Nickle had a certain spring in his step today. He couldn't exactly tell why yet, but he'd woken up in a really good mood. Sprung up, opened the curtains and literally shouted good morning to the world, which inevitably woke his cousin up and resulted in her rushing downstairs to pounce on him, which resulted in a short wrestling match. Needless to say Cerium had gotten him pinned quick enough and Nickle had no choice to say uncle... Regardless of that, after her victory she had helped with the breakfast and that at least helped Nickle's pride heal enough to make him feel like he was when he first woke up. It was a day that he didn't really have any plans. The Arcade was taken looked after, there weren't exactly any pressing matters to be taken care of at the Elemancer tower, Chizu hadn't text messaged him about meeting up yet. For the first time in a while, he actually had a free day with nothing to do, or rather, to do what he wanted. Nickle walked down the street, dressed in a somewhat different style of dress than he usually wore. Black All-Stars gripping the pavement, his favourite pair of blue denim jeans hugging his legs, a series of leather bangles scratching his wrist, an orange t-shirt caressing his torso and a black pin-stipe dress shirt flowing behind him as it hung open and unbuttoned. The only thing familiar about his attire, aside from the jeans, was the lightning pendant that was bouncing back and forth on his chest. The streets weren't that crowded, it was still kinda early after all. Nickle was just wandering around Downtown, not sure where he was heading. However he did eventually come nearby the Transporation Center and noticed something new. He stopped, raising an eyebrow, "What? A new joint in Hyakuji?" Smiling shrewdly, Nickle was thankful for the oppurunity to explore. He moved towards the place and opened the doors, entering inside. It looked like one of the places back home in New York. Pool tables, a couple of booths. One of the most American places he'd seen since leaving big apple to come live her in Hyakuji. He stepped further inside, letting the door shut behind him. "Hello? Anyone about?" he said, looking from side to side, his hair falling slightly over his eyes. |

"Yeah, just a minute.." The words came out smooth, but a little rough near the end. Speaking another language wasn't an exact science. There was a disembodied voice from somewhere off to the left. A rustle from an unlit christmas tree in the corner. Tinsel clinging to it, refusing to leave - the odd ornament laying in a small, neat pile near it. Redecorating already - and just beyond it, a piano pushed into the corner. It was removed from it's stand with a small grunt from beyond it, laid on it's side - and finally, you could see the owner. He hadn't shaved in two days, and it showed. He brushed the loose bristles off his casual T and made his way over towards the young man. He was sizing him up immediately, just on the walk over - a walk, during which, he grabbed a small packet from on top of the bar. Tall. Broad shoulders. Skinny, but muscular - callouses on his knuckles. Out of high school - confident air about him. Hmm. Converse. Alright, definitely a taste for the retro - walking shoes. No combat boots - that was nice to see for a change. Refreshing. Leather bracelet - so a bit of a rebel, but not so much you'd notice. Quiet, reserved, warm smile. Well, he seemed like a decent young man so far - a thought that made Ryan's slow smile work it's way into his eyes. He didn't look Japanese - but spoke it fluently. No, he looked American. There was only one way to test that. He stuck his hand out and spoke, in fluent english.. <"Howdy. Welcome to the Wake. Name's Ryan."> Handshake complete. Firm, decent. Two points. Ryan handed the man the small packet, pulled a pen from his pocket and placed it on top. <"We're all set on bartenders and cooks for now. You look like a decent guy, so I won't stick you in back washing dishes. Could use another waiter though. Pay's decent. Normal wage. Hours work around whatever else you have going, we've got enough staff to compensate. Just take a seat here..."> he motioned to the table closest to them. "<...And fill that our, or, you can take it home and bring it back to me.>" Well, damn. For getting the whole situation horribly wrong, he sure was pleasant about it. Ryan smiled, warmly, and turned away, walking back over towards the bar. That'd make four waiters, three cooks and two bartenders, sous chef, head executive...things were rolling along. Quite nicely at that. Hell, if this man decided to join, he'd have a full staff. One last piece to the puzzle. Perfect. He turned around, finally at the bar. "<Can I get you somethin' to drink, lad?>" |

Nickle wasn't too surprised the man before him spoke English as his main language. The accent in his Japanese was a dead give-away even before he started speaking Japanese. Nickle had been the same when he'd first arrived here. Although he looked American, Nickle as actually half and half. Japanese on his father's side. It was the eyes though, those always betrayed his Japanese heritage until someone looked closer, not to mention his height. Nickle didn't speak, but just let himself be spoken to, taking a seat when instructed to and just looking this man Ryan over. He was older than Nickle, be a good couple of years too from the look of it. The place obviously hadn't been open long, not surprising seeing as Nickle hadn't heard any news about it over the past few days. So apparantly they were still hiring. Nickle almost felt bad for Ryan, but he could let him down gently enough. Nickle watched him walk back to the bar and ask if Nickle was thirsty. He really wasn't at the moment. Oh boy was this gonna be a somewhat brutal set of strikes. Nickle responded to Ryan in English. "I'm sorry to tell you this, but I didn't come here to fill in any position. I'm already running my own place in the mall." The Abenobashi Arcade was making enough money for Nickle to actually buy a second house in a month or so if he really wanted to, a bar job wouldn't pull nearly as much money. "So, I'm gonna have to turn that application of yours down. As for the drink, it's not even noon yet, so I'm gonna have to pass on that." Nickle got up and moved over to the bar, a very mixed up look on his face, humour, but mingled in witha very apologetic smile. "Sorry for having giving you false hope, but I just noticed this place being opened and was curious about it." Nickle then sat down on a bar stool, "I'm Nickle Ryuko. I own the Abenbashi Arcade. You transfer here from the states?" |

[[I am diiiiggin this soundtrack, partner.]] Well, shucks. There's a let-down. But there was something amusing about it all - he'd sat down when instructed to. Either submissive or overly, out-of-his-way kind. One of the two, clearly. Smooth, though. Very smooth. With a short grin Ryan poured the man a tall glass of water and set it down in front of him - looking back up and resting his tired hands on the counter. They looked as beat as he looked old. Grifter, drifter, sifter, fighter, dancer? Who knew. Didn't matter. Who was Ryan this week? Just another regular guy, making a living. Not saving the world, keeping his neck out of trouble. Gotta love the simple life. <"Can't really say I'm a Transfer..."> He laughed, letting his eyes go misty. <"But back in my day, when I could run-and-gun? Ten years ago? Yeah, I was a student. School for the Gifted, kinda like Hyakuji. But then I left. Traveled a lot.....aaand eventually, found my way back."> His pleasant, yet determined smile made it clear that it was the end of the conversation - his string of events that brought him to Japan. But, on a lighter note... <"The old man that owned it, Renato - he passed away about a year ago. Went back to Italy. Place closed down in his absence. I, uh.....well, I found it. Started living hear. Decided to restore it. And, two months later, here we are."> He smirked, looking around at his handiwork. The paint, the replaced windows and doors, tables and chairs, pool tables, blah blah blah. He took a slow, deep breath and turned his attention back onto his guest. So this young man owned a place at the mall. Good for him. It took him a moment, but he put his hand out. <"Ryan Columbus Knox. Ex-Meta Human, Painter and professional bootlegger."> He shot out the reference to the wall of liquor behind him......right? Either way, that laugh was filling the room. |

Nickle nodded, listening to the man's story. It sounded like something similar to his in certain ways, only just 10 years ahead maybe. Nickle had always respected Italians, especially considering that Celestial was part Italian. The man's occupation was interesting to say the least and Nickle took another look around the store. It wasn't perfect, but then again what was? "Well I have to say you've been doing a real good job with the place. I've seen this building before and it hasn't looked nearly as good as this I can tell you. Of course I had never seen the inside before." Nickle took a sip of water, placing the glass down and looking at Ryan. "I'm Nickle Ryuko. It's a pleasure to meet you Ryan." Nickle the stood up, looking around the room before turning back to Ryan, folding his arms behind his back, "So I'm guessing you haven't opened yet. What time is this place normally available for business?" |
