"Well if you're paying, sure." she nodded, "By the way, who were you talking while you over there?" It was abit unusual, but he didn't seem to have a radio, nor was he talking to anyone in particular. It seemed suspicious, but he wasn't particularly setting off any red flags, and she'd long since learned to trust her instincts. Perhaps one of those people who muttered to themselves out loud. One thing was clear though - her hearing was excellent. |

"..okay then.." He said with his composure fully restored. He was finally steering this shit back into his court. He'd got his plan set and now he was just going to calmly execute it without running into anymore trouble.. Wait, talking to himself? He'd been talking to Thanatos but of course she didn't know it due to him being an imp. More importantly though was the ridiculous distance from which she had noticed this. He'd been well out of earshot when he was talking to Thanatos and this was an active exterior location. There shouldn't have been any chance of being overheard. Wait, if she'd overheard had she heard the plan too? He'd have to be on guard. As if this couldn't get worse he was dealing with super-human safe cracker. What a pain in the ass. "I was talking to myself." He said in a calm manner, not really dwelling on any more of an intricate explanation. It was reasonable and not the sort of thing most would question. Either way he lead her towards the nearest eating establishments eager to be free of this situation. "You can pick the place." He said, figuring she'd pick some ridiculously expensive place to try and take advantage of his 'generosity'. |

"Oh, ok. Well if it's just a quick meal, then we could just eat over there." she pointed towards a fast food outlet. It was quick enough, relatively cheap, and fairly anonymous. since most service people for such places could hardly care to remember your meal, much less any faces. Plus it was the norm for people around here anyway, and thus allowed easily disappearing into a crowd. |

".That.. place...?" He said pointing to it with a listless expression. Fast food... Pay-before-you-eat fast food.. She had completely beaten him. He exhaled with a freshly defeated expression. If it were possible for him to crumble into dust and drift away on the breeze he would. She had defeated him at every juncture and now was even draining his financial status. He sighed walking to it.. ~~~~~ Deus rather enjoyed the burger and fries and the feeling of actually being full ALMOST overrode the anger at her. He hadn't eaten this well in a while which was sad to admit considering it was greasy burgers and fries and not his typical chef prepared gourmet dinners but for now he'd just be happy with what he had. He'd never really understood how good shitty food could taste. Truly, hunger WAS the greatest spice. finished with his food in half a minute flat he crumpled his trash tossing it expertly into the trashcan from his seat. He then leaned back eying the woman across from him. By now all pretenses were lost. His expression was neutral and bland with just a slight furrow of the brow to show his irritation. Finally his true expression had broken through. He was simply too exhausted from faking it. "So where do you work anyhow?" He said, making the logical leap she was running errands for work. |

"Nowhere really." she replied, finishing up her own meal. She'd eaten at a normal pace for once, so as to not attract attention. "What makes you think I have a job?" It wasn't exactly a normal question to ask a student, unless everyone in this town had a side job. She'd have to look into that, she thought, and set it aside for now and examined the person she was with. He was an unusual one, she saw. His demeanor was rather different from before, and seemed exasperated rather than his previous attempts at being charming. He could act, that much was clear, but it didn't appear to be formal training. More of something picked up from experience. Well, the world had all sorts. |

Deus found her reply a bit curious. Not denial or acceptance more interested in why he was asking it than the question. You could call that 'guarded'. Not that Deus particularly cared. Still, this person whom was so average and yet immune to his every effort was somewhat interesting. She at least defied expectation. And for a boring city full of boring people that talent was a blessing. "Well this town is pretty student-work friendly. There's that crazy scooby doo detective agency and that bookstore as well as the maid cafe and cosplay manga shop.. Lots of students work around here. Life in Japan isn't cheap, after all.." He said idly, he himself preferred odd jobs as company mascots or handing things out. Small immediate pay without attachments or much chance of being recognized.. He had to keep up the 'Wealthy' appearance. "It must be so hard for the common man.." He said with a smirk as if to say that he pitied them from his high ground. His expensive clothes and meticulous grooming sold the story. He leaned back eying the girl before leaning forward and resting his arms on the table. "But mostly i was referring to that big box you were carrying around.. i didn't figure that was recreational.." |

"Oh well I guess I'm not used to this place then." Chetri acknowledged. It was also quite true, but real deceit was less about lying and more working around what truth you didn't mind giving away. "Anyway the boxes were just errands for someone. It was just hats really so it wasn't heavy at all." she said, and took another sip of her soda "So, I'm guessing if your calling people 'common man', then you're an uncommon one?" |

"I see.." Deus said with a smirk. He was pretty good at telling when someone was working an angle. He wasn't even sure what she had to hide but everything just seemed to click together so well in what she said. It just felt a little fake to him. But he didn't give a shit. She could lie to him overtly and he wouldn't call her bluff because the only thing he was less interested in than what she said were the things she DIDN'T say. Although the next comment forced a small genuine reply, in the form of a tiny suppressed laugh that seemed begrudgingly stolen from him. "pft. I suppose you could phrase it that way. It's a bit blunt but I'm not someone whom offends easily." He said with a mirthful expression. It seemed she was also putting on less of that cutesy pretense and getting down to the meat of things. Her reactions seemed more pragmatic than before. "A box of hats though... Kind of strange.." He wondered who in the world even had a box of hats that large that all needed mending at once. Whomever had asked it of her must be well-to-do... Maybe this girl could be useful to him after all? |

"Is it?" she asked "Well year end cleaning doesn't seem all that strange unless this city has odd traditions too." There was a faint chime in the distance. The kind that signaled the start of the hour on a public clock. Chetri pulled out her phone from her pocket to check the time, and then quietly slipped it back. "Ah, I probably should be going soon I think. I wouldn't want people to worry about where I am." |

"That's fine with me. I'm not one for sitting around all day anyhow.." He said idly. Once again a perfectly normal reply seemed so strange. Saying that end-of-the year cleaning was the cause was so suspiciously perfect for the situation. It was like a perfectly crafted lie. But there was no REASON for her to lie. It defied explanation. If she was being genuine then she just seemed awkward. If she was lying then it was pointless. As such he was baffled. But none of it mattered she wanted released from the conversation and he wasn't going to force her to stay. He'd already been pushed into buying dinner and aggravated beyond all reason by her. He wasn't even going to dare to tempt fate by prolonging their interaction beyond the bare necessity. It was one of his personal rules to not get involved with bothersome people. ESPECIALLY women. That was a good way to wind up with more trouble than one could process. And this woman seemed like she was far more problematic than anyone he'd met until now. He wasn't sure WHY he felt that way but his gut told him she was probably the sort to drag him into bothersome situations.. |
