The Middleman (stubborn, yet relaxed)
Ch 34

There was no lighting when she woke up, calm and collected as always despite feeling like she had been drugged for several hours and then kicked in the face by a mule. Her inability to feel pain saw to sealing away the wounds indefinitely, yet she did feel a bit dizzy.

Standing out-straight, she gathered her bearings and felt out for metal of any kind with palms widened. ".....chains.....hooks......saws....." Acting as a radar, her magnetic power swept over the large objects and relayed back the image into her mind. A odd sort of room at best, yet it was not like a meatpacking factory or that organ-donation black market that Prelude told her about during a routine lunch hour.

For one, there was no smell of dead flesh. Nor was there any blood-iron on the sharp tools lying on the tables which had metal bolts and legs to keep them steady. There was a faint rocking, and her inner sense of compass detection didn't sense that she was moved far, so it was possible she was moved into one of the tall, no-entry tents that stood at different points of the convention.

Strange that her arms and legs were not bound or her mouth not gagged, the one who knocked her out must have believed she would be unable to wake up for a few days at best had she been a normal human. Walking about carefully, moving her feet over hidden cords and light beams connected to metal pulleys and optical den-den mushi, she carefully treaded through the traps. Metal traps, to be exact, hidden in the floor to spring up and slice off legs or gut through the stomach.

Whatever, she excelled in trap dismantlement courses at Shinoa Academy. A few loose screws here, a bolt removed there, a board or two placed over, and she cleared a halfway decent path to move forward. Luckily, she carried some iron sand in her shoes, which poured upwards and floated, compacting into a deadly arrowhead shape. That arrowhead reshaped into a knife-like shape with a rectangle in the center and the sharp ends on either side.

Grabbing it normally from the air, she looked back and forth in the darkness before coming across one of the tables surrounded by trip-wire. Disabling the trap swiftly, she looked down close enough for her eyesight to get a clear view. A pile of skeletons, stripped clean of flesh/muscle/veins, greeted her face, which explained why she couldn't sense any other pulses or blood in the area.

That was when she sensed the large sheet of metal behind her, followed by a weak pulse sound. In which she ducked, the large blade zooming over her missing by a few feet as the iron table with the bones collapsed in half, carved open like it was made of plastic as it retracted. Turning around, she saw two, no three yellow eyes gleaming down on her, the 3rd eye above the two in the center of where the forehead was.

"Sssssso....thisssss issss the one that Lord Wataru sssent me to collect. You are quite the beauty, my dear Miko. But with a bit of my professssssional ssssurgery, you will bow down and worsssship the very ground my masssster ssssstands on." The female voice hissed, as if she was part snake. Oddly enough, Requiem didn't hear any footsteps when that weapon attacked her.

"......demon......" Was her reply, her eyes in slits so she could properly adjust to the darkness.

"Correct, my dearesssst. I am Mirei Orchi, a summon of the pact. Dead, then revived, I live only to ssserve my father. Sssadly, you disssgust me with that repulsssive holy aura of yoursss." There was a faint buzzing sound, as Requiem detected a saw-like blade where Mirei's voice was coming from. "Don't worry, thissss won't hurt. MUCH!"

Sidestepping quickly, she narrowly avoided a telescoping claw that tore into the pavement, still giving off the buzzing noise. All the while, Mirei was still giving off the clicking sound, trying to search for her without setting off any of the extra traps that needed disarming. Checking inside her robes, her expression failed to change at all.

"......0 suitras......alternative found......" She muttered, before biting her left pinky at the tip to draw some blood. With a quick swipe, she formed a kanji on the floor, which immediately pulsed white. "....light forth...." With that said, a living bolt of pure energy in the form of a white glove appeared and slashed out at Mirei, who wailed at the strike.

"Ow, that hurt, meanie!" Mirei said, crying a little as her true form was revealed. A six year old girl in a frilly pink dress, with auburn, cold eyes and jet-black hair curled in buns. But from under her dress were ebon anacondas, dozens upon dozens of them, smelling the air with their tongues. They acted to support her broken legs, slivering according to her whims.

".....continuing attack......" As always, Requiem was completely merciless. Even children were not above the law after all. Drawing back her bow, she bombarded her foe with arrows.

"SNAKE VOID!" A flood of vipers, cobras, and other snakes surged from her sleeves, forming a continuous wall to take the blows, as the anacondas devoured the corpses as they fell.

So far, so good. Requiem reattracted the iron fillings from the arrows, deconstructing them properly, but at the same time left a little bit inside each dead snake.

The snakes spread out now, hissing and pouncing with fangs dripping with acidic poison.

".......scattershot......" Cletching her fist to draw blood with her own nails, she drew a six-pointed hexagram around her other hand, charging the arrows with miko energy. The burst of white arrows that came next took Mirei by surprise, as the demonic serpents blew apart like overstuffed balloons next to a cactus.

"My, my....the Miko has spunk! But my power over the demon world is a lot more deadly." Rats, hundreds of them began to come out of the girls mouth, their eyes crimison red, their fangs sharp enough to cut through lead pipe. "As a demon of Gluttony in the 6th Level, I feed my obose victims rats and snakes, sometimes with rabies or poison, and listen gleefully to the screams they make."

"........" There was no response to that, as the white lighting from the seals formed multiple claws and snatched some of the mice to purify them. The strategy was a bit amateur, but effective in numbers.

"What's wrong? I'm already getting stronger by sucking the remnants and absorbing them." She chuckled, now unleashing two seperate waves of snakes and rats upon her. The arrows were good enough to eliminate the snakes, but the blood was beginning to solidify into dryness, and the rats were far too swift and agile to be taken down as a group.

No matter. She was already making progress through the swarm, and little by little, her push was killing the snakes faster than they could be replicated. And she could plainly see the sweat on Mirei's face.

"You're not....like the others. Most of them would be terrified, frightened by now." Mirei panted, after five minutes of exchanging animals and arrows. Already, the blood was fully dried, and the arrows were back to plain metal particles, awhile the anacondas feasted on the iron-filled corpses. Most of the rats were purified, the rest were butchered by the hail of arrows.

"......." Requiem only stared, forming her bow once again as to take advantage of the situation.

"What the heck is wrong with you? Why can't you talk with that accent that all Mikos have?" She sneered, wondering why this girl was so freaking lifeless.

"............Die." Was the answer, as Mirei felt the squirming and bloating beneath her, her precious snakes expanding outwards with bubble-like yellow eyes. In a split second, the anacondas all burst as one, skewering her upper body with dozens of purified 'spears' made of the iron particles absorbed in the blood stream.

As she thought. The girl was not directly attached to the snakes, the snakes were connected to her but not in a way that can transfer blood. Otherwise she would have also exploded in a puddle of blood and gore like the snakes. The spears encircled Mirei, puncturing their vital organs and clogged the lungs and heart.

"Damn.....you. I will not let this go unpunished.....my father will massacre all of you!" Mirei said hatefully with her last breath, blood coming from her mouth as she kneeled over and slammed into the ground.

".......Judgement......" Was the answer, no pity or sadness in her voice. That in mind, Requiem reconsumed the iron fillings back into the bags and left the tent, aware of the security sensors that would send Wataru's army after her.
