"Haah... haah..." His voice shook, his lips trembled. "One more... just one mo... more..." With great effort, he attempted to do just one more push-up- CRACK. "Shit!" The brightly glowing red lines that circled him disappeared, lifting the 8G gravity prison effect from himself. His arms gave away, letting him fall flat to the ground. He panted heavily, his arms sore and stinging, breathing erratically and sweating from the internal heat generated from the core of his body, even though it's winter. There was a deep palm-sized dent on the floor where his hands had been. And from the looks of it, the area that had been covered by the circle from earlier was noticably... lower in level. Like there's a two centimeter deep ditch three meters in diameter on the floor of the basketball court. Why would Izumi River choose the basketball court to do push-ups is anyones guess. Even more peculiar is that he never bothered to take his jacket off. His hood was still on, covering up his silvery white head, making him look even more shady than usual. Not that he's always shady, but... ... meh. Moving on. As justification, he had been training like this, subjecting himself to gravitational fields greater than the earth, increasing his physical tolerance to inhuman level, yes. He had been doing this since he was a kid. Since the moment he discovered his ability. Cold winter and a new environment are no excuse for him to stop. ... Maybe a little rest, Izumi thought as he turned over, lying on his back instead, watching the snow covered windows high above. Haah~. ... He kinda missed beating people up. His victim count had decreased dramatically since he came here. Something must be wrong with his brain. Edited by Fin, Dec 26 2010, 10:18 PM.

Winter was quiet indeed, as Jen took what was a lonely jog around the athletic field of the campus. Even though it was broad daylight a gloom hung around her surroundings as the sun's rays shone feebly through the cloud cover of the overcast sky. Not a cold weather person due to her upbringing, Jen was clearly not a fan of winter - what with having to be bundled up in several layers of clothing and all. But hot or cold, nothing was stopping the purple-haired girl from sticking to her schedule. Jen breathed heavily as she ran, her breath coming out in a foggy cloud as the moisture in her breath condensed in the cold winter air. At least one good thing about a good workout routine was that it helped her feel warm in the biting cold. "One more lap," Jen thought as she slowed down to a brisk walk as she neared the basketball court. "Just one more lap..." Once her workout routine was done, it would be time to head over to the school library for some more reading. That was when she noticed someone. Someone who wasn't here when she'd jogged past the basketball court during the previous lap. A guy, she presumed, lying face-up in the basketball court, dressed in a hoodie. "Hey," Jen called out to him as she stepped towards where he lay. "Shouldn't you be lying somewhere else? I mean, what if people wanted to play basketball and you're just lying there in the middle of the basketball court?" The purple-haired girl asked as she was now standing over him, peering down at his face that was hidden underneath his hood. |

And that was when HE noticed that there was someone else here as well, as a sharp call echoed through the basketball court. Which, given the fact that there's no one else around him, must be directed to him. He didn't have much chance to react though, as a face of an amethyst-haired girl wrapped in bundles of clothes loomed over his own. "I can lie around anywhere I want," He replied in an expressionless face, slightly annoyed by her nosy attitude. "There's no one here. Besides, who in their right mind would play basketball in the middle of winter?" Like he had any right to actually say that. "Just for clarification, what are you doing her anyway?" Doesn't seem right for someone to just decide to take a walk around the athletic field mid-winter, now does it? ... Right...? That said, he stood up. Or at least... tried to. He tried to push himself off the floor by pushing himself up. But the moment he did that, a sharp pain ran through his over-strained arms, causing it to crumple and him falling flat on his back with a yelp. Again. Having to do push-up with five times his own body weight was by no means a walk in the park. Obviously. "Augh..." He groaned, having hit his head on the floor hard. Maybe it's a bit too early to start on 8G. ... This is humiliating. "Oi... A little help here...?" Izumi asked the girl's help to stand, seeing as, for the moment, he couldn't even sit up by himself. Or rather, he doesn't want to try. |

"I can lie around anywhere I want," The boy replied plainly. "There's no one here. Besides, who in their right mind would play basketball in the middle of winter?" "Hey, I was just giving a helpful statement," Jen shrugged in retort. "I mean, if you simply lay down in the middle of somewhere you could be prone to having someone accidentally step on you... assuming they aren't pissed off about having you get in their way, that is," the purple-haired girl continued. Okay, so she was probably being a little bit of a busybody, but seeing someone lie down in the middle of a basketball court didn't strike her as something normal... even when amongst supernaturally-gifted individuals. Okay, less of normal, but more of improbable behavior. "Just for clarification, what are you doing here anyway?" The boy asked. "Going through my workout routine," Jen replied a matter-of-factly. "Hot or cold, rain or shine... I stick to my schedule." Jen watched as he tried to get up, attempting to push himself off the floor with his hands, only to fail rather spectacularly and fall back down. "Oi... A little help here...?" "Man, just what have you been doing to your arms anyway?" Jen asked as she bent down, taking hold of the boy's hands. "C'mon, up!" The amethyst-haired girl said as she straightened up, trying to pull River back to his feet. |

"AAUGH!!! The arm!! Don't touch the arm!!!" He yelled painfully as she yanked hard on his arm trying to pull him to his feet. The moment she pulled it was like having every tissue in his arm ripped apart like some paper shoved down a paper shredder. Or at least, close to that. He got to his feet, but not without suffering, as he stood there bow-legged from the extreme pain. "Urgh... I'll get back at you for that later..." He said, glowering darkly at her. Not something normally done to someone who just helped you out of pure goodwill. He flexed his fingers slightly to regain the feelings of his arm. Okay... so the damage was a bit worse than he thought. The sore's gonna last till next year. But no. Not something he couldn't handle. ... Right. "That's quite something. Hard to find someone who keeps training even in winter." He grunted, stretching his arm, making some pretty loud cracking noise. Damn, it feels so stiff. He seriouly need to move around more. "Can you fight?" Woah. That came out of nowhere. |

"AAUGH!!! The arm!! Don't touch the arm!!!" The boy yelled, clearly in pain as Jen pulled him back to his feet. The way he was screaming sounded almost like he had broken something, except that Jen had read enough on human anatomy to know from a glance that nothing (major) was broken. Probably tore a muscle... or maybe a tendon, perhaps a strained ligament. But no broken bones as far as the lilac-haired girl was considered. "Urgh... I'll get back at you for that later..." The boy swore revenge as he stood bow-legged, flexing his fingers to regain the feeling in his hands. "Pfft, it's not like you broke any bones, lady," Jen commented as River glowered at her darkly, responding to the boy's death glare with rolled eyes and a pouty mouth. "I recommend massaging those arms of yours with some bruise liniment twice a day every day if you want the pain to go away any quicker... dit da jow (跌打酒) works wonders in that regard, I'll say." "That's quite something. Hard to find someone who keeps training even in winter." The boy commented as he stretched his arms, his joints making an audible popping noise. Jen nodded and smiled at his remark. "Perfection of mind and body, that's what I seek," Jen replied in earnest. "Can you fight?" Now that was random. Jen furrowed a brow at the boy's question, before resting her hands on her hips. "I've practiced in a few forms of martial arts before," Jen replied, pacing in circles slowly. "I've trained in Wing Chun, as well as practiced regularly in Krav Maga, also dabbled in Sambo, Karate and Muay Thai... kinda lost track of how many styles I've exposed myself to..." the lilac-haired girl commented as she counted her fingers. "So, why'd you wanna know?" she wonder aloud. |

"Riiight... I'll take your advice on that. Dat Je Bo... Whatever that thing is..." He said, clearly not understanding a thing of what she just adviced about, other than the twice-a-day part. Heck, he doesn't even remember what it was that he was supposed to twice-a-day. Was it bathing...? His brows raised higher and higher in surprise and amazement the girl began recounting every single combat style she has ever delved into. Is this girl serious? For a high school student to claim to know 'lost count' amount of fighting style is just... unreal. From raised, his brows furrowed. No way. Dedication is a certainty in this girl. She did went out of her way to keep to her training routine even in winter. But... Uncertainty, curiosity, and generally riled up (for some reason), he turned to face her with a grin on his face. If she's telling the truth, then, "Okay then. I'll get straight to the point," He raised his hand up high, then brought it down, pointing impressively at her with his index finger, Phoenix Wright style. Would have been complete if there's a matching theme song. "SPAR WITH ME!" Edited by Fin, Dec 28 2010, 10:11 AM.

Jen cocked her head slightly as River faced her with a grin, almost certain that he had some machinations going on in his head. "Okay then. I'll get straight to the point," the boy said as he raised his hand dramatically before leveling it at her, pointing at Jen in a Phoenix Wright impression. "SPAR WITH ME!" Jen's eyes grew wide, clearly taken aback by the suddenness of his request. "You... you're serious about that?" Jen asked, her surprised expression turning into a wry smile. "Just don't be whining about your sore muscles. I'm not gonna go easy on you because of that," the lilac-haired girl commented as she unzipped and peeled off the jacket she was wearing, followed by the sweater underneath to reveal a white T-shirt. After all, the boy asked for a sparring session, and it would be a dishonor on her part to not show him just what she was capable of. Producing a length of ribbon from her pants' pockets, Jen bunched up her hair into a high ponytail before tying it in place. The purple-haired girl went through some warm-up exercises, stretching her arms and legs and pivoting about the waist; feeling a lot more at ease without being kept under so many layers - no doubt, it was going to get warm later, and she needed freedom of movement. Interlacing her fingers together, Jen stretched her arms, making a popping noise with her joints before raising her fists, putting one foot forward and leaning in slightly. "So, are you ready?" she asked. |

"Well of course I am. I wouldn't be asking you if I'm not," He spun his arms around like a windmill. It still sores a slight bit, but it's nothing he couldn't handle. "You be serious yourself too. I'm not going to hold back just because you're a girl," He did his own warm-up exercises by doing a little air-boxing and kneeing. He wanted to say that his sore muscle is the perfect handicap for someone going against a person three times stronger than any normal human, but he thought doing so would destroy the pride of his opponent. "Be warned. Just because I'm like this doesn't mean I can't deal some serious blow," He cracked his knuckle, rejoicing the popping sound coming from his hands. "I'm generally three times stronger than any normal human. So unless you take yourself up a few notches, it's possible for you to end up in the infirmary for the rest of the semester," And how perfectly the warning coincides with his personality too. He doesn't, and won't hold back. But somehow he felt like something was missing from their duel. What was it... ~! His for-once innocent smirk turned to his usual malevolent smirk. His sadistic and pranking nature slowly materializes itself in the form of verbal offer. "But you know, a simple spar like this isn't really interesting. How about we put a little stake to it, eh?" He stroked his chin, pacing around in mock thinking, but in truth he already had something in mind. "Let's see... How's this. The loser has to do everything and anything the winner asks for, for the whole day," He stopped in his track, facing her with his more natural evil smirk plastered on his face. "So, how about it?" Even though he offered a chance to decline, he still took a fighting stance, turning sideways and lifting his left fist up in front of him and bringing his right hand up to his chest. For some reason, his legs kept their casual stance. "But then again, even if you refuse, we're still going to fight," |

"Hey, your positivity is absolutely uplifting~!" Jen complimented as River spun his arms around. "And don't worry about me!" the lilac-haired girl added as she did some jogging on the spot while the boy continued to warm up with some shadow-boxing, throwing punches and knee strikes into the air. "Just so you know, the strong ones may not always win, and the weak ones may not always lose!" Jen remarked confidently at River's statement about being three times stronger than a normal human. "But you know, a simple spar like this isn't really interesting. How about we put a little stake to it, eh?" Jen raised an eyebrow as the boy gave her a sinister-looking smirk which indicated less-than-kind intentions. "Let's see... How's this. The loser has to do everything and anything the winner asks for, for the whole day, So, how about it?" A grin crossed Jen's face at his offer. A stake, is it? Nothing to make things more exciting! The purple-haired girl gave the boy a thumbs up. "Challenge... accepted! Man, this is getting more exciting by the minute!" She replied as he took up his stance. "All right then, let's get this party started shall we?" Jen said with much gusto as she took up her fighting stance, with one hand placed forward and another kept close to her body while she bounced up and down in a fighting stance reminiscent of Bruce Lee's famous pose. |

She's adamant on getting the counter-attack, huh? Well, if that's what she wants then that's what she's gonna get. "Okay then. Don't back out after this!" He slackened his fingers slightly, intending to go with the open palm style. "I'll have you know, counters aren't always effective," From the slacking stance he had earlier, he lowered his body down to a horse horse stance, digging his feet into the wall of the ditch made earlier by his gravity magic. A start-up sequence that only lasted for a split second before he charged straight at the amethyst-haired girl with running speed twice that of a normal human. Such a feat was easy for someone who trains everyday with three times his own weight on his back. Or legs. Or... whatever. In a split second he had covered the distance between the two of them. He got near her, he's right next to her, he... passed her? That's right, he passed her left side, and went around positioning himself right behind her. At the same time he placed his right palm over her head. AT THE SAME TIME AGAIN, he lowered his body while keeping his palm over her face, using his body to keep her knees in place while he applied force (x2) to his hands, attempting to shove her down to the ground. He was fast, Jen would give him that - it was true that this boy possesses three times human strength, and with his powerful legs he easily covered the gap. A forward charge - he was fast, but not that fast like flash stepping fast which was something she'd handled before. And for someone who knows what's coming for her, there are just so many ways a berserker charge could go wrong. Jen raised her hands, preparing to counter with a strike to the solar plexus - for someone this strong, her best bet would be to hit pressure points and exploit other vulnerabilities. And then he just... passed her? Now that wasn't something she was expecting. It would seem that he wasn't merely the brainless muscle type, quite a devious move, she'd give him that, but she'd have to save the compliments for later and first focus on how to get out of the restraining move he was applying to her, by keeping a hand on her head and forcing downwards to keep her knees in place. Now that was a bother - if it were any other grab from behind, Jen could easily throw them off by leveraging on the strength of her lower body. But by keeping her legs rooted in place, her opponent had denied her of the ability to utilize leveraging to her advantage. Time to use a little Jujutsu, acting on instinct Jen reached out in an attempt to take hold of the hand over her face, gripping River's wrist with her left hand, while her right hand seized his pinky finger, followed by pushing upwards, hyperextending the digit a little past its normal range of motion, not enough to dislocate the join should her counter-grappling attempt succeed, but able to cause a cause a good deal of pain. Sure, he might have three times the strength of a normal human, but the ability to utilize one's strength comes from a synergy effort from using multiple muscle groups and leveraging principles, just like how it's easier to lift off a heavy load that's resting on a lever by pushing down further away from the fulcrum, and more effort is needed the closer one gets to the fulcrum. |

Don't you sometimes wonder how such a simple move can be so effective as an attack? Over-bending the pinky is one such mystery. Well, not really that much of a mystery but it is pretty interesting. ... Okay, so it's just some finger bending. But still... interesting, but not interesting... ...moving on. Having his finger being bent waaaay beyond it's natural range of motion caused him to yelp slightly as a sharp jolt of pain surged through his hand, forcing him to hold back from pushing his opponent down. Even if he is three times stronger than a normal human, he still has the same constitution as a normal human. As in, flesh and pain nerves and tendons and bones and all. Even a muscleman would feel the pain if he had his pinky stretched beyond its limit. Try doing it yourself. Bend your pinky till it touches the back of your hand. ... No, wait. I was just kidding. You could break it like that. Back to the situation at hand, now that his take-down technique has been 'spectacularly' taken down by a simple finger hold, he needs to improvise. Quick. Else his opponent will take advantage of his hesitation and lock him in some unbreakable grappling technique forcing him to forfeit and lose the match and be her slave for the rest of the day. ... No way. Taking advantage of his opponents attention to his hand, he slipped a knee strike at the back of her knee, aiming to topple her down using the element of surprise. It's kinda like an ambush technique. When they're not expecting it, the damage done will usually be greater. |

Now that was strangely satisfying... Jen thought as her Jujutsu-derived technique worked surprisingly well against the titan, the yelp of pain was all the reassurance the lilac-haired girl needed to know that it was effective. She'd just need to keep up the hold, and all that was needed was for him to take the pressure off her and she'd be able to throw him over her shoulder. However, a strong body brings along with it a strong will, and then Jen felt her knee buckle - he must've delivered a strike to the back of her leg, behind the knee joint at where the calf muscle was located, sure, it was a pretty effective takedown maneuver, although had he actually aimed higher between the hip joint and calf he'd have struck her peroneal nerve, and such a blow would not only bring her down, it would hamper her mobility due to the pain it could cause. Jen had learned firsthand from friends practicing Muay Thai on how devastating a blow like that could be after a friend of hers was limping for weeks after taking a round kick to the peroneal nerve by his sparring partner during a Muay Thai practice. However, as Jen's knees buckled she realized that it was in fact the window of opportunity she was waiting for, at the instant she felt her knee buckle, Jen changed her hold, attempting to grab his right arm with both hands near the wrist - the plan was simple, whilst falling down onto her knees she would attempt to use the act of falling, followed by throwing her weight forward by the waist - using her own back as a fulcrum, and River's arm as a lever, perhaps that might be all the leverage she needed to get him over her shoulder, and back in front of her! |

His eyes widened with shock, wholly surprised by her display of skills as she took advantage of her opponent's attack, grasped and pulled hard on his right forearm, used her lowered figure as a fulcrum to literally (and easily) lift him off his feet, flinging his abnormally heavy body over her shoulder. That's not all, though. The moment she wrenched his arm, a jolt of pain surged through his shoulder, causing him to be unable to perform a counter to the throw. Not that he would be able to, anyway. His body flew through the air, the hard crash to the ground almost inevitable. As his body rapidly approaches the floor, his left arm shot out, hitting the ground before his body does, breaking the fall. But it's not without cost, as the impact sent massive surge of pain through his left arm, eliciting a gasp of pain from him. He refused to go down, however. In the half-one-arm-stand position, he exerted force on his legs, and using his left arm as the point of axis, spun himself around and throwing his left leg around the neck of his opponent. If she didn't have yet another trick up her sleeve, the combined force of momentum, leg strength and gravity should be enough to take her down with him. Sure, both of them will be down, but at least he'll have her in a lock. Hopefully. |
