Another town, another job. That was Adele's first thought as the train pulled into the station, rattling to a sluggish halt. The duffel bag above her head tilted precariously, leaning farther off of the rack than it had already been just moments prior. The woman hardly noticed, though, her gaze fixated pointedly on the scene rolling by outside the window. The town, whose name escaped her, seemed pleasant enough, not that it mattered. Picturesque in fact. Lush countryside, a bustling downtown, you name it and this city had it. It was the kind of place that practically screamed cozy in a sickeningly saccharine way, where everyone delivered you a friendly smile and a greeting, which you in turn mangled because Japanese was hardly your first language. She simply hoped she was traveled and learned enough to not insult anyone by her some deplorable inability to speak the native tongue. The lady operating the snack trolley hadn't seemed to appreciate her gestures and crude demands in the slightest. A soft 'thud' startled Adele from her reverie, the woman spinning abruptly as the duffel bag hit the floor at long last, somehow managing to split open and send an assortment of clothes, toiletries, and unused rounds skittering across the floor. Her curse was quick and eloquent as she crouched down, surreptitiously stuffing everything back into her bag right as the train ground to a stop. A high whistle cut through the air as the train announced the departure, Adele hastily stand, attempting to stuff the sleeve of a shirt that was hanging out of the bag back in just as the door slid open, a harassed-looking woman gesturing imperiously for her to exit. Adele was polite enough, merely smiling and nodding as she slipped past the other lady, padding down the narrow hallway as quickly as possible, not wanting to linger. Even though she was hardly the oddest or most exotic individual on the train she preferred to not attract attention, getting out as swiftly as possible, glad that she had decided not to bring an extra bag. The other passengers were crowded around the bottom of their car, retrieving the extra luggage as the Italian woman made her way past them, hiding a curt smile as she did so. Yes, most definitely glad she wasn't there for that stampede. The first order of business was finding a place to stay. No, scratch that. Food first, everything else later. Stomach growling encouragingly she glanced about, not bothering to look at the signs of the various venues that dotted the facade of the train station, instead looking for something that looked familiar. Ah, that. That had to be a cafe, judging by wrought-iron rails, the heavy scent of coffee perfuming the air, and the puffs of steam issue from behind those whom she could only assume were baristas. No matter where you were, coffee was coffee (give or take a few ingredients) and she was most definitely in the mood for something familiar. Besides, she could use a little pick-me-up. Slinging her duffel bag more comfortably over her shoulder, Adele slipped into the cafe, glancing about curiously until a waiter accosted her and led her over to what appeared to be the only empty table in the entire cafe. Her server was a cute little thing, obviously a local, and Adele blessed him with a wink and a crooked smile as he set the menu down on the table before. She almost laughed aloud as the subtle social ques returned a blush from him and a quavering inquiry, no doubt asking what she wanted. Thankfully the menu had little images, however crude, besides each item and she quickly and confidently pointed out what she could only assume were edibles. Pastry and coffee or whatever the steaming mug was. The waiter nodded and gathered up the menu immediately, shuffling quickly away as though he could escape her, completely oblivious to her rueful grin and lingering eyes. Nah, he was too young anyway. And besides, she was here on business. |

'Such a dull, dull, dreadfully, mind numbingly dull day.' After waking up that morning in his room in the Yuki dorms he had tossed the small place looking for something to eat, but he couldn't find a damn thing. It had been pass time to got get some groceries with class being so soon and even his other deadbeat room mates didn't have anything they felt like sharing. 'Jerks.' As Daiki had started putting on his lame uniform he had already come to terms with going to class on an empty stomach but that seemed to be unavoidable at the moment. Tightening his freshly tied tie he stood at the full length at the foot of his bed and just looked at himself for a few minutes. The clean pressed pants, white shirt, and Tie didn't go well with his scruffy curtain of hair in front of his eyes and his well worn Addidas. Slowly as he stared at himself some more a frown started to cross his face and only increased as a feeling in his gut started throbbing and climaxed in a huge rumble of his stomach. Daiki turned away from the mirror as his frown had deepened so bad he worried the mirror would break from the expression. As he slowly walked around the room and collected up his things for his day and put on his blazer and left the Dorm at the same time as his well fed roommates. The Gates of Shin Hyakuji was bustling with his fellow students and faculty late getting to their own classes. Daiki had stayed behind as his room mates had gone beyond the gate on the way to their homerooms and was fighting a mental as well as physical war. His stomach was under heavy artillery fire from deep emptiness and feel like a division of infantry were on the way as well, in his head he knew that he could remedy this quickly. Their were plenty of shops, stalls, and quick marts around to sate his hunger , but did he really want to incur the wrath of the fearsome faculty of his school. 'Screw them, I'm hungry.' with this simple reasoning Daiki turned around and started walking back toward the town. The weather was nice enough though that he thought that flying around would kind of ruin it. After walking around most of the town and eating at food stands here and there though the only thing he could say was , ' Screw the weather.' Daiki had flown to his last stop on his day off. With classes letting out soon he should get back to his dorm to meet back up with those lame room mates and find out what he had missed today, but first he wanted to hit a cafe he had heard about. They were supposed to have the best Strudel around. He had been wanting to go for awhile but every time he went after school it was always swarmed with classmates who bought them all up and were very annoying. As he sat at one of the outdoor Kiosks at the train station cafe he was waiting for one of the staff to get back. It had been twenty minutes. They guy had said that a new batch of strudel would be out in no time. Daiki reached behind him and groped around for the pocket of his blazer which he had placed on the back of his chair. Finding what he had been looking for he pulled out his pack of cigarettes and placed one between his lips before flicking open his lighter and lighting it. 'That guy better come soon.' |

The waiter was certainly taking his sweet time about her order, Adele's stomach rumbling with increased urgency. When was the last time she had eaten, after all? She frowned faintly, attempting to remember her last substantial meal. That would have been...Australia. And that was very nearly two days ago. Between then, she'd only had airline peanuts and those dubious little packets of trail mix to sustain her. Yes, she was due for something good to eat then. Her bored gaze flicked up, scanning the crowd intently, searching for something of interest. All around her were cheery faces and a constant stream of babble that was, for the most part, unintelligible to her. Occasionally her ears would pick up a snatch of conversation, but those were fleeting and far between. Stifling a yawn, Adele's roaming gaze finally found something of interest and latched onto it. A boy considerably younger than her sitting detached and distant from the rest of the crowd, looking bored and rebellious, at least of what she could say. He had those shaggy dog bangs that covered his eyes, perpetually hiding him from the outside world. Cute kid. Looked like he gave less of a crap than most of the people around. Perfect. It was right at that moment that the waiter returned, looking flustered, balancing a tray of coffee on one arm and a platter of strudels on the other. With a smile that showed far too much of her eyeteeth, Adele graciously leaned forward and lifted her coffee and pastry free, receiving a weary nod of thanks. It was when he had just begun to turn away once again that her arm darted forward, lifting another of the flaky pastries from his platter, the waiter non-the-wiser. A contented smirk on her face, Adele slapped down more than enough currency to pay for the food items and pushed herself away from the table, weaving her way through the crowd with expert ease to where the boy was sitting. "Hey there kid. Anyone ever tell you you need a haircut?" Not exactly what one would call a standard greeting but hey, Adele rarely did things the same as everyone else. Without waiting for a reply she plopped herself down on a seat besides him, unceremoniously tossing the strudels on the table before her, sliding one towards the boy in the process. She didn't speak for a moment, taking the time to scrutinize him more intently from over the rim of her coffee cup, sipping delicately at the scalding contents, a look of mild bemusement on her features. He had to be one of the students from the academy here, that much was obvious, though she knew little more than that. After all, this town was just another job, albeit a very well-paying one. And one that would end in blood. Another sip of coffee made of her mind, Adele setting the mug back down on the table and sliding it towards him, the edges of paper money poking out from under it. "So, kid," she began slowly, cupping her chin in fingers laced together, "You know this place pretty good, yeah? Well, I'm here on...business. Actually, just call me a tourist. I need someone to show me the town and I pay well. You up for that?" The smile on her face was as charming as any other, though it wasn't the sort that reached her eyes. Those remained close, fixed on the unknown element before her with an intensity more befitting of a hawk watching her prey, unflinching and unblinking. After all, who knew how long she would have to be here until she was told who her target was. |

Daiki had pasted from annoyed to bored and from bored to finally sleepy waiting for the damn waiter. With an exhale of smoke he crossed his arms and leaned back a bit in the metal frame chair. One good thing about having such long bangs was no light could shine in your eyes and keep you awake. Sitting quietly Daiki slowly slipped into a silent slumber with the cigarette clenched between his lips drooping low and was soon dreaming. He was flying. Flying seemingly like usual , but instead of using his powers a pair of long wispy wings propelled him through a cloud filled sky. It was really paradise, he pulled off many turns and dives with just a few flaps from his new wings. Then out literally from the blue sky a great dark storm cloud arose. The cloud was so huge it blotted out the rest of the sky all around trapping him. Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, and the dark clouds closed in around him. Just as it seemed like there was nothing he could do to leave this horrible place a perfect split appeared in the section right in front of him. A flood of light poured through the veil of darkness chasing it back to pit from wince it came and from the on coming light he saw a shape coming closer. It started vaguely human shaped but as it came closer the details increased until it stopped a few feet in front of Daiki. The shape was a woman and she was perfection incarnate. Being unable to tear his eyes from her he just stared and he bright skin and the even longer wings that sprouted from her back. Strangely though the figure didn't have a face. Not being deterred Daiki reached out and just he was about to grasp her hand he awoke with a small startled yell. When he had yelled he had dropped his cigarette which had almost burned down to the filter into his lap, but he really could've cared less at the moment. Across from him a woman had sat down at his table we coffee and his strudel in tow. Food was also not on his mind as he looked at this new woman. It was obvious she wasn't from around here and sure as hell not Japanese ,but had an exotic beauty about her. Even as she slid a coffee mug toward he he didn't even notice while being so entranced toward her. She probably couldn't tell with his hair like it was ,but a slight blush was coming to his upper cheeks. Just then she spoke to him.
Daiki would have helped the woman out even with out pay but as he noticed the money under the mug she had slid forward. he extended a finger and the mug rose into the air and move to his hand where he took a sip of the hot coffee. With his other hand he pointed with another finger and the money rolled itself up and flew into his dress shirt pocket. Lowering the mug he only said one thing. "Sure" |

For a moment Adele wondered if he was even all there, the nearly-gone nub of his cigarette still hanging lifelessly from his lips, faint wisps of smoke coiling turgidly through the air. No, he was awake if his jump was anything to go by, the Italian woman stifling a laugh at the reaction. As comedic as his somewhat abrupt awakening from whatever reverie he had been in was now was most certainly not the time to snub what might be her only link to the town. She could almost swear there was a blush flushing his cheeks but brushed it aside. Must have been his hair. "Sure. His acceptance of her terms was just as she expected, but how exactly he went about that...not so much so. Adele couldn't stifle her own blink of surprise and mild furrowing of her brows as the mug levitated into the air, hovering there for a few moments before drifting towards his beckoning fingers. She was still watching, dumbfounded, as the money likewise rose off the table and darted through the air like a hummingbird to rest in his breast pocket. Now that was most certainly...something else. Huh. Adele was no stranger to odd occurrences and rare individuals, being one of those herself, though her ability tended to be less conspicuous for the most part. In her days of working for the wrong people, she had come across talented people, though for the most part they had been deployed as bodyguards or other mercenaries, often times older than she was. She hadn't seen a boy like this flaunt power so nonchalantly in public before, especially of his age, and was beginning to realize that this town may have been a bit more unique than she had originally thought. She had the sinking feeling that things were about to get interesting. And in her line of work, interesting was rarely good. "Excellent," she replied tersely, unable to keep some surprise from coloring the tone of her voice. She reached forward for the mug he had just set down, taking a long sip and very nearly draining all of the remaining liquid. Only a thin film of coffee remained, swirling with with the bitter dregs of the beans, her unease enough to put off her appetite and keep her from eating more. She pushed her own strudel towards him, standing slowly. "So...what's your name again? You can call me Adele," she added, tilting her head slightly to the side and beaming at him, "Care to tell me what this town's about? Don't see too many people who can lift coffee cups and money with their mind." At least that was what she assumed her was doing. For all she knew it could be air manipulation or some other fancy trick, but that was neither here nor there. There was pertinent information to be learned, after all. |

Even as Adele pushed the delicious looking strudel toward Daiki the bottomless hungry that had compelled him to even come to this little cafe was gone. Instead a new feeling had replaced it. Deep in his gut Daiki felt a slight heated tingle, strangely enough he had never quite felt before. As he stared at the coffee mug in the middle of the table where but he and Adele had taken a sip. With another flash of hair disguised blush he came to a realization was that was the closest he had come to a kiss with a beautiful woman. Even though he knew he was kind of jumping to conclusions but he couldn't help like this mysterious Adele. Snapping out of his state of bliss Daiki rose out of his seat to get a better view of her and look into her eyes as he answered her question. "Watanbe, Watanabe Daiki." Pointing to the side of his head. "I have telekinetic powers. I can do a lot of stuff, but there are way more powerful folks around this time." |

"Watanbe, Watanabe Daiki. I have telekinetic powers. I can do a lot of stuff, but there are way more powerful folks around this time." "A pleasure to meet you, Watanabe Daiki," Adele returned, tilting her head briefly to him. She continued a moment later as custom dictated, returning a name with a name. "I am Adele De Santis. I'd prefer if you call me Adele," she said smoothly, sticking out a hand to shake with him. She didn't want the kid calling her 'Mrs. De Santis' or something horribly formal like that. Not only did it feel wrong, it also made her feel considerably older, something that she didn't particularly need. She was still young, after all, and about the only thing along those lines that she'd care to call herself was 'experienced.' Their exchange was starting to draw a few curious glances, bland eyes watching them over the rims of mugs, conversations gradually dying off to incoherent mumbles. First rule of the business: Never draw attention to yourself unless you wanted it. She reached down to sling her duffel bag over her shoulder, still a bit terse as she gestured to Daiki to follow her, wasting no time in weaving her way through the maze of tables and out of the cafe, coffee mug still in tow. They wouldn't really miss it, so why couldn't she borrow it? She might even return it before she left the town after her job was done. Once they were some distance from the cafe Adele returned her attention to the boy, fixing him with a critical stare. "More powerful folks? Care to elaborate on that?" A statement like that rarely boded well, especially when one referred to it with such utter nonchalance. What was this, some sort of town meant only for the gifted? It sounded like a bad joke, like some copy of Xavier's School for Mutants or whatever it had been called in those old X-Men comics she'd used to read as a child. A place for freaks and monsters to coincide, either training to take over the world or live in harmony with all the normal people. She didn't really care much either way but there was definitely more to this town than met the eye. |
