Chizu hesitated for only a moment before tossing the box of brand-name bandages into her basket. When it came to first aid in a situation like this, she couldn't afford to be stringy. Besides, she reminded herself, if she overspent, Damon and Nickle would cover for it. She would hate it and would hate herself for making them do it, but they would anyway, and no matter how much she loved being independent, she was forced to admit that knowing that gave her a small amount of security. She sighed and ran a hand through her hair, thinking over what she was doing again. Aether and Kaito, working together, had finally managed to find the modern day town that had once been the home of the members of her bloodline. It had a shrine at its outskirts (assuming Aether and Kaito had found the right place), that supposedly had a portal to another dimension that nobody knew much about. Her father had fallen into that portal during the duel with Kaito's father. He could be alive, he could be dead, but either way, she was going to rush in through the same portal and see if she could find him. It wasn't much of a plan. In fact, it was probably an incredibly stupid plan. But she would do it anyway, no matter how stupid or dangerous it was. What really bothered her was the fact that her friends were coming along for the ride, and they were counting on her to have a better plan than "let's rush in and fight stuff while trying not to get killed." If she had her way, they would stay at home. But she knew that nothing short of chaining Damon and Nickle to the Elemancer Tower would stop them from coming with her. And Lavender-sensei? She wasn't stupid enough to try and tell Lavender-sensei what she could and could not do. She looked down at her basket, glancing at the grocery list in her other hand. Food and things like that could be bought in the town they were going to, but she was packing a few things just in case. The first aid kit needed some refilling, which was what she was doing now, and she had also purchased a lot of spare batteries for her flashlight. Having an electromancer with them would help, but Chizu liked to err on the side of caution. |

"Somebody get their ass kicked?" Spike asked as he saw Chizu tossing some bandages into her basket full of first-aid supplies. He couldn't help his brash manner of speaking even if he did respect his senpai. He felt a bit disappointed if he'd missed a big fight, even if he'd had a couple of his own. Spike had been hunting for some cheap food-stuffs since he was low on cash, but he got distracted when he noticed Chizu gathering her supplies. He couldn't help being curious. Especially since she had said she didn't do things like rush into stupid fights, and he assumed her friends didn't either. |

"Someone's about to," replied Chizu without even looking up. She rubbed at the back of her neck, trying to release some of the tension there, before turning towards Spike. It seemed that she really couldn't get around Hyakuji without running into the people that she knew. She hadn't realized until now just how many of Hyakuji's people she had become familiar with over three years, and how many more people knew her but had never actually spoken to her. "I'm going on a trip for a bit," she explained. "So you'll have the whole school to yourself." The last sentence was said with a small grin towards Spike as she turned, walking down the aisle and scanning the shelves at the side for more things she needed to bring. She was referring to Spike's continuous statements that he would "take over the school", whatever that meant. She glanced back at her list. Chizu was sure she would forget something, and it would probably come up at the worst possible moment too. "Try not to mess it up too badly." |

Spike chuckled lightly at her comment that he had the school to himself. Like she was the thing stopping him from 'taking over the school.' Hell, he understood that more than a few people in this school could take him down. He could always take advantage of her being out of town though, couldn't he? He wondered how many people would come out of the woodwork if he did do something. On the other hand he didn't want to miss what was about to happen. "Where ya' headed?" It sounded like Chizu was planning to start a fight. Getting first aid stuff and saying someone was getting their ass kicked. It didn't seem like her as far as Spike had seen, so he couldn't help wanting to know what was happening. Spike had been kinda bummed when he thought he missed something, and well, he wanted in, though he doubted Chizu would invite him along. Wasn't like that would stop him from showing up. |

Chizu frowned, recognizing the tone of Spike's voice. Should she tell him? She really didn't need somebody else tagging along on this thing. Most of the people she had with her could take care of themselves, but she already had Setsuna to think about. She didn't want to endanger more people than she had to, and if she had her way, she wouldn't endanger anyone at all. She'd show up there with Kaito and if he turned out to be lying, "conveniently" push him off the nearest cliff. "I found out my dad might be in trouble," she finally said. "So I'm gonna go try and get him out of it. If he's still alive, anyway." The last part was more for her than for Spike. She was trying to get herself used to the idea that she might end up finding her father dead after all of that. It wasn't a nice idea, and it certainly wasn't one that she wanted to think about, but it could very well be true. She pulled something else off a shelf and tossed it into her basket, realizing that she hadn't exactly given Spike much of an answer. |

OoC: No problem. Mine's not much faster Spike nodded, accepting it as if he had been answered. As usual Spike wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed. Her dad was in deep shit, if not dead... That wasn't good at all. But she was going to kick some ass and take care of it, then everything would be fine. After all Chizu was strong. As the reality struck him he looked at her. Was she trying to leave him behind... He supposed that to her he probably seemed weak or something, but... He wasn't gonna get left behind in this. It was serious and even if she thought he wouldn't he would help with this. "Well, I'm in. No arguing, a'right?" Spike didn't even have an energetic grin on his face when he said it. He had decided he was coming along so as far as he was concerned that was that. Chizu had no choice in the matter. |

"Hell no." The words left her mouth barely a second after Spike said he was going with her. She looked up at him, frowning. "This isn't a field trip, Spike," she said. "I don't know what kind of stuff we'll end up facing, or if it'll turn out to be normal or even human. I don't know how many there are, and if there's any chance that my dad's still out there. And I've already got my roommate to watch. I don't need more people." The moment she said those words, she knew that she had made the wrong choice. They implied that she saw Spike as just something else to watch or protect, and whether it was true or not (which, to be honest, it was), it would make him even more determined to go with her, to prove himself. She knew it because it was the same reaction she would have had if someone had told her that in her freshman year. Chizu resisted the urge to facepalm, turning away and scanning the shelves. She really needed to learn to think before she opened her mouth. |

Spike sighed. So he was someone who needed watched... Well, that was probably true, wasn't it? After all he wasn't shooting lasers or anything. But if that sort of thing had been enough to put him off then he wouldn't have declared him intent to follow her to begin with. He'd have just followed her. "You might think I'm just some cocky punk looking for a thrill miss Chizu, but I ain't. The odds might not be in your favor and I might just be an extra load but if you go in like that you're already fucked. So just quit it with the whiny attitude." Spike sighed. She could at least decide that she was going in to back up her old man, even if she was just lying to herself. "And I guess you feel like it would be your responsibility if anything happened but it would be my own fault. Anyways, I'm coming whether you agree or not." He wasn't lying, though he wasn't quite sure how that would work... It might come down to just following her until she left. He decided he was coming with her so he was. |

Chizu whipped around in spite of herself, placing a hand on her chest. "I'm being whiny?!?" she asked angrily. The response was reflexive--a throwback to the days when Chizu had been nothing more than a whiny crybaby with something to prove. She paused, realizing what she had just said as she stepped back, lowering her hand and looking away. Okay, maybe she was being a little whiny. But she didn't need Spike's blood on her hands. She turned towards him, recognizing the look on his face. "Shit," she said. "...You're really serious about this." If he was just joking around it would be possible to get him off her back, but the idiot was actually determined to come, no matter what she said to him. Just like Setsuna. She almost missed the days when she was unpopular and nobody would want to come with her. Now, though, she wouldn't be able to stop Spike from coming with them. "We're leaving tomorrow morning. Meet us at the train station. Pack for a couple of days." she said, her shoulders slumping resignedly. |

Spike jerked back when Chizu whipped around at him, but then she finally broke and told him when she was leaving... Assuming she wasn't lying. "I'll be there." He patted her shoulder, then glanced outside. If he was meeting them in the morning he should probably leave now. He had to wash some pants if he didn't want to look a mess to her friends. "I'm sure everything'll work out." And with that he turned away from her and headed toward the counter with a cheap cup of noodles in his hand. He'd head back home and eat his supper for now.
