See first post for picture Yuki House was, of course, familiar to him. He had never lived in it, but he had visited it a few times while he was a student here, and not all for sinister reasons such as keeping tabs on his (then) target. He had, in the beginning of his school life at Hyakuji, had something a little like a social life, even if it was built completely around a false persona that he adopted for himself. He doubted anyone would still remember him. But he remembered them. He made his way up to the second floor, almost hating himself for the fact that her room number, like so many things about her, was still firmly burned into his mind. It was hard to believe, looking back, how far he had gone to ensure that the Yamamura name, a name that had meant only blood and death and pain to him growing up, ended here and now. What was probably more remarkable, and more fortunate, was that he had failed. And most remarkable of all, he still lived to tell about it. He paused in front of the door, hesitating for just a moment. Chizu had let him go, but to say they had parted badly would be an understatement. His shoulder seemed to burn again with phantom pain at just that one memory. She wouldn't be happy to see him now. But he had come far enough, and Chizu was an enemy he could face. And fight, if it came to that. He paused and knocked on the door. |

Another end to what amounted to an exhausting (albeit rewarding) day of school. Even if it was a bit lonely after school, she'd started falling into a daily routine of sorts that was both comforting and much less stressful than it had been when she'd first arrived. Of course, calling the gym classes Hongo-sensei put them through anything short of stressful would be the first symptom of some kind of insanity. Setsuna was a bit perturbed that she was starting to get into the swing of living in such a weird place, but it was far better than the alternative of not being able to deal at all. Regardless of whatever happened, Setsuna could always count on going back home to her dorm where she typically received a respectable greeting from Quinn (when she wasn't out with Oliver) or Chizu-sempai (when she wasn't out...doing whatever it was Chizu-sempai did when she was out). Truth be told, her older roommate had always been a bit of a mystery, but she was much too scary to question like that. And anyway, Setsuna trusted her enough to know it was something totally good. She reached the top of the stairs and stopped for a moment, staring at the ground before she sighed and wiped a weary palm across her face. "You've got to get a life, Higashi." She whispered as she made her way down the hall. Reaching the door, she took off her headphones and tucked them gently into her leather burgundy mini jacket (she was going for a theme this week). So far it had ended up looking pretty good, but Setsuna had been nagged all day by the sneaking suspicion that there was a little bit of suede in her supposedly 100% leather jacket. However, before she could get any closer, it looked like someone was standing there already. The magical girl cocked her head a bit. She didn't really recognize the boy from school and he looked a bit older than most of her classmates. Quinn already had a boyfriend and so did Chizu-sempai... "Hey, um... can I help you? I live in this dorm..." She said shyly. Whomever he was, he was pretty cute. It seemed almost unfair that all the other girls in her dorm seemed to hog all the good-looking guys. Since she didn't know him at all, he definitely wasn't there for her. Edited by Dominique, Nov 15 2010, 04:42 AM.

Kaito looked up as a girl entered his field of vision, a frown on his face as he studied her. She was obviously a student at this school, with violet hair and eyes whose color he couldn't quite place. She looked younger than him and Chizu, if only slightly. A freshman or sophomore? The way she carried herself, looking up at him and then looking away...likely insecure. In the brief moment that their eyes met, he managed to absorb a small fragment of memory, although he was unsure what the memory of her putting on the leather jacket she was buying was going to prove. He filed it away into the corner of his mind in which he tossed all useless memories, glancing from her to the door. Chizu's roommate? Or had Chizu moved to a different dorm? He thought this was the number he had seen in Nickle's memory, but memories faded with time and were never as clear as the actual event. Facts could be misunderstood easily. "Is this Yamamura Chizu-san's dorm?" he asked, keeping his tone cool and even as he watched her. |

Setsuna was practically squirming in her skirt as he seemed to stare at her pretty straight on. This guy didn't seem to have any shame at all! She knew from the start she was going to pay for offering to stay in the co-ed dorms, what trickery had inspired her to make such a bold move like that? Setsuna turned slightly to glance at him sidelong, attempting to avoid direct eye contact with his stern expression. Whoever this guy was, he seemed like a pretty serious person and he definitely hadn't come looking to take someone out. Unless he really had and one of her roommates just preferred serious guys...Her ears perked up suddenly as he asked about the dorm and about Chizu-sempai. Setsuna sighed and cooled herself off using her hand like a fan. It figured he was here for sempai, he was too old and too mature for her or Quinn. "Yappari..." She said, a bit disappointed as if she'd have any idea what to do with a guy like that if she had one anyway. "Yes, this is Chizu-sempai's room, I'm her roommate. Setsuna Higashi, it's nice to meet you. I'll see if she's in..." she said, cautiously stepping around him to slip inside the door. Before closing she turned and looked him in the eye a bit. "I'm sorry, I almost forgot to ask your name! Are you a student here? I don't think I've seen you around, but then I'm a sophomore and this is my first year here so what do I know, right?" She giggled nervously, clearing her throat as he didn't seem to react much. Boy this guy was pretty high strung, no wonder she was dating Nickle-sensei instead... |

Kaito stood there calmly as the girl--Higashi--babbled on. He didn't show any impatience on his face. In fact, he didn't show any emotion on his face whatsoever. He felt, somewhere inside him, relief. He had found the right dorm. Underneath all of that, though, was a dark undercurrent of fear. He had come this far. What would happen now? Would she hear him out, or were the next few minutes of his life about to become extremely painful? Chizu would not kill him. He knew that. He had given her ample opportunity to, the day that they parted. He had stood there in front of her, presenting her kunai to her by the hilt, and had told her that she could take his life, if that was what she wanted to do. He would have stood there and let her kill him. She didn't. She had snatched the blade out of his hand and called him an idiot, then thrown the kunai into the lake. "There's been too much blood," she had said in explanation then. And shortly after..."Just get out of my sight." She wouldn't kill him. But the human body could endure quite a lot of unpleasant things. This girl...Higashi...she revealed too much about herself in just a short amount of sentences. Kaito was used to people like that--they often proved useful when it came to getting information--but he didn't like them very much. His eyes flicked towards her for a moment as she spoke. In a short amount of time, he knew her name, that she was a sophomore, that she was a new student at Hyakuji, that Chizu was her roommate, that Chizu was somebody that she respected, and that she was easily unnerved. If he wanted to, he could do a lot with that information. But he didn't need to, not anymore. "No, I'm not a student here anymore," he said. "My name is Kaito Asakawa. Please tell Chizu-san that I have some information for her." Now or never. He hoped Chizu would at least hear him out. |

"Ah, really nice to meet you Asakawa-sempai! Er, Asakawa-san...kun? Eh...erm, nevermind I'll be right back!" Setsuna quickly disappeared behind the door, shutting it neatly behind her with a click. Leaning with her back against the door she took a deep breath and sighed. That guy didn't make her nervous in the traditional sense, he was just genuinely scary! Someone like that would have stuck out like a sore thumb in Clover Town that's for sure. Cities like this sure were filled with interesting and weird people, but what did he want with Chizu-sempai? Setsuna slipped off her shoes, setting them gently off to the side of the landing, standing on the tips of her toes as her bare feet got used to the cold hardwood. He said he had information for her, but that was probably the most suspicious sounding thing he could come up with. It definitely didn't sound like any kind of proposition, so maybe it was related to Chizu's heroic stuff? She'd heard Chizu was involved in groups like the elemancers who were known for fighting off threats. Maybe he was just delivering a message! Setsuna scowled a bit, that didn't seem at all likely for some reason. "Chizu-sempai?" she called, weaving her way to her roommates door. Knocking on it gently she put her lips close to the door. "Chizu-sempai, it's Setsuna! Some really scary looking Asakawa guy is here looking for you!" She whispered harshly to avoid being heard by their visitor. "Please come out with me, I don't want to go back to him alone, he makes me really nervous!" |

Chizu looked up from her desk as Setsuna knocked on her door, a frown on her face. She had been working through some math problems, and like everything that had to do with mathematics, that put her in a mood. She sighed and ran a hand through her hair, getting up from her desk and walking over to the door. What does she want now? she thought to herself, opening the door. "Setsuna?" she asked. "What is it?" "Chizu-sempai, it's Setsuna! Some really scary looking Asakawa guy is here looking for you!" Chizu's eyes widened, the color draining from her face at Setsuna's words. Asakawa. No way. He couldn't be here, could he? She looked past Setsuna at the open door and sure enough, he was standing there, looking straight across the room at her. He had changed a little since she had last seen him. His hair was longer and a little messier, and he wasn't wearing glasses, but she would recognize that face anywhere. "Setsuna, stay back." She growled in her throat, her eyes narrowing in anger. Chizu rushed forward, her body a blur as she crossed the distance between them. Her hands closed around the front of Kaito's shirt, pushing him back as she flew past. There was a thud as Kaito's back hit the wall in the hallway. He winced in pain but didn't react. Obviously, he had been expecting something like this. "Bastard!" she said. "What the hell makes you think you can just come back here?!?" "Your father's alive," said Kaito, meeting her eyes. Chizu's eyes widened at that and she froze, her grip on his shirt loosening... |

Setsuna's eyes widened a bit as she explored Chizu's rather shocked expression, turning to follow her gaze to the door where the scary-eyed and unblinking Asakaway boy stood, waiting patiently for their return. Whoever he was, his appearance here seemed to spook her sempai to the point of turning a ghostly pale white. Just who was this guy to make someone like Chizu-sempai react in such a shocking manner? She'd always seemed fairly calm and collected and Setsuna suddenly felt her heart skip a beat nervously realizing how close she'd been to him. Was he really that dangerous? Setsuna felt the urge ask, but Chizu seemed locked on to his face pretty well and she opted instead to keep her mouth shut. The magical girl took a few jittery steps out of her way at the quietly forceful order of her roommate, a bit unsure of which one she was now more frightened of with the way she seemed to be reacting. "C-Chizu..." Setsuna opened her mouth slightly, only to yelp like a frightened dog with the boy suddenly pinned against the wall by a very angry high school girl. Whatever was going on, she was beginning to think she should have stayed at school a little longer... "Chizu-sempai, you're hurting him! W-what's going on?" Setsuna whimpered. It was often difficult for her to follow along when the bad guy wasn't completely pointed out to her. She knew Chizu was a good person and this new guy was sort of scary, but what could he have done to make her so mad? And mentioning her dad...Setsuna had never asked about her family, but it starting to look more and more like he'd come for a pretty important reason. Was this the sort of thing one called teachers for? |

Chizu ignored Setsuna, her red eyes hardening as she looked down at Kaito. He looked up at her, his expression unreadable. His brown eyes fixed hers. They were narrowed, but there was no fear in them. Instead, for just a moment there was a challenge. Would she really do it? Her fist clenched and she let go of his shirt with her right hand, pulling her fist back and sending it at his face. It stopped an inch from his cheek. He didn't flinch, continuing to stare at her with those eyes that saw too much. Her left hand tightened around his shirt for a moment before she took a deep breath, letting go of him and taking a step back. He exhaled. She almost thought it was a sigh of relief. He straightened out his shirt, the movement almost automatic. Chizu noticed that he avoided her eyes now. The challenge in his was gone. "I don't break my word," she said with a small 'hmph', shoving her hands into the pockets of the exercise shorts she was currently wearing. "...But if I did want to, I don't need to touch you to kill you." The last sentence came out in almost a growl as Chizu glared at him, her eyes narrowing briefly. A line of blood formed on Kaito's cheek. His eyes widened, and he raised a finger to it. It was a shallow cut, practically superficial. "...You've gotten stronger, Chizu," he commented. She shrugged. She really didn't want to hear that--didn't want to hear anything from him. Her shoulders were trembling, and it was all she could do to hold herself back. But what he said...She took a deep breath to steady herself, and inclined her head towards the door. "Inside," she barked. He followed her in, closing the door behind them. "You have ten minutes," she said. He glanced behind her, his eyes fixing on Setsuna for a moment. Chizu turned her head briefly to look at her roommate. "Whatever you have to say to me, you can say in front of her." "Sou ka..." said Kaito, reaching into his messenger bag. He pulled out a folder and handed it to her. His mouth moved. It might have been a smile. "You really have changed..." She dismissed the comment with a wave of her hand, taking the folder and placing it on the table. She opened it, revealing a neat collection of papers, pictures, and snippets of maps. She started setting out the papers on the table, making piles. Kaito moved over to watch her work. She kept her eyes away from him. "How did you find me?" she asked. "I asked your boyfriend." There was a slight accusation in those words. Chizu looked up, her face contorting into a scowl. "The hell did you do with Nickle?!?" she asked. "Asked him. Do you really think I could do anything to him if I wanted to?" She considered the question for a moment. "No." "Coryn?" asked Kaito as she picked up the paper on the top of the pile. "Missing. Probably dead." "I see..." he said. "I'm sorry." "Hmph...don't pretend." As the conversation was going on, the papers on the table would be easily accessible to Setsuna, if she wanted to pick them up and go through them. |

Setsuna's knees rattled like maracas in her legs as observed the escalating stand-off between her usually calm and all-together super cool roommate coming dangerously close to beating the living snot out of a guy. She herself was no stranger to kicking the crap out of someone that had done something bad, but that path had leaned to her learning a lesson at a steep price from that detective. Chizu didn't seem to show any signs of weakening resolve and slowly let go of his shirt as her angry hand clenched hard into a raging fist sent flying in his direction. Setsuna squealed aloud, closing her eyes to shield herself from the coming massacre. Inevitably though, no cracking of jaws was heard and the magical girl peeked out between her fingers to see her fist placed dangerously close to his face, but not close enough to injure him. The stranger on the other hand seemed unsettlingly calm. It had scared her this much just to WATCH. From the way he'd been acting since they'd met all the way until he'd had a VERY angry fist thrown in his face Setsuna was forced to conclude he was carved from stone. Which would probably explain that chiseled jawline and rock-hard figure..doki...doki... Not now Higashi! "C-Chizu you can't kill someone in our dorm room, you just can't!" She yelled abruptly. Of course, Setsuna had an objection to killing in general, but when it came to doing it in the room where she was supposed to do homework and sleep the memory of a corpse laying in the doorway would likely prove to be too much. She'd need all the dead bodies she needed to for a lifetime and they'd driven her out of her last home too. Releasing a long breath as the tension seemed to go out of the room, Setsuna merely waved nervously at their visitor as she was mentioned in passing. She was beginning to think more and more that leaving the room might be a good idea. But in the interest of not leaving her alone with this extremely suspicious guy (and not the least bit thanks to a burning curiosity) the magical girl remained. Like a tennis audience member, Setsuna's head bobbed back and forth from Chizu's face to Kaito's as they spoke back and forth with every sentence going further and further over her head. Nickle-sensei wha-- Coryn who? Who's dead?! Why is someone dead?? Setsuna's eyes fell on the small vanilla-colored folder sitting on the table. She didn't recognize the photo or anything written about them. The way everyone was acting, she opted to take the safe road and keep her hands away from it. |

Chizu picked up the first sheet of paper, her eyes moving over it quickly. She was standing in a way that Setsuna could see the paper over her shoulder if she wanted to, although whether or not she could read all of it would depend on how close she was standing. It was a photocopy that seemed to be coming out of a book, and it was written in Japanese, in traditional right-to-left, top-to-bottom format.
As Chizu read the note, her hands began to shake slightly, gripping the piece of paper so tightly that it began to crinkle and tear where her fingers were holding onto it. Kaito watched her, no change in his expression. He waited until she collected herself, her fingers slowly stopping their tremble. "This is..." she said. "Mm," said Kaito. He folded his arms. "...It's an entry from my father's diary. I found it while I was going through the attic. After doing some research and comparing that page to older entries, I discovered that my father fought your father at a shrine. Apparently, the shrine has had quite a few reported disappearances, as well as several deaths. According to legend, the Shrine contains a portal that links this world to a parallel universe." He hesitated for a moment, staring down at the table. The other papers and pictures from the folder, most of which simply restated what he was saying, had been forgotten. He expected as much. Chizu would only need to read the top sheet. "Some texts identify this world as eien no sensou no kai, the world of eternal war. A few legends state that time flows slower in that realm, although they vary on how much." He looked up at her. "It's clear that my father did not kill your father when he expected to. Whether he's alive now or not, I don't know. But I've spent this time searching for answers, and I believe I now have a solid lead as to the location of this shrine. I could have a location for you within the next 24 hours, if you're interested. Are you?" Chizu didn't reply, staring at the piece of paper in her hands as if she couldn't believe it. Her mouth was dry, she couldn't think. For all this time, she had believed she was alone, that her entire family was dead. To be given this hope...and at the moment, that was all it was...she didn't know what to do about it. |

Inter-family drama, murder most foul and a chance at patriarchal redemption. Setsuna could hardly believe what she was reading! And hearing! All of this had come on so suddenly that she wasn't sure what to make of it. Was it really her place to get involved? Chizu could probably handle this on her own, but leaving her with this guy seemed like a bad idea. Moreover, she wasn't even certain of what would happen next. Her roommate looked to be extremely shaken by the news and Setsuna couldn't help but feel sympathy pangs for the poor girl's plight. If she'd heard any kind of news that Love was a live... Well, she'd have probably fainted by now. Still, she had to be stronger than that now. "Chizu..." Setsuna whispered in a concerned tone. That guy was definitely enjoying this just a little too much. She didn't like him one bit and maybe she would just be in the way, but it was the job of both a friend and a legendary magical soldier to help those in need. "Ah, C-Chizu-sempai.." Setsuna said, a bit louder this time. "I hate to feel like I'm butting in here but.. I want to help. You look like you could use someone to be here for you.." She put a comforting hand on her sempai's shoulder, doing her best to keep it from shaking. Her shoulders were firm and tense and Setsuna could feel her strength and her fear in it. "So what do we do now, roomie?" She asked reassuringly. Whatever happened, Setsuna wouldn't let anything get the best of her friend. |
