4:30 in the Morning. The sun did not even peek its head yet. The city is as quiet as it could ever be, and the street light is shining down onto the street, casting its lonely shadow behind it. Not a single person can be seen in the main road- They are either dead drunk somewhere, or dead asleep otherwhere. Everything is quiet. All but a quiet shadow that walks down the main road of the street from one side of the city to another. The shadow walks down the park speedily. Her feet shifts quickly and quietly, as if she is in a rush to somewhere. An urgent aura surrounds her movement, as if she is rushing for something important. Yet, not one single shift of her feet indicates emergence. In fact, it'd be more suitable to call her movement a "swim" across the rocky surface than a shift, as the sound of her footsteps sound smooth, and almost frictionless. The 5' 7" shadow holds within her right hand what seems to be a huge water bottle for jogging. Her outfit, however, do not coordinate with the . A shrine maiden outfit. In addition, the outfit is not in the typical red, but in a aqua blue. Something seems to be hidden in her left, long sleeve. What is hidden, however, is yet to be revealed. The miko walks down the path hastily, until she hears a rustle in the grass besides her. She pauses. Something is stirring. Or is it not? Is it her imagination? She has been on the edge ever since she has obtained with what she has under her sleeves. Numerous times she thought that someone was watching her. Numerous times she found out that she was only paranoid. Yet, she seemed not to be able to shake off this feeling. The presence of elemental is light, but it is present. Water? No. She herself can't control this presence. Wind? Definitely not. It'd be similar to that of either Tenkuu's or Chizu's if it really is element of wind. Light? No. Light's presence is ominous, and she wouldn't be able to ignore. Shadow? .... It's faint, but possible. Who? Who would want to keep a watch at her? She could be having another of those paranoid days. It's better to ignore this right now. She needs to get to the water tower as soon as possible. ... Little did she notice the sparks of cold, watchful eyes hidden at the corner of the bushes. The eyes gaze at the back of the woman tightly, their slightly-upward stare tightly fixed at her occipital. Had these stares been dagger, the girl would have died instantly. Yet, these stares are so hidden well, that the girl can only feel it but not find it. The eyes continues to stare, as if they were waiting for the perfect chance to strike. The perfect second, no, the perfect milli-second. |

The young girl's hands were on the swing chains. She wasn't particularly doing anything. Just sitting there, thinking, and rocking gently with the wind in the cold night air, illuminated only by the streetlights in the distance to light up walkways. It was ironic, but Chetri found it easier to think when she was alone than around other people. Ironic because the reason around others, the degree of difference between herself and most people of it all made her seem all the more alone despite the company, while being actually alone simply provided the solitude she had always been used to. She'd always done her missions alone, with little support. Rare was the time she'd ever went alongside others, and so she'd always been the most independent of the Numbers. It was that which led to her detachment in the first place. Even if she could feel secure or safe in their company, she could never feel herself as quite 'part' of anything. It was why, as of late, she'd been sneaking off to quiet, secluded places to think. To be allowed to lose herself in her own thoughts, and wonder, where to go from here? What now? It was a set of questions she couldn't answer really. For all her desire to think on her own, she was surprisingly ill prepared in that department when it came down to it. She could be clever and resourceful, and when she had a goal, knew exactly how to go about to achieve it. The problem was actually setting one. All the years of having them set for her had left her unable to do it herself. ...What did she really want to do with herself? Unable to find an answer, all she could do was think, and hope to either come up with an answer herself, or stumble into it eventually. But the reason she was here wasn't just the solitude. Considering she knew noone here, there had been no reason for anyone to visit her in the room she stayed in at the WDA office anyway. It was for more practical reasons. Unlike before, where she was relatively safe, this time, she knew she was being hunted. By now, that she'd left the organisation would have been established by her former superiors, and she knew that they would soon come to kill her. She wouldn't allow that of course, even if it meant having to fight people she'd known all her life. The problem was in a building with other people, there was a chance they'd end up caught in the crossfire of a battle. If she had to fight, better for it to be in a secluded area than a popular one. Then she could go all out without getting in the way of anything, and others she could likewise act without others getting in her way. They also wouldn't have potential hostages or threats to use against her, and let everyone else sleep at night at least. There was little worry about them going for the others first. They would be, strictly speaking, targets of opportunity or witnesses to be removed. No, she was definitely going to be hunted first. The others, to them were nothing more than an unsuccessful contract. She meanwhile, was a traitor and deserter to the organisation, and letting her go would have set a bad precedent. The Park at night was almost ideal for that. It was quiet enough for her to be lose herself in her thoughts, but also snap awake if anyone else approached. It was open enough to allow her to see what she would be up against, while affording her cover and terrain to fight with. Swaying back and forth on the swing. It was actually abit chilly in the clothes she was wearing, but she didn't mind. It kept her awake at least, but it was soon time to head back. She got up and brushed off her skirt... and stopped. ... There were people about. Not close yet, but even so, cause enough for concern given her circumstances. ... That was quick of them, she thought. Edited by Katyusha, Dec 15 2010, 09:36 AM.

One step. Two steps. Three steps. The woman quickly pick up her pace and starts running again. This is not feeling right. Someone is watching her. From the shadows. There is no mistakes. The creeping of the elementals from the dark starts to resembles that of shadowmancy, and Kaede has read more than enough of Damon's to determine this particular element at its slight presence. She is half a foot into the opponent's territory. She knew that there is an open ground nearby. A playground to be exact. The lights there are brighter, and that'd buy her a little more time to guess where the elemancer is. Depending on the power of the elemancer, however, the brightness may become the elemancer's tool. For shadow and light are the absolute opposite of each other, thus it becomes possible for an elemancer to control both light and dark by using the anti-presence of each other. If a shadowmancer can control both the presence and anti-presence of shadow like Damon, the shadowmancer may as well consider himself a photomancer. This exact reason makes it a risky step to take. She has no choice, however. In order for the person in the shadow to move, she herself needs to move. She starts dashing. As expected, the feeling of being watched also moves along as she moves, and it has never left her back. A cold chill runs down her spine, as she grips harder to both of her hands. The playground is in sight. Kaede runs into the playground, and immediately towards the center of the playground where the brightest street light is at- the clock. To reach the clock, she needs to pass by the swing and the slide, but it is not too far of a distance. It would have been faster if she has gone the other way, but now that she has made an action of showing the person in the dark that she knew of his presence, she has also told him to take his action. She turns her direction and runs pass the slide. Before she makes a stop at the light, she opens the water bottle and pours every single drop of the water onto the ground in front of her. The miko's body leans against the clock pole, her eyes gazes forward. She looks around her surrounding for the origin of any noises. It seems that all is silent, but she could hear movement in the bushes around the swing just a few seconds ago. She narrows her eyes, and looks at the bushes with every bit of her attention. The temperature in the surrounding suddenly drops, and the humidity of the environment along with it. With her right hand spread and her body tense, the miko is ready to strike any time she sees any movement. ... Only if she had also take a note at what is not in front of her. A series of thin needles flies towards the woman's occipital from behind her. Among all of them, one in particular is much longer and sharper than all others. A 5 mm circumference sharp silver needle that aims to pierce the woman through the throat. Edited by Sybilus, Dec 15 2010, 11:43 AM.

![]() A heavy projectile cut through the air. Between needles and a .4kg knife, the winner of contest would be obvious as the heavy blade cut through the lot of them before embedding itself on a post. It was a nigh-perfect interception. There were some scratches on the knife, but otherwise it had cleanly gone through the barrage with little effort. The person who'd thrown it didn't make themselves visible, but clearly, there were were more people here than expected. |

A clear crash between metal and metal rings behind the ears of the miko, as she feels a breeze of cool air brushes pass her neck. Her body quickly reflexed by sidestepping, and evade the rest of the needles. The woman turns around, and see the thickest needle on the ground. She knew immediately that the knife has just saved her. A drop of cold sweat slips pass her cheek, when she realizes how close she was to the gate of death. But there is no time for her to think. The keep-watch figure dashes out of his hide, and quickly stabs forth with his own short dagger, aiming, this time, at where the woman's right kidney would be. He is fast, but the woman is faster. The Miko turns around, her right hand opens, and a shield made of ice appears in front of her. She crosses her arms behind the shield to brace for the attack, as her feet dodges backwards to buy distance. Her right hand grips hard, and six ping-pong size balls form around her right fist. The shield shatters, and the sharp object changes its course from the sudden obstacle. The man's reaction also changes along with it, as he drags his knife up to slash up against the woman's arm. At the same time, the heavy survival knife that was supposed to be embedded on the post quietly pulls out, and drops onto the floor. Yet, it did not make any sound as it drops onto the floor. Instead, it seems to somehow float between the surface of the ground and air. A thin layer of substance is blocking its landing. The woman's feet are in the move again, this time to her right. She releases her crossed arm, and pulls her fist back. She punches forward, aiming at the man's face, and rapid-fires her six ping-pong water bullets forth at mere 8 inches away from the man's face. The survival knife quickly moves onto the floor towards where its master was at, almost as if the person who threw it was retracting it at the speed of retracting a retractable weapon. Only that, the direction that the knife was pointing was wrong. The water bullets misses and brushes passes the bushes, leaving six obvious holes among the bushes- the bullets were so strong in force that even the leaves and the branches were cut and bent upon contact. The man in front of the miko suddenly disappears, as if he has teleported. Instead, a male figure appears from the darkness in front of the hidden person, and, at a mere 6 inches away, slashes across the person's throat with the person's own knife. Elemental! Kaede could not be more certain, now, that the attacker is an elemancer. Did he fuse himself with the element? Is he controlling a mass of shadow as his doll? She couldn't tell. All she could tell, however, is this. "Step into the light!" The woman yells. |

It wasn't exactly what she expected, but Chetri wasn't disappointed either. They were indeed what she thought they were, but here for someone else. It was abit of an inconvenience now, since being a witness, she already knew how this would go. She'd done the same for others when they observed her assassinations those few times she'd been spotted. Throwing the knife had been an act of generosity on her part. Purely to give this person a warning and a chance to run away, and she could retrieve her weapon later. Or at least, that should have been the reaction of anyone else. It was common sense. If attacked, you should get away from the area as soon as possible while still keeping alert for other ambuscades. By leaving the field afterall, you force them into a pursuit, or let it go, and it was alot harder to deal with a fleeing target. Unfortunately for her, this person was apparently not someone who thought under such common terms, and ended up complicating the situation. It was about time to leave. ... But that would be a luxury it seems, finding herself quickly confronted. It wasn't bad, being able to find her this quickly. She was one of the most skilled assassins turned out by her program afterall. Unfortunately, her opponent was also apparently an amateur in that regard. A knife swing at such close range in such a way was hardly efficient, and her own hands had already moved before her brain even finished processing the visual signal. The movement she saw was enough. The knife bit lightly into her hand as she stopped the swing, while the elbow of the opposite arm was already lunging for wherever the head should have been.

And the person, whoever saved her, did not step out. It is as if things fell into silent, and nothing happened. Kaede, the Miko, knew that was not the case, however. The water particles behind the tree was vibrating violently, as if someone was fist-fighting behind the tree. Fight? Or Flight? The woman's feet starts to move. She begins to run faster, faster, and faster. She needs to get away from the scene as fast as possible. Their target is she. If she starts running, whatever is targeting her will be moving away from the person who helped her, and continue to pursue her instead. The elemental... something seem off with it as well. It seems that the elemental, or the controller of the elemental, is not particularly trained in killing. The feeling that Kaede gets from the elemental is just too drastically different from what she has experienced from the past, in which she could still feel the dreadful glare of death when she tries to recall it. In other words, if she can handle this carefully, she may be able to deal with the person who sent the elemental after her herself. Kaede runs towards the exit of the park, and towards the direction of the water tower. As long as she's in range, as long as she's back in her territory, as long as she is back, she will be able to do something. However, as soon as she makes the move, all of the street-lights near her explodes consecutively, as if someone has shot all of them out. The glasses shatters and fall onto the Miko, who reflectively covers her head with her right forearm, her left hand still holding onto the scroll. When Chetri comes into contact with the shadow, she would realize that the shadow is unexpectedly light. Additionally, there is no bone. It is as if the man in front of her was a shadow, or a rubber man. One thing for sure, the man was not a normal human being. The man looks at Chetri, and pushes his forearm forward and upward, attempting to lock Chetri against the tree and strangling her with his forearm. At this point, Chetri would also realize that the man has no ... human feature. He is only but a shape. At the same time when the lights explode, the shadow that was fighting Chetri disappears into the ground again, and leaving Chetri and her knife behind. As Kaede runs through the shattered glasses, a hand suddenly appear from within the shadow behind her, and grabs onto her right ankle. Kaede, losing her balance, falls, the scroll almost leaving her hand. The girl quickly grabs the scroll back tight into her hand, and turns around to see what is behind her. Normally, she would have stood up and start running again, but the hand that grabbed her did not disappear. Instead, it began to grab tighter and tighter, as if it does not want to let go and instead wishes to drag the miko herself into the darkness. As soon as the girl turned around, she saw the shadow again. The shadow quickly presses its left hand onto the neck of the woman in an attempt to strangle the girl, its right hand holding a similar thick needle that was shot at her earlier. The woman quickly retaliate by holding onto the shadow's left hand with her right, her left hand grabbing onto the scroll tighter than ever. At the same time, she also could vaguely see, from behind the shadow, that the figure of a teenage girl is standing atop a building not too far away from the park. The figure is holding onto a glowing red- a pattern that outlines a shikigami. The shadow pulls its elbow up, and stabs down onto the girl, aiming at her heart. Another shikigami flew towards the direction of the park, this time towards the tree that the mysterious intruder's location. In the shape of yet another man, the shadow punches through the tree, and attempts to get to the person behind the tree. Whoever see this needs to be dead. The message is clear. It was a surprise when her elbow connected. It didn't feel at all like a skull or head of any thing she was familiar with, and it rapidly attempted a counter of it's own. Again, her opponent aimed for the throat, and again, she was ready to react, ducking just below and reclaiming her weapon. It was simple enough to wrest the knife free. Years of familiarity and training essentially made that knife close to an extension of her arm. Still grasping the blade, she twisted it out of his hand and quickly reversed her grip.... ![]() ..The blade caught empty air as the assailant disappeared, just as the various lights burst around them. ... It was abit of an unusual situation, but she had some experience fighting unusual enemies. A puppet perhaps, similar to the marionette she'd fought before. But it probably wasn't them, nor was it anyone from her old group. They'd have known better than to be so predictable. Further, she didn't seem to be the primary target, which meant it was mere witness cleanup. That was abit of a complication. Though she'd picked this area as a possible battlefield within which she could adapt, she didn't plan on using it to deal with an outsider. But there wouldn't be much time to consider that. ![]() Nor much choice apparently. Her body snapped and rolled to the right as if on instinct just as the tree behind her burst apart. She stopped on a knee and readied her knife in her left hand, while the right seemed to reach around behind her... |

The shadow that attacks the tree disappears as soon as the girl is forced out to the light, and to the eyes of the miko. For a second, it is as if the chaos have completely disappeared in the park. That silence was, however, only for a second. The shadow man emerges again, this time from the shadow of the younger girl, with a dagger-like shadow matter in his hand, pulling his elbow back and stabs down at the back of the girl's neck.... Kaede's left hand releases the scroll, and as soon as the she lets go of the scroll, a bird shaped elemental is summoned. The elemental dashes from midair, and hits the hand of the shadow elemental from the back and towards the right. It is slightly too late, however. The needle still stabs into the body of the miko, just about 1 inch from the shoulder joint, and a few inches above the heart. The needle is now also not stabbed straight, but in a slight angle. In a way, it is a lucky escape, but it is also much more painful. Kaede closes her eyes tight when the needle lands on her shoulder. She almost let out her voice when she felt the thick needle in her flesh. Yet, years of pain endurance has trained her not to make a sound. She could also feel that her muscle has tore from the needle, and the strength that she was using to hold onto the elemental is quickly diminishing. The bird flies to the right fist of the miko and splits into six solid water orbs around her right fist, and fires off rapidly as bullets at the shadow man's face, one after another. The shadow seems to have been taken aback by shock, that it didn't even get to react to the water bullets that was fired off at it. The face of the shadow crushed into bits, as the body of the shadow disappears into bits and pieces of shadow in the surrounding. The right limp of the woman quickly falls numb, and the arm falls uselessly onto the side of the woman, as she pulls out the needle from the wound, and quickly covering the wound up with her left hand. The blood streams down the back of her left hand, as she quickly stands up to stay alert again. This will take much more than her own power to heal. Kaede picks up the scroll with her now-weakened right hand, and grabs onto the scroll with her left hand. Thank goodness she has a sleeve on the important item. She then looks forward again, and sees the elemental that is trying to hurt the girl, who seems to be the person who saved her life at the first place. "Watc-" She yells, before the shadow stabs down with his shadow elemental-ed weapon. |

![]() The flash of gunpowder burned for less than half a second, exposing her face for just a moment. For a split second, the night was as bright as daylight. A loud crack tore through the air, not entirely unlike the sound of a whip in full swing, and a 125-grain lead-and-copper projectile zipped by just under the speed of sound. |

"BANG!" The sound of a gun rang in the park, loud and crisp. Kaede looks at the girl by surprise, and notices that the girl is now holding a gun. Her eyes bewildered, as the shot of bullet seem to also open the clouded, black sky for the way of a ray of sunshine. The shadow elemental, with a hole in his head from the gunshot, stared at the girl, and slowly dissolves into the darkness that is slowly fading away underground. The girl who was watching the scene from afar also disappears, as the shadow begins to disappear. Kaede looks as the shadows disappear. They were saved by the sunlight, probably. Or maybe by the fact that this girl had a gun. Either way, she was saved. She struggles to keep her composure. She pulls out the needle that was stabbed deeply into her shoulder, and used her right hand to cover up her wound. At the same time when she uses her power to attempt to cure her shoulder, she straightened up and walked towards the girl who saved her. "... T-thank you for saving me," She begins, not quite sure whether that's the correct words to say. It doesn't seem like the girl has any ill intention against her, but she doesn't seem to want herself revealed as well. Even now, she couldn't quite read the facial feature and the expression of the girl, since the lights are not completely in the scene yet. She could tell approximately how she looked, but not exactly. |
