quite simple really. She was an investment that had cost several million, and they spent millions more making sure she was fully trained and capable of handling her missions. It was simple business sense. Accidentally crippling or otherwise rendering such an investment unable to perform before it could pay itself off on missions was just something you avoided.

"First you will learn to train safely, then we will begin properly."

She started the lesson. Basics first, things you did, things you avoided, and simple demonstrations. It wasn't just physical things he had to learn, but a mindset. His past training had already given him a decent amount of the physical aspect, but quite obviously neglected the mental part.

Oliver exhaled a drawn out breath of frustration with her. However his tone when he spoke only contained a cheerful sing-song tune. "right right~" He said with a sigh as he wrapped his hands. He was really not looking forward to a bunch of this. He was eager to fight, hone his skills, learn some tricks of the trade. But the teachy talk was annoying. Like he didn't KNOW he needed to protect himself. He wasn't stupid. "I was joking."

He said pulling the straps. "I guess jokes are hard for you, though. Being the next thing up from a robot." He commented with a sneer as he walked over to the center of the room bringing his fists up. "Alright, let's start." He said confidently. He wasn't sure of much but he had confidence in his ability to scrap with just about anyone.

She nodded and walked a short distance, and it began.

An hour later

It was more physical training than really teaching anything, conditioning bodies to function for extended periods, and withstanding the stress of combat. It was mostly basics for the most part, which both would have been well acquainted with by now, but it was important regardless.

For the same reason that baseball teams generally did batting practice before a big game with a batting coach around even though they all knew how to swing a bat. The fundamentals were so named because they were, in essence, fundamental to what you did. You couldn't practice it enough, and it formed the basics of everything you did.

A blow was dodged by turning around, and using their own momentum against them to move to a pin.

Posted Image

An elbow used as leverage to disable an arm.

All basic motions learned in training, simple movements that generally took advantage of how the human body worked and moved, and allowed one to simply break an opponent's limbs, and avoiding getting it done to yourself.

There was nothing at all pretty about it. Elegance was a thing for show, and such motions were neither. Clean and efficient perhaps, but hardly showy, echoing the old mantra that no combat ready unit had ever passed inspection, but that no inspection ready unit had ever passed combat.

It was an exaggeration of sorts, but not a big one.

However, her motions seemed to be less efficient as things progressed. It wasn't from tiredness, that much was obvious. She wasn't sluggish in the least. It was more as if something was distracting her as she moved.

It was a bout of nausea, followed by a throbbing pain at the front of her head, seemingly just behind her eyes.

It started off minor enough, but quickly grew in intensity...

...And she quickly found herself pinned to the mat before she could deal with it.

This was pretty entertaining. She was slippery. Every time he tough he had her she evaded it right in time and when she struck she did so with a force that made him stagger. She wasn't a slouch. This level of expertise probably meant she was better than him. Even so he seemed to be doing rather well. He tried not to think to much of it, for now he just focused on taking her down.

And it finally happened. He managed to take her to the mat. Oliver panted heavily as he made sure to lock her joints. This tine she wasn't gonna use one of her annoying tricks to slip loose. He'd gotten her! He was about to call the match when he noticed her expression.. Combined with the somewhat sluggish way she'd been faltering for the last while..

He sighed and rolled over to the left laying on his back and catching his breath. "You're kidding me. All that and I pinned her while she was SICK. What a rip off!" He said catching his breath. He rose up to his feet and offered her a hand. However something seemed pretty legitimately off in her expression. His somewhat goofy grin faded.

"Hey uh.. Are you alright..?"

She quickly picked herself up, and moved into the seiza, gesturing that it was fine. Her expression however, said otherwise. For once, not it was not the perpetually calm, emotionless face she had during training, but one of actual discomfort, that managed to get through even her composure.

"I can't be certain." she admitted "But I should be fine momentarily."

It was a sort of throbbing pain accompanied by dizziness. Like waking up from a night of drinking, multiplied by a thousand in intensity and suddenness.

She didn't realise she broke out into a cold sweat in the middle of it. And then just like that, it was gone, just as suddenly as it came, so too did it part. As long as the pain ended, she could feel relief that there was something afterwards.

Chetri let out a deep breath, and sighed heavily, slowly taking her hand off her forehead.

Oliver exhaled a long breath. "I guess doctors are out of the question.." He said to himself, pondering over the best way to get her off his hands. "And Jameson's out right now for the next several hours.." He planted his hands on his sides and pursed his lips frowning. There was no one. She was stuck on him. He sighed heavily looking down. Awesome.

Part of him just wanted to act like since she felt better now everything was fine. That part of him was very vocal and demanding. However he knew that she was tough and wouldn't admit to being in pain unless it was extremely severe. And if that was the case then even if it faded if they didn't treat the source then it wouldn't matter. It'd be back in no time and perhaps in a much more troubling situation. As such he was left with one recourse.

He walked over to her planting a hand on his side with an obviously annoyed furrow in his brow. "So.." He said in a typically calm voice as if he were discussing the weather or something equally trivial. "what the fuck was that about?"

"I've just been having headaches at intervals since that incident." she replied plainly, as if it was something of no consequence "I believe it to be feedback from the over use of my special senses. A normal mind isn't designed to handle such perceptions, so I normally limit the amount of time I spend using it."

Normally used only in short bursts for minutes at a time, using it for over an hour, and in ways she'd never done before such as attempting to aid in transmitting the data as well as rapid processing for continuous updating was well beyond anything she'd ever attempted before then.

She'd experienced a mild migraine then too.

"It's not something that's supposed to be used for that long, and it's difficult to compute high level virtual space structures and walk at the same time." she continued "But it's something that's happened before."

"..I see." Oliver sighed heavily and planted his hands on his sides. This sounded a little bit too familiar to him. "Jameson used to get headaches from a power. And those eventually turned into brain bleeds. He damn near killed himself using that power. Hell, so far as anyone knows he DID kill himself." He said taking a drink from his bottle of water as he eyed her warily.

"He pushed himself that far for others. I wonder why you're pushing yourself so hard?" He sighed with a smirk before shrugging his shoulders in mock defeat. "But then you've probably got a perfectly rational reason. You're not an idiot like Jameson."

He didn't like it. The idea that the mission to save him was having such an effect on her, but it seemed like it was perfectly manageable for her. For now he'd just try to keep an eye on her. "Resting is a soldier's job too, you know? Maybe you should take it easy for a bit. It's not like we're all gonna drop dead if you take a sick day.." Oliver said tucking his drink into his bag.

Either way it seemed like for today they were done and he'd part with her here. Nothing could be gained from training with someone not on their game and pushing her further might do more harm than he already had. Even so it didn't seem like she needed much more immediate care than some rest and time to recuperate. It wasn't like he was a brain surgeon.

"It was to increase the chance of success of finding you within our time limit." she replied. "However the damage, while troublesome, isn't entirely serious, and I'm capable of operating as I am if it becomes necessary."

It actually wasn't as bad as the first time, way back when they were establishing exactly what her limits were. That had taken half a year to recover and she'd been blind in the meantime. The examination afterward revealed absolutely nothing wrong with her eyes, but only problems with the nerves.

It was strange really, but then one must always expect strangeness when pushing boundaries of mixing thaumaturgy and normal sciences.

"In anycase, this session is concluded. I apologise for not being able to assist further for the moment."

"It's uh... It's cool." He said digging his hands into his pockets as he pursed his lips, eying her with a thin frown. He didn't feel great about leaving her but she said she was fine and she looked okay and frankly he didn't want to get more mixed up in this than he absolutely had to. The last thing he wanted to do today was be her caretaker.

So long as she was fine he'd just leave it at this. He wasn't going to force the matter, that's for sure. It was.. awkward being around her. She was so frustrating and at the same time occasionally she said things that were easily misconstrued. Perhaps it was him humanizing something that wasn't human but he was always getting the wrong idea. And that mad an insufferable person MORE insufferable.

He exhaled a long breath before tossing his bag over his shoulder and heading for the stairs. Best to get out of here before she went into epilepsies and he was forced to hot-wire her heart to the electrical outlet.

Perfectly feasible scenario.

Man, actually that sounded AWESOME.
