One does not simply eat one packet of mee goreng

Within the hustle and bustle of Downtown Hyakuji, among the people walking about with their kids or parents, carrying plastic bags full of trinkets and decorations, children bounding about in their thick scarf and sweater, kicking up snows along the way, adults peering through the windows of the shop, pondering the best present to give their sons or daughters, Santa in his trademark red sweater, white beard and big midriff greeting anyone who passed him "Merry Christmas!" That's a long-winded description. Well, focus away from the general crowd and let's turn our eyes to someone more specific. Inside one of the shops, stands a boy in his black sweater, holding up in front of him a silver oval locket. He's not usually the type of person who would go out buying lockets and all, but this is a special occasion. And for this special occasion, it wouldn't hurt to waste a bit of his fat paycheck. Would it? Even then, he wouldn't know what to buy. Stumped, he turned around to his 'more experienced at picking gifts' companion, holding up an evil-looking red-eyed 'Godzilla' plushie for him to see, "Oliver? Where are you? Do you think Robyn'll like this?" |

Oliver sighed heavily as he eyed it.. "A woman is still a woman even if she's Robyn.." He said looking at it. "It's likely she'd find something like that cute but wouldn't admit it.." He walked over to the shelf and plucked the locket from him. "Hurm... For Robyn...?" He said eying the locket.. "Or perhaps for Aki..?" He said eying the boy to gauge his reaction. It would be pretty obvious to see his leanings with just a small amount of provocation.. Kids like Seth were easy to read.. Oliver was in a long sleeved shirt that hung loose with a coat over it and a muffler wrapped around his neck. All of it was coordinated colors between blue and black. He even had a blue and black striped beanie on pulled down over his ears. He wore thick jeans and boots with metal buckles that strapped just below his knees. He blew into his long fingers heating them with his breath. His violet eyes and violet hair against the dark clothing made him look very visually interesting. Compared to Seth he looked practically like a model in terms of fashion sense and more feminine-while-still-attractive looks. However the expression on his face was one of mild annoyance and an obvious desire to not be bothered. As such he didn't seem to be drawing any outside attention from passing girls or other shoppers. Even if he was handsome he was still Oliver... Not exactly a charming individual unless he wanted to be. But today he just wanted to be home. Shopping for gifts was always a pain in the ass.. People had such odd expectations.. Edited by Cypriss, Nov 28 2010, 01:15 AM.

“Eh, nah. I already got one for Aki,” Seth replied to his question, completely oblivious to the provocative intent. He slid his hands into his cargo pants pocket, taking out a shining silver antique pocket watch, attached to a two foot long bronze chain. Turning it over, the back was, at first sight, completely devoid of any cover, showing the inner mechanism of the clock in plain view. But if one looked closer, it was actually covered with glass. “It’s a bit expensive, but I think I could handle fasting for a few days,” He said, grinning as he put the pocket watch back where it belonged. “I guess I’ll take both for Robyn,” Taking the silver locket back from Oliver, folding the chain carefully around the locket to avoid scratching it, and brought the locket and the ‘Godzilla’ plushie to the counter to be paid. But before that… “By the way, Jameson said you’re going out with Quinn, whoever that is. Aren’t you buying something for her?” Edited by Fin, Nov 28 2010, 09:30 AM.

Damn, he hadn't reacted at all. It looked like one outlet for fun was gone. However he'd bought her present first and ealier... Perhaps there was a little meaning to that? Even so the boy was too oblivious to catch his meaning.. for now he'd step away from that subject. "Heh.." Oliver laughed dryly at the boy. "Would I?" He said idly. "Who knows.." He turned from the boy and eyed the selection of goods. He moved along the aisles at all of the... stuff. It was somewhat disconcerting to look at it all. What in the world would they like.. what did they want? He just wasn't sure about anything like that. "A locket might not be best for Robyn... How many pictures do you think she has? And who do you put in there? Yourself? Her? Usually a locket is for lovers but she doesn't have one.. or for family and if you do something familial it might open an old wound... I'm just saying though.." Oliver said eying the merchandise while tucking his hands deeper into his pockets. This was exactly the problem.. people all had such specific wants and needs and yet we were all supposed to buy them something suited AND different from everyone else.. Oliver stopped and pulled down a small music box for the same price as the locket before tossing it over his shoulder towards Fin. "It's feminine but not girly... and she'll love it.." He said standing with a dull look.. What a pain in the ass.. |

"WAH! Hawawawawa-!" Seth's hand flailed around, juggling the music box in the air after it was thrown. Wait, you're not supposed to juggle it. You're suppose to catch it. Catch it, catch it, WAH! YOU MI- Snag. In his panic his hand shot out without him realizing it, snatching the music box with three fingers, just a few inches above the ground. He looked at the successful rescue, sweating a slight bit. Of course. Break it, considered sold. And he couldn't have been more grateful towards V. Urgh. What a pain in the ass. V muttered in his head, tossing the box upwards for Seth to catch it. He caught it, alright. But his face was less than thrilled by his amazing reflex. Rather, he felt downcast as he stared at the music box, said by Oliver to be a better gift than the locket. "Sorry to put you through all this," He said apologetically at Oliver, holding the music box with care. "It's just that... I'm not good at this. I wanted to give everyone the best of gifts... but I don't know what they want..." Once again, he glanced at the recommended selection by Oliver and the locket he just picked. Of all the members of the Agency, Robyn was easily the most introverted. And the hardest to approach, let alone to get along with. To Seth who was the complete opposite, this proved to be extremely discomforting. He wanted to get her something to break the ice, but as proven, he's completely inexperienced in picking gifts. Hence why he's very glad to have Oliver with him. "Thanks Oliver. You're a big help," He said with a sincere smile, the kind that could tame even bears, before turning around to the counter to pay for all three (yes, including the locket and the Godzilla) of the items. Which turned out to be a big mistake. Checking his wallet (new one), he only had enough money to buy presents for the rest of the members. Guess he would have to search the trash again for tonight. Jameson, Oliver, Ayato, Crow, Fuu, Jen, Now, who's next? |

Oliver eyed him before exhaling slowly. "It's fine..I don't mind.." He said idly, not too terribly worried about having yo be here. Even if it was a pain in the ass it wasn't something they could avoid forever. They were all going to be exchanging gifts so he had to get out and BUY the gifts sooner or later and it wasn't a bad idea to do so now rather than waiting until the last minute to handle it.. Besides, it felt nice to be out of the office at the very least.. Oliver slowed, hands carefully dug into the fabric of his pants as he looked across the room towards the door and the other stores.. "Well Jameson is easy.. A new fedora or a pair or gloves.. that guy would be over joyed at some socks. He just likes being given stuff.." "For Crow.. Padded gloves, bandages, boxing gloves.. anything for fighting and athletics.." He said going down the list.. For Ayato it was weather resistant chalks with an oil base.. For Fuu it was cute panties or stockings.. "Uh.. .For me.. Don't bother." Oliver said planting his hands in his sides. "Since you basically saved my life I don't feel you owe me anything.." He said scratching his neck awkwardly. That was as close to a thank you as anyone could hope to get from Oliver. He wasn't exactly an open sort of guy. Edited by Cypriss, Nov 28 2010, 12:30 PM.

"Okay, then. Let's get shopping! Eheh~" ~~Timeskip~~ "Well, that's it then," Seth sighed satisfactorily, in his hand a large plastic bag full of gifts for everyone. As advised by Oliver, he bought a pair of leather gloves and a box of tissue for Jameson, a fifty kilograms dumbbell and a pair of boxing gloves for Crow, half-a-dozen boxes of weather resistant chalk for Ayato, some books about some advanced scientific stuffs for Jen, a bundle of cute new panties for Fuu (don't ask how they managed to get those), and, though Oliver was defiant, Seth bought something for him anyway. A water-proof silver wristwatch, with the small initials of O.Z.W. engraved at the side of the watch. "Thanks, Oliver. I couldn't have done it without you," Once again he thanked him, carrying the heavy luggage with a slight difficulty. It's a good thing his wallet (new) had decreased in load. To the point of complete emptiness. Although, not sure if that's a good thing. Gurgle. What was that? Oh. That was his stomach. Walking around all day long looking for gifts for everyone wasn't exactly, what was it... easy. There's snow to tread through, people to push through, rivaling customers to fight against, and it completely drained him. "Eh... heh. How 'bout something to eat?" He asked Oliver, fully knowing his own wallet (new) was completely empty. |

Oliver searched around until he spotted a burger joint with external seating. He motioned for Seth to follow before he plopped down into a chair. Oliver sighed heavily sitting down with several bags of his own.. He leaned back in his chair breathing heavily.. This was exhausting.. He really felt like he'd worked beyond his physical limit. He motioned and one of the waiters for a nearby restaurant wandered over. "i'll have a coffee and a coke for the guy over there, then follow that with something greasy.." He eyed the menu.. "Chille cheese fries~! Two baskets.." He said eagerly before dismissing her. He had a guilty pleasure for burger joints... He brushed his hair back eying the boy with a sarcastic grin. "I see why you lured me out now, a moocher!" He said playing around, he didn't actually mind buying.. "well pick out a burger before she returns.." He said resting his chin in an upturned palm as he eyed the boy curiously... He was young looking if not actually all that young. He had a naivety that radiated outwards. He just seemed.. pure... He didn't seem scarred by a tragic past or forced into a mafia or dark in any way.. Of the WDA he and fuu were real anomalies.. "Listen... it's none of my business so tell me to shut up if you don't wanna tell but.." He glanced from the corner of his eyes away from the boy and towards the other people, trying to be casual. "Why would you join a group as dangerous and violent as the WDA..?". Edited by Cypriss, Nov 28 2010, 10:14 PM.

"Eh? Why would I...?" That question caught him completely off guard. He looked up from the menu he was was looking at and peered over to Oliver. Nobody has asked him about that question before (as far as he could remember, and he can't remember far). To be frank, it wasn't exactly the sort of reason he would like to share with others. Mainly because it involves the powerful virus in him. I don't care either way. Eh? Really. As long as you avoid mentioning me, I couldn't care less about what you say. Who cares about you? I might be strange to hear this, but he actually really does care about V (a little anyway). After spending so much time getting to know him, V seemed more like a real human than a parasitic virus. Besides, they're both stuck together. They have no choice but to care about each other. But really, this is nothing but nonsensical babble that has absolutely no connection whatsoever with the original topic. Now, to answer the question... "Actually, I had no idea at all that it's gonna be a violent and dangerous job. I thought it's gonna be some desk work with a little tour around the city and some investigation. Honestly, I'm really surprised that we had to fight against a mutant giant bat and all, eheh~" He said, scratching the back of his head and chuckling. He then lowered his hand, and sported an expression that he always use when giving some pep-talk to his sister, looking more like a older brother than a kid. "But I can't just leave everyone just because of the prospect that I had to risk my life every now and then. Well, I get attached to others really easily," He said, giving yet another laugh. "As for why I decided to join you guys..." He paused for a bit, sizing Oliver up to see whether he should tell him or not. ... Ain't that obvious. "It's something I'd rather keep to myself. Sorry, Oliver! Personal stuff, see," He clapped his hands together and apologized to him. Actually, it's less of a personal stuff and more of the fact that he doesn't want anyone involved in this. He had troubled others enough with his everyday trouble attraction that tends to drag everyone else around him together. Returning back to the menu in front of him, he quickly scanned the most bottom part and immediately locked his eyes to the biggest and most expensive burger they have. "I'll take this one," |

"Tch... picking the most expensive one." Oliver said with a twitch. "You're taking advantage of me..." He said with grit teeth as he eyed the menu. He flipped it closed before setting it on his menu and motioning the waitress over and ordering the two burgers. Afterwards he switched mental gears back to the conversation at hand. ..so that was his reasoning.. Well in a way Oliver could misunderstand that sort of misconception but even so it seemed strange that the boy had such a casual idea of what detectives did. Although Oliver might have been confusing t.v. detectives with real ones due to the insanity that they had faced so far. Even so detective work wasn't something safe to do. So what motivator could have driven him to join it..? He was even more curious now but he wasn't going to pry to much.. "it's just friendly advice but.." Oliver looked away resting his head on his chin while munching on chille cheese fries. "I'd quit if I were you.." He said casually. "It will only get more and more dangerous and you might face situations you regret later or that cause you sadness.." He trailed off before locking eyes with the boy. "It could even.. cost someone their life.." |

"Well, I'm not you so I'm not quitting," He said casually, chowing down his chille cheese fries with a look of deep satisfaction, losing his mind over the pleasure of having a proper meal for once. "I like being with you guys. I had lots of fun," He shoved yet another fries into his mouth, "I like Ayato. He's a bit mean sometimes but he's a really good person. Crow is so nice, but I wish he'd stop treating me like a kid... Jen knows a lot of stuff and she's fun to talk with, Jameson is like a brother, Fuu... Aki is very nice, even if she's a bit... and I wanted to get to know Robyn better." He paused a little as he slurped down the cola. Being with them had been quite an experience for the young boy. Oliver mentioned something about things getting more dangerous over time, and he would have to face the prospect of regretting joining the team. But he's not worried about that. Since... "I want to have fun with them. I don't want to live the rest of my life just... waiting to die..." At that moment, he smiled. But it wasn't the usual cheerful 'One Million Watt' smile he would usually put on. This one was full of sadness, the smile of someone who... "Ahah! Oh, really, I talk too much! What is this, when having a meal we should talk about something more casual! It makes the food taste better!" His eyes lit up again, forcing out a big laugh, trying to mask the gloomy interior he had been holding in ever since the time he met V. |

Oliver grinned a bit interlacing his fingers behind his head. "Man.. i'm surrounded by idiots.." He said quietly as he suppressed the grin on his face. Even if he said that it was nice to be surrounded by optimists that created a positive outlook even there seemed to be none.. How was it possible to so casually rush into things. Where they idiots or did they just see something he didn't? It was hard to tell but he couldn't help but admire them just a bit. Oliver leaned back in his chair munching on fires until his food arrived. "Okay.. you wanna talk about something else? Shoot. I'm game." He said intrigued to see what the boy had on his mind. He'd not really gotten to know any of the other members very well so he was glad to get to know at least one of them a bit more.. He felt a little distant in the office these days. What with Jameson having to split his focus eight ways and the others all were either incredibly annoying or viewed him as a womanizer. Not that he cared to much. He jsut appreciated the opportunity to at least get to know ONE of them.. |

"E-heh? Wait, I meant..." He stuttered around for words as Oliver aggreed to talk about something else. It was a good thing, except, Seth has to start the topic. His head was still full of his limited lifespan that he couldn't think of anything else to talk about. And when he was suddenly asked to bring up something to talk about, well, he's in a pinch. Why must you always get yourself in a pinch? "Urhm... I meant... uh... You're supposed to start first... Ah, man..." He fumbled around looking for something interesting to discuss. He's not the type of person to pry into other people's history, and, taking his own experience as a comparison, he's pretty sure Oliver wouldn't like it if people try to pry into his past (assumption). C'mon... topic... topic... "What's the best thing to give a girl as christmas present?" ... ......... .................. Wait... what? I was bored, alright? V said in his head, snickering darkly, seriously wishing there's a mirror nearby. "WAAAAAH!!! WAIT, THAT'S NOT WHAT I SAID!! ISAIDNOTHINGOFTHESORT!!!!" Seth yelled loudly, trying very hard to deny the words that just came out of his mouth. Oh, come on. Why do you have to go berserk like that? Not like it really meant anything. Yeah. Man, you really are a kid. |

Oliver blinked in dumb surprise as he suddenly began spouting off things like a crazy person. first it was to tell him how to shop for a girl then it was that he didn't say that or something. Oliver had somewhat known he was this sort.. The type whom was extremely shy. But even knowing it didn't make it any less shocking when he started having diarrhea of the mouth over gift ideas.. "First off.. calm down.." Oliver said cooly as he leaned back in his chair. "All girls are different so obviously things that work for one won't for another but there are a few rules that can help in any situation..." He leaned forward, slamming his hands on the table and suddenly shifting to an intense glare as he got completely serious. "First.... It's not about the gift it's about what the gift MEANS... If you ever ask the question 'What would you like for christmas' then you've already lost... People will naturally mention things they want or like in conversation. It's you job to remember those things.." "Or the alternative is finding her 'type' and attaching a suitable gift.. For a video game nerd maybe make them a picture out of post-it notes by hand of an 8-bit character! Even if it's cheap they'll appreciate the thought and time. A gift like that might be even more appreciated than an expensive one! Do-it-yourself gifts have a higher value but if you're dating they can come across as cheap... But for a girl you're interested in it's got to be.." "Tickets." Oliver said with a deadly glint in his eyes. "To a movie, a reservation to a game launch, a concert or something like that, it has to be tickets! First off they take time so you have the hand made effort bonus.. Secondly they require knowledge of the person's interest.. thirdly tickets are rarely so cheap as to come across as cheap but rarely so expensive so as to come across as too much... And the memories made there will be associated with your generosity as well so when they think of the fun they had it will be associated with you but above all that there's one more benefit..." "If they invite you to use the second ticket.. then you've got a chance at a date and it means they haven't completely shut you out into friends territory... it's got to be.. TICKETS!" He said standing and thrusting his fist into the air. "Men for decades have used this method! Tickets banzai!" |

Wow... "... Wow..." Hah! Now that's interesting to see! V exclaimed with gratification. This was definitely entertaining after a long walk doing nothing but watching two guys shopping for Christmas present together. Seth couldn't help but be surprised at this. The usually quiet and snarky Oliver suddenly becomes very lively and excited when talking about gifts for girls. He really is a womanizer. Not that Seth minded. After pausing for a slight bit Seth broke into a laugh, clearly amused by his change in personality. Of course, he kinda expected him to be an expert in stuff like this, but he never thought Oliver would actually have this much enthusiasm like the main character in a certain anime series. "-Ahahah! Oliver, where did you learn all those stuff, anyway?" Seth wiped his eyes. He was having a hard time trying to stop laughing. So even the lone wolf Oliver has his own quirk. Perhaps he runs a small group, working as the leader under the nickname 'Love Master', Seth thought wildly, picking up his gigantic burger, compressing it and swallowed one-fifth of it in one bite. Yup. His life is gonna be fun. |
