Haien wandered through the aisles of clothes, occasionally looking at something, then frowning and shaking his head. Humans had such strange tastes. How hard could it be to find a set of robes that would fit a slender, feline-like mage? Very, apparently. Haien was good enough at the more common spoken languages of humankind...but reading them was another story. He brightened, seeing a few things that somewhat resembled his own flowing garb, and walked over, taking them off the rack. <<Humans really need a better system of organization. Would it kill them to have a section of clothes for magic-users?>> The young Faine said out loud in his native language as he walked into a changing room.

A few minutes later, a cat...girl? emerged from the changing room, carrying robes over her? arm. Haien set the robes down and turned to study his reflection in a mirror. <<They fit a bit differently. But then again, they are human garments, not exactly made for a Faine.>> He straightened his dress and tugged his cardigan so it was more centered. Haien studied his reflection again, and giggled. He looked almost like a human female. Only the ears and tail suggested his non-human origins. <<Strange robes...but they do fit well enough. All I really needed was a change of clothes...>>

The Devil Pig is here!
Trystan sat on a bench outside a popular clothing store, watching the people go by. Nina sat next to him, with a cup of lemonade clasped between her hands, silently sipping at the liquid inside. They were people watching, as part of the self-imposed study of "Behavior of Normality" class. It was mostly for Trystan's benefit, honestly, as most people were entirely convinced of Nina's abilities as a maid; what most people couldn't understand was the sometimes outlandish behavior of her Master. While he had gotten much better at behaving normally, or at least much better relatively speaking, Trystan would still sometimes let loose strange exclamations. Today, however, Trystan's focus was drawn towards a clothing store. This was because, for the seven hundred eighty three thousand seven hundred and twenty fourth time since he had set foot in Hyakuji, someone had commented that his normal choice in clothing was strange. When Nina had heard about this, she insisted that it wouldn't do, and simply dragged her confused Master towards the mall.

They were going to buy Trystan some casual clothes.

As such, they were parked in front of a popular store in order to see what types of clothes people tended to buy nowadays and, so far that they could tell, it was basically everything that Trystan objected to wearing. T-shirts he was fine with. However, while such things as jeans were durable, they were either all way too loose, or were way too tight. What good would wearing such things do if they were liable to be caught on a branch and tripping you while jumping between trees or dodging projectiles? Furthermore, if they were too tight, how would you be able to even run away in the first place? To hell with being trendy, long live the useful! It was at this moment that one certain individual caught his eye.

He? Or was that individual a she? He couldn't really tell at this distance. At any rate, some feline humanoid had walked into the shop, and, despite being dressed in masculine looking clothing, had wandered into the female section of the shop. Was he/she/it a pervert? Perhaps he/she/it was into crossdressing? What if he was just judging a book by its cover, and that individual was just a really masculine looking woman? He turned to Look at Nina to see if she had seen any of it; he really should have known better. All he was greeted with was a sideways glance of her typical poker face before she returned to drinking the lemonade. She really had a serious sweet tooth. Rather, how was it that he hadn't actually found out about this until now? Scratching his head, Trystan stood up, then turned his head towards Nina.

"Well, let's head in then."

Nodding, Nina finished off the rest of the lemonade, patted out the wrinkles in her dress, then stood up, standing at ready beside her Master. As they moved in, maneuvering along the gaps formed by the people inside already shopping, they passed by the changing area. All Trystan could do was stand and stare at the scene that unfolded in front of him, with a slightly aghast expression on his face. Seeing her Master's face contorted to such a strange countenance, Nina turned to look as well. Even her normal poker face showed slight cracks of unease.

Standing before them was an obviously very masculine looking indvidual, dressed in a loose-fitting cardigan, twirling and giggling to him/her/itself in front of a mirror. Actually, scratch the him/her/it part - that individual was definintely a male. To top it all off, he was mumbling something to himself in some incomprehensible language, and had a pair of ears and a tail to boot. Trystan had met several mentally unstable individuals before in the past, and so he knew that the best approach to this sort of situation was simple kindness and understanding that perhaps he didn't really know what was going on around him. The slight tug at the hem of his shirt told him that Nina thought it would be a better idea to simply leave him be, but that simply wouldn't do!

"Excuse me, but...that's a fine looking piece of women's apparel, eh?"

Way to be blunt, Trystan. Way to be blunt.

Haien tilted his head, turning to face the human male behind him. "P-pardon?" He asked "I-I-I didn't q-quite catch th-that..." He said, once again stumbling over the unfamiliar syllables. He studied the eyes of the human who had addressed him, amber and blue eyes meeting. After a moment, Haien nodded, assured that the human was not a mage. "C-could y-you repeat th-that please?"

For someone who looked decidedly male, he somehow managed to pull off wearing a dress. All Faine were slender, allowing Haien to easily fit into the dress. And his shoulders were narrow enough to fit the dress as well. The one major flaw was his face, which, despite the delicate features of his species, were still undeniably male.

OoC: Hope you don't mind my joining in

Erin held up a green sweatshirt pulling it out so he could check the arm length, but really he was engaging in his bad habit of eavesdropping. A... person had come out of the changing room in a dress. Erin of course didn't judge. He looked nonhuman and who was Erin to say that wasn't a girl.

Then Trystan blurted out that it was girl's clothes. Erin snorted a laugh. So, someone else did think it was a guy. He turned away from his sweatshirt and got a better look at the student in drag. Erin thought a moment and decided he was okay with people in drag.

Since he'd made his decision Erin walked behind Trystan and said, "Hey, just leave him alone. He can wear a dress if he wants." And the cross-dresser was stuttering all nervous and scared now too.

"P-pardon? I-I-I didn't q-quite catch th-that...C-could y-you repeat th-that please?"

Well, now he had gone and scared the crossdresser. All Nina could manage was to ease herself back into her normal poker face. However, before Trystan could reply, he was approached from behind by another individual.

"Hey, just leave him alone. He can wear a dress if he wants."

Turning around, Trystan vaguely remembered the face of the individual speaking. He was definitely a student at Hyakuji High, but he couldn't remember the name. It really wasn't a matter of whether the crossdresser wanted to or not; it was a matter of whether or not he knew that he was actually crossdressing. It was this sort of fine distinction that distinguished a pervert, a crazy, and a perfectly normal individual in Trystan's mind. For example, if the crossdresser knew that he was crossdressing, but honestly felt that he looked better in and preferred to be in female clothing, then that was perfectly normal. If the crossdresser had no idea that it was female clothing and/or was mentally unstable, then it was obvious that it was no act of perversion. However, if the individual was getting some sort of exhilaration from the act of crossdressing, then the individual was without doubt a pervert. His prior statement, while ill made in retrospect, was simply him trying to discern what to categorize this crossdresser as. In a desperate attempt to convey this sort of thought process in one short go without sounding desperate, Trystan tried to stammer out a reply to the non-crossdresser that he still couldn't match a name to. However, Nina, having read her Master's mind due to sheer familiarity, decided that she would speak for him instead of having him try to stammer out something incomprehensible, as he was prone to in situations such as this.

Maybe Master will...reward me later?

"Yes, but what if he doesn't know that he's crossdressing?"

"Yes, exactly right!"

Honestly, he probably didn't know how close to the truth this statement was. In other words...

Trystan still thought he was dealing with a crazy.

A look of confusion crossed Haien's face. There was a word he was unfamiliar with. "C-crossdressing?" Haien asked, his gaze moving between the two human boys. Dress? What was a dress? For that matter, what was crossdressing?

Haien tilted his head to one side, raised one eyebrow, and put his hands on his hips, unconsciously assuming a pose he'd seen older Faine take dozens of times when confronting another. He wasn't sure if humans and Faine had the same body language, but the tilt of the head signified a question. The raised eyebrow hinted at amusement or a desire for conversation, and the hands on hips suggested impatience.

"W-what is a...d-dress? And what is...c-cr-crossdressing?" Haien asked, locking eyes with the first of the humans, the one who had first spoken to him.

"A dress is a kind of women's clothing. Cross-dressing is wearing clothing of the opposite gender." Erin answered calmly. So the guy really hadn't known he was wearing girl's clothes? That was a bit strange. Well, they probably dressed differently wherever he was from.

"Umm... What kind of clothes were you looking for?" Erin questioned. It seemed like a normal enough question to him. He still couldn't believe the guy hadn't realized what he was doing. He'd been really impressed by Haien's confidence. Erin wouldn't have been able to walk around in a dress, even if he did want to. He'd have been too embaressed.

He didn't really have anything to add, even though the question was directed at him. As such, he decided to focus on the question that the student had posed to the apparently non-aware crossdresser. Actually, that'd be incorrect now that they knew he wasn't actually trying to crossdress. Regardless, it certainly was a valid question to ask. Just what sort of clothing was the man trying to look for that he'd go ahead and try on female clothing? Was there something about that sort of clothing that he had picked that particularly suited his needs?

Deciding that the situation required more thought, Trystan simply decided to take a thinking position, with one hand crossed over his chest and the other brought up to his chin. It was a highly dignified and pensive manner, if he did say so himself. Nina merely looked on in slight disbelief. How was it that they had gotten into this situation in the first place? Oh yes.

Curiosity killed the...cat?

Nina heaved a sigh. Was that even the right time to use such a phrase?

Well, this is Hyakuji after all...

Haien turned his attention to the second human boy. "W-woman's clothing? You m-mean humans have d-different clothes for i-it's ge-genders?" He asked, the confusion on his face becoming more plain. He glanced down at himself and shrugged. "I w-w-was looking f-for robes..." The Faine explained. "I-I only have th-the one ch-change of clothes." Haien gesture at his carefully folded robes. "Th-this garb...it is r-rather similar t-to the robes c-common to my p-people."

Haien belatedly studied the eyes of the second boy, searching for that elusive sign that the human was a magic-user. It wasn't there. For a town hosting a school for the supernatural, there were surprisingly few mages. Then he spoke again. "J-judging b-by your r-reactions...This form of g-garb is frowned upon?"

Robes? Who wore robes? Well, he supposed a lot of people at Hyakuji probably did. It was wizardy When he asked if it was frowned upon Erin shrugged, "Eh, maybe a bit. If you feel comfortable then go for it." Erin didn't mind the guy wearing a dress. It would just confuse people a bit.

"Mostly guys wear slacks or jeans... from the other side of the store." Erin said with another shrug. He wasn't really sure where he was going with this. He patted Trystan's shoulder and nudged him forward so he would take over explaining concepts.

"W-woman's clothing? You m-mean humans have d-different clothes for i-it's ge-genders?"

Humans? The unknowing crossdresser made it sound like he wasn't a hum-

...

Well, it should have been obvious by now that he wasn't. Just one look at the ears and the tail on his head and lower body should have been enough to alert him to that fact. It was probably due to the fact that there simply were so many different people with relatively strange appearances that it never really stood out until now. Hell, even now, there were some strange looking ones in the crowd...Or perhaps that was just a special job a the barber's that led to something like that. Shaking these thoughts from his head, Trystan returned to the conversation at hand.

"I w-w-was looking f-for robes...I-I only have th-the one ch-change of clothes. Th-this garb...it is r-rather similar t-to the robes c-common to my p-people. J-judging b-by your r-reactions...This form of g-garb is frowned upon?"

"Eh, maybe a bit. If you feel comfortable then go for it. Mostly guys wear slacks or jeans... from the other side of the store."

Trystan felt a slight nudge from behind. Was the student asking him to give the cat...boy? advice? Well, if someone who was already well-dressed like he was stumped, then what was the one who came here trying to figure out how normal people dressed supposed to help either? He glanced over towards Nina, trying to catch her attention. Her only response was a simple stare, as if saying "go on", and then to turn away. Resigning himself to his fate, he decided to simply try to come up something on the spot. If he failed badly enough at this, either Nina or the other student would take over for him, right?

"W-Well, what he said is more or less correct. As you can see above -"

Trystan pointed to the signs above their heads. Time to show off his newly gained knowledge.

" - clothing for humans are divided into several different categories: Male and Female. At other stores, this can be further divided up into things like casual wear and formal wear, or even male children of certain ages and female children of different ages! Uh...Some other stores will also specialize in selling clothing for specific occasions! They can get really expensive! Er...Shoes you generally go to another entire store to buy! Did you know that even shoes are divided in this fashion? You have formal shoes, casual shoes, sports shoes, running shoes, walking shoes, basketball shoes, soccer cleats, and more! Um...Anyways! It's absolutely incredible!"

Basically, he was just rambling and had no idea where to take this either.

Sighing, and deciding that it was about time she stepped in, Nina continued.

"As my Master and this other individual was saying, clothes for men are located on the other side of the store. If you want to purchase something here, be prepared to spend some more funds than usual, as this is a store which sells some of the more popular goods. If you are looking for something similar to what you are wearing...I think it might be faster to simply get one tailor-made from wherever you originally obtained it. However, if you need something looser, try finding items marked as 'loose-fitting', or simply look larger. Either way, there are changing rooms, as you have figured out, and you can simply keep trying the clothes on until you find one that is suitable. I would also suggest that -"

The only thought that Trystan could conjure as Nina continued on her monologue of impromptu advice about masculine clothing was that women really did have an overflowing amount of opinion on dressing up. Now that he thought about it, why couldn't she just have told him all of this before engaging this exercise? After a moment longer, Trystan decided that perhaps keeping it simple at first may be better for someone who was still new to the concept of the clothing habits of humanity. Hell, even he didn't know that much about it.

Not that it was saying much.

"Er...Nina...maybe that's too much at once for him?"

Pausing mid sentence, Nina simply bowed slightly, acknowledging what she perceived as an order, then straightened up and stood behind Trystan once more.

The look of confusion faded from his face as the woman talked. He half smiled when she suggested getting more clothes from the Silver City. Hardly. It was almost impossible to get messages to and from the City as it was, and it was entirely impossible for someone of his limited abilities to send such a message. So it would seem he was limited to the clothing of humankind. Haien analyzed the information the woman had given him. Prehaps learning the written language humanity would be somewhat fruitful. Haien looked thoughtful, unconsciously reaching up and playing with the little braid that hung down next to his face.

The comments of the three humans had merit. Though the apparently female garments were comfortable and quite like his robes, his job was to fit in, not stand out. Then again...anyone who happened to know that Haien was in Japan searching for the missing Tablet....would be looking for a male Faine. The corner's of the mage's mouth curled up slowly, and his left eyebrow rose in the Faine gesture of amusement. This could get interesting.

"T-thank you for y-your help. I believe that I was supplied with s-sufficiant funds however." Haien was relieved to find that as he practiced his english, his stuttering reduced somewhat. "I believe t-that I know what to s-shop for now." Haien's mind quickly took into account the amount of human money he had, and figured he could buy...four new outfits? Yes. And at least one should come from the male side of the shop... Who would have guessed that humanity could be...interesting.

Alright. That went well. The guy had rambled on in confusion and the girl had spoken sensibly. Trystan was her master? That obviously meant he was rich. "You know friend. You'd look good in a nice suit. Not black of course but say a charcoal..." Erin cut off. Why was he trying to sell this guy a suit? He didn't work here. He should have convinced him he should buy the four of them lunch or something.

Turning to Haien, he stepped in close and rested his hands on his shoulders. "You look very nice in a dress so don't feel the need to buckle under pressure." There, Erin had said what he felt needed said.

Somewhat surprised at the compliment from the second human boy, Haien tilted his face up, and smiled. A surprising smile, coming from a male of any species, one that lit up and almost seemed to transform his entire face. It was an expression that matched his feminine attire perfectly. "Thank you." He replied. "Now...what is this...suit of which you speak" Haien didn't even notice his lack of stuttering. Humankind and their fascinating clothes and customs. Hmmm...come to think of it... "I b-beg your pardons...but I don't believe we've been introduced throughout our entire c-conversation." Haien reached up and touched his own forehead, the ritual greeting of a Faine to a non-Faine non-mage.

"My name is Haien Arvoitus. It's a pleasure to meet the t-three of you."

"T-thank you for y-your help. I believe that I was supplied with s-sufficiant funds however. I believe t-that I know what to s-shop for now."

Well, that was good to hear - they had helped out a confused individual in their time of need!

"You know friend. You'd look good in a nice suit. Not black of course but say a charcoal..."

Trystan merely turned and blinked with a confused expression. Why exactly was this student suddenly sounding like he was trying to sell him something? Actually, that wasn't exactly right - it was more like something about the attitude was changing with which he was being spoken to. Perhaps it was more reserved? In any case, it was possible that he was just being overly sensitive. Maybe he really would look good in a suit! However, that wasn't really what he was out to buy today, and, furthermore, he didn't think that this store actually sold suits, let alone in a color that sounded like it would need to be custom-made. However, before he could reply, to the comment which was directed at him, the student had already turned to talk to the other individual.

"You look very nice in a dress so don't feel the need to buckle under pressure."

[/i]Maybe he's actually a fashion guru in disguise?![/i]

"Thank you. Now...what is this...suit of which you speak"

When the individual smiled, Trystan jumped slightly in surprise. How did a man manage to look so feminine? As he thought about this question some more, he naturally turned to the only female companion he's known. Nina rarely smiled, and when she did, it was always with a fleeting sort of grace. In some sense, it made waiting for them all the more worthwhile. Regardless, he wouldn't have minded if she did let some emotions through her pokerface more often. In response to his gaze, Nina turned to look up at Trystan as well. However, with nothing he really wanted to say, he simply flashed a bright smile at her, before he turned back to the conversation, and her her gaze back towards the general direction of the feminine apparel section of the store. The individual seemed to have paused in what seemed to be mid-thought, then immediately started stammering out a self-introduction

"I b-beg your pardons...but I don't believe we've been introduced throughout our entire c-conversation. My name is Haien Arvoitus. It's a pleasure to meet the t-three of you."

"Ah, you are absolutely correct," said Trystan, bringing his hands up, with left palm over right fist, in a traditional Chinese salute.

"My name is Yamato Trystan. Pleased to make your acquaintance."
