"No, unfortunately didn't see anything. I was a bit upset at the time and the room is blocked from view from the other rooms.." He said in a meek voice...

~~~~
The next witness/suspect was the ex-wife. She was a bit overweight but not fat. Her features showed her age but there was a softness to her expression. She seemed very much like a grandmother if just a bit young for such a title.
"Hello girls.. i'm not exactly sure how I can help.. I was watching our children at the time and didn't see anything.. I heard my husba.. my ex-husband making a commotion went to check in on him and by then the note was gone.. I really just have no clue what happened.."
He paused for a moment holding her hand to her chin as if contemplating something before looking to them. "Is that all you need?"
"Wooowwww... A dining room! Your house sounds nice Mister president." Jen narrowed her eyes apprehensively as her gaze scrolled over to Fuu's notebook, where the village girl was taking down notes in the form of... design sketches for lingerie. "What's it like to live in a nice house~?" The village girl asked dreamily, eliciting an awkward giggle from Jen.
"No, unfortunately didn't see anything. I was a bit upset at the time and the room is blocked from view from the other rooms.." the president replied meekly, and it was around this time that the purple-haired detective-in-training decided it was time to move on to the next witness/suspect.
"Come on Fuu, let's move on to the next witness," Jen commented as she took hold of Fuu's right hand to help the village girl to her feet. Before they left the president's office, Jen turned around and bowed to the president with her arms by her side. "Thank you, oji-san, for taking time out of your busy schedule for this interview." That being said, Jen put the fedora back on her head before leaving the president's office with Fuu.
The two girls soon found the president's ex-wife, a woman that was also late into her middle ages, and like most women her age, it shows that she was getting on in her years from the fact that she'd gained a fair amount of adipose tissue - although it was somewhat natural for a woman her age, not exactly someone you'd consider "fat" or "obese". There was a certain softness to her expression, giving her a somewhat grandmotherly look.
"Hello girls.. i'm not exactly sure how I can help.. I was watching our children at the time and didn't see anything.. I heard my husba.. my ex-husband making a commotion went to check in on him and by then the note was gone.. I really just have no clue what happened.." The elderly woman paused briefly, her hand on her chin as if in contemplation before looking at the two girls. "Is that all you need?"
"There's one thing I'd like to know, oba-san," Jen began, her hand taking hold of the brim of her fedora and removing the hat. "I was wondering... what kind of person do you know of your ex-husband as?" the purple-haired girl asked. "Is he the sort that has enemies, or tends to make enemies or in some way or another give someone a reason to blackmail him?" Having exhausted her options on how a thief might've gotten into the house if s/he wasn't inside to begin with, the next phase was to figure out the kind of connections the president has with the other witnesses/suspects. Perhaps from his personal life, Jen figured she might be able to glean some clues.
And all the while Jen was talking, Fuu was swinging the girl's left hand, up, up, and higher into the air! "Eheh~! --hem, I mean, so... How old are your kids, Mrs president's ex-wife? Are they like... you know..." She let go of Jen's hand, if she'd let her, and squatted down near the ground holding her hand up to Jen's knee, "this old?" before swinging her hand up over her head and at Jen's waist level, "Or this old?"
Taking a moment to straighten up, she pulled out her notes from.... the back pocket of her hot pants because she HAS pockets you know.
"Take your time to think about it, ya~" She chimed while swaying back and forth before realizing something. Gasping and pulling out her tank, she took a moment and peered down into there. Looking up and appearing a little wide eyed, she turned to Jen and whispered, "Well this is embarrassing, buuuuuut do you have a pen?"
Small objects always took a while to get back out from her secret compartment.
The woman blinked before laughing. "Uhm.. One is eight, the other is five.. They're both adorable.." She said fondly. She turned to the other woman. "Erm... No. My husband was always a good man. He had his faults but he never seemed to be cross with anyone.. in particular.. Although.." She paused before lowering her voice.
"He was in an argument that day with the vice president.. I'm not sure what it was over but they seemed to be going at it. That's when the cleaning lady entered the room. The vice president was so upset he knocked her over and stormed out of the room to cool his head.." She leaned back in her chair. "Is that all?"
"Uhm.. One is eight, the other is five.. They're both adorable.." The aging woman replied whilst laughing at Fuu's question, and judging from the tone of her voice and how she mentioned her children as 'adorable' - it was clear that despite being divorced she and her ex-husband maintained a good relationship, what with her visits on her ex-husband and children and all. "Erm... No. My husband was always a good man. He had his faults but he never seemed to be cross with anyone.. in particular.. Although.." The president's ex-wife paused for a while, lowering her voice as Jen removed a ballpoint pen from the pocket of her trenchcoat and passed it to Fuu.
Meanwhile, Jen took down the notes on the president's ex-wife on her PDA, making points on her disposition and relations with her ex-husband and children. However trivial these details seemed, Jen would miss out on none of them, knowing how everything can eventually prove useful. After all, why else had she saved forum discussion threads dating as far back as 2003? "He was in an argument that day with the vice president.. I'm not sure what it was over but they seemed to be going at it. That's when the cleaning lady entered the room. The vice president was so upset he knocked her over and stormed out of the room to cool his head.."
Jen nodded thoughtfully at the account given by the president's ex-wife. Now here they have a lead! "Is that all?" she asked as Jen stood up to adjust her fedora.
"Aye, that would be it. Arigato oba-san!" Jen bowed before placing a hand on Fuu's shoulder and massaging it gently to coax the village girl to get moving. "Yosh! Come on, Fuu-chan, next up, the VP!" The purple-haired girl declared jubilantly as she pointed in a random direction.
Fuu let a small "awwww~" slip out as the mother replied, clasping her hands together. She accepted Jen's pen in her hand, whispered a small "Thanks~" as they spoke, and then, went back to just holding her hands together and staring at the ground.
Noticing the plesant weight on her shoulder, Fuu looked up and responded to her friend's enthusiasm which could have been on par with Jameson's.
"Gosh, I really need to go to the bathroom as well, but you being so happy about it is really giving me the heebie jeebies, ya know." She said, standing up and walking in the direction Jen was pointing in without question. "I really hope we figure out the president's case in time today, Jen-chan." she'd said in a voice heavy with concern, facing Jen as she caught up, "cause.... I got an assignment due tomorrow!"
The way she said it made you wonder if she'd even started it or not.
The next one in was the well dressed and calm Vice President. He walked in slowly and took his seat, stretching out with a sigh as if this were all the greatest annoyance to him. He wore and expensive suit and nice shoes, a gold watch and generally had an air of being a wealthy and important man. Even more than the president had. One could say he had put on airs..
"So what do you need to know, exactly? That I walked into a kitchen to hear my boss ramble about a note that doesn't exist? This is all so rediculous.." He said with a frown as he looked away with a groan. It was very obvious he had no interest at all and was not being nearly as cooperative as the others...
"Gosh, I really need to go to the bathroom as well, but you being so happy about it is really giving me the heebie jeebies, ya know." Fuu commented as she rose and walked off in the direction Jen had pointed in, which for all intents and purposes led straight into a wall, and the village girl looked as if she would walk right into it had Jen not stopped her, as the purple-haired girl rested a hand on Fuu's shoulder and turned her about, smiling as she pointed to the doorway. "I really hope we figure out the president's case in time today, Jen-chan. Cause.... I got an assignment due tomorrow!" Fuu's voice was rife with concern.
"With our combined forces, that' be a jiffy!" Jen replied, before stopping to knock on the door to the vice-president's office, waiting briefly before being allowed in. The vice-president was a sharply-dressed man, wearing what appeared to be a very expensive business suit and designer label leather dress shoes and a gold watch. Compared to the president, his second in-charge appeared to carry himself with that stuffy high-class air that made himself seem like a very important person, and an insufferable one as well.
"So what do you need to know, exactly? That I walked into a kitchen to hear my boss ramble about a note that doesn't exist? This is all so rediculous.." The vice-president asked disdainfully, not even bothering to look at the girls.
"Oh don't worry sir, we're from the WDA and we'd like your assistance with our investigation. According to the president's ex-wife, she said that one the day the president received the note you had an argument with your boss," Jen began. "But she said that her ex-husand wasn't the type to go around crossing people... so I was wondering do you and your boss have a tendency to disagree on most matters?" Jen asked.
As the Vice President spoke, Fuu looked at her friend with the most surprised eyes, "The note doesn't exist after all!" She gasped, whispering underneath the man. "We better listen to this fella and tell Jameson-kacho it ain't nothing but a wild goose chase!"
She blinked at the amusement park's 2nd in command. Despite his standoffish demeanor towards the girls, Fuu seemed unable to read between his words. He was more well-dressed and less sweatier than the president had been. So according to her, what was there not to trust??
"But she said that her ex-husand wasn't the type to go around crossing people... so I was wondering do you and your boss have a tendency to disagree on most matters?"
It was a good question Jen was raising. Fuu had to check her notes to double-check herself that was what the ex-wife had said -- despite it happening mere minutes ago. She looked up at Jen, wanting to help with the investigation but didn't realize her next words would stick a foot in her friend's efforts.
"Gee, d'ya reckon the big P would ever try to butt heads with the VP? I mean you saw him! He looked like such a pushover! Eheh~!"
"Hurm..." He shrugged a bit laughing. "What a horrid shrew, trying to cast me into suspicion....?" He said with a distant gaze towards the table. He interlaced his fingers and pursed his lips. "Let me say this then.."
"Whether or not we argued often is irrelevant. The truth is that on that day we did argue. But the thing we were arguing over was that I wished to cease paying her a portion of the park's profits that she had gotten as an original investor. She had long since sold her shares of the company and it was the president's method of supporting her out of sympathy. However in these harsher economic times we can't simply dole out our money in a reckless way... I didn't want the president taking the hit to his wallet.."
He leaned back and smiled. "So you see if anyone DID threaten him it would be her, right? She had the most to loose.. not me." With that he rose to his feet and looked towards Fuu. "You're right that he's a pushover but the one pushing him around isn't me..." He said planting his hands on his sides. "If that's all then I'm leaving.." He said firmly before marching towards the door.
"Well, thanks for your help," Jen replied after the vice-president was done speaking his part. So it there were some disagreements between the president and VP after all - despite being divorced the president continued to offer financial support to his ex-wife by cutting her a dividend from the theme park's profits due to her status as one of Doki-Doki Land's original investors, combined with her visits to the president and her children, it goes to show that relations between the president and his former spouse remained good, and the purple-haired detective was inclined to rule out the ex-wife as a suspect. Until the VP told his side of the story.
Still, it was two persons' accounts as opposed to one, but who was to say that the president was only speaking good about his ex-wife due to coercion from the woman's part? Which the VP seemed to believe was a suspect in this case. So far, Jen came to two possibilities, one being that the VP was trying to get his boss to cease his financial support of his ex-wife, possibly going so far as to resort to blackmail. Or that his ex-wife was aware of the disagreements between her ex-husband resorted to blackmailing the president into not caving to the VP. However, she wasn't about to come to a conclusion without exhausting all options, which still left them with one more person...
"Come on, Fuu-chan, one more target to go." Jen beckoned to the village girl as she straightened her fedora before referring back to her notes on her PDA phone. "I say it's time we paid the president's housemaid a visit... I'd be very interested to know what she was doing when the note disappeared."
"holy gourds, that man sure was nice!" She commented spritiedly as he left, letting Jen and that new information marinate for a moment. Only when she spoke did Fuu look up at her.
"House-keeper, Jen-chan~ They don't like to be called maids..." Fuu spoke in a patronizing tone of voice and "straightening" Jen's fedora back to it's original lopsided state. "I like it better this way, eheh~" She grinned, bouncing up to her feet. "Plus it looks more trendy, ya! .... So! You think the housemaid took the note after all?"
Fuu spun around, putting her notepad and Jen's pen right down her shirt and into the deep dark abyss that was where she kept her funbags, before placing both her hands on her hips as she faced her purple haired roommate, classmate, best-friend AND colleague.
"Cause you know.. The VP said it would have been the ex-wife who had anythin' to...." She paused, remembering that Jen's hunches hardly ever proved wrong. And besides that... She was the smarter one out of the two! After all, people in hyakuji highschool even said it! They always called Jen the "smart one" when referring two the sophomore and freshman duo. "Okay~ So lets go talk to that maid, Jen-chan~"
The last person entered. She was an older woman with a slight frame and an unimposing aura. She seemed to be somewhat nervous but not nearly as much as the president. She was nervous in the way that said 'am I getting fired?'
She sat in the chair as she eyed the girl. She smiled formally. "H-hello.. i'm the housekeeper for the president.. He asked me to speak to you all about the incident a few days ago...?" He glanced down. "I don't know much.. He called us in there and sounded very nervous. But he didn't see the letter anywhere. At the time we had no choice but to call the police and then move on. There was no proof anywhere of the incident.."
"Er.. n-not that I tihnk he was lying.. Because you see.. I did notice one thing slightly askew. I only noticed it today when I was cleaning.. Just inside the window was some topsoil from the garden outside... I think maybe someone used that window!" She said with a frown.
"Holy gourds, that man sure was nice!" Fuu commented after the VP left. Jen would have to agree with Fuu on that. On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being not nice and 5 being very nice, the VP scored 5... negative 5, that is. "House-keeper, Jen-chan~ They don't like to be called maids..." The country lass commented with a patronizing voice when Jen mentioned the housemaid, before taking Jen's fedora and readjusting it back to a tilted position.
"I like it better this way, eheh~" Fuu flashed Jen a grin as she bounced back onto her feet, while Jen merely folded her arms across her chest and chuckled. "Plus it looks more trendy, ya! .... So! You think the housemaid took the note after all?"
"I would've preferred a rakish tilt to my hat yes, but only if I'm going for the Spaghetti Western theme, but right now I'm going for the 50's crime noir theme... but if you liked it so much I'll keep it that way then," Jen replied, giving Fuu a smile. "Well, and there's still a possibility that it was a mere accident that the note disappeared. The housemaid could've disposed of it unknowingly... so, let's hear it from her shall we?" The two girls didn't have to wait long before the housemaid who worked at the president's home was called in - an older woman, much like the president's ex-wife but sporting a slighter build and unimposing aura. The woman carried herself with some nervousness, but not as much as the president, appearing as though she might be called in because she was about to be fired, or something along those lines.
"H-hello.. i'm the housekeeper for the president.. He asked me to speak to you all about the incident a few days ago...?" Like any housemaid worth her salt, she was polite and formal in spite of her nervousness as she took a seat and faced the two girls. "I don't know much.. He called us in there and sounded very nervous. But he didn't see the letter anywhere. At the time we had no choice but to call the police and then move on. There was no proof anywhere of the incident.." So the note was already gone by the time the housemaid entered the dining room, after the president. And so it seemed that their investigation was about to run into a dead end, until...
"Er.. n-not that I tihnk he was lying.. Because you see.. I did notice one thing slightly askew. I only noticed it today when I was cleaning.. Just inside the window was some topsoil from the garden outside... I think maybe someone used that window!" The housemaid shed a vital clue, one that could potentially take their investigation in a brand new direction. Jen raised an eyebrow at this revelation; things were getting more interesting at this point.
"I see..." Jen nodded. "Was anyone in the garden before the incident then? Like you know, was anyone lurking outside the house or something before the president found that note?" she asked.
The woman's eyes widened in surprise as the strange question. "No, of course not. The president is wary of strangers near his home.. anyone is. He would have gotten upset if there was a strange man lurking outside.." The woman said as she was prompted. "He has children, you see? It wouldn't have been good. But yes there was no one outside when we came home or when the others came in. So I'm not sure that the potted soil being in the house means.."
