In the darkest depths of Doki-Doki Land, Daisaku Yoshida found himself engaged in a fierce duel the likes of which were not often witnessed even in the superhuman's playground that was the city of Hyakuji. Though he had stared down far more threatening foes in the past, the young man was forced to take on this challenge as nothing more than a mere human. In other words, Daisaku's use of Spiral Power had been restricted, leaving him to press onward with nothing more than the merits of his mortal capabilities and character. Of course, willpower was the one superpower that no force could take away from this resolute youth, and to that end, Daisaku intended to keep fighting for the rest of his days if it meant claiming victory. Those around him were either in awe at his sheer, unyielding determination or vaguely bemused by the perceived hopelessness of his endeavor.

Before Daisaku sat a very large, stuffed Sonic the Hedgehog doll. It was nearly his equal in terms of stature, and there was not a single power in the known universe that could keep it from him. The only thing standing between the young man and his coveted prize was a very simple challenge issued by the man standing behind the counter. Laid out in front of the valiant warrior was a series of bottles, each one filled with liquid. For a small fee, Daisaku was allowed five chances to throw a ball into any of these bottles. While it was not in his nature to do battle on the terms of his enemy, Daisaku was willing to make an exception in this case. Yet the established conditions of the duel were far more difficult on the challenger than initially expected, as if intentionally skewed in favor of his opponent.

"Y'know I think I saw these things at the toy store for, like, one thousand Yen..." One of the observers cautioned Daisaku. However, his warning was ignored not out of malice, but rather, from the sheer grit and focus the boy was exerting. His crimson eyes shined with pure spirit and belief as he raised the tiny ping-pong ball to his face. With precise aim that would do any marksman proud, Daisaku hurled the ball with meticulously calculated force. Time slowed down as it soared through the air followed intently by Daisaku's deep, red eyes. Unfortunately, it, like his previous four attempts, was met only with failure, leaving a very disappointed Daisaku to make a temporary retreat.

"Man, I totally thought I had it that time, too..." He groaned, hanging his head in defeat. "Y'know, in retrospect, this place probably would've been more entertaining if I waited until I made some friends to come here." He mused aloud, strolling off into the heart of the park.

Wrong...in all the right ways.
Aurora, unfortunately, was not here in the amusement park to have fun like all the other kids around her. She was here on another contract, here to find someone's child. Unlike the cat she was trying to return to someone; this time, Aurora was here to steal away. She looked right and left, through the lines at the rides and on the rides themselves--so far, she found nothing. But Aurora was used to long days and difficult clients, so she was okay for now.

She was walking down the vendor station when she saw her target sitting there at the "Guess Your Age" stations. The girl was fourteen, though she looked a lot younger. And it was because of that Aurora smirked once the man guessed her age and promptly asked where her mother was. The girl pouted, told the man her age and took her gift. Aurora trailed, laughing and looking around. She was paying attention to the girl, paying attention to the people around her and concentrating on blending in.

So she stopped at a ping-pong ball station, watching as a child walked away with a frown from failing to gain his prize. So Aurora placed some yen down, gained three ping-pong balls, and with deadly accuracy, landed all three in the rotating bottles of water. The man stared, amazed, but handed her a huge stuffed animal. She smiled and nodded, chuckled and walked over to the kid who was looking down at the ground.

"Here kid, you need this more than I do." Making sure he didn't see her face, she handed him the giant blue contraption and walked away, following her target once more. "Merry Christmas!" She shouted from her shoulder.

Daisaku watched, completely dumbfounded, as a random passerby took it upon herself to succeed where he had failed. Not even one full minute after he meandered away from the ping-pong ball station, the counter was approached by a woman who appeared to be Daisaku's senior by several years. With her athletic frame and comparatively imposing stature, some would perceive her as being a rather intimidating specimen. However, Daisaku, wide-eyed idealist that he was, immediately identified her as a fellow do-gooder. Well, to be fair, that was his default reaction to virtually everybody he encountered in his day-to-day outings, but this time, he was especially certain about her nature. The deep, jagged scar running from her eye to her cheekbone was, the Spiral Warrior reasoned, likely the result of a hard-fought victory against a dastardly villain threatening the lives of civilians. Of course, that was only only glimpse of her face that he got before she turned to take on the ping-pong ball station.

However, what really surprised Daisaku was that, despite evidence suggesting that her damaged eye would negatively impact her depth perception, this mysterious woman effortlessly landed three ping-pong balls in three glasses with just as many attempts. She hardly even hesitated, calculating her aim with speed comparable to that of a supercomputer. Surely this incredible precision was not the work of a normal human being. Either that, or this woman had managed to achieve such accuracy through nothing more than tireless training and experience. The man behind the counter, clearly surprised that someone had so easily triumphed over his blatantly biased challenge, stared in shock as he handed her the Sonic the Hedgehog doll.

That being said, Daisaku was doing pretty much exactly the same thing. True, he hadn't used his own powers, but even his ordinary marksmanship was not to be ashamed of. Well, Daisaku supposed inwardly, I guess there are other dolls to win. Good for her. He smiled and considered congratulating the woman on her victory, but this quickly became unnecessary. Immediately after winning the oversized stuffed animal, she strode over to Daisaku and handed it off to him, though the Spiral noticed that she took care to use it to hide her face. Before he could say anything, though, she hurried deeper into the crowd and wished him a merry Christmas, leaving a very speechless Daisaku holding a giant Sonic the Hedgehog doll to watch her walk off. "I, uh-...yeah! Merry Christmas to you, too!" He called out with a cheerful smile, waving to her with his free hand.

Unfortunately, Daisaku's code of honor kicked in almost instantly as he realized that he was now in this woman's debt with no real way of repaying her. "Aw, damnit..." He whispered under his breath, knowing very well that his ethical standards wouldn't allow him to just go enjoy the rest of his day. So, holding the Sonic the Hedgehog doll under his arm, Daisaku gave chase. It didn't take long to catch up with the obvious agent of justice-in-disguise, given her relaxed yet focused pace. However, not wanting to disrespect her wishes, once the young man caught up with her, he strategically placed his rather large toy between them so that they couldn't see one another's faces. At first glance, of course, it would appear as though the woman were being spoken to by the doll itself rather than Daisaku.

"Hold on, I didn't even get the chance to properly thank you." He said, his friendly smile hidden by the doll. "I can't just let you do something nice for me without returning the favor. Goes against my code of ethics and all that. So, I, Daisaku Yoshida- Spiral Warrior extraordinaire, offer you my full services in whatever task you may need accomplished!" He announced rather heroically.

"I, uh-...yeah! Merry Christmas to you, too!"

That was her one good deed for the year. Aurora walked off, never expecting to hear from the kid again. She suspected that he ran off and told his friends about the strange chick with the hood on that just gave him a stuffed animal. Aurora smirked and kept on walking, slowly stalking her prey. There was only a few feet separating her from the completion of this contract, and Aurora was beginning to get that adrenaline rush that came with the end of a contract.

And then she heard it.

"Hold on, I didn't even get the chance to properly thank you. I can't just let you do something nice for me without returning the favor. Goes against my code of ethics and all that. So, I, Daisaku Yoshida- Spiral Warrior extraordinaire, offer you my full services in whatever task you may need accomplished!"

Aurora closed her eyes and shook her head a moment, trying to wish away the boy behind her. She turned on her heel and looked straight at him, her golden eyes now dyed green from contacts. She stared at this stuffed animal for a long time before putting her hand on it and lowering it so she could see the kid's face. Her hood hid her hair, but the expression on her face was very unamused. Who was this kid and why was he offering his-

"...offer you my full services in whatever task you may need accomplished! Aurora raised her eyebrow and stared at the kid once more. Did he really mean that? Any task she asked for, huh? Aurora smirked dangerously and looked at the kid up and down. So he was some sort of hero wanna-be; she would work with that.

"Well kid, if you really meant that, you can help me out with on-"

BOOM!

Aurora turned around and watched as people scrambled to find the nearest exit. What the hell...? Aurora narrowed her eyes and rushed forward, hoping to all heavens this wasn't what she thought it was. She knew there was another mercenary on her tracks, but she didn't know that he was going to try to sabotage her!

Rookie mistake...now you have to die.

Aurora forgot about the kid.

Daisaku remained hopelessly optimistic even as he stared directly into the cold, uncaring eyes of the woman who had, mere moments ago, performed an entirely selfless act of kindness in the name of little more than simple holiday cheer. Of course, though an intrinsically innocent young man, he was far from dense, so he certainly noticed that she appeared less-than-pleased with Daisaku's presence. The idea dawned on him that he should simply apologize, shrug his shoulders, and walk away, yet he couldn't help but notice a slight change in her previously-apathetic facial expression. True, this woman was still far from amused at the boy's perceived antics; however, she then seemed to gaze upon him with a look of contemplation rather than mild scorn. She cocked an eyebrow curiously before giving a very mischievous smirk- or at least that's how Daisaku saw it. She proceeded to eye him up and down, as if trying to decide whether she should pick him for her dodge ball team in gym class.

"Well kid, if you really meant that, you can help me out with on-" Daisaku momentarily beamed at the prospect of repaying the woman's act of kindness, but unfortunately, her request was interrupted in a decidedly bombastic fashion. Before she could so much as finish telling the Spiral Warrior what was required of him, an exceedingly loud explosion cut her off. While her first reaction was to see what chaos it had created among the park's visitors, Daisaku's conditioned response was to turn toward the apparent source of the blast. That being said, the chaos was somewhat difficult not to notice, and it most definitely was not something that Daisaku was happy with. His crimson eyes, once indicative of his childlike friendliness, were instantly locked into a resolute glare as his other facial features grew similarly tense and focused.

"Is this guy with you?" He asked sardonically in an attempt to find out if he was dealing with one of the woman's enemies. If not, this mysterious assailant could have been with the Anti Spirals, which would have meant absolutely nothing good for either of them. Unfortunately, Daisaku was met only with silence. He quickly looked around for a sign of the woman and could only give a pleased smirk when he saw her rushing headlong into the fray. A true hero if I ever saw one! Daisaku exclaimed with inward admiration before cracking his knuckles and grinning. "But now it's my turn."

Having witnessed first-hand the destruction caused by this attacker and recognizing the potential for civilian casualties, Daisaku had no problem amassing Spiral Energy in significant quantities. Staring into the heart of the explosion, the young man drew in a sharp breath and expelled it just as quickly. As he did so, an intense burst of light expanded from his heart in a brilliant plume of several dozen shifting colors. When this impressive display at last settled down into a small aura around the young man's body, his eyes were revealed to have changed into a dazzling- almost fabulous, one might say- shade of green, while his hair had gained a bit of gold in the front. However, despite their newly acquired beauty, they were still glaring viciously toward the explosion's source.

Without another word, Daisaku was off. Not wishing to waste any time, he opted to catch up with the woman as quickly as possible. With what appeared to be a single step, the young man disappeared from sight, moving at such incredible speed that he was invisible to the naked eye. This was maintained for a distance of approximately fifteen meters, at which point he reappeared next to his "partner". With the gap between the two closed, Daisaku kept pace with the woman, looking surprisingly prepared for combat. "Don't run off like that. I might start to think that you're tryin' to ditch me." The very instant lives were endangered, his entire disposition seemed to have changed into an attitude more befitting the Spiral Warrior he claimed to be. "Let's take this amateur down before anyone gets hurt..." He concluded, placing particular emphasis on avoiding casualties.

"Oh my, things seem to have really brightened up around here." Illtist half laughed from his perch atop one of the maintenance buildings of the funfair park; a Remnant nodding it's spooky little body with gusto at it's master's delight. Fair and carnivals offered Illtist more opportunities than even hospitals and battle fields for gathering his unique resources. No where, he had always maintained, could one find such a plethora of emotions, memories and human experiences waiting to be plucked and pulled and stitched together. His memory golems had been hard at work before, swimming through the crowds to harvest every opportunity they could.

Children's squeely glee, the clouds of fear gushed from roller-coasters and horror rides, the misery of loss at sideshow gimmicks; these things where collected. One Remnant in particular was having a ghastly ball taunting a boy with his eyes set on a garishly blue hedgehog doll. Phased and undetected it had been knocking away his pingpong balls off their aim, attempting to generate enough misery in him before attempting a harvest. It's plans where evidently spoilt thanks to some interloper in a hood. On a day this sunny of all things! Still, it's master walked about in a full suit and a silly hat so it had little room to judge.

The Remnant had floated back to it's master when the sound of explosions and panic rocked even the corrugated iron hut Illtist was chortling on. Now, however, this latest development has given the planeswalker something far more important to study: the infectious nature of human fear. Raising his hands like a puppeteer, the Remnants scattered about the park took on sleeker designs, their cloth like bodies shifting into swimming knives that darted among the spooked crowds; there was no need for subtlety now that everyone was all screamy and running each other over. The ghostlings passed through legs and chests and shoulders, unseen or hear, leaving their victims only with deep pain shooting through them.

From his vantage point he spotted something terribly strange; rather then flee from the epicentre, two silly individuals where actually running towards it. "Well this is a predicament. You," he snapped a finger at the recently returned Remnant at his side, it giving him a tiny salute, "Go watch what those two are up to. Report back when you have news." The shifty little critter shook it's head and darted off, phasing itself out of this reality partially and, once the two strangers had stop moving so damn fast, did it's best to keep trailing them.

Aurora didn't even hear the kid as she ran towards the explosion. She had just hoped that he was like a lot of people; turned and ran away. As she got closer towards the source of the chaos, her fingertips sparking like a lit firecracker, she turned her head. And...there was the kid. Damnit. Aurora frowned, but said nothing, turning her focus towards what she knew would be a fight for her money. A low growl started in her throat.

"Don't run off like that. I might start to think that you're tryin' to ditch me."

Aurora turned her face towards the boy and snarled, her lip curling upwards in anger. "I am trying to ditch you. Go home kid; you're going to get in my way." Her hands on her hips, Aurora turned towards the center of the explosion and walked forward calmly, listening to the eerie quiet; her eyes scanning every inch of the disaster around her. Aurora wasn't stupid, this man was here somewhere. She stopped walking and looked upwards, folding her arms around her chest. Aurora waited in the silence, knowing that any movement or noise would jus-

"Let's take this amateur down before anyone gets hurt..."

What the fu-! Aurora turned around and growled, snatching the kid by his throat and bringing him close, whispering harshly while her contact-green eyes glared and sparked. To say that she was pissed was a little of an understatement; she was livid. If this kid just cost her the element of surprise, she would rip out his hero-ego and shove it so far up his--

"Listen kid; you tag along, you listen to my orders; understand? You're absolutely silent. You don't move, you don't breathe unless I give you the okay. Now shut up and sit back."

Aurora threw the kid away from her and turned around, her shoulders slumping almost immediately. Why, you may ask. Well, dear reader, I'll tell you exactly why. Aurora's shoulders slumped because she heard the voice she wished violently that she wouldn't hear. She was hoping that it was some amateur, and by the sound of the voice that chuckled and surrounded her, this was no amateur. And it was at that time she knew--she never had the element of surprise--she had been played with since she had walked into the amusement park.

"Well, well, well. If it isn't the infamous Ruby. I didn't know you had a sidekick. How...quaint."

Daisaku, patient man though he may have been, was far from amused. As the woman reached out to grab a hold of his neck, the Spiral Warrior merely braced himself for the inevitable impact. His superhuman reflexes alerted him to her actions the very instant she lashed out in anger, yet the boy remained perfectly still until he felt her fingers wrap around his throat. As the wholly enraged woman pulled Daisaku close to her, his expression changed from one of relaxed yet focused determination to something far more agitated. It seemed that the two of them were equally put off by one another's methods, but even after what amounted to physical assault, the Spiral chose to listen to what his begrudging ally had to say on the matter. Her eyes crackled and sparked with what appeared to be supernaturally generated fire, suggesting, in no uncertain terms, that Daisaku was not dealing with an ordinary human-being. Still, the Spiral Warrior continued looking on quite unimpressed as she ranted and raved.

"...Alright, hardass, have it your way." He spat back as she threw him away, rubbing his throat and returning her glare with one just as fierce. "I'll just sit the hell back and let you deal with this." In his admittedly-brief time spent fighting injustice on his year long journey, Daisaku had never encountered someone who so precariously straddled the line of outright sociopathy without crossing over into villainy. For a boy with such an idealistic view of humanity, this was somewhat of an annoyance. Even so, however, he considered that perhaps he was being too harsh with her; after all, she had no way of knowing that Daisaku was competent in battle, let alone the superhuman combatant that he was. Unfortunately, despite his better judgment telling him to calm down and take the "moral high ground", Daisaku let his frustration get the better of him. So, when he spoke again, he did so with such vicious conviction that a person of lesser constitution would have been shaken to their very core.

"But I swear, if I see even one casualty- just one civilian injured, then whoever it is you're fighting, I'm gonna rip through them like tissue paper before either of you can even blink." His eyes flashed with Spiral Energy, but rather than Daisaku's characteristic shade of green, this energy was a far more malevolent crimson. "If I have to go through you to do that, then that's your problem. Understand?!" His final statement- a sarcastic, mocking echo of the woman's own ultimatum- was practically spat out in pure anger.

So, he simply watched as she turned to survey her environment, no doubt feeling like quite the professional in spite of her previous outburst. However, mere moments after issuing his terms, Daisaku placed his hand on his forehead and let out a brief, sharp sigh. Ugh...where the hell did that come from? I...I shouldn't let my anger get the best of me. He shook his head as his Spiral Energy returned to its normal color, though he would have to look into his momentary loss of self-control. The anger he felt toward the woman as she almost instinctively treated him with scorn had subsided, though he was still quite frustrated with her. Certainly, he didn't intend to directly help her out unless her life was in danger. Instead, he chose to perform his own scan of his surroundings, though rather than look for any enemies, Daisaku was searching for innocent bystanders who could potentially be put in harm's way. Fortunately for everyone involved, there didn't seem to be any left in the immediate vicinity, leaving only the two of them to deal with this unseen foe.

Good fortune decided to shine upon Daisaku yet again as his new found enemy decided to make himself known early on. However, his "comrade" didn't seem quite so thrilled to find out who it was they were facing. Her shoulders slumped as the realization dawned on her mere moments before he announced his presence. "Well, well, well. If it isn't the infamous Ruby. I didn't know you had a sidekick. How...quaint." A voice called out. While he still didn't intend to directly intervene, this statement did manage to catch Daisaku's attention. "...Sorry to burst your bubble, guy, but I'm not exactly her 'sidekick'." He retorted with a sort of dry wit, folding his arms nonchalantly across his chest. "Think of me as the cleanup crew. If this hardass over here fails to subdue you, I'm the one who's gonna swoop in and take you down. Daisaku Yoshida's the name."

Illtist had to chuckle to himself. Watching the exchange through the eyes of one of his Remnants, it was like spying on a playground; for lack of a less creeper metaphor. More in the feral hound way then a sexual predator, you understand. They didn't present a united front, and that didn't bode well for their efforts against this new character or against the planeswalker. Between the recent explosion and now, several more Remnants had begun to encircle the area; in their usual hunting tactic. They kept their distance, however, for caution of these unfamiliar animals.

By now the crowds were barely screaming trickles, clinging to the edges of the theme park; a lost child here or a cowering shadow there hoping to avoid whatever secondary blasts the day had in store. At the young warrior's stern words on innocence and other such silly things, Illtist summoned another Remnant from the fabric of his coat, still a league off on utility build roof. Illtist turned to it with a knife blade grin. "Bring me some bait. I'll have the hero first." The memory golem's torn mouth curled with some deeply satisfied glee, spiralling upwards before darting of towards the still distraught crowds of people.

Half way to the surge of panic, the hunting Remnant stopped dead in it's half-flight. Hovering just above head level, it heard the echoing cry or something soft and weak and sobbing. It's forelimbs rippled and stretched to sound of tearing cloth and snapping twigs till they resembled elongated claws, near twice the length of the monster's ghostly torso body. It swam up through a colonnaded sitting area and found, shivering in the black shade of a woman's restroom the form of the little girl; once hunted by the mercenary missus now so distracted. The shadow encoiled her, binding feet and hands and mouth, spiriting her away.

(ah...thisis dead. Consider me leaving it)
