Prologue Aki stumbled clumsily out the door of the 'temporarily' defunct place she'd grown to call home in just a short time. To her, it had felt like a lifetime, but what could a girl do? The jobless martial artist carefully made her way down the front steps, careful to take each stair one at a time but still managing to nearly skip a few and almost fall forward. Stupid good for nothing goddamn ungrateful stairs. That's what they were, giving up on her despite how much care she took to use them. They'd probably abandon her to fight some stupid not-for-nothing military bastard too if they were cemented to the floor. Just barely making it to the landing, Aki looked both ways down the sidewalk, hardly a car in sight at this hour and certainly not a taxi to be seen from either direction. It looked like she might actually have to walk all the way to the bus station. She mumbled and cursed under her breath as she prodded her memory for which direction she'd come from. Aki immediately regretted not driving the motorcycle here. If she'd known the detective was going to pay it off, she wouldn't have worried about driving it while a bit tipsy. "I know the damn thing is in one of these direction, I just gotta..." She sighed and fell backwards onto her butt. Yeah she was going nowhere fast, but Aki refused to go back inside and that selfish ex-boss of hers. She should have been the one taking the bullet here...she always had to be. Aki was the tough one, the one who could come out alive or dead and the world would be better for it either way. Maybe she could just find a nice bush to curl up in or something... "Ugh..." That was fun. Really fun. If it hadn't been for the fact that Jameson decided to close up the Willicott Detective Agency. He said it was temporary. But will it really be temporary if the next thing that follows are possibilities of their deaths? He had grown to like this place, to love it. It was like his second home. It has all the stereotype that make up a happy family. The hot-blooded one, the dorky one, the snarky one, the cool one, the quiet one... heck. Any normal family can't be this diverse. Or open. This family is unique. The WDA makes everyone that joins them a member of the family... But now the family is gone. Lost. Broken up. And there's a possiblity that it will never reform. That sucked. He had placed hope in this place, he had chosen this place as the place he'd rather be at to spend the rest of his life. He doesn't want it to end. He wanted the happy moments to last forever... A childish wish. It just won't happen. Things changes. Happy moments don't last long. One of these days it's just going to be a small fragment of near-forgotten memory. Seth wiped his eyes on the sleeve of his red coat, dragging his gift bag behind him. He wasn't sure what he should do next. He can't go back into th office. No one can. They have been barred until further notice. And who knows when the 'further notice' is going to come. ... He brought his arms down, blinking back his tears, when he saw someone familiar in a suit sitting at the sidewalk. "Aki...? What are you still doing out here? It's cold," Edited by Fin, Dec 16 2010, 11:53 PM.

Any minute now, she'd get herself back on her feet and totally get to the bus station. There was an art to this sort of thing, though most people weren't aware of that. The trick was to get up right as the sky was properly aligned with where she would be right side up as she got up. This was proving tricky tonight though as it seemed to be moving particularly fast tonight. Shifty bastards, those stars and clouds and moon and moon and moon. She couldn't help following it as it went around as if watching days pass before her eyes without ever seeing the daylight that came between them. This was the last time she ever drank this much bathtub liquor. Or used the guy in the room next door's bathtub. There was definitely stuff in there. He said there wasn't anything in there, but there totally was. No one cleans their bathrooms properly anymore. Lazy son's-a-bi-- "Oh, Seth." Aki looked upwards/behind her as her eyes slowly focused on the familiar shape of good ol' slick. "Hey, uh...I can't find the bus station and it doesn't look like it's coming to me. So I'm kind of sitting on my ass, I guess." It was pretty reasonable to think that Aki would never find it if she barely made it past the landing of the building she just left. Still, she gave herself an A for effort given her present condition. "It's cool, it's cool, I just need to uh..." She sat up slowly and looked both ways across the streets again, but still didn't see any familiar blurs. "Ah damn..." Her voice was sort of higher and distressed. She was a bit like a child in this state and Aki couldn't help but feel like the kid who caught lost in a shopping mall. "So uh...hey" She said, scratching the back of her head without turning around. Her voice seemed meeker, but still a bit slurry. "I know it's kind of stupid for me to ask, but do you think you could get me back to my apartment?" She tilted her head around to face him, a mixture of embarrassment and subtle desperation in her eyes. She was still fighting the need to get emotional over the WDA thing and the frustration of the cold night and the lack of direction wasn't helping at all. |

He eyed her fragile figure, standing there on the sidewalk looking like a lost kid. Who would have thought she could actually look so defenseless. He was so used to her tough attitude it's kinda jarring to see her like this. That said, where are her parents? All this time she had lived a very carefree life. Smoking, clubbing, drinking, those are the sort of stuff he would be punished for if his parents ever found out that he was involved in it. But her... doesn't she have anyone...? Her voice gave it away. The content of her sentences put an exterior of someone who doesn't give a damn about what just happened. But the content of her voice suggested something completely different. Loneliness, sadness, despair... he can't blame her for that. No one can. Everyone in the WDA has considered the entire crew as family. Having the agency shut down is like having the family completely broken up to millions of pieces. They had found hope in the agency. They had found happiness, made memories, found a reason to live... But now it's gone... Seth dropped his bag of gifts and slipped off from his red coat. He draped it over to the girl wearing the pinstriped suit, saying, "Keep that on. I don't think a suit can keep you warm," He was freezing himself, but at least his sweater is a tad bit thicker than her suit. Not to mention, he didn't drink any alcohol. He kinda saw somewhere in TV that alcohol, whilst giving the drinker a warming feeling, actually takes heat away from your extremities, focusing it at the core of your body. Not something a person in a pinstriped suit sitting outside in the winter cold would want. She still looks a little wobbly though. ... Okay, so wobbly is a bit of an understatement. Leaving her to go home alone is close to being suicidal. What if she walked right into a lamp post, or fall into a sewer, or inadvertently walked right at the middle of the street and gets herself run over by someone who suddenly had the brainwave to drive a car at this time of the night? Damn, she looked so hopeless... he promptly took her hands, motioning her to follow him. "You're gonna have to tell me the address, though. I don't know where you live," |

Aki smiled a bit as the soft red coat floated over shoulders like a soft, warm red thing. Her body slowly began to feel a bit warmer and she hadn't realized how cold she was until it had. "Heh...thanks. I must look pretty miserable right about now, but I guess I wouldn't drink if I didn't have a reason or two huh?" Aki giggled to herself, feeling a bit lighter on her feet now that Seth was here. Of course it was comforting to have anyone who was completely sober here with her at all. He just happened to be an especially kind and trustworthy fellow. The kind of guy her friends from the old days would have driven them to club after club just for the honor of being able to be around them. But he was too sweet for anyone to do that to. Maybe back then she'd have strung him around for awhile before they moved on to bigger and better things. But things were like that anymore. They weren't here just to get bigger and better. Aki didn't really understand it herself, maybe she was too drunk or maybe it was just too damn foreign for her a foreigner like her to get. She saw him reach his hands out and instinctively reached out to grab them in her own. His were much warmer than hers and maybe even a bit softer. Hers were delicate, but rough from wear without much consequence. The hands of someone who lived fast and loose, but was strong enough to get by without any scars. Not physical ones anyway. Aki stumbled to her feet, using him for support as she leaned herself up against him, settling her chin onto his shoulder. She allowed herself to close her eyes for a moment, feeling stable as the world had stopped spinning around her and she had someone to lean on. Everything was calm. "Hmm? Ah..." She muttered breathy sounds into his neck in response to his question. Reaching casually into the folds of her jacket, Aki produced a small wallet. With a slight pop the latch fell open and she felt around inside for only a moment before producing a piece of paper. "I can never remember, it's written on here..." She said sleepily, waving the card in front of him. The small piece of paper that appeared to be an inconspicuous business card for an antique hat shop hid, on its blank side, an address scratched in rushed handwriting. The address wasn't far from there, a short bus ride or a moderate walk. Or a really long ass train ride if you keep sleeping through your stop. As they made their way down the street, whether towards the bus station or the apartment directly she couldn't tell with her eyes closed (not that having them open would have afforded her much more information) Aki mumbled once again into his neck. "Seth...even if the WDA is closed, we'll still see each other, right?" It had been nagging at her since announcement whether they'd all see each other again now that it was over. Did breaking up mean they couldn't be a family anymore? It didn't seem right. |

The winter wind blew over their figures as they made their way directly towards her apartment, guided by the address written on the back of the business card. He went as slowly as possible so as not to make her feel even more wobbly than she already is. His hands held tightly to hers, while holding her close to him with his other hand. He feared that if he let her go, she might as well keel over. Or she might stray away, which is not surprising given her current state. But mostly it's because... ... it's because... ... He just doesn't want to let her go. The prospect felt horrible somewhat. Letting go of a person who had come to rely on him. Leaving her to her own device, to fend for herself... True, she may be strong. True, she's one tough cookie, but the way she is now... it seemed like a mere prod can cause her to shatter. Right now she's as fragile, no... even more fragile than glass. He doesn't want to let her go. For some reason, he doesn't want to see her crumble, even for a little. As they trod towards her apartment, he heard something over his neck that seemed like a question. A question with an answer all formed up and ready to be used. It was so obvious. So clear, she needn't have asked. "Of course," was his answer. He said it without hesitation. There was no way they're going to go about with their separate ways just because their common workplace had been shut down. Because if they did, then the memories from before may as well be pure made up lies. He doesn't like it. Life made out of nothing but lies... it felt wrong... They reached the apartment. It looked a bit worn down from the outside, but who knows what's inside? |

That was the answer Aki had been hoping to hear and thinking of it seemed to warm her up a little inside. She smiled, but decided not to say any more on the subject. By now she probably already looked about as helpless as could be; even if it was with him she couldn't help but feel like she needed to be strong. Around him, Aki definitely wanted to be strong. They finally stopped walking a short while later and she opened her eyes to the familiar blur of her apartment building. With a smirk, she dug into her pants pocket and produced a worn looking key. She reluctantly let go of Seth and took a few steps towards the door with intense concentration like she was playing a strangely sighted game of the pin the tail on the donkey. As providence would have it, the key went in with a single stroke, but the key scratches of stupors past appeared to remain etched around the hole. As they reached the door of the second story apartment, Aki turned the handle effortlessly. She rarely locked this door since it was a pretty nice neighborhood. Moreover though she didn't have much that was worth stealing. Overall the place looked fairly bare with bland looking furniture and a queen sized bed sitting just under the main window at the other edge of the studio flat. The odd knickknack sat on the end of a table here and there: an antique radio, an Italian lamp and a framed and enlarged photo of several men standing in front of an old looking car all wearing their respective zoot suits. "Bed..." she moaned quietly, indicating she'd like for him to take her to the bed which, for someone in her condition, was a long way to walk without falling over. There was a pretty good chance she'd still fall even with Seth to support her. If not because she was still drunk but because the law of blotto-headed entropy meant that all standard alcoholics will eventually succumb to gravity. That was what the bed was for. |

Goodness, there's really nothing in here. Not even a cat. As far as he could see this looked more like a home for some unemployed bachelor. Even then, he would expect something a bit more lively, like a television set or a dining table or... even a vase full of flowers. But there's nothing. Not even the air of her parents who had decided to call it a day after waiting longingly for their daughter to return from a Christmas party with some friends. Is she really alone...? He placed his arm around her, holding her shoulders so as not to let her keel over, guiding her over to the bed while being careful not to accidentally trip on her barely functioning legs. She looked so weak right now it was incredible that she actually managed to climb up the stairs leading up to the second floor without falling down. Although, this time with every step closer they took to the bed, she seemed more likely to faint. The walk to the bed wasn't exactly far. About fourteen steps and he'd reach it. Provided he did not have to cradle a drunken girl who looked as though she had her life drained from her. Gently (which was a hard thing to do seeing as she's really nothing more than a dead weight by now) he motioned her to sit on the bed. Even then he kept his hold on her, for fear she might actually stumble forward to the floor instead of backward on the bed. For the moment when he held her like that, he thought... why would he help her? Why would he go this far just to help her? Well, he could just say that it's just like him to help people. But... with her it's different story. He didn't just like to help her. He... he cared for her. It's different than just wanting to help others. If he fails to help those who cry for help, he'd feel like he just neglected them. But for her... he thought that, if he left her alone, he'd feel much much worse than neglecting those who cry for help. And it's because of that that it's strange. Their first meeting started as a brawl. She'd brought him to a club and he got himself drunk and was beaten up by some random guys, and he got himself a death threat for being honest about her terrible cooking. Overall, she's been nothing but trouble to him. So why did he care for her so much? "Feeling better?" He asked her softly, looking straight into her unfocused eyes with an expression of concern. "Get some rest, okay? I'm sure you'll feel better in the morning," He slid his hands off from her shoulder, standing up as he did. "I'm gonna lock the door. If you need the key it's on the couch," He'll let her rest for the night, get some good sleep and let everything washed away by the upcoming slumber. ... He'll visit her next morning. "Right... goodnight," And with that he turned around for the exit. |

Aki slid with an audible groan onto the familiar white cotton sheets. The sensation was something like falling into an old, but comforting cloud she hadn't visited in quite some time. For a moment she was even tempted to grab hold of a pillow and mutter 'hello old friend' as she slowly drifted off into a dreamless blackout. However, the voice of a much younger friend called her attention away. "I'm alright...just..." He continued on, seemingly pressing the last goodnight. She didn't blame him for wanting to get away.. she'd been nothing but trouble for him since they met. Always being loud and boisterous and dragging him into fights and troublesome situations. In the ends things usually seemed to work out, but somehow it was always because of him. Not because he was the toughest or the strongest, or the loudest, but because he was the kindest and the most courageous. Aki couldn't help feeling like she was somehow just always getting in his way. What was it about him that cut right through her like that? She was so used to feeling like she was on top of things and constantly had things under control. Maybe she was just too controlling.. maybe there were just some things it was better to let him do on his own. It was too difficult for her to wax philosophical the things that troubled her deep down, but even in such a tipsy way Aki knew she couldn't let him leave. For once in her life, she felt like she couldn't be alone. She'd just be imposing on him again, making him do things he didn't want to for her own comfort but he couldn't expect her to change all in one night. For now, just for tonight, she needed to be a little selfish. "Seth..." Aki said meekly as he turned to walk away. Slowly, she sat up on the bed, unable to stare him in the face. Her eyes set firmly on his shoes, she held a tentative hand up to her chest and took a deep breath. "Please.. don't leave.. do you think... do you think maybe you could stay the night?" Aki slowly moved her eyes upwards to where his would be if he'd turned around. She half-expected him to be completely exhausted of her by now or maybe even angry. Her cheeks blushed softly and just from lying on the bed her usually finely groomed hair had begun to curl in the places where she'd laid it on the pillow. |

Seth stopped in his track. Contemplating her good ol’ selfish little request. For some reason, he smiled and gave a small inaudible chuckle. Now that’s more like her. Barging ahead making herself as imposing as possible, always putting him into trouble… You’d have thought he’d hate her for that. Well… a small part of him IS a bit annoyed by her demanding nature. But for the most part, he thought, well, this is Aki. He turned around with a small hopeless smile on his face, meeting her eyes with an expression that is neither exasperated nor angry, sighing slightly and said, “You really are a high-maintenance girl…” What? He couldn’t help it. Not to mention he felt like he should cheer her up a bit, take some pressure off from her. He dropped the bag of gift he had been lugging around all these time, made his way towards her and dropped himself on the bed right next to her. Once again he gave a sigh. He took her hand on the bed and grasped it firmly, feeling the delicate feminine fingers in his hand, giving a small laugh. “Come here…” He raised his arm, placing it around her, pulling her into a tight yet gentle one-armed embrace. How many times have this worked on his sister whenever she’s feeling cranky, he couldn’t remember. How many times have his mom used this move whenever he’s feeling down, he can’t remember. But what he could remember is the feeling of relief as all the problems that had piled on his shoulders was squeezed away by the simple act of a hug. Now it’s her turn to have her worries siphoned away. “I’ll stay,” He wanted her to know… “I won’t leave you,” He’s here for her. |

Aki watched him tentatively as he stopped in place, seemingly weighing the options in his head. She couldn't see his face, but his shoulders seemed to shake slightly in the pale light emanating from a single lamp and the distant moon shining through the blinds. She swallowed sort of hard, fighting the urge to get mad at him for being this indecisive for so long. Her eyes widened slightly as he began to turn around, the sight of his teasing smile catching her heart in a trap the moment it hit her. A high maintenance girl... Aki smiled, looking incredibly relieved. Maybe that was true, she was a high maintenance girl. Right now, she could care less now that she'd managed to get her way once again. He dropped his bag to the ground and walked slowly back over to the bed and she watched him, suddenly feeling like the bed wasn't really big enough. The bed shook slightly as Seth plopped himself down right next to her, Aki watching him with a slightly bewildered expression. She couldn't be more unsure of what to do in a situation like this. The irony being that this was hardly the first time she'd ever been with someone in this sort of fashion but out of all those memories Aki never remembered anything special about those guys. Seth at least felt like someone she could see herself spending a lot of time with. He made her feel like she wasn't just some punk orphan from Chinatown. She looked down at her hand as the sensation of warmth spread through her cold fingers. Over top of her hand was his and as he murmured something Aki didn't quite catch, she felt herself being pulled towards him. She fell forward clumsily into his grasp, gasping slightly as arm wrapped naturally around him in return. Her face lit up suddenly like a Christmas tree and that frightening sensation of vulnerability returned. She frowned slightly behind his back, feeling guilty that she couldn't enjoy this as much as she should. Even if she had trouble letting him in, Aki was even more afraid of shutting him out. She released herself from his grasp and looked down at the bed for a moment before smiling up at him and sliding off the bed. "I'll be right back..." she whispered, turning and walking off towards the bathroom. Passing the lamp as she went, she flicked it off, darkening the apartment leaving only the bed visible in moonlight. The path to the bathroom wasn't far from the bed and strategically placed for maximum allowability for drunk stupors and hangover alike. Aki had learned it fairly well, but she felt oddly sober as she closed the door behind her. After a few moments of shuffling Seth could hear the door open again and the soft patting of bare feet across the wooden floor make its way towards him. Her silhouette became slightly more visible at the edge of the bed as bare knee slid onto it with a long, shapely leg in tow. Aki, clad in only her dress shirt with her hair down to its natural curls laid down beside him. "You didn't think I was going to sleep in my suit, did you?" she whispered. She stared at him for a few moments, her smile gradually fading as the blood steadily rose in her cheeks. However despite her blush she seemed completely at peace. Her voice was soft and velvety in the dark, like a whisper just on the edges of his ears, easy enough to hear and impossible not to try harder to listen to. "Seth...thank you...for everything..." Aki seemed to be fixated on him and her eyes narrowed slightly as they went into a dreamy expression. She began slowly moving towards him across the few inches of bedding that separated them, her breathing going slightly shallow until she was so close he could practically feel it on his face. She slowly closed her eyes as she leaned towards him... "Thank...you..." Her lips parted slightly, soft and warm and inviting as they encroached on Seth's own. Only two inches more... an inch more... a centimeter... ZZZZZZZZ The light plop of head against pillow seemingly ended the affair before it began. Aki lay peacefully blacked out amongst the sheets, attempting in futility to dream of the deed she was about to perform. Edited by Dominique, Dec 20 2010, 05:13 AM.

"Ah-... A-wh... Huh-...uhuh-....ack....---arr---.-..." He stammered like some old broken radio. ... "Um..-. ur-h... est...-that-.... hurm...--" Mind frozen, unable to access the part responsible for conversing capability. ---you--- "H-huh...?" His bright red face slowly returned to their original color, as a familiar voice that usually doesn't mean good news whenever he hears it was heard. And sure enough... YOU DAMN FRIKKIN' PERVERTED BASTARD!!!!!! Following the Wrath of Monologue was a series of silent and furious combat with Seth's own body. Quite literally, as his own fists after fists came flying right at his own face, and his only option was to How the hell am I supposed to know. The voice inside his head answered scathingly. I lost all contact with everything right after you got out of the office, and I've been trying to reset the connection with your brain, and hell, what I don't expect to see is that YOU'RE TRYING TO MOLEST A GIRL IN THEIR SLEEP!!!! "She just asked me to take her home, that's all!" Oh, sure. Then explain, why the hell are you still here when she's asleep with nothing but a dress shirt? "That's... that's because..." His mind worked wildly in search for a reason to give V without having him misunderstand anything. "Well... she asked me to stay the night..." Seth tensed up when V did not answer immediately as he would usually have done. He became even more bewildered when V gave a sigh instead of berating him. Oh boy... He said with a slight exasperation. Say... what happened after the party...? V said in an unnaturally small voice. There was a slight pause as he recalled scenes after scenes. Aki sitting alone on the sidewalk, covered her with the red coat, took her home, gave her a hug, her figure in nothing but her dress shirt, and the soft, luscious red lips of hers when she g- Okay okay, stop. you don't need to recall anymore. V forcefully severed his connection with the part of his brain that contains memory. And just in the nick of time too. Seth face was burning red hot he's in danger of dying from heatstroke. Yet another moment of pause as both of them pulled themselves together. V, with bravado steered the situation back to his comfort zone. RIGHT. So. You've done your job, now let's go home He attempted to take Seth's leg and walk right out of the door, when he realized that he can't do so. In fact, he was surprised that Seth, instead of going out, turned around and approached the slumbering Aki. He-HEY! WAAAIIIT!!!! YOU-YOU FRIKKIN'- Contrary to his expectation, Seth stopped immediately before her bed, and dropped himself on the floor, sitting cross-legged with his hands on his knees. "What?" He asked the bemused V. "I promised I'd stay the night," Yup. He said he'd stay. He won't leave her. No matter how much V protested, no matter how much he threatened to kill him, he won't leave her. He promised he'd stay. He eyed her dozing face with a smile. Isn't she cute? Creep. It wasn't long before he himself succumbed to the might of drowsiness. Man. That night was exhausting. ~~~~~ Next morning, she would find him sitting on the floor with his head on the bed, snoring loud enough to act as an alarm clock. Edited by Fin, Dec 20 2010, 11:07 AM.
