All that reading up on martial arts and watching videos of martial artists in action (and not the flashy Jet Li and Donnie Yen stuff) certainly paid off, as her opponent went right over her shoulder and onto the ground - breaking his fall with his hands spared him the worst of the damages, but considering the condition of his arms it was certainly painful to say the least. However, he was no slouch in the skill department either; and even more surprising was how he managed to fight back against the pain, which led Jen to suspect that he could've raised himself off the ground back then under his own power if he wanted to. But that was another thought for another time; whilst still on the ground he swiftly swung about on his left hand like a break-dancer - or a Capoeirista, throwing his leg around her neck. "Scheiße!" Jen managed to exclaim as River's surprise counter brought her down, forcing her from a half-kneeling positing to a lying-down position along with River. As Jen went down however, the lilac-haired girl attempted to seize River's leg in one hand around the ankle, followed by pressing the knuckles of her other hand against the boy's shin and scraping - hard - down the length of his shin bone. Despite being one of the hardest bones in the human skeleton, a good portion of the front of the shins is really just a layer of skin and nerves over bone, and recalling her knowledge on human anatomy, those nerves are a pretty sensitive bunch; which was why getting kicked in the shins hurt so bad. But while striking is one way to cause pain, another method is to rub; applying a sudden change in pressure instead of constant, crushing pressure. That was how the shin scrape attack was invented - to trigger a pain withdrawal reflex by fiercely scraping the heel or side of one's foot against the shin of an attacker. Except that in place of her feet, Jen improvised with her fists, and where else would be the hardest, and most pointy, but the knuckles? |

Not kidding there. It seriously hurts. He managed to take her down, but as retalliation, she released his right arm to take hold of his ankle. He's not sure what she's gonna achieve with that. But her reason became apparent later when he felt an excrutiating pain running down his shin. Really, it's amazing how such simple movement could be so effective. Out of pain and wanted nothing more than to stay (far far far away) away from her reach, he released her from his intended lock, yanking his ankle hard from her grasp before pushing hard on the floor with his hands to make some distance. Not a good decision as another jolt of pain surged through his arm. He rolled and stumbled about, stopping wa~y outside her reach. He took this chance to catch his breath. Which is incredible in its own way. There's not many who can actually force him to take his distance when going against someone like that. In fact, those who can force him to take his distance, as far as he could remember, can be counted with one hand. Well, add one more to the list. In fact, put her at the top. He can tell, her physical prowess isn't exceptional. She has just as much strength as a girl who exercises everyday to stay fit. And that's it. Nothing more than that. Had he wanted to, he could even lift her off the ground with one arm and she couldn't do a thing. Trouble is, she COULD. And HE'S the one having trouble dealing with her. For every single strike he makes she would counter with a move so ridiculously simple it kinda aggravated him. KINDA. Frankly, he's excited to be able to go against someone capable of taking him down. Hahah! This is fun! "I'll give you credit," He said with a wide grin on his face. "You're a real tough cookie. Sweet, but tough," He stood up, ramming his knuckles together twice. "I know this is sudden, but let's make this the final strike. First one to make the other kiss the ground wins," Not that he wanted to end it so quickly like this. He just had to. Anymore and his arm could potentially rip itself apart. "So. Do we have a deal?" Jen grunted as her opponent pushed her, apparently anxious to get out of her reach now, rolling with River's shove and returning to a crouching position. To be honest, she was looking forward to that - she wasn't exactly thrilled to keep up a grappling contest with someone that was three times stronger than a normal human. So far her skills have allowed her to come out on top, but it was only a matter of time before the bugger got lucky and managed to land a hit or put her in an inescapable hold, and given his strength, it would easily mean game set, match. He needed to catch his breath, but then again, so does she. "I'll give you credit," The boy said as he stood up, a wide grin etched on his face. "You're a real tough cookie. Sweet, but tough," Jen smiled and nodded as she rose from her crouching position as River rammed his knuckles together, twice. "I know this is sudden, but let's make this the final strike. First one to make the other kiss the ground wins. So. Do we have a deal?" Jen nodded, indicating her acceptance of River's challenge, as her smile became a dead serious expression as she took up her stance, getting into a horse-legged stance with her right fist extended in front of her and positioned her fist at chest level. While many fighting disciplines around the world have remarkably similar stances, this was one stance that could easily be recognized as "distinctively" unique to the sphere of Chinese martial arts. "You're on!" Jen replied confidently as she fixed River with a focused and confident gaze, her eyes scanning the boy for any possible openings, any exploitable weaknesses - if it all boils down to one move, she would be putting everything she's got into this one punch. |

Still going with counterattacks? Izumi eyed her combat stance as he himself looked for an opening. But then again, it didn't matter much. He's got something in mind. "It should be ladies first," He muttered mockingly, crouching on the spot. He shifted his feet around to find the spot with the most traction between the floor and his shoes. Once he found it, he pushed hard, charging straight at the amethyst-haired girl with no remorse, his fist pulled back for a powerful blow. Three meters left. Two meters. One met-...er..? As impossible as it may seem, everyone around him will find out that he had just ran up into the air. Right. Ran up into the AIR. Like he was scaling a stair or something. Wanna know the mystery behind his literal air walk? While he was two meters away from her, he charged up his magical power and conjured two dimly glowing yellowish-brown small horizontal one-foot long circular Physical Barrier in front of him. One at knee height and one at waist height. It was fairly fragile, and it broke the moment he stepped and pushed on it, but it was enough to propel him into the air. He ran up both of them, then used the increased height advantage to jump over her. If everything goes well, he would land right behind her again. Once that done, he would turn around, grab her by the waist and perform the famous wrestling move called the German Suplex. |

"It should be ladies first," Jen's opponent muttered mockingly as he crouched and shifted his feet, while Jen took particular note of his stance - a crouching stance, was he trying to find traction? A low stance like his was known for being able to provide a powerful forward thrust, like a sprinter before a dash, or in a face-off between Sumo wrestlers. Let's do this then... Jen's eyebrows furrowed in concentration as she changed the shape of her fist slightly. Instead of her balling her fist tightly, the first two knuckles of her fingers pointing outwards in front of the others. Known amongst Chinese martial arts practicioners as the "Phoenix Eye Punch". By striking with only the top two knuckles, the idea is to minimize the contact area at the point of impact, giving the punch the ability to pierce like the point of spear. Jen's eyes narrowed as Seth made his charge, the adrenaline rush causing her to perceive the boy's movements in slow motion as the lilac-haired girl pulled her fist back and took a step back - they were virtually relying on the same techniques. The idea was simple, to use the borrowed strength between the ground and her lower body to throw herself forward, and coupled with a well-timed kiai shout to use the expansion of her ribcage to further magnify the power of her Phoenix Eye Punch, aimed for the solar plexus of her opponent. "Just bring it... I'll meet your attack head on!" Jen whispered as she took her stance. And that was when he flew, not really flying, but walking on air - like something out of a Chinese martial arts fantasy flick, sailing right over her head. "Hey, I signed up for a kung-fu flick, not a wuxia one!" Jen exclaimed. No matter how one looked at it, Chen Zhen is not taking Nameless in a fight in any shape or form! Trying to get behind me!? Jen thought, before turning about the waist and looking to slam her elbow into the side of River's head. |

Hah! He got through! Of course, he only got through because it caught her completely by surprise. Told you, didn't I? Surprise attack always seem to have greater effect. Kinda. Well, this isn't actually an attack, but it sure was a surprise. ... Was she even surprised? Well, anyway, time to get back to business. And back to the plan. Once he got his feet planted on the floor right behind her he began to rush forward with his plan. Grab her and perform the dreaded German Suplex. With his triple the normal human strength he should probably be able to lift her easy-peasy. That is, if she didn't react fast enough to throw an elbow strike right at his face. And damn, she reacted fast. One moment she was completely open, next moment he's got a solid piece of bone heading right to his temple. One hit from that is capable of knocking even the biggest of person out. Izumi may be three times stronger than any normal person, but he's still a normal person. He's not even the biggest of person. Not to mention, to the temple, man! That's like, one of the many weak spot of the human body? One foot. His opponent's elbow is one foot to his head. Five inches. Three inches. His defeat is imminent- KAAANG!!! In the very split second that could have decided his defeat, a yellowish-brown circular glyph appeared out of nowhere, acting as a solid wall blocking the progress of her elbow from colliding with his face. It was half a quarter of an inch away from his face. A very very very near miss. Her attack was incredibly fast, and his brain could only process the thought of conjuring the physical barrier mere microseconds faster. That's not good. That's bad. It means he's slow. And she's fast. Had she been even faster, he'd be lying on the ground, knocked out cold. But no, he survived. He missed the knock out bell by a hair width. A bead of sweat dripped down his cheek. The first split second he stared at her blocked hand, the next split second he cracked a grin, and in the last split second, he broke into action. It's not a German Suplex but it's as good as one. He grabbed her elbow with one hand and her wrist with another, in an attempt to twist her arm around her back and push it upwards, or to simplify, a move known as the hammerlock. To really make sure he's the one dominating, he did a sweeping kick in an attempt to... uh... sweep her off the ground and, uh... get her off her feet and to the ground? |

"Was ist das!?" Jen exclaimed - one moment she was expecting her elbow to connect with her opponent's temple, and the next, she found her counterattack stopped by some mysterious force. It was as if there was a barrier preventing her elbow strike from making contact. It was certainly starting to look suspicious, and Jen was getting a feeling that superhuman strength wasn't all there was to her opponent's abilities. And that was when he moved, swiftly capitalizing on the situation as Jen felt her arm being seized, twisted behind her back and pushed upwards - an obvious pain compliance hold; Jen realized that he was going in for a hammer lock. The fact that it was painful - like any submission maneuver, made it difficult to escape from. However, it was not inescapable. Jen had after all, seen it being done in videos. The lilac-haired girl let out a grunt as she twisted her body such that her arm would therefore get twisted back into its natural position. Of course, she wasn't counting on the leg sweep to follow-up his hammer lock attempt, but if it were her executing such a move, she would have no doubt done that in order to prevent the escape maneuver she'd used earlier - so she didn't get put into a painful submission hold, but the sweep still caught her unawares and knocked her feet out from right underneath her, sending Jen to the ground. "I think you can release my arm," Jen replied from her position on the ground. "I don't know how you managed to block an elbow strike using your face, but something tells me superhuman strength isn't all there is to your abilities." |

"I wonder what that something is..." He said teasingly, letting go of her and stepping away smiling. "Told you, didn't I? I don't hold back just because you're a girl," He pointed at himself with his thumb, thrilled by his triumph. Does it matter if his opponent is a girl? Does it matter if his opponent is smaller than himself? Does anything really matter if they can push him like that? No. He values his opponents equally. The only thing that truly makes a difference is whether they fight back or not. She fought back. Valiantly. There's no reason not to like anyone with the bravado to fight back. "Hahah! I suppose this is my victory, eh?" He exclaimed, turning around to face her with his hands on his sides, giving a genuine grin completely free of any malevolent aura. A smile that signifies the happiness of someone who had just accomplished something in a field of his liking. |

"I wonder what that something is..." Jen could tell from the boy's tone that he was teasing her. There was something she wanted to know, and he's keeping it from her as he let go of her arm and stepped away, wearing a smile upon his face. "Told you, didn't I? I don't hold back just because you're a girl," he said as he pointed at himself with his thumb, clearly savoring his victory. Normally, beating a girl wasn't something for a guy to be pleased about. "Glad you didn't," Jen replied, a smile of her own forming on her face as she got up onto her feet. It wouldn't be difficult for her to tell if he had been holding back, and she'd have to make him suffer if he'd been foolish enough to hold back. "You're pretty pro' yourself, too." "Hahah! I suppose this is my victory, eh?" He exulted as he turned around to face Jen with a sincere grin. "Fair and square, no less!" Jen chorused cheerfully as she picked up her jacket and sweater from the bleachers, swinging the articles of clothing around a few times before draping them over her shoulders. "You know, I really want to know the name of the guy who just bested me," Jen continued, eying River with a sunny smile. This little sparring session had been a pretty rewarding experience, and one thing she wasn't about to walk away without was knowing her worthy opponent's name. "The name's Jennifer Chase, but you can call me Jen," The lilac-haired girl pointed to herself with a wide grin. "So, how may I address this champion here?" she asked, still grinning broadly. |

"Izumi River, also known as THE RAGING RIVER!!!" He said at the top of his lung, being a little bit too excited over his little victory. Right, right, you can stop now. "Goodness, you're quite a fighter yourself," He said, letting his arm go limp. He didn't feel it too much during the fight. You know, adrenalin rush and all. But once everything is over, the tearing and ripping sensation in his arm returned to its full strength. Apparently straining and stressing his arm throughout the entire fight amplified the damage done initially by his gravity training from before. It was a wonder that he managed to move with such agility during the fight. Maybe he cheated. ...Naaaah. That said... "Oh... Somehow, why do I feel like I've forgotten something...?" He said in mock thinking, pursing his lips sporting a look full of concentration. "Let's see... let's see... Oh yeah!" He would snap his fingers, but he can't seem to move his arms. So he settled with the look of sudden enlightenment. Turning his attention back to her with an ominous stare and grin, he said slowly as though to remind her of something terrible from the past. "Now... if I remember... we made a deal before the fight, didn't we?" He leaned closer, looking more and more menacing with each centimeter covered. "Now... let's see. What should I make you do..." He smiled innocently, with it a terrible premonition.... "Could you give my arm a massage? You know, that 'Dat Je Bo' thing you said earlier. I could use some of it..." He said, still smiling, but all sense of maliciousness from before had mysteriously disappeared off somewhere. Maybe he'll take a break from tormenting people for now. |

"Izumi River, also known as THE RAGING RIVER!!!" Her opponent proclaimed loudly - quite the large ham he is, Jen gave him that. It was quite a fight and both of them really went the distance, but was it really worth being this elated over it? Whatever. Jen wasn't about to spoil River's moment of glory, instead letting him exult all he wanted. "Goodness, you're quite a fighter yourself," he commented, finally cooling down. "I don't love combat, but the art of fighting is a field of knowledge that interests me," Jen replied with a knowing smile. "Oh... Somehow, why do I feel like I've forgotten something...?" River commented, his lips pursing as he appeared full of thought. "Let's see... let's see... Oh yeah!" River's expression changed, as though he suddenly gained an epiphany, before an ominous grin formed on his face as he stared at Jen. "Now... if I remember... we made a deal before the fight, didn't we?" "Of course I remembered our deal... so, what do you want?" Jen wondered. "Now... let's see. What should I make you do..." He contemplated with an innocent smile. "Could you give my arm a massage? You know, that 'Dat Je Bo' thing you said earlier. I could use some of it..." Jen chuckled at the utter mispronunciation made by River. "Dit da jow, the Chinese name for it literally means falls and hits wine - and as the name suggests, it's good for treating aches and pains from falling and getting hit," Jen replied as she removed from a pocket in her jacket a small vial filled with a dark brown liquid. Removing the cap of the container, a strong aroma like that of wine mixed with assorted herbs wafted from it. "All right River, roll up those sleeves and gimme your arms," Jen gestured for River to stretch out his arms as she poured some of that aromatic tincture over her left hand. |

"You carry that around?" He asked, slightly bemused. Well, it's not usual for someone to carry a bottle of, uh... massage cream, around wherever they go. But then again, it's really like someone who brings a multi-tool everywhere they go, just in case they need to use it. And he supposed this is another one of those just-in-case situation. Although he's not sure whether to call it convenient or not, as he rolled up his sleeves (with slight difficulty). Guess it could be called convenient, he thought as he plopped himself on the floor cross-legged (what, do you massage someone's arm while standing up?), holding up his left arm with a look of slight apprehensiveness, half-expecting her to rough up his arm because of her loss earlier. "Where do you learn all these stuff anyway? Those moves from before don't look like something done by someone who learns by watching videos..." Ironic. |

"You carry that around?" River queried, clearly bemused at Jen's crazy preparedness as he rolled up his sleeves and sat cross-legged on the floor of the basketball court. "It never hurts to be prepared," Jen replied knowingly as she got down on one knee. "Now, don't say I didn't warn you - but it's gonna hurt a bit - and quite a bit for your case given the extent of your injury. But it'll probably leave your arm feeling better once I'm done." Drenching her hand in that herbal-smelling tincture, Jen proceeded to take hold of River's arm in one hand and massage down the length of his arm with her other hand - the one that was drenched in liniment, alternating between rubbing linearly up and down the length of the arm, and a circular rubbing motion. No doubt, rubbing this vigorously on an arm with aching muscles would hurt like hell - but the concoction would feel strangely cool to the touch, which served to alleviate some of the pain, while at the same time comfortingly warm. "This effect is due to a mixture of herbs that, in traditional Chinese medicine are 'cool' and 'warm' in nature. The cooling herbs act like ice, serving to reduce swelling and inflammation, while the warming herbs kill pain, promote circulation and break up accumulations of stagnant blood and fluids," Jen explained the feeling that River was experiencing in his arms. After several minutes, Jen patted River's arm to indicate she was done, before repeating the process with his other arm. "There you go!" Jen commented cheerfully as she patted the other arm after she was done massaging it. "And as an added bonus... take this with you," Jen said as she capped the bottle of herbal liniment and passed it to river. "Just repeat what I did yo your arms twice a day, and you'll feel a lot better!" "Where do you learn all these stuff anyway? Those moves from before don't look like something done by someone who learns by watching videos..." "Truth is... I did learn them by watching videos!" Jen replied, nodding earnestly. "And also by reading up extensively on martial arts and practicing them with other experts... you can say I have a thing for memorizing things in great detail." Jen smiled as she stood up, folding her arms across her chest. And when it comes to physical-related skills, it was like she could simply "download" whatever knowledge she gained from books and videos directly into her muscle memory, allowing her to use martial arts moves and practice fine motor skills and other things that require expert timing and coordination as though she had spent years practicing them. |

He yelped loudly as Jennifer (in his opinion) roughly manhandled his arm, twisting and pulling the nerves and muscle causing excruciating amount of pain surging through his shoulders. He thought it was over when she withdrew her hand from one of his arm, but the entire painful process was repeated as she (in his opinion) ravaged his other arm as well. It only lasted for a few minutes, but for him it felt like hours. It's like when someone is waiting for something unpleasant to pass, time seemed to move waaaaaaaaaaaaay slower than it's supposed to. He was left with a dully stinging arm, but with a bit of the comforting warm sensation she claimed the herb is supposed to give. Not saying it out loud, but he's pretty relieved the session had ended. He flexed his fingers a bit, trying to get some feelings back into his arm. Man, that was definitely hell. And he's supposed to do this everyday? "Not a chance," He said, smirking. Even so, he accepted the bottle of liniment, eying it slightly before, in one swift motion, tossing it into the air and pulled back his hood, letting the vial fall into the makeshift pocket. "I suppose you must be a genius to be able to do all that," He commented on her claim to have super-memory, hiding his silver hair back under his hood. ... Meh. No reason to stay around anymore now is there? Turning around making his way to the exit, without turning back he said, "Don't let me hold back your daily training then," And as such, the hooded boy left the basketball court, with a satisfied smirk on his face. ... Oh yea. "Maybe one of these days we can spar again, eh?" |
