Meglumar nodded to Ikki, and was about to respond to him when he turned as he heard Star's voice. Huh. He was sure she wasn't supposed to work today, but was pleasantly surprised anyways. He returned the kiss to the cheek. "Turns out Mare destroyed my books. I need to buy all new ones." He said as he shook his head, still not happy about that. Ikki then spoke up, saying he had a gift for her. However, when he reached down...he touched the book, and after a moment made a strange, creepy statement before pushing them back and vanishing. "What in the world!?" He said, taken aback. The other girl took this with surprising ease, making Meglumar wonder if this was COMMON amongst the employees. Immediately Hiro was on the case, though. When he elaborated on what he assumed happened, Meglumar INSTANTLY tensed up. Meglumar had been involved in SEVERAL botched teleportations. Who was to say going into the book or into the past of this world would go any easier? But, at the same time, knew Hiro was right in that one person all alone in a strange place was NOT good. He took a deep breath, and nodded. Ikki was a friendly person, and a friend of Star's. That was all he needed to know. "Yes Sir." He said as he helped move some of the things away from the desk. Meanwhile, Morgan was acting...well...odd. Well, odder. He didn't pay too much mind to this, he was just focusing mainly on clearing the area and not touching the book. Knowing his history, he might end up 400 years in the future... Edited by Captain, Nov 18 2010, 07:20 PM.

Star's eyes widened as Ikki disappeared. "Ikki-kun?!?" she said. "Come back! I didn't mean to--oh, it wasn't me? That's a relief." She took a deep breath and pressed a hand to her forehead, apparently relieved that Ikki hadn't disappeared because she had shown affection to Meglumar in front of him. Inside her head, however, the wheels were turning. Ikki had disappeared after touching a magic book. That couldn't be good. She glanced at Tarin. Could she drop the facade now? Certainly if they ended up in a fight, it would be immediately clear that Star wasn't just a bubbly girl. True, the bubbliness was part of her and she embraced it, but that wasn't and would never be all she was. But Tarin didn't know that. And the only reason she escaped notice was because Tarin didn't know that. Ikki's life was more important though. She took a deep breath, squeezing Meglumar's hand as she walked over to Tsukasa-sensei. "Portals again, huh, Meglumar? Let's hope this doesn't turn out like last time~" She nodded at Tsukasa-sensei. "I'm in." |

The book began to flare up again as Ikki was gone. A bright blue light could be seen emanating from the pages. As the light poured from the book, it began to pull at the amulet around Tarin's neck, almost with enough force to drag her across the room. " Another of the ancients come? But how can two share the same spiritual signature? This must be a trick!" A voice said emanating from the book with a loud boom. It was then that the amulet Ikki had given Tarin started to glow faintly, with a bright red light. " But I sense no ill will in the hearts of you. I will grant you passage, and leave the gateway open. But getting through is up to you. But I suggest you hurry, the true ancient may soon be dead." The book said before continuing. " But understand your lives will be in just as much danger as his. And you may all come back, or none of you will.... Follow him at your own risk..." It finished up, the voice fading. As it did the symbol on the page lit up brighter. If they where going after Ikki, it was now or never. |

Tarin noted how calm Star seemed to be acting in this situation, which seemed to be a little out of character for a girl who was supposedly extremely bubbly and carefree. She had always had her suspicions, though, but she never seriously considered the thought that Star was any sort of threat. Of course, she had to revise this way of thinking now. She then blinked in surprise as the amulet she had taken to wearing around her neck suddenly started to glow. She had completely forgotten that it was another one of those special artifacts related to Ikki. The amulet then suddenly tugged at her neck, literally dragging her across the room toward the book like a man would tug the leash of a disobedient dog. "What the hell?" Tarin was a very tolerant girl, and she didn't consider many things were out of the realm of possibility, but a talking book was toeing the line. However, her expression hardened when the book began telling them the dangers of their journey. There were two trains of thought running through her head. The first, her professional side, was determined to bail Ikki out of his current crisis (again) and finally figure out just what the hell this whole ancient conspiracy centered around him was about. Her (deeply deeply hidden) childish side, however, was quietly gleeful at the thought that she had the opportunity to go on the sort of adventure Dad would kill for. "I don't know about you," Tarin said, turning to the others, "but I'm not about to let a book lecture me on what's dangerous or not." She then reached out to the touch the symbol on the page. |

The book laughed at Tarin's words. She certainly wasn't lacking any type of nerve, or optimism, but this wasn't a trip to pick up a friend from the mall, where they were going, was a dangerous time, and place, and to be honest, if they where going to find Ikki, they had to move fast. With every moment that was wasted, his life may have been in more danger. " You seem to want to follow the young man.....fine then go after him, but beware the flames of Ra...and the legendary bandit king...." The book said as it opened up a small blue portal for them to walk through. As the portal opened, it began to pull at the necklace around Tarin's neck. Whatever Ikki did to it, it seemed to be wanting to be back with the young man. " You be more careful then others.....your past may connect with this time, but in here you are a visitor....do not influence future events." The book spoke to Hiro through his mind as the voice faded. The words it spoke where almost that of a warning. |

"Why do I have the sudden urge to start playing a children's card game?" asked Star with a small smile as she glanced at the racks of Duel Monster cards. It was easy to forget that she wasn't originally from this world, but sometimes differences like this stood out. In her world, Duel Monsters had been based off an anime called Yu-Gi-Oh!. She sighed and turned back towards the blue portal, her smile still on her face, even though her eyes were serious. The voice didn't exactly say anything new to her. Incredible danger, yadda yadda yadda. She had heard it all before, and yet for some reason, she couldn't help but feel slightly nervous each time she heard it. She wondered if she would ever be like Damon or Chizu, able to rush into fights without really thinking twice about it. ...Eh, probably not. "Teachers first?" asked Star, with a grin, stepping aside to let Tsukasa-sensei enter the portal. Star's history with portals had been...er...less than stellar. She glanced at Meglumar after Tsukasa-sensei had been through, taking his hand and weaving her fingers with his. She smiled at him, then glanced back at the portal. "Here goes nothing," she said, taking a deep breath and stepping through. The act she put up in front of Tarin would have to be dropped for now...regrettably. Ikki's life was at stake, after all. |

Tarin's shoes slid across the ground as she tried to stop, or at least control the rate at which the amulet was pulling her towards the portal. However, trying to fight the pull of the amulet was like swimming upstream. It was incredibly difficult and eventually, you were going to get swept away. She wondered if it really was a good idea to wear this or not. She managed to stay long enough to hear the book give its warning, like every ominous ancient artifact tended to do, before she finally lost the fight against the amulet's pull. As if being pulled by the scruff of her neck, Tarin tumbled into the portal, and all she could remember was a flash of blue and feeling of dizziness. All the while, she was wondering where exactly this portal would lead, though she had her suspicions. It would take a bit longer to find out, though. |
