"What is this, are you scared? Guess you're not so brave when you're all alone and lonely now, huh?" He continued shouting into the air, egging the thing to come at them out of anger. Of course, he's not sure if that thing could even understand human language or if it hears inter-human communication as mere garbled noises and statics. But he kept at it anyway, sending out another provocative sentence with a few swear word included. But he seems to be wasting his breath as not a thing reacted with his taunt, except for the woman.

According to her, the monster seemed to be smart enough to opt for something a bit more tactical than their first assault. Going guerrilla now, huh? That's troublesome. He's nullified its chance to ambush them by deliberately going out into the open, but now it's less of a game of survival and more of a game of patience. NOT HIS STYLE. Kinda. If this goes on they're going to have to stay in the cold for the rest of the night hunting some gray Hulk-Dog thing that never appears.

And to counter its ambush technique, she suggested that they ambush it the moment it ambushes them. It's like a circle of ambushes. He's got the gist of it. All he has to do is make it look like he's the perfect target to be ambushed while they will wait for the chance to ambush it when it ambushes them. ... Got it, right?

Blargh. Anyway, upon hearing her suggestion, he gave her a smirk with the similar mischievous aura and a glint in his eyes. Then, "Oooooh, but really? Isn't it boring to have to WAIT to do a double-ambush? I'd rather go SEARCH for it," And so, he went ahead, hopping about the whole streets poking his head into INCONSPICUOUS DARK PLACES that DOESN'T LOOK like a good place for any MONSTER to HIDE and AMBUSH ANYONE THAT COMES NEAR IT.

Adele's lip curled up in reply, her expression of distaste plain to see. Not only was this boy over-eager for what could very well be a dangerous situation for him, he was also cocky and rude. It was perhaps because he was so similar to herself a few years ago that she disliked him so, grudgingly forced to stick by his side for the time being. She had to admit, he had quite the tongue on him though, not at all backing down. In fact, his encouraging of the beast seemed only to be gaining at the moments ticked by, an eloquent stream of profanity finally working its way into his catcalls and jeers.

"Oooooh, but really? Isn't it boring to have to WAIT to do a double-ambush? I'd rather go SEARCH for it,"

He understood the gist of what she was saying then, more or less. Clever boy. She didn't reply, merely following him as he began the arduous process of poking his nose into every shadowy nook, every shady cranny, and generally every place he didn't want it to be. There was nothing for the longest time, only silence greeting their failed attempts. Excellent, just how she wanted to spend her night. Stuck out in the dark with some high schooler who had a snarky attitude and a penchant for violence.

Their snooping and relentless plodding eventually paid off as the boy led the way around one corner in particular, Adele's gaze wandering back behind them in case the creature had decided to sneak up on their backs. While there was nothing behind them, nor ahead, there was most certainly something above. The monster's presence was announced by a bass rumble, the meaty thrum of it's throat as much of a warning as they were about to get. In one moment the air overhead was clear and then in the next it was full of who-knew-how-many pounds of snarling, mottled hide, the canine monstrosity leaping off the roof and plunging down towards them.

The noise was what alerted Adele to their plight, the woman throwing herself sharply to the side and under a nearby awning as the beast slammed into the pavement with a heavy jolt, hardly even stopping in it's continuous stream of movement, the jarring thud of the impact perfectly timed with the coil and bunch of the muscles under gray skin. Even with her pistol ready there was only so much time she had to snap it up, somehow managing to fire of a round into its foot, the beast kreeling in protest but unwilling to slow. With two targets before it the best option seemed to go after the smaller and younger of the two, manic eyes swiveling towards Izumi, saliva trailing in a grotesque arch from its parted jaws. Now they were getting down to business.

Okay. He knew the thing isn't going to jump out from behind a dumpster or crash out of the window right next to him. Because the real trouble here is that the thing is huge. There's not much place where it can go about hiding AROUND them. But above them, now that's a different story altogether. Somewhere on the roof, or simply latching itself on the wall. As long as it's above them, there's no way they're going to be able to notice it unless they expect it to come from above whilst expecting it to jump out from one of the dumpster.

Well, he did expect it to come from above. But he didn't expect it to happen so suddenly like that. One moment he was poking a trashcan with his foot, next moment his leg jerked out of surprise, accidentally kicking said trashcan a good ten meters away. How come? Because a thunderous boom occured right behind him. RIGHT BEHIND HIM. Imagine having a bomb exploding right behind you. That's how shocking it was. He turned around just in time to see the woman lodging a single bullet into the mutt's foot with a loud bang ringing from the gun. It's really incredible that NO ONE had woken up from the commotion.

The mutant refused to go down, even after being shot. There was a slight pause in action as it began sizing up its opponent. Who to eat first, the gunslinger woman, or the brat under the hood? In the end it decided to go for the smaller one. In a single swift movement, the mutt crouched and launched itself right at Izumi, the latter caught completely by surprise.

Not wholly, though. Seconds before they made contact with each other, he had both his hands raised up as though holding up an invisible wall that could prevent the mutt from touching him. Kinda stupid, don't you think? Well, not if there really WAS a wall right in front of him. Within the split second before they collided, a large three meters diameter magic circle materialized right in front of him, shining a very clear yellowish-brown. The Physical Barrier acted as a very strong wall, completely stopping the advance of the beast. But he didn't come out unscathed. The wall might have stopped it from having its teeth sunk into his flesh, but the total momentum was transferred through the wall right at Izumi, causing him to be knocked backward a fair distance deeper into the alley.

"So you finally came, huh?" He said scathingly, recovering quickly from the fall. Now he's pissed. Time for some payback. Two area in the air in front of him glowed a bright yellowish-brown, and two thin glowing brown disk with scriptures materialized out of thin air. It suspended in mid-air for a moment before he snagged them. He then spun himself around on the spot, and threw the hard and thin disk at the creature like some circular saw blades.

Everything was moving too quickly to comprehend and properly deduce, the creature before her one moment and gone the next. Where it had gone was no small wonder, having decided to launch itself at the smaller human of the two, apparently reluctant to be shot again, not that she blamed it. Some distant part of her noted the ichorous blood that spattered the pavement behind it, the only true testament to the wound she had managed to give it. Even a bullet through the foot hadn't so much as slowed it, though, especially as it threw itself with reckless abandon towards the boy.

Even as her pistol rose, trying desperately to get a clear shot, something stopped the monster from digging fangs into the boy's flesh in an almost comical manner, almost as though there was an invisible barrier between the two. Fangs and lolling tongue scrabbled at empty air, met and stopped cold by some impenetrable force even as the creature's momentum continued to carry it forward, throwing the two of them back down the alley without much more thought. A steady stream of curses rising under her breath Adele scrambled after the pair, hurriedly trying to align herself for a clear shot. She didn't want to shoot the kid, after all, not really. He was doing a good job of distracting the monster.

Thankfully the kid still wasn't without surprise, especially as a pair of discs materialized seemingly out of thin air with only an ochre flash. Adele suppressed a faint snort of amusement, wondering what else the boy before her still had up his sleeves. Hyakuji was certainly turning out to be amusing, that much was certain. Before her, Izumi had thrown the two spinning discs with what she could only assume was a substantial degree of force, hurling each at the beast. Still a sufficient enough distraction, good. Even though the first disc missed the monster, snapping through the air uncomfortably close to Adele's shoulder, the second hit its mark, digging into dense flesh and earning a yowl of pain from the beast.

That was as good a chance as any, a trio of bullets from the Italian woman's gun hammering into the monster's back and shoulder, the haunting howl flooding the alley bleeding into a kreel of pure pain. There was no way it was escaping now, that much Adele was sure of, especially as it stumbled, nearly falling, a spattering of gore cascading from open jaws even as its fiery eyes flicked between the two of them, apparently torn between who to finish off before the life fled from its heavily wounded frame. Jaws parting in an incoherent gurgle, it took a stumbling step towards Adele before seeming to think better of it, head swiveling to stare hungrily at Izumi, torn between prey. Breathing coming in heavy, labored rasps, limbs trembling, it crouched for one final leap, one final attempt at vengeance before death overcame it. The question merely became one of who would finish it off first, Adele's pistol rising in preparation for the final shot, waiting a few moments to see if the boy would like the honor...

Izumi eyed the pitiful figure of the crippled creature with cold eyes. Its weak. Its dying. He could finish it off by just thinking about it. Just a single thought. All it takes was a little bit of guts, a little bit of courage, a little bit of desire to kill...

Kill...

You're not thinking about killing the poor little thing now, are you?

Why not?

I mean, look at him. He's all weak and defenseless.

So?

You've never killed anyone before.

So?

You can't kill it... can you?

...Of course I can. That last one, I killed it.

You didn't. You never intended for it to die. You never killed it.

It's true. He can't kill it. Even when he already had a giant magic circle encircling the creature, glowing a dim red, just waiting for him to flood in magical energy into it, the order never came. Izumi stared directly into the monster's flaming red eyes, his own expressionless and bored. If he doesn't kill it, it's gonna kill him instead. This is a battle of survival. It's kill or be killed.

... Since when has he ever thought through things the normal way before?

The dimly glowing glyph under the monster flickered, and faded away, leaving no trace of there ever being anything scrawled on the ground whatsoever. He pulled on to his hood, hiding his eyes further and turned around, muttering, "I'm bored,"
