[Immediately following the return from the Endgame mission] Oliver exhaled a long breath. The sun was rising setting an end to the longest day of his life. Even the hours since the incident hadn't done much to help his body recover. Shortly after the fight was over his wounds had re-opened. It seemed the REGEN program was still flawed. He'd been carefully bandaged and the program had at least sopped the serious injury. But all the places have become sore and painful. But he knew he wasn't feeling anything compared to his traveling partner. He glanced over to Chetri with a frown. He still wasn't entirely sure about how he felt about all that had happened. And the more he thought about it the worse it got. It was like a sore. The deeper he dug at it the more he realize how it hurt. Johnson was his leader, mentor, and friend for four years. Even so when he pointed that gun at Oliver's head it was with the intent to kill him. "..should be ashamed someone that I trained couldn't.." His last words to Oliver were that he was ashamed of him. And he pointed that gun. When Chetri burst in the gun had fired at her. The safety wasn't on. It really was a real gun pointed at him with the real intent to kill him. His stomach churned a bit. A flash of his blood and.. an. He gripped his stomach uncomfortably. He turned to Chetri. "Are you okay? Shouldn't you have that removed already..?" He said to break the silence in his own head. The thoughts moving around in circles with no rest. |

"Not in the field, it's better to have somewhere secure." Chetri told him, looking outward. She had the usual dull expression on her face rather than a full grimace, and had since put away her knife and jacket, leaving only the wetsuit on, but she was still keeping watch regardless. Just in case there was some other last ditch thing to come from the outside at the last minute. Terrorists often followed a scorch earth policy afterall. If they couldn't win, noone would win. Were they really terrorists though? ...Her mind didn't bother asking. As far as she were considered, they were armed enemies who'd taken a chance, and failed. In battle, you looked after yourself, and if someone bested you, that was your fault, not his, and that was that. "You shouldn't be too concerned." she said, reading his face "I'll live. We were designed to take some damage while remaining operational." It was just abit of pain, and she bled as people normally did, but after a moment the pain faded away, and the body forced itself to work normally. It was part engineering and part mental conditioning, but the damage wouldn't really get much worse on the way back in anycase. |

"... I dunno whether you're tough or stubborn.." Oliver said with a small frown as he stared at her. "But I suppose I agree." He said, looking away. He glanced over towards the trucks with several of Johnson's men left in there. His stomach churned a bit again. His men.. They'd let Johnson so all that without stopping him. They were all just as guilty as Johnson himself. Oliver looked down at his hand.. HE was just as guilty as them. Given the chance to stop Johnson once and for all he had failed. He'd let Johnson live. If it were up to him he would be dead and Johnson would still be on the loose. In deciding to back down at that moment he was just as guilty as every one else. He looked towards Chetri and back down. He pulled his legs to his chest and rested his arms around them. He leaned forward setting his chin on his knees as he exhaled a long breath. "I wonder what fate awaits them.. In America... Tch! Knowing Jameson he'll go easy on them. I really worry about his decisions sometimes." Edited by Cypriss, Feb 14 2011, 07:02 AM.

"It's unusual, but our objectives were all met." she replied "The vessels were destroyed, the threat is averted for now, and you're safe." It felt abit strange letting the survivors go nonetheless, but she was rarely involved in the post-mission details even back then, and this probably made sense in someone's mind. She supposed it would have been hard covering up anything further. "Though I can't say I don't find it strange that you're being let go like that." Edited by Katyusha, Feb 14 2011, 07:13 AM.

'I'm safe..?' He glanced towards her eying her curiously before looking away again. He rested his chin in his upturned palm trying to not think anything from that. She most likely meant it as in 'you're all safe' as in the others. Not him specifically. He was reading into it too much due to his own confusion over his own issues making his brain read too deeply into things. But this was Chetri. She didn't really have hidden meanings like that. "Welcome to the absurd world of dealing with Jameson." He said with an exhausted sigh. "He never does anything in a logical fashion. It's all raw emotion for him. Even in situations like this." Though Oliver wondered if he were truly the one whom ought to be saying this since he'd acted in such a way earlier. Thinking with his gut instead of his brain, and failing to do what he'd set out to do. "Sirus and Shiko, two of our enemies from today, They're going to Join Beaumont and go back to America. Apparently they're going back in secret. The others are peacefully submitting themselves. though for them it was either that or die in the ocean.." He exhaled a long breath soundings defeated. "No matter how I try to talk Monty out of it he thinks he should. He's a lot more like his brother than I thought.." He said resting his chin in his palm. "But. .I was thinking and.." He glanced towards Chetri before looking down. "It's not like I'm trying to get rid of you, hell as much as I hate to admit it you saved our asses today. Without you we probably wouldn't have fared so well. It just might be for the best, you know? They're soldiers like you and on the run. In a way you can maybe relate to them? Didn't the thought of going with them cross your mind at all?" |

She turned towards him and looked at him. It was just before 6 in the morning, and the sun was still lazily rousing itself over the Horizon and the breeze that blew past them was a little chilly from the winter air. The same old scenery of a pleasant morning, it was hard to imagine there was such a violent struggle only hours earlier, as she her softly rustled in the wind. ![]() "It's because you asked me to stay." she said, in that same voice "You told me to see where I would end up, and I want to see it with my own eyes as well." She was quoting his words from before. Paraphrased of course, but she could have recited every word if he asked. |

Oliver turned to her, eying her with surprise. Was that.. Could that..? It was hard to see, but maybe it was a bit of a smile? Could he allow himself to think that? Or was he just reading into things again? However as she repeated the thing he'd told her way back at the Christmas party his expression paled somewhat before he shifted uncomfortably. "W-..who told you to take my words to heart like that?" He sad unfolding his hand and using it to covered his face as he looked away, his cheeks beginning to burn from something other than the biting cold of the morning air. This was the second time she had recalled his words as a reason for the way she acted. Was it like this for everyone? Did his words have special impact? He wasn't sure. what he was sure of though was that it was EXTREMELY embarrassing to hear from someone else. "Tch! ninty-nine years! You're still ninty-nine years too soon to be quoting things I say! That's not fair play!" He said grumpily as he stared out the window, burying his head into his palm. |

"I see." she noted "To be more accurate, I was paraphrasing, but if you find this unacceptable, then I shall desist." With that she turned to look back outside. It really was a pleasant morning afterall, despite what had happened earlier. In sunlight, another day. A battle had ended, In a short a short span of time, many lifetimes came to premature ends. But they'd survived. They accomplished what they set out to do, and protected their lives and those of their comrades in arms. And that was that. It was just a matter of living day by day. A battle has been fought, and is now over. Place your sword upon the ground, and rest in the temporal peace. And after dozing in the warmth of a dream, a new day will begin. The days keep passing by... And we still chase the same star we once saw. |
