"You're misunderstanding. They didn't 'break' me." she explained "There was nothing to change, would be more accurate." 'Breaking' implied that she had something before that afterall. |

Oliver sighed a bit as she spoke. Her words hit him right in the gut. Wow, way to guilt trip a guy, Chetri. Not that she really meant to. That was the thing with her. It was like kicking a dog that pissed in the carpet. The dog just didn't KNOW the carpet was valuable. She was the same as that stupid dog. She said the most cold, cruel things without really knowing it or understanding. She ignored kindness and failed to show any appreciation for anything done for her. She had basically ignored the Christmas party and not done anything for anyone despite what Jameson had done for her and the others as well. No, maybe she was worse than a dog. At least a dog would lick it's master to show affection.. Oliver sighed throwing his hands up in defeat. "Whatever, that point is moot anyhow.." He said before planting a hand in his side. "The real point was that you're a better soldier. Though that's hardly a compliment. Rather than being praised for being a good soldier I'd rather be a good person or a good friend." Even if she was like a dog he couldn't help but kick her though. She just got on his nerves. Edited by Cypriss, Jan 13 2011, 01:18 PM.

"I am neither of those things." she told him simply. She knew her own limits at least. And the ability to emulate human behaviour was not the same as doing it yourself. It was like acting. However real it might seem, in the end, the point was that it wasn't. Chetri gave Oliver another look. His countenance seemed different from earlier. good. "You're more relaxed now." she noted "That's good." |

"well obviously you're not." Oliver said with a scoff. "I mean it kind of goes without saying, right?" He continued on ignoring what she'd said for a moment so that he could take a jab at her that she had provided for him so graciously. It'd almost be rude NOT to take the opportunity that she had provided. However to the second comment he could only laugh aloud. Was she trying to boast? Or was she just someone whome could only state obvious facts? "What can I say, being around you is just so relaxing.." He said not even bothering to hide the sarcasm in his voice. However the truth was that he WAS more relaxed than he had been earlier. So what he was saying sarcastically wasn't that far from the truth. Not that he'd admit that to himself or her. Sarcastically saying the truth, meaning what he said while acting like he didn't. One could call that a compulsion. "So what's the deal with the guns? Subconscious expression of repressed sexual desire or are you just bored and without a hobby?" He said smirking to himself. He lacked a filter around her because no matter what ridiculous thing he said she never reacted. It was sort of like talking to a table. You could just say whatever and the table didn't care. |

"I don't understand your line of questioning." She would have raised an eyebrow if she had been mindful enough to have a facial reaction. "I'm simply preparing the equipment for the mission. You should know this." It was an odd question really. He of all people should have already known the answer. In a few hours, they would be needed, and everything should work perfectly then, or it would lead to complications in the middle of the mission. The perversity of the world already had a habit of turning the most carefully laid plans into hash by dumb luck and bad circumstances. That was why you guarded against that by making sure everything worked beforehand and were thoroughly prepared for anything. |

"And yet i'm sure the guns were already cleaned recently and beyond the practice with handguns they haven't been used. That being said I guess your point is no less valid even considering that." Guarding against catastrophe. A misfire in a critical moment could be the end. Even so it felt like she was overdoing it. Well whatever, not like he cared how she chose to spend her time. "I should know this, I should know better.. You sure to seem to have a high opinion of me.." He said sarcastically to himself. This was the second time she had inferred that he should be a little more aware of why she was doing things the way she was. What? Had she somehow gotten the idea that they were the same? "Just because I'm the only one with previous military training it's not like I'm at your level.. I ran a bunch of mission but they were all relatively amateur level. I was in a high school recruitment program where they used the school as a front to recruit people with powers. As such the amount of time I had for training was limited... It's true I'm trained in sidearms and heavy firearms as well as basic military procedure and infiltration. But it's not like I'm a super soldier like you. I mean.. well.." He gestured around them."..here I am." He exhaled a long breath as he visibly deflated. "Compared to you I don't have my wits at all. I'm not even confident enough in my ability with a gun so as to keep equipped. And I don't behave rationally. In that regard I'm a complete failure. He paused taking on a neutral expression. "But, again, that's not really a compliment." Edited by Cypriss, Jan 14 2011, 06:04 AM.

"Because you said you've been in the same situation." she explained "I suppose I misunderstood." It was hard to tell if it was an apology or not. It was just the same old expression and monotone. A blank face that revealed nothing, and hard eyes that looked like they could be used as flint. She probably would have made a really good poker player if she cared about gambling. But people like here were averse to gambling. For them, it was all about trying to minimise outside chance, and gambling was inviting chance at all, even if the idea was still the same. |

Oliver leaned back eying her in surprise. The way she phrased it seemed so distant. He wondered if the gap between the two of them was even humanly possible to traverse. She seemed about as far away from him as possible with those words. He clicked his tongue and turned away from her. "Well it's more like I don't need the pressure.. of failing to meet your expectations." He paused hesitating a bit before he walked towards the stairs. He stopped just shy before turning to her. "I know you're coming because it increases Jameson's odds of survival.. And because you need him in order to live like you are right now. I understand that it's a pragmatic thing. I didn't get the wrong idea anywhere along the line that this is for my sake or to help him." He said folding his arms over his chest. Somehow he was making himself annoyed just saying this. The fact a human could be so distance was amazing to him. "But.. You know you DO have a choice right? Every WDA member is going because they chose to. It's not a fight that can be forced onto you by a feeling of obligation. In other words I'm saying if your motives are just something like you feel you have to then don't come." He paused before shifting uncomfortably. "I escaped from them and I never wanted to hold a gun at a person again, i never wanted to think about which places offer the most effective kill shot or how to move around silently. I understand the feeling of being forced into a role you wanted to cast off. I have my reasons but you don't even have those.. All you have is the role, it seems.. It just feels like a bad choice." He said very evenly. Edited by Cypriss, Jan 14 2011, 11:35 AM.

Chetri shook her head "You said that the people here are your family. That because of this place, you found a place to be. That I should wait and see if it could do the same for me." She didn't turn to acknowledge his leaving, merely looking blankly ahead as she had been. "If there really is something for me, then I want to see it myself. For that, this place has to exist. That's why." she told him "I told you, didn't I? To me, every action that brought about results is acceptable." It was as pragmatic an answer as ever, in the same tone, the same voice and expression. The same everything. But also, in a way, it was also different. She was choosing to go not just because it was necessary, but because the necessity was something she'd decided. It made a world of difference, and it was also completely the same. Edited by Katyusha, Jan 14 2011, 12:00 PM.

His eyes shot open as his mouth dropped a bit. He couldn't help but stare in silence at her. At that time she had taken what he'd said to heart so seriously? Not only that, what was with that unexpectedly touching reply? He couldn't help but be caught off guard by such a response. Especially from her. Even if she said those words without any emotion it still had a good feeling to it. He felt a small heat rise to his cheeks. He unconsciously became nervous as he looked down, not really able to show the same calm face as he usually did. What was with this? What was with Crow, Aki, Fuu, Jen, Seth, and even Chetri having such kind things to say? Having such desires to protect this place. And even him? When had it started to be like that? Christmas..? Was it before then? When was the exact moment that he'd begun referring to them as family? When had he first thought of them in that way? He clicked his tongue. "Tch! Don't just say whatever!" He snapped as he shoved his hands in his pockets, dropping his head below his shoulders. "Annoying... You really are annoying." He said looking down at the steps as his face turned slightly red. He'd called this place his family..? He'd said something so cheesy? And even so she remembered those stupid words? He turned frowning at her. "It's a hundred years too early for you to quote me in that robot voice! You want me to kick your ass?!" |

![]() "I see." she noted blankly "Very well, then I will refrain from doing so further." It seemed somewhat strange to her, but if he was uncomfortable with it, then it served no purpose to agitate him for no reason. She closed her eyes again, and looked as if she resumed resting for the mission ahead. Edited by Katyusha, Jan 14 2011, 12:23 PM.
